Have you ever had a bourbon that made you say 'never again'? Share your story below. Cheers! 🥃
Yes the Penelope toasted. Ew!
For me, 2 bottles that have turned me off of brands were Penelope barrel strength and Michter’s Sour Mash
Bib and Tucker six year and Bardstown four square collab
Buckners 10 year, spent 150+ on a bottle about a year ago, and it was great but I will never buy one again
@@slbdrinks I remember when I first tried a whiskey/bourbon I don’t remember what specific one it was but it was a old granddad bottle I just remember the label was orange but after trying it I was like no ima stay away from these types of drinks then I gave whiskey/bourbon another shot some years later and now I can’t stop wanting bottles but I haven’t really steered toward any old granddad since my first pour
Are you noticing that with the popularity of bourbon, many of the distilleries that were once solid seem to have cut corners or compromising on the quality of their product in exchange for trying to meet demand? Whatever it is, we are getting ripped off.
Anything over $35 needs to be better than "consistently OK". Over $90, I expect to truly savour it, as a sipper. This is why I don't pay Scotch prices, for bourbon.
Same. I'm splurging if I get a $40/45 bottle
My understanding s that you don’t need to pay exorbitant prices to enjoy quality spirits - if, that’s your thing. I don’t and am especially concise if it’s the fear of missing out on new releases. This why I like this channel. 👊🇺🇸🧂
I can't think of anything that blows my skirt up under $50. There's plenty of GOOD whisky that I'll get for that, but I gotta get up closer to $80+ before I hit the "oh damn" territory. I used to chase the unicorns. I still have the Staggs, Russel's 13, SIngle Rickhouse, Michter's 10, etc... those are now special occasion whiskies and they're untouchable by anything I've ever had under $150. But I'm looking for value propositions now...get me really close to "holy SH!#" whisky for under $100.
I find good scotch for under $50 all the time. Bourbon prices are stupid.
I'm a Beam-Head, so I still get all the Bookers. Enjoyed all three of the 2024's I have so far. Getting the 2024-04 soon.
yeah and luckily I've been finding them at 95-110, but I also like beam a lot.
I'm with you. I love them all and past years too.
I've found Booker's first 2024 batch heavily discounted for about 50 USD at my local store here in Canada. That's about the right price for it.
Yes
I'd like to know a benchmark on your opinions. I think the bench mark should be "Would I rather drink Rare Breed than this bottle" given RB's availability and quality.
Rarebreed is my measuring stick as well.
Or, is Benchmark Bonded, FP, SiB, Top Floor better than this whiskey?

Penelope Estate Collection Founder's Reserve 11 Year Old was just released. Can't wait to try it!! Five different bottles, was able to snag the set via the raffle!
I live in price-regulated state. Penelope is on sale for $5 off this month. Paid $75 for that bottle and it is a HITTER!. They also had a fresh load of Blanton's and the MSRP has shot to $80. I didn't bat an eye.
The Penelope is money. Had a pour at a tasting event, purchased a bottle on the spot. It tasted even better after it opened up, I went back and got a backup bottle. Word on the street is that this will be an annual release. Have a great holiday guys.
Play-Doh is infused with lavender and vanilla; it was intended to soothe and calm overactive children while they played with it, but it's also the reason so many take a bite.
Originally play-doh contained kerosene
@@DBTdad Yummy!
NGL took a bite when I was a kid. Remember it being very salty lol
The challenge for me in my area is that because of the rarity, its difficult to pass on something I've wanted to try but never had a chance to buy ... I just bought one of the Michter's toasted bottles last week solely because I had the opportunity and almost certainly wouldn't see it again. Same with Midwinter Night's Dram last year ... I felt like I had to take advantage just to get to try it. I guess the good news is that neither were over msrp.
Bookers is $99.99 in VA for batches 01-04 but the Reserves was $129.99 this year. I like batch 03 this year best
Happy Thanksgiving to the SLB Family! You guys do a great job! Thanks for all the videos and livestreams!
Happy thanksgiving from our family to yours! ❤ 👊
Look what happened with the Midwinter’s night Dram from 99.00 ish and people were buying them. Now it’s 189.00 in my local grocery stores and sitting on the shelf’s
I picked this bottle up in Ohio for $99.99. Being a big Wild Turkey fan, I wanted it since it is a nod to Jimmy Russell and his friendship with Booker and Fred Noe. I will say that it used to be hard to find a Bookers, but for the past few releases they have been sitting around for a few weeks before they sell out. This is probably the last one I will buy.
