I built one of these. You have to see it with your own eyes. The effect is that concave objects are perceived as convex, and vice-versa. So a ball looks like it curves INWARDS from all directions, and a bowl looks like a sphere. It's very weird!
The effect requires the user to have stereo vision (which the camera does not have) and the effect happens in your head, as your brain tries to make sense of what it is seeing. Wish we could show the effect!
Ahh, that's a shame. I suppose the effect could work in a Virtual Reality format, but not everyone has a VR device and you're probably unable to record in 3D anyway.
Doesn't the camera take the two mirrors and still makes the image complete? We could just go into fullscreen and see the same effect or am I totally wrong.
The plastic on the back of the pieces is how the stock comes. When cut in the laser cutter, the plastic backing may get soot on it. The hexagonal pattern on the plastic covering is the soot marks where the piece sat on the laser cutting bed.
whenever i watch tims videos, i feel happy because hes an aged (not saying old man) british (im guessing he is english/british) man that shows off toys. and i feel like i want to cherish tim and let him live forever, so that he can do this more. his vocabulary and accent make all the videos better. just watching him take his time pealing off the stickers brought me some sence of joy. i hope that this lasts for a long time because i dont want these videos to end.
I love you tim. I've been really depressed with some family issues lately. but watching you make something, for some reason, made me cheer up a bit. so thanks dude.
Depressed? Or sad? If it's a crippling mental illness that makes every day of your life a step closer to killing yourself, your depressed, if you had a hard few days, your sad.
No, that's clinical depression. Feeling depressed is a mood that everyone can experience. Well done for invalidating his current situation. You must be proud.
+nicynodle2 well it's not really your place to ask mate, but i suppose my first comment was a bit to broad maybe, so what the hell. there are many different stages to depression, just labelling them as "sad" or "depressed" is a bit ignorant, and they don't always lead to suicide, not if you have the time to deal with it and get some decent help. through a combination of therapy and correct medication you can lead a very happy, full life with all forms of depression, and even possibly come of the meds one day. I would encourage all people with depression to seek that kind of help, it will work, but you have to let it. unfortunately a lot of people don't take that route, and would rather choose denial. that's what I did for a long time, and it lead to me disconnecting from all my friends and family, suicidal thoughts were becoming more frequent.... but I was always was able to hide it from the people around me, I never spoke about it to anyone, so i didn't know what to do. I just some family issues are have pulled me down a bit lately. but I be alright. thanks for your concern friend! =) Sorry for the very long comment. =/
We all obsess for Tim's 'huh moment'. But I think the person whom chases that moment the hardest is Tim himself. And thanks to him we all have the pleasure to share that wonderful second of feeling.
Tim, I doubt you'll see this but I have a great deal of respect for you. You are always dressed like a fine gentleman that you are. I would love if you would make a video letting us know a little bit more about Tim, when/why you got interested in your fascinating hobby and more information about your vast collection! I think I speak for everyone when I say we would all love to know you personally and be your friend because you're very entertaining and we would never get bored of you.
Watched this a few days back, immediately researched it and bought one exactly like this off Tim's store... so amazing! So hard to describe. Both a subtle and powerful illusion. Most striking to me is how the illusion slightly stays with me for a good while once I put the pseudoscope down... certainly happened after today's 30 minute session!
Hi Tim, another great video; I made my own pseudoscope with two roof prisms salvaged from dead prismatic binoculars, but of course it offers a very narrow angle of view. Another point: when you fix the tripod bush into the base plate, it's better to have it going from the inside out: the tripod bush seems to be a standard 3/8" to 1/4" Whitworth adapter, and if it is fitted from the outside in, fitting it to a tripod top would basically pull it right out again; fitted from the inside, the tripod screw would tighten it further.
I just watched an old man assemble a toy for nearly 12 minutes. Not that i mind it though. Tim is like a nice grandpa that isn't yours. I want to sit in his lap and hear him telling stories.
I'm running a monstrous fever right now and watching Tim assemble stuff is like like the youtube equivalent of the Price is Right. It's just so soothing. But I am a little disappointed we didn't get to see through it. I guess the camera wouldn't permit it?
That was quite relaxing to watch, I like the charm of these kinds of videos for sure! If Tim ever wants to simply have a camera running while he works on something such as a toy model, I'd probably watch it, heh!
