For those of you in a similar situation, find out where your city council members and mayor lives and give homeless people a ride to their neighborhoods and tell them they're welcome to camp there.

'helping' the homeless is big business. people make alot of money with this. the money isn't going to the homeless, California is a huge proponent if not stopping homelessness. the federal funding they get to 'fight the problem' is insane. yup. had “neighbors” leeching off their friends that lived in a house at the end of the block. this asshole got two vans, kept a dog in each van all day long, dogs would bark like hell… he even caged a bunch of chickens in a 2x2 cage, eventually the city made him get rid of those but never cared about the dogs in the vans. they literally told me “there’s nothing we’re gonna do about it you can call animal control but they won’t either” and I live in a pretty decent area… but they’ve totally stopped caring about the homeless problem and people keeping dogs in these hot vehicles 24/7. we constantly have these bums hang around our work building too we have to call police on sometimes multiple times a week. they won’t do anyrhing

Our politicians get a grant to deal with their homeless. They do the very minimum, like a "community outreach program" or a couple hundred more beds for a shelter the homeless won't use, then use the rest of the money elsewhere or just pocket the money for themselves. When are they actually going to create designated campsites? Showers. Laundry, security, free bus, charging stations. As long as they keep their area clean and aren't violent, they can do what they want in their tents.

I work with the homeless, more and more I’m seeing people with full time jobs who had a car break down temporarily or were injured and lost just a week to a few weeks of pay, that’s all it took to get to a crisis level. It’s scary, because where I live there is no safety net. The work I do I just took upon myself to do, I’ve called and went to get “resources” to help some of the people I’ve met through this, and there’s NOTHING, just endlessly ringing phones with no voicemail, empty offices, etc.
When someone says “there are programs/resources for them! They only have to reach out and apply!” I know they’re either just repeating lines they heard, or they live in one or those increasingly rare areas where there is help for people like this. Of course they’re going to congregate the most where help is actually available, if we did better by our own people country wide, this problem would basically disappear.
There’s that old quote about how you can tell the state of a nations leadership by how they treat their homeless/most vulnerable citizens, and it rings so true.

Then you are voting for this. When you vote for parties that a predominantly right wing and individualistic who aren’t standing up for marginalised communities, then you are voting for this. My sister is voluntarily homeless. Mental health issues and possibly drugs (although it's hard to tell if drugs are actually involved or not. Mental illness is no joke.)
We have tried to help her countless times. She doesn't want our help. She doesn't think she needs it. She is welcome to stay at our mom's house, but only does so around holidays and/or cold weather.
The first night my mom was spending the night elsewhere, my sister immediately brought a homeless friend over. My mom came home as soon as she found out (my other sister at the house informed our mother) and politely asked her friend to leave because he was a stranger in her house. My sister accused my mom of being racist and left with her friend.
My sister had a job lined up where she would get a company laptop. She did the interview and got the job. Hooray! The laptop comes in the mail to my mom's house, but my sister wasn't there for her first day of work. Her excuse? "The homeless camp doesn't have good wifi." And told my mom to send the laptop back.
She has had chance after chance. People help her time and time again. And she squanders all of it.
She was a human rights lawyer. I have no idea what her future holds.
You cannot help those who don't want to be helped. Full stop.

This is it exactly. Yes, it's frustrating, I've had it happen in my apartment garden plot and the empty lot (the neighborhood kids used to play) in the back of my building. The drugs, solicitation, piles of garbage and junk, stealing (especially batteries from cars), 2 tents burnt to the ground.....yet, imagine being so sick (mentally, physically, addicted) and/so poor (hello insane housing market that has us ALL on edge), and being forced out onto the streets THEN trying to get up and take care of yourself. I'm in Minnesota and it's bad here too...winter is NO JOKE here, we're due to be below zero in a couple days.... it's a terrible downward spiral, and if you're without family or support you may as well be doomed. The worst part is that this is not accidental.... the dark principalities and authorities in high places have designed things to create this mess....and it also serves to drive a wedge into mankind, while we go about warm, fed, and working....we complain that those who somehow fell between the cracks are luving desperate lives trying to stay alive. We vilify them and point at them, when they didn't create the problem, they are just the unfortunate ones without the support, the means, or the resilience to avoid this situation or get out from underneath it. Meanwhile, rent is over $1000 for a studio, houses are selling for 1/2 a mil, Blackrock is snapping them up and they want to normalize owning nothing and eating bugs.....we need Jesus NOW!

There is too little space to put a tent or shopping cart, but enough space to walk in. Cutting off people's livelihood by camping in front if their business doesn't help anyone. The planters can be filled with a bush, tree, flowers, or just dirt, as long as its too heavy to move by 1 person. The ones i have seen are huge, with intent.
