I spent 2 years being homeless after losing a 6 figure job! I had lost both parents, 3 friends and my fiancee in a short time period and grief and loss sent me over the edge and I slowly lost everything. It can happen to ANYONE ANY TIME!

That is what most people dont realize. Anything can happen. Great career, house, and car. Than Medical issues occur and losing a job. Its worst when you and you have to endure the situation. Its important to keep family, friends, and spouse or GF. Its called helping out each other in times of need.

The snowbirds will be coming down soon enough as well-always get an uptick in homeless traffic in FL in the winter, but when you see the uptick in the summer you know it's the people living here year round that are struggling :(

4 years ago I was riding by this homeless camp on my Harley and due to a pothole next to the old railroad tracks I wrecked my bike. The homeless came out of their dwellings and gave me unbelievable care and concern. They broke out a first aid kit and helped me gather my wits. I will NEVER forget them and the concern for my welfare. At the time I was managing a popular restaurant chain in San Francisco and after I closed I would drop off food for them to share.

Few people understand that being homeless consumes a huge amount of time. It's like camping, but changing campsites every day and never having a reservation at the next site, rarely knowing where you can rest... and feeding yourself without money... and having to locate a bathroom every time you need to go to the bathroom. When you wake up, typically the first thing we all do is to pee. When I was homeless my days started searching frantically for somewhere to legally pee. Being homeless consumes so much time that it's just not feasible to also hold down a job. Not to mention, how do you apply for work and set up interviews without a phone number, without an actual address, without an internet connection? Employment is possible when housing is resolved. Housing must come first to really be able to hold down a job.

Back in like 98 I went down to GA with $100 and lived in my car until I applied at a Cracker Barrel and saved enough to put down on a small hotel room and lived out of there for a few months until I was fortunate enough to find a great small little apt with a lovely landlord. But back then a hotel was like $140 a week?? Now he'll I wouldn't even want to know how much.. it's freaking Crazy out here the prices of everything is absolutely disgusting. I feel so much for people these days I just don't know which way this world is gonna go. Hope you are well now.

I was homeless twice, once because I was living with my mom after my divorce and she got divorced, the second time I stayed with my dad after my landlord (who I resigned from working for) was harassing me. That time, after two months at my dad's, I found out he was committing heinous crimes. I never stayed homeless for more than three months. I had no help, but I had much ambition and a strong will. After one month, I found a nice job, worked hard, got a brand new car, and got a new house. You can make it if you work harder and make moves. Sometimes, you even have to move away to a different place.

No showers, no internet access, no phone, people tryn to kill me in the middle of the night, no where to really park at night to sleep... you name it! Life was VERY hard! Not a joke. How did i end up homeless like that to begin with!? coming from a broken home where the step parent didnt want anything to do with me no matter what!? and threw me out on the street at 18 years of age. And i was a high school grade with no police record. Out on the street! Thats how it started and it stayed that way for years... terrible. Its very hard to get out of this situation

And THEY get to say, who does or doesn't get any assistance.
They drag it out over time. Like Ohio said, it took him 15 years, working with programs and such, to get to a home and off the street.

They need an 8x8 room or 6x9.
A roof over their head and a bed and a dresser.
      Shared bathrooms and showers.
It will get people off the streets fir cheaper than if they were on the streets and cheaper than shelters. Far cheaper.
All the millio s or billions isn't worker but tiny homes will. Make them out of concrete to last. A window, painted and a vent. Plus make the door have a window too.
It cost money to constantly pay for street clean ups, to clean up human waste and hauling garbage away from homeless camps right? Spread of disease.
Homeless people get sick far more often from infections and cold and compromised immunity and no toilets or showers. This costs money in medical/hospital bills and ambulance and police.
Another thing people living with high stress, depression, hunger, cold, living in the dirt and rain, getting hated on and despised by the public, victims of rape, robbery attacks, insecurity and fear causes crime to greatly rise even violence and murder. So police, investigation, arrests, court costs and not to mention the cost to human lives and broken hearts.
Then you got the cost of social workers,
Shelters and other programs which can be astronomical.
Another to think of is that many programs do little to no good at getting people out of homelessness or changing/improving lives although a few may provide a small temporary
      Comfort.
Then the biggest reason is to save lives,
Provide dignity and shelter and a place to call home and begin to heal. Providing mercy and compassion to people. Caring for people,e and having a heart. Improving lives. Safety, cleanliness, bathrooms, shelter, warmth. A place to call home

Really they are people too saying that they all addicts is a excuse for the city to despise them and treat them like animals. In lot's of cases these people can't afford to rent on a minimum wages. We are at least a bit more humane to our squatters in the first place they are not homeless. They have made a home from pallets. They have furniture there are communal toilets but they are not enough and not maintained by the city. There are communal taps. What Americans need is a riot by the poor. They can't shoot thousands of citizens. That being said supporting the Trumps of the government who hate the poor and refuse to help the poor. Using words like socialist communists when most of the people have no clue what it means fear mongering so they won't be the first ones attacked.

