Great video!
Grantstone should definitely be on your list from $200-$350 range. High end materials, comfort and design.
I had the same feeling about loafers. I've been wearing minimalist sneakers almost exclusively during the summer. I took a chance on a pair of cheap loafers from Johnston and Murphy and I decided that I need loafers in my life haha.
You do such a great with this type of content. Thanks for the breakdown. keep up the good work. it's much needed
Great video John!
This is the best guide I’ve found. Great work 👍
This is a killer video. Thank you so much. Thanks for Gathering all this information and breaking it down. 👍
I freaking love my 2 pairs of Ferragamo drivers. Top quality, comfort, and beauty. They still look great 8 years later.
Great advice. Thank you
Great video like always!!👏👏
"Value/Quality/Price Point". That's exactly where I land and why I love this channel. It's interesting to research the low quality and high end lux offerings so one can really appreciate what you get at those $200-$300 and $300-$500 price points!
Love those Grant Stones man!
Great video. Thanks for the info
Just as I was about to purchase a loafer lol. Thank you John!
Great video. I’m now ready to shop for loafers. I found some brands that I’ll use for life
bought some black penny loafers from Jay Butler, and I am in love with these shoes
I’m a loafer fanatic. My wife has even poked fun at me for my love of them.
I’ve got the Jay Butler Millbank in olive suede, a pair of Bobbies driving mocs in cognac, and a pair of dark brown Bruno Magli loafers I picked up on sale when I visited Venice in college (still going strong 10 years later!)
If you’re a loafer fanatic maybe you can point me in the right direction or have some tips for me. I’m starting to be a fanatic and grow my collection. I love loafers and this is prob going to sound weird for what’s to follow… I love wearing the no sock look and so comfy when you just stand there.. thats because I always get a blister when I wear no socks and walk a decent amount. Any idea why this could happen or tips? One guy said to put Vaseline on my heel but idk if that works and no show socks you can Stu=I’ll see them or not high enough for blisters on the heel. Thanks!
i needed this video
Hey John! Thanks for your review of loafers. I have several Ace Marks and Beckett Simonons. I much prefer my Ace Marks. Very comfortable, stylish, and colors you might not find elsewhere. I have a pair of Navy Blue AM penny loafers as one example. Keep up the good work!!
Mr. Jon!?! :D This is perfect timing, as I am looking into purchasing a new pair of loafers!! They are my favorite type of shoe, and I will absolutely be looking at Jay Butler and Beckett Simonon for my next pair!!! :D As always, you simply ROCK!!! :D Much smiles, happiness and rainbows go out to you and your family!!!!! :D
Thank you for the video. IMO (for my taste) the two best RTW loafers are the Alden full strap burgundy shell cordovan penny loafer and the C&J Harvard unlined dark brown shell cordovan penny loafer. There are also lots of nice polo suede loafers (though I in fact prefer my cheap RL polo suede boat shoes over any of my suede loafers!)
Good topic!
Great video
Hey, dig the polo shirt!
What is it ?
All significant brands in one place will definitely share this video.
Thanks buddy!
TLB Mallorca make amazing loafers
great effort
Allen Edmonds had a flash sale last week and I got some penny loafers for $99.97. They work best for me because they offer EEE width. The other shoes brands I've looked at don't always offer that width.
Thank you 👍
With clothing, and in this case shoes, I am rewatching your videos and trying things.
I'm apparently a slow learner but I'm catching on :-)
New to the channel! Love it! Great content! Question: having trouble deciding on a performance dress shirt. Looked thought a lot of your old content - between woodies and manual. Any nudge either way between the two? Any new wildcard i should go with? Definitely drop the affiliate link if you have it one. Thanks!
Another brand to checkout if your budget is around $200 USD, John Doe Shoes is also there
I have some penny loafers by Meermin and the horsebit loafers by Jay Butler. Both are nice shoes. My Meermins are quite a tight fit, but comfortable to walk in once they are broken in. The Jay Butlers by contrast, almost seemed too loose at first. I could slip them on without a shoehorn. Yet, I never felt that they were in danger of coming off, and they were comfortable to walk in from the start.
I went full yolo and got the Gucci 1953, it’s just the whole experience idea you have an iconic shoe😂 whatever I’m not going to be buying many different styles so these will be my main loafer.
I was looking through some of your past videos, and was wondering if you had ever reviewed Girotti shoes?
Very awesome and informative video! Can we get the brand of those trousers? They look stunning
Hard to not include JM Weston at the high end. Also, Alden in the mid range. The LHS is the most comfortable loafer I've ever found.
Very good job. Some of these brands don’t have wide sizes so if you need them like me make sure you look for that option.
Great video, I am looking to make that transition from minimal sneakers to loafers as well and I am debating between getting some budget penny loafers or tassel loafers and wanted to know which one would be more versatile as my first loafer buy? Most likely going to go with a tan or brown colorway...
