  • My entry for the 2022 Great Guitar Build Off.
    Body: Mahogany and black limba
    Neck: Padauk
    Fretboard: Some kind of rosewood??
    Scale length: 25 in.
    Radius: Compound - 10in. to 15in.
Pickups: Seymour Duncan 59 in bridge and P90 in neck
Controls: 3-way pickup selector, volume, tone, kill switch
This year I tried to build something much more simple than the over-complicated Flying V of 2021:
    • Great Guitar Build Off...
"JLP Custom Guitars" is just some guy working in his basement to build guitars for himself. Revenues from all guitar sales is negative because JLP only sold one guitar to his brother (for the cost of parts), and forgot to charge him for quite a few of the parts... ANY AND ALL GUITAR BUILDING TECHNIQUES AND BUSINESS LESSONS LEARNED IN THIS VIDEO SHOULD BE COMPLETELY IGNORED.

That faux pick-guard slotting in was lovely to watch. Love the archtop body and the excellent save on the fretboard.

This is fantastic! Lovely combo of timbers and that recessed "scratch plate" is so nicely done

Beautiful work...... What are the woods that you used, they really make a great contrast.

Thank you very much! The top is black limba and the "pickguard" is padauk. The fretboard is some kind of rosewood (not sure which kind).

Great looking guitar and I think I would have left the fretboard dot on the 11th fret. Just you could see people trying to work out what cord you were playing. Also could you tell me what pick ups you use and how did you get the balance between the P90 and the humbucker? I have a home built Tele with two humbucker and was think of fitting a P90 in the neck position as the neck humbucker is a bit dark even with the colls spilt. Thanks for the vid

      Thanks, I really appreciate that!
It's a Seymour Duncan 59 in bridge and just a random P90 in the neck (really not sure what brand - I found it in a random drawer in my shop). The pickups are pretty balanced on their own. The 59 is low output and the P90 isn't much lower. I can't remember the exact values, but they're pretty close.

What is the ticknes of the top and the bottom ?

    • @jlpguitars736
      @jlpguitars736  2 года назад

The whole thing 1 3/4" (45mm) at the sides - thicker in the middle with the carved top (probably about 2" / 50ish mm). The top is 3/8" (10mm) at the sides.