Lately, things have been going really bad for me. I feel abandoned and let down. And now I have no luck getting a job so I can continue living in my apartment. The person I'm with has been threatening to kick me out and I'll be on the streets. But I found this channel today. And I see how Tim is so proud of his collections. Tim just started to cheer me up for some reason. Thank you Tim for sharing your collections with us and you just gained another subscriber. I look forward to what you'll show us next.
^ years later I hope your life got back on track, it's awful when it all collapses around you and it seems the punches just never stop coming. All the best.
@@kingcosworth2643 Hey man, I want to say thank you for your kind words. Happily, things have gotten better. I was newly living with my then gf for two weeks at the time of my original comment, and it quickly became a nightmare. We broke up 4 months later and were stuck living together for the next two and a half years. It wasn't pretty living at all. Towards the end of 2018, I met this woman at my new job. We began talking and instantly hit it off. After a few weeks, I felt like it was right to let her know about my living situation. A few months later, I was packing my things when my ex was at work, broke my lease, and my new lady and I moved in together. We just celebrated our 4 year anniversary last month, have our cats, my family loves her and our lives are going great right now. As for my ex, she tried finding me, tried suing me(didn't work), and last I found out, she had to leave our area and move back home.
@@thedarkrocker333 I'm really glad to hear things have gotten better for you my friend. Been in a miserable relationship is absolutely soul crushing, and it appears all to common. Legal problems are awful too, you kind of get the emotion that your life is paused because it's direction and future are in the hands of someone who really couldn't care less about you, and with the law it is impossible to apply logic to what the decision maybe as there is no room for logic in law. But yes, happy it's worked out, it sounds like you are happy in your relationship, and I think people need to be in a loving relationship to feel complete and with purpose. Best of luck for the future and keep moving forward, no matter what.
I was pondering this since I bought my own pseudoscope. I think the illusion could possibly be replicated in VR... perhaps even with existing VR content (in a 3D VR game etc.). I think...
I have no idea what it is about this particular episode but it sounds oddly AMSR-like, especially the parts where Tim is assembling the parts or is removing the plastic coatings from the base. It gives off this oddly calming effect to it. I suppose that if someone were to actually purchase this particular kit it would be more oddly satisfying to build it rather than use it. The little popup wand included is also oddly satisfying, the mechanism used to make it extend out has quite and enjoyable vibe to it. Also, I happen to have that same Sphere, and just by itself it is an amazing mechanical toy would recommend.
for those of you wondering how the wand works. its a plastic band coiled into the shape of the wand and then compressed into itself. kind of like a reverse paper yoyo just search "appearing wand"
Hi Tim, I was genuinely interested in what you did for a job in your working days, and basically your life story because you're so interesting. You're everybody's favorite uncle, and I wish you well.
Every time he put one of his fingers on the surface of one of the mirrors I just wanted to scream. There were even several times where it wasn't even the easiest surface to grab! GAAAAAAH!
My principal fear when I hear someone report that they "don't like" watching 3D Blu-Ray's or that doing so "does their head in", is that they have been viewing 'pseudo-stereoscopicly'; that is, with left and right eye images transposed. This provides a normally impossible view of the world (objects that are closest appearing recessed into the background etc.), that the brain continually tries to fight. Numerous brands of 3D shutter glasses provide a 50-50 chance of presenting left and right images correctly to each respective eye. Once the problem is recognised it can be rectified with the touch of button (if you know where it is). I dare say that purchasers of the Psuedoscope would be better equipped to recognise this problem.
if you could sync two identical cameras looking through the eyeholes for demonstration for those who are able to 'cross' their eyes to view stereoscopy it would be marvellous. i mean im buying one as we speak but y'know. nice demo and all
You've been playing a lot of card games through the years, haven't you? I noticed that you tap the pieces that are roughly shaped like a deck or hand of cards against the table, as if to straighten them, every time you pick them up.

given 2 videos for each eye, placed side by side... it could be plausible to "gaze" behind the screen and generate a stereoscopic effect. In theory... given a tiny screen, or those 3D glasses where you have the two pictures on each side of the phone

What did we do to deserve one such as Tim? I didn't know there was anything so pure and innocent left on the entirety of the internet.

I don't know what it is about your videos but they are incredibly therapeutic. thank you.