10 year henry mckenna. I really tried to like the bottle. drank it 5 or 6 times...ended up giving the bottle to a friend for a case of beer. Works for me!
It’s a good bourbon if it were $35-40……once again.
It's hit or miss.
Kentucky Tea
01-2024 thru 04-2024 at the store I work at in Fort Dodge, IA has been priced at 89.99. I have the 02 and love it. Just purchased the 04 and am hoping for something similar.
As always, nice review! I picked up the Michters Toasted Bourbon along with Bombergers and Lucky Seven Frenchman last week. I thought the Michters was pretty good but I like the American whiskey better. Lucky Seven is a nice pour and the Bombergers was great! I have 14 different Booker’s batches and I like them all for different reasons with Country Ham, Pinky’s, Charlie’s, at the top of my list. I will keep buying them because my store owner friend sells them to me for 72.00-75.00 each. Cheers!
I got the Bookers for $95, the Michters for $110 and the 9 and 10 year Penelopes for $ 80 each. I've also seen all of them much higher.
That Penelope Private Select is a solid bottle
Cheers! Good on Trenton for knowing what Rubio Monocoat is! 😁 🥃🥃
You can get bookers online for 84.99-99.00 and Costco’s have them for 89.99 129.99 you paid above retail for sure.
Never seen a Booker's at my Costco. They dropped a Larceny / ECBP once. Other than that, they get a few cases of buffalo trace every month. This is outside STL.
Happy Thanksgiving- thanks for what you do / I thoroughly enjoy hanging with you guys 2 or 3 times a week - never miss a video - also love my SLB merch
Ocean, I decided to use it to clean parts in the garage
Just went to Glenn's creek distilling, what a fantastic experience and a wonderful owner David Meier. And of course he knew right away I was a fan of your Chanel 😅
Happy Thanksgiving guys. I love watching your shows, keep up the good work.
Y'all getting gouged up there. Good on ya for not fully throwing the store under the bus.
my 2023- 03 & 04 bottles definitely improved after 6 months of being opened, and 6oz out of the bottle, both are much more enjoyable now than when the bottles were first cracked.
Totally agree with you guys. I pass up Booker’s EVERY single time. Unless one comes out that is resoundingly amazing, I’ll never buy one again. It’s pure marketing, and veeery low quality. Happy Thanksgiving!
Grabbed a Jimmy's batch for $120 in central IN a few days ago. Purchased all 4 this yr & totally agree with the just "consistantly ok" remark.
Unless I hear people really talking, it's gonna be a pass for me.
Bookers around here is over $100 bucks. Early Times BiB at $17.00 a bottle is sold out at all my regular shops. Stopped on at a mom and pop shop... bought all 3 for $24. So good, beat the crap out of the Remus straight and the HH BiB 7yr. I was sippin on.
I’ve learned that when Trent says “Oooooo” and Kurt is speechless on a pour, go out there and get that bottle.
Bookers is one of the few Bourbons we get here in Australia for far less then the US MSRP for whatever reason. I paid AUD$117 for my last bottle (USD$76) which you’d probably agree is about right .
I agree on the michters toasted, if it was $45 ok. The peerless toasted new batch is very good. I would bet its the best toasted you've had. I paid $79
Booker’s 2024-03 Masters Distillers Batch is beautiful. Best Booker’s I have ever had
The costco by me (I live in a northern chicago suburb) had the last bookers for $83.99.
For me it is justifiable at that price if I see a positive review on it
Happy Thanksgiving guys!
I believe I paid about $100 for the bookers when I bought it. I personally really enjoyed it. I do enjoy most of the beam stuff though. I would say it’s not a $100 bottle, $80 may be a little high even but wouldn’t be mad at that being a fair price.
I think I'll stick with the 7 Year Black before I'd go over $100 for a Bookers. Like Kent said, it's a little hot for the proof...Great content as always.. Happy Thanksgiving!
I agree with Trenten. Michter's toasted is not worth the price. It's thin, not complex and short finish. Other than that, great distillery.
Picked up my first ever Booker’s bottle at the JB distillery last month - Master’s Distiller’s Batch for $115. Have the Baker’s 7 and enjoy it, so I thought what the heck. Will have to do a side by side this evening and so how the two “B’s” compare - and if the price difference is justified. Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving, everyone!!
