LOL! I saw Harry posted this and had the same thought: "Love that there is a 23 year Crown, but why Apple flavored?" I fear for the release of a 23 yr Crown Peach.
The crown royal (CR) bags are classically burgundy and when I was young and played marbles at public/grammar school those CR bags were an excellent holding pouch for the marbles. A small town Ontario Canada memory :).
The only flavored whiskey I have had was Proper 12 Apple. I enjoyed it in small amounts at the pool. But could feel the cavities settling in because it was so sweet.
Imagine what a 110-130 proof bourbon does to your Gi tract independent of the tax of immense alcohol detoxification on your liver. High proof bourbon fanaticism can quickly be very very costly to your health. Only a few can relegate the sampling to a few drinks max per week.
I am a Crown Royal fan and think their reserve is very good. I have a bottle of the XR18Y I have not opened but I doubt I would have bought it if were apple flavored.
Perhaps my favorite video to date. Kurt nearly busting out time after time and Trent being the best possible straight man. Super job gents. I've never had the green apple but there is a 750 of their Peach waiting for the weather to warm up and ice cold drinks in order.
The organized chaos of a Trenton-led episode is the energy I needed on a Monday. Beautiful bottle but also confused on why it exists. Thanks for sharing! ❤
I cannot think of any time a flavored whiskey like this would seem like a good idea to me. Plain old Crown Royal is worth keeping on hand, and I have found uses for the purple cloth bags at times. But this: Ugly box, ugly bottle, ugly bag, and from your reaction it doesn't taste good-- at any price. And the price is crazy! But the video was kind of fun. Now, if there is time in your schedule, let us know when Early Times Bottled in Bond will be available again (it's disappeared in my area). Keep up all you do, guys!
I enjoy flavored whiskeys with a rock on a hot day. Crown green apple and the proper 12 apple are both pretty good. I want to try the knob creek maple and crown salted caramel but it will probably take me a few years to get through my 2 green apple bottles.
Funny! Now that is a classic episode. Done for the people! We appreciate the sacrifices you make for us!! Hysterical. What a catastrophe in a bottle. $230!! Insane. I despise the flavored whiskies and this is the most egregious example. What a hangover this would cause if you could manage to drink it. 😮
I would never have guessed that y'all would turn the month of May into "Masochism Month"! Y'all have my most sincere sympathy! This had me laughing over the entire show! I've made attempts at humor before but, this was great! Y'all did a great job! Cheers!

I have about half a bottle of apple in my whiskey cabinet but since we only drink local or Kentucky whiskey I haven’t been able to give it away. I’ve never found ant Canadian whiskey that I have liked.
For camping we put Crown Apple in the freezer then pass the bottle around until it's gone. Known as Freezer Juice. This is the only way I can drink that stuff, can't picture wanting any of the 23 yr old as you described it.
Good Monday morning gentlemen. My old highschool self would have probably bought this stuff...but I'm 36 now and will probably stick to my eagle rare...which I find better than Blanton's.
Since this episode has been referenced several times in other vids I’ve watched, I had to seek it out. OMG! I’m sure the whiskey was terrible on it’s own without Trenton’s enhancement process (leaving it in a hot car)…but, that surely couldn’t have helped 😂 This is another classic video from the Team!
If you have any high age, high proof Canadian whiskey you can spare you should do an experiment with blending it into this and see if the proof and non-flavored whiskey helps it!
Trenton … I can not believe you paid that much for that bottle and then leave it in the car!!! You silly boy! But loved your enthusiasm in putting the show together. And I do love the bag!! Wouldn’t mind having one of those! Although it didn’t sound like the whiskey tasted too good… maybe better in a cocktail!
Maybe they bought some leftover J.P. Wiser they couldn’t sell and said maybe we could save it with apple flavor lol. I’m not a big Canadian Whiskey fan but was intrigued by the 24yr on the Wiser label. Well I won’t do that again! It’s absolutely horrible!!! They waited 23yrs to long to bottle in my opinion. Great video guys
Talk about taking one for the team! Thank you so much for this video this morning. What a great way to start the day. The only thing missing is the store video of you acting snooty about everyone else’s selections while making your purchase.
My only thinking is the 23yr crown didnt turn out well and they decided somewhere in the process to add flavor to try and save it. Not a flavor guy but 😢😢 I did buy a box for my collection.
Shiny new bottle for the shelf... Bet it collects some dust until you take the cap off again. Maybe a shot or two of it when baking an apple pie would be It's true purpose.
I wonder if the heat that bottle went through hurt the taste. I've personally explained the deleterious effects even a fairly short exposure to heat can have on whisky.
You guys made me think of the warm applesauce in the car scene from Here Comes The Boom!! LOL Keep up the great work. By the way - I always see the Hardin’s Creek behind you but no video/s on either one. Did I miss something?!?!
I honestly want to know. Did Crown Royal age whiskey for 23 years and then add flavoring? Or did they age Crown Royal Apple for 23 years? Aging the crown apple for some amount of years would make clear up why the viscosity is so thick. But on the other hand, if you aged a product for 23 years, lost some to angel’s share, then added the same amount of flavoring as if the angel’s share didn’t happen that would also explain why the viscosity thickened. Very interesting $230 science experiment
Flavored whisky is not something I have ever sought out. I would guess that the base whisky is from lower quality batches, and then they add flavoring and sweeteners to increase the likelihood of causing headaches. At least flavored whisky is properly labeled. Tequila can have added flavorings and sweeteners that are not declared on the label - that is far worse since it is deceptive. Crown Royal probably had a substandard batch of old whisky, and they found a profitable way to get rid of it. There will always be people who are willing to pay for expensive novelties.
I notice when I hold a glass of Rare Breed in my hand until it's almost body temp it seems considerably sweeter.... perhaps this is similar... that said outside of a rare liqueur, flavored whiskey is just nasty.... sooo much sugar... for me, the only way they can be used is in a cocktail when you don't want to add simple syrup and need some sweetness but more often than not they have such a chemical flavoring taste that's not great
Canadian's are not required to be aged in new charred oak barrels, and often are aged in 2nd or 3rd use barrels (like Scotch) so the age comes across differently. If bourbon we look for that charr of the oak and these won't have that. I have a 24 year old cask strength Wiser's and if you looked for age thinking tasting barrels is age you'd not taste it there either. To taste the age you need to know how the different grains age (kinda like scotch)
I like to think they accidentally ruined a batch of whiskey at 23 years old... and they were like how can we salvage this? What will cover up the fact we accidentally spilled it on the floor and had to mop it up into the bottling machine?
You didn't pay $230 for the bottle. You paid $230 to make alot of us laugh and smile. I thank both of you so much for everything you do. Made my day.
Which in turn, makes us watch the videos and subscribe. Which they get a ROI on. So really they got paid to drink this bottle. Win win.
When Kurt mentioned that it's 80 proof.. the face Trent made was hilarious. He was clearly embarrassed to have spent $230 for 80 proof whiskey
As someone ignorant to this what correlation is there between the proof and price?
@@Gio-nl7eg not always. But Trent is a big fan of whiskeys with higher proofs and 80 is the lowest that a whiskey can get.

Thanks for trying it at your expense! Not into flavored whiskey, I do have a Crown Royal 18yr that’s a very good pour!
The 29 is excellent as well. Wasn’t a fan of the 30 though.

This has to be the turning point (low point?) for aged whiskey pricing. They must have been joking around and some genius took them seriously.