Cool video man! I got a pair of Sebago i was surprised they were not included on your list- i always thought of Sebagos as a classic American brand!
MGemi Sacca is hands down best loafer. I’ve tried like 20 $250-900 suede loafers and they are in a class of their own.
I love Loafers
What do you think about the monaco loafers from wolf and shepherd? Your earlier review for their oxfords had me buy one a few years ago and I do not regret getting them
Great video. Loafers can be stiff. How do you rate the comfort of these shoes? Perhaps in another video?
tlb mallorca. Their goya last black penny is to die for. Honestly, the sharpest looking last for penny loafers, aside from Saint Crispin's classic last.
So far my acquisition this year includes cobbler union suede cap toe, 2 bourbon shell loafers from carmina, and meermin MTO penny in Cognac Barenia. Likely by the end of the year, goya black penny and picasso austerity brogue from tlb and Carmina MTO navy shell tassel.
TAFT makes amazing loafers. Super unique. I got some camo horse bit loafers from them that I am absolutely loving. I would never wear camo usually, but these just are gorgeous shoes so I made an exception.
Pls do a review on Velasca
He should definitely do that! Velasca and Scarosso
Hey Jon, what do you think about Undandy?
Could you make a video about some of the "startup" shoemakers like velasca and scarosso? Their shoes look absolute quality but so far i haven't seen anyone review them.
Scarosso is very good, but imo Acemarks, Paul Evans and Carmina beat them
Don't bother with all of that marketing focused poppycock. And stay away from P.E. Save up the $ if you must and take a leap into loake and above.
Velasca are quite appreciate here in Italy for they quality/price ratio but they are not goodyear welted
Loakes. I have a pair of Loakes Brighton that I have had resolved. I bought them brand new 15 years ago. They were a Ben Sherman collaboration so they were the Brighton loafers with special details just for Ben Sherman.
Would love to see your feedback on the penny loafer from Adelante. They're a fairly new brand, 2017?, but I have yet to see any of their shoes reviewed on RUclips.
I think you can definitely pull off a tassel loafer
Aurland loafers really deserve to be in a video like this.
Definitely need to check out Grant Stone - GS and Rancourt are probably your best price vs quality ratio.
Absolutely not lmao especially with the GYW construction. Not even blake stitched
@@applejuice9468 Sorry what?
What do you think of the Oliver Cabell Driver?
Hi, I think you did a excellent job and I like your loafer collection, I'm new to this, I don't have a pair of loafers, I'm thinking about buying myself some loafers maybe, I'm not sure what kind do I want and which brand can you recommended for me?
Gotta try grant stone
Should do review on Payless loafers
What you get from an edward green (at least my old pair of loafers): Full grain uppers, full grain liners & inserts (I think even the counter, from peeking behind the suede at the heel), insane stitch density (9/inch on the sole and 15/inch on the uppers and inners), oak bark tan soles, blind stitch soles, stacked leather combination heel, decorative brass tacks, rapid stitch is tight to the uppers so the sole has very little overhang and a flush heel.
I've asked EG in their shops and was told the heel counter is leather but the toe counter is plastic. Was a little bit disappointed in the latter.
My Bass Weejuns have lasted for 2 years, and other than some abuse I've given them (I know, I shouldn't have done yard work in them, but they're really comfortable), they're still great shoes. When they do finally fall apart, I'll probably get another pair. I might also look into Rancourt. They look great, and I like that they are made in Maine.
I had a pair of Weejuns I got on sale for $40 best shoe for the money I have ever had. lots of yard work in them. Never wore socks and they held up for 2 years.
Do you think Weejungs selling now at $175 are worth the money? They look amazing, but I wonder if the leather is good enough
Hey John, I'm looking to get my first pair of loafers, basic black penny's. They won't be my daily shoe, more like once or twice a week. I'm looking at entry-level: GH Bass, Beckett, Thursday. I like the aesthetic of the Thursday ones since they don't have that moc-esque toe of the Weejuns, and they're a little more affordable than the Beckett ones. Thoughts?
Who ese here is broke as an abandoned house window but is here looking at this nice shoes 😅😅🥲😢😭😭
I just snagged my first pair of loafers. Allen Edmonds Wooster st, made in USA with euro leather screaming deal on ebay under 100 bucks like new 😎. No scuffing on the leather sole
Check out your local thrift store every once in a while if you have a fairly standard shoe size and you aren’t picky about second-hand. I was fortunate enough to pick up some Alden cordovan loafers that had barely been worn for $10 a few years back. I’d suspect loafers would be more common to find in that kind of condition than a standard dress shoe, since it’s more niche and probably didn’t get worn around the office or anything.
Pennyloafer Chalmer from Purple Label are pretty good too @the kavalier
What is your opinion on Prada penny loafer?