Grabbed that Penelope for msrp, would love to see more companies doing that! Excellent bottle for the price
Gram snuck down and took a sip of the Penelope
Same here on the Bookers. I really like it, but even at $99 I think it is way overpriced. No way I'll pay more than that going forward.
The Tagalong Batch is the one that got me into Booker's. I've bought a few since tasting that one and I feel I'm chasing that dragon. If the price goes up, I don't think I'll keep buying so many.
When I started my bourbon journey, I figured with Early Times BiB, and Old Granddad BiB, and Evan Williams BiB there was no reason to spend more than $30.00 for a bottle. Now that I have tried some higher end bourbons (Old Forester 1910 and 1920, New Riff BiB and Single Barrel, Wild Turkey Rare Bird, Makers Mark 46, Eagle Rare ), I see no reason to spend more than $60.00 for a bottle. I would like to try some of the top tier bourbons, but I ain't gonna spend much more than $60.00 for a consumable.
Bookers Jimmy’s batch is $119.99 here in Florida @ total wine.
Total Wine in FL basically has their own secondary pricing at this point. Trying to sell Hancock's Reserve at $100 😂
Happy Thanksgiving guys! Love the channel! Thank you for your insight and advice.
Haven’t bought a Booker’s since 2022 and haven’t missed it for one second 😂
I love the Michters toasted one of my favorite toasted!!!😮 love the content fellas
Saw it at Costo a week ago for $88,99 in CA. Did not buy it due to your past reviews and picked up Wild Turkey 70th for $39,99 instead. Seems I made the right choice.
Can you review Calumet bourbon please? A lot of us can't get this stuff because it's all allocated. Calumet is easy to find.
How is the Calumet?
@johnj.baranski6553 no idea trying to get them to review it
@@johnj.baranski6553 I only have one bottle (14 year), and it's not worth price of admission to me. Lot of burn on the backend.
I didn’t like either the Mitchel’s and the Penelope. Gave my half bottles to a buddy, I’ll never buy those brands again. However Bardstown black label was phenomenal and worth the $.
Sadly they are suffering from same as scotch 10 years ago, more demand than product and quality went down, as they build more facilities. Had a Johnny Walker Red from 1985 that friend had never opened. It was so much better than any current JW product (black, blue, platinum). I don’t generally drink blends, what I discovered is that that scotches they used to blend back then were just so much better.
I haven't bought the last couple of Booker's because I still have several of the previous ones. It's listed at $100 still here in NC.
I'll pay $125 ALL... DAY.... LONG, for bookers. 2023 were sh*t, but 2024 have been absolutely fantastic. Guests have said it's one of the best pours i gave them, and thats with blinding it next to K Lukes Toasted, barrel proof jack store pick, stagg, barrel proof old forester store pick, and Barrel King batch 96...
Its a true winner in our house🤷♂️
I love me some Bookers for under a hundred. Won’t pay a penny more!!!! Pigskin batch in 2020 has been my favorite so far. ✌🏼🇺🇸
There's one store here in Upstate NY selling Jimmy's Batch. They want $124.99 and they rarely if ever mark up the allocated stuff.
I’ve been known to pay some high prices for Scotch and specific Bourbon (GB Balmorhea). But recently for me nothing beats a Single Barrel Four Roses. Cost to enjoyment ratio is off the scale. Especially smoked.
I scored a store pick of the heavy toasted Penelope barrel strength bourbon for $50. It is fantastic
I liked Jimmy's Batch so much, I got backups.
Sounds like Trenton is a woodworker... knowing what Rubio is. Maybe we should see Trenton building some fancy whiskey table...
Or Dalton told him and he remembered.
Kansas City area, the Jimmy's Batch and the 2024-03 were both $99 in the past couple weeks (Late 2024)
Hoping to find the Penelope this year. Last year's 9yr was fantastic!
Jimmy's Batch is $100 in Northern Virginia. Didn't buy any (still working on Beam House), but saw it on the shelf last night.
I'm surprised Peerless toasted didn't make the list of toasted bourbons that are good. Probably the only one I'd say that tastes fantastic. Granted the toasted rye blows it out of the water but still a solid pour.
I just spoke to my local store owner yesterday and he told me Bookers went up as well.
I saw Jimmy's Batch at Costco here in Indy yesterday for $105.99. That tracks with an MSRP of $120-$125. Even at the lower price, I passed.
Hey SLB crew, patreon member here to report I paid 73 at Costco for Bookers.
