The great thing about suede driving mocs is the wide range of colours. The downside of course is that they attract dust, dirt & stains. I have a beautiful ochre-coloured pair of perforated suede mocs made in Italy - with top-grain leather insole, you betcha - that I spilled a drop of mayo on and didn't notice until it had soaked in. The shoe doesn't look so bad lately because the mayo has blended in with the other stains it's picked up in the meantime, but whenever I see a bottle of mayonnaise I get really angry and all summer I don't dare eat a single BLT.

Weird, I always thought that driver shoes should be unlined leather... They conform better to your foot shape and deal better with humidity issues (also feel better on your skin when you are wearing them without socks). Florsheims are a decent alternative (for the price as least)

I worked for TOD‘s s.p.a. , and must say there is nothing to come near a TOD’S gommino, of course they are pricey but the work put in by the artisans in marche italy is just remarkable. Did you know the men gommino has 122 dots...,just amazing. For customer which are little more heavy or do not pay attention to their shoes i would suggest the city gommino which is more durable. Nice video anyway!

I got lucky and picked up a pair of Bally leather drivers (in red) from saks for $200- marked down from $495. My splurge purchase on drivers was a pair of red Gucci leather drivers I purchased back in $2015. They are still in mint condition as I wipe them down top and bottom after every wear. I’ve probably worn them twice a season and they are still in MINT CONDITION. I believe I paid $600 for those.

All good options, but as someone who is ROUGH on their shoes, I have to say... I had a pair of the 1901's from Nordstrom, and they lasted me LESS THAN SIX MONTHS. That being said, they were inexpensive and I think they're sharp-looking shoes, so I did buy a second pair. (I'm very aware that this was primarily my fault--I genuinely tend to destroy my shoes).

Sorry this is slightly off-topic. Given that Tod's very rarely go on sale, although sometimes you can find them on flash sale sites if you act quickly, another way to get them at a more affordable price is to get them at Tod's outlet stores. The colors/styles that you can find there are usually wonky but sometimes you score a gem, sometimes you walk away with something else.

I must mention that Fryes actually had plenty of good ones up until few seasons ago. I basically always wear drivers for everything 🤷🏻‍♂️.
So tods and all the others without heel guard just show a shoddy effort on manufacturer. It’s like Gucci making 600$ rubber shoes and luring the teens/early 20s, while ruining the class and panache you get from Bally, @ much cheaper, and Prada/SF @ comparable price. 🙌🏼.

I think they're slightly more comfortable than a loafer due to the softer sole in most BUT a loafer with leather or danite sole would be more durable for more mileage/commuting. A good loafer will form to your foot in a similar way.

The toe area looks to have gotten scraped. I love these shoes, the calf leather is amazing, but I am freaked out about the toe issue. Looking at the sole (segmented), they do not cover the very tip of toe. So when I walk, the bottom half of the toe area rubs against the ground. Is this normal? Will these shoes not last? Not sure if I'm in the minority or what, but I hate the look of a driver. Just about everything about it. It reminds me of a slipper and the tread (especially the dot design) looks ridiculous. I feel like the entire silhouette just looks very juvenile