Have you heard of the brand Horatio London?
I am 55 years old, and can now afford a higher quality shoe. That said...I really wish a company like Thursday Boots, had been around when I was younger. Those shoes, and boots by this company, are very affordable, and of a much higher quality, than what Thursday Boots charges. $170, for a pair of Goodyear Welted shoes, with a top grain leather...is well worth the price. Had Thursday Boots been around in my younger years...I would have stocked up on a few pairs. I still do not own a pair...however...I plan on it soon. In my opinion...one cannot get better bang for one's money than Thursday Boots.
Any opinion on quoddy loafers?
Idk about that final comment. Loafers kill my feet as flat footer. So I’m very wary of them. Which brand stuck out the most to you for foot bed comfort ?
what's your opinion on Santonis ot Tods?
Alden makes a great shoe and USA made!
Hello, what is your opinion about CAP TOE OXFORD SHOES 777 DETROIT from carmina? Thanks
What is your thoughts on Giuseppe Zanotti Penny Loafers?
Maybe anyone here, who knows something about them!? 🤔
one question though: I'm struggling myself with finding a pair of loafers that I find comfortable. how was it for you in the beginning? did you get blisters from your new loafers and how would you compare them in terms of comfort to let's say a pair of sneakers? what kind of comfort change can you expect from breaking them in over time?
Please give me some advice on meermin. Should I go down half size in loafers compared to their oxfords? Or should I order same size
my aldens are literally killing my feet due to my high in step but i still love them 😂
Beauty aint free
i have Carmina/C&J/Carlos Santos handgrade/edward green and all ik can say is by far, Carlos Santos is the best value for money after the Carlos, the best value is for me C&J. but if you want perfection and best build/leather and insole quality edward green is perfect.
Sebago? Sperry? These would be another option in the GH Bass price point or even a little higher.
Which loafer is the one from Beckott and Simonon? I want that color
hey there question for you. how is the sizing for gucci and carmina. if I am a 10 in a gucci loafer, would I be a 10 with Carmina as well so should I size up or down? thanks a lot! really helpful
you can definitely pull of a tassle loafer! Try to go for a more casual suede tassle loafer. I find my navy suede tassle loafers look great with mor casual, less structures suit seperates and I am only 21, so if I can do it, you definitely can!
I agree!
Grant Stone is my choice of loafer.
Waiting for summer loafers for city walker >_
How you like the jay butler alligator penny loafer? I have the JB alligator bit loafer and is my favorite in my shoe collection. Actually that alligator loafer from Jay butler is in the $700+ range,,😉
Weejuns are a good basic loafer. I like loafers for casual and work. I splurged on a pair of Gucci loafers. Extremely comfortable and definitely more weight. Also like Allen Edmonds and Donald Pliner. Typically look for them at discount stores.
I just bought a pair of Tod’s Gommino driver. I just turned 58, it’s time to splurge. Next is a pair of Ferragamo drivers.
What do you know about Morjas? A TikTok guy recommended them as a high end shoe.
Morjas is a Swedish brand ;)
You should include Myrqvist and Skolyx, two other great Swedish brands that offer outstanding quality for the same price point (200-250 EUR).
The styles are quite minimalist and hence extremely versatile.
Cheers!
Wasn't that nisolo sneaker leather lined?
Did they discontinue the Lincoln loafers from Thursday boots? I can’t find them
Ordered a pair of loafers from Beckett Simonon in March for my birthday. They're made to order so I knew I would have to wait. But I'm still waiting 😕 Delivery was pushed back due to COVID 19, and I should get them by next month.
Are you familiar with shoes from Septieme Largeur?
About the Beckett-Simenons: I don't like overlapped aprons. They look thick, clumsy & overworked.
What color are the beckett simonon loafers? Looks like a light tan with slight toe burnish.
What is the name of the second loafers in the beginning, thanks
Yup, Ace Marks 🙋🏻♂️
Sleek, elegant, killer leather. Great stuff
Great vid, personally I’d rather be able to buy 2-3 well made loafers than one pair of “name brand” shoes to impress strangers…had never heard of many of these brands so thanks for that…as soon as the starter loafers I purchased at the mall recently start to show their age, I will be looking into a few of those $300-500 well made brands without the conspicuous branding…summer loafers are new to me so looking for ideas on how to style, will be checking your vids for ideas…thx!
Whay can you say about Berwick loafers?
Sucks being in Australia where we don’t have access to any of these brands. And blind buying shoes online is risky.
Great video.
If you're in Sydney or Melbourne check out Double Monk, or the Blue Works.
No mention of cobbler union. I was kinda hoping you’d touch on them
Couldn’t agree more. For around $400 (and sometimes on sale) I don’t think you can do better.
@@andrewg6399 absolutely agree.
CU is pretty much my favorite shoe retailer.