The Michters Toasted Rye last year was fantastic
I buy my bourbon from Costco. Whatever they have at the time is what I’m grabbing. Tired of secondary. Bookers at Costco in the wood box for $75.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Koval Bourbon was not for me. Maybe others enjoyed it but for me it was a mistake and I will try to educate myself before I try something like that again.
Asw toasted bourbon is amazing
When the Bookers 2024-03 came out I saw it at my local stores for $129. I asked to check the price because I thought they had it under The Reserves tag. Nope, Bookers is insane these days, if I want 7-8 year old beam, I'll stick to the Bakers at the delicious 107 proof. Cheers SLB.
Haven't had the Bakers, but the JB 7 year is a fine sipper at $28 for a handle. I ran across this deal at a SC big box store and bought 5.
Got the Penelope for $72 in NJ…I was shocked there was actually a deal for once
I found 2024-02 and 2024-03 both in the last 6 weeks. Paid $170 combined for both at Binnys
Happy Thanksgiving!
Booker 24-04 available here for as low as 89.
I *just* missed a Four Roses LE yesterday, and in my disappointment went home with Bookers Jimmy's Batch. I'm trying to convince myself it's better than it is. Once every couple years I'll take a flier on one, but they're definitely not an auto-buy like ECBP.
That said, I do think high proof Beam stuff pairs really well with desserts, which I'm about to be drowning in. Happy Thanksgiving, all!
Jimmy’s Batch is $89 on K&L, here in Northern CA
I stop buying Bookers because of the inconsistency. Our quarterly pricelist in North Carolina is still at 99. There are a lot of other choices out there for the money that I would gladly buy before I would Bookers.
If you ever go to Frankfort, Kentucky where I live, do a tasting at J Mattingly near Buffalo Trace. Then go over to Glenn's Creek and Castle & Key about 5 miles south. I would walk around at Castle & Key and buy bourbon at Glenn's Creek. Then go to a tiny bar in downtown Frankfort called Stainless and order their cherry mead. They also have some bourbons to try. The bartender tells a great story about Elon Musk there, and putting a mini distillery on a SpaceX rocket to see how it does in space.
Happy thanksgiving to you all! (1st comment! 😂)
@mauriciopast 1st comment but I’ve been watching for 5 minutes already. 😂
@ I’m not sure I was 1st anyway lol. Watching while on public transportation in frigid Chicago. Cheers!
@@mauriciopast yikes! My co worker was just there for training. it snowed on his last day there 😊 sorry, it’s warm 🥵 here in Texas
@@geronimomartinez1781 unfortunately it will only get worse. Enjoy the nice weather, happy thanksgiving!
My 2024-04 was 119.99 in my area of South Florida, and the 2024-02 was 99.99 in North Carolina.
Love the show guys! For me, Garrison Bros Single Barrel and several others from them. Price is way too high, and they just dont deliver for me. There are much better bourbons at much lower prices.
I’ve been watching with my wife here in BC Canada for a while… thanks for your time and energy. You guys rule. Just wondering , I’ve had done some infinity bottles and am loving the one I have now … do you keep track of yours? Just curious. k in the Kanada
I personally love Beam a lot, I love the bookers line but I agree it’s not 100$ bottle much less 120$ I love it at 70-80$
I've had pretty good luck so far, but I did just buy my first bottle of Balcones (Pot Still Bourbon)! I'm optimistic.
Well, I wouldn't say 'never again,' maybe it'll grow on me. I enjoy it when an offering doesn't taste almost indistiguishable from other whiskeys of the same type. This certainly doesn't taste like any bourbon I've ever had. Does it taste like bourbon even? I almost want to reward them by buying again just for putting out such a strange, different product at a reasonable price point.
Got my Booker’s 2024-04 for $95. 🥃
Booker's here has been 90 bucks for the past 3 years... if the price is going up release after release at your local store, find a different store!
Happy thanksgiving slb
Cheers & Happy Thanksgiving to you all.
I bought 1 yesterday 99.99 on bookers
Trent is too disrespectful to the allocated bourbon he keeps in his car.
My local liquor store in WNY is having a hard time getting rid of Bookers so they are pairing with another bottle. I got Bookers springfield and a bottle of Nobel Oak for $120 cash. Never had Bookers before and probably won't buy another.
Friendly reminder you can get a knob creek 9 year 120pf barrel pick for $60
Jimmys batch is $119.99 down in Indy.
You guys should do more Irish whiskey and scotch content. I love bourbon, but like to mix it up some too.
12 year scotch blind?
I just picked up a bottle of the Bookers for $70 at Costcos in CT.
