You sir are a true and wonderful craftsman. The way your hands move reminds me so much of watching my Grandfather. Everything is precise, well thought out, perfectly measured and gracefully shaped. This already looks like a true masterpiece. If I may put a bug in your ear. With the light ash body and the pearl binding I think the outer edge around the body between the bindings could use the slightest hint of darkening to really make that binding explode. It would also carry the darker tone of the neck around. Maybe a dark amber sanded back or a really watered down warm brown tone. Maybe even a hint of green. Just a hair darker then the Olive or equal to the darkest coloring of the Olive for contrast and continuity. Feel free to tell me I 'm a clueless and unrelenting idiot and to sit down shut up n smile. I am sure your eye is just fine for the details. I loved the awesome history lesson as well. Very interesting as many think the designs from the big three are only from their name sakes.

I really like the olive wood you chose for this build. It is difficult to find Olive wood big enough to have for a guitar body and neck but when you can get it it looks fantastic. The guitar is looking lovely and I like your head stock design you are using on this build.

Great stuff! I was particularly interested in the neck pocket depth section. I have the exact issue you describe with my Strat style build for GGBO, using Northwest Guitars’ copy of a hipshot bridge. Originally my neck pocket wasn’t even standard Strat depth. Now it’s about 16mm and with saddles basically maxed the guitar is perfectly playable. Probably a similar depth to yours would’ve been perfect. I’m not sure if I want to mess with it further on a finished guitar though. It was terrifying routing the pocket deeper once already.

I get what you’re saying with the strat, it’s quite a common mod to replace the standard fender bridges with hipshot ones but it does usually mean jacking the saddles way up. And I totally understand not wanting to re route a finished guitar too! Now that it’s strung up and playing though you will at least be able to measure exactly what you need in extra depth by measuring how much you’ve raised the saddles. That will give you a perfect measurement.
This is beautiful Gio. I have had a similar internal discussion re pick up choice for my next build. I want to build a thinline but didn’t want to cover a beautiful burred veneer with a scratch plate. Love the”f” hole and video length and format are fine with me.

I did get some chrome single coil Tele pickup surrounds a while back which look really nice but I haven’t built a Tele with humbuckers before and I really wanted to do it! Thanks! Yes I did a follow up video but unfortunately this guitar got water damaged the following week. I had a leak appear in my workshop when we had a big storm and the body got completely soaked, it is now a ‘decoration’ in my shop because I can’t sell it! I had been saving this top for a long time because it’s rare to get a perfect olive top. It still aggravates me!
great work...and coincidentally covers a lot of features of my next build. I'm going to revisit the telecaster using one timber as well..camphor laurel. although fret board maybe different as camphor is quite soft at janka 4440N. to stiffen the neck though I'll be using some purple heart with the camphor in a laminate. also thinking scarf joint for a point of difference. thanks for another informative and entertaining video

Is there a way to hide the f-hole? I love the thinline sound the most, but I love the simplicity of the telecaster solidbody. I'm thinking of hiding it on the back, the flat of the top or the bottom, or patching it with a screen painted with the same color of the soundboard.. what do you think? will that affect the woody tone of the thinline?
I haven’t tried to hide the sound hole, just redesign it into something I like so I’m not sure how you could do it without changing its purpose. Covering it up would effectively turn the guitar into a chambered structure and lose those sound properties that you get when playing unplugged. However if I’m building a semi hollow guitar its for weight relief purposes not for tonal properties because once I plug it in I hear very little (if any) difference between a solid body and semi hollow. I don’t think that really answers your question but you may hear things in the plugged in tone of a semi hollow that I don’t.

With respect to bridge saddle height, am I alone in preferring that my lowest playable action actually has the saddles on the high side? I find if the break angle behind the string crossover point is somewhat more acute, then the string tension feels less spongey.
Do you mean on a Tele or something else? Because the Tele is string through body so the break angle of the strings through the bridge and saddles is about 90 degrees any way you cut it, give or take 1, maybe 2 degrees max when you raise the saddles.