Make the persons there responsible for their community, give them a sense of pride. Clean it up and organize. What better way to show you are ready for change, than to make change. Sure, outsiders dumped their trash, but take pride in what is your home, even if you do not own it, and clean it up. • @PiperStLennon
      @PiperStLennon 3 года назад +21

@Atlantis you are sorely mistaken on the homeless in Canada. not all willingly choose that path. there are mental health issues and cost of living issues that mean some folks simply cannot afford to have a home whether it be in regard to mental stability or financial stability, even if they are working. i know. i was homeless at one point in the past for almost two years.
for you to say that your taxes from your income are sufficient is incredibly ablest and tbh a very uneducated point of view when it comes to how these programs work and the people that they serve.
it is truth that a good portion of Canadians are one or two paycheques away from homelessness, with the way the economy is. and inflation is only getting worse while wages and financial assistance do not rise in relation to inflation.
as for welfare, which is administered on the provincial level and not federal - it is NOT generous at all, and does not align with the cost of even basic living. for instance the full amount monthly for a single parent with one dependent doesn't even cover what typical rents are here where i live for a two bedroom place. and there are some serious issues with even getting an application going with it. i know from personal current experience. applied on the 15th and still have not heard back and when i call i constantly get 'we are experiencing busier than usual call volume, please hang up and try again later'....... for a week now. i'm in Alberta. and have been job hunting for a good couple months with no luck in my field of work.

you seem very devout in your thoughts on how help happens in canada, and you seem adamant on your opinion of folks truly not needing help if they simply 'pull themselves up by the boot-straps' so i'll bow out of trying to explain how you are sorely incorrect.

Dallas TX has a big homeless problem because ppl from other areas mainly California have moved here due to a lower cost of living which has driven housing prices up so high, working families can't afford rent. Thankfully, we have a very good subsidized housing program that gives priority if you are homeless. Sadly, a lot of the homeless here deal with drug and or mental issues.

We’ve been making meals for various communities, it’s just me and my mom that cooked the hot meals and distributed it to the homeless encampment. We’ve driven to these streets in Oakland and hand them out the hot meals, they were very grateful. We may not be rich but still able to help, and we often receive contributions (I.e meat, rice, recyclable food containers) so we can continue to make meals for these communities. We’re just happy to give back to the community, so far we have distributed 9,800 meals and the numbers of meals we distribute will continue to rise. I just wish people would think about helping in any way they can, and don’t look down on these communities, they each have their own stories and battles to fight to live. Homelessness is not all their fault, there’s underlying cause of it. Have a blessed day everyone.

Greedy developers set their prices based upon what it costs them to build. That price is increasing on a daily basis and will continue to increase until people see Inflation for what it is...The State printing $. I moved to Texas from the Midwest to help my daughter take care of my two grandchildren, because daycare costs in Texas is equivalent to a mortgage. I later on was diagnosed with lupus & RA, my daughter used me until the children could fend for themselves and threw me out into the streets! I was homeless for the first time in my life, living out of my car and it was very frightening! I don't drink or use drugs.
Yes, from what I observed in the streets, there are many people homeless because of substance abuse, but more and more, I observed that many just couldn't afford rent any longer. The cost of living in Austin Texas is absorbent! The more people migrate to an region the higher the cost of rent and real estate.

I haven't watched the video, just the first 6 seconds, and I can only say one thing : the beginning doesn't even look like California, it looks like Indian or Pakistan. I know this because I wander around Asian and America through Google Maps, and I have seen Indian towns and cities. Not saying California is on that level, but the first scenes after 0:00 disturbingly remind me of some poor South Asian city. The trash, the way some things are built... Why is the west turning into this ? They say America is bad because kids are being taught respect for LGBT individuals, but the ACTUAL problem is poverty and homelessness. America is not what we all thought of when we were 5. Even a famous game, Grand Theft Auto 4, showed the reality of American, especially for the Serbian protagonist... There were homeless people, Crime... And it's just a reproduction inside a videogame, so imagine the IRL situation of America right now... Countries are spending billions in foreign affairs or useless projects (like the "Ponte sullo Stretto di Messina" in Italy) yet the same countries are getting unable to feed their own population. You are either extremely rich, or extremely poor. The in-between is slowly disappearing. California, the Deep South... There are still good places in America, like some Suburbs of Omaha or Boise, but places like these are just a niche anyways. And I fear that in the next decades, poverty will also rise in Idaho, Nebraska... Which are currently considered among the best States. Speaking of California, it's the first most expensive state for a reason... How does California have the HQs of literally everything yet people can't afford a home ? They have the HQs of Apple, Facebook Meta, one of the two HQs of Twitter, and who knows what else. Yet the people are homeless. This is happening in my country too sadly. Politicians spending money for useless things, and people are forced to sleep at the train station, in parks, or in their own car if they are lucky enough to have a car. Teenagers are leaving because nobody can afford homes anymore in Italy. Half of the average wage in Milan goes to Home-related costs, not counting the groceries, Car insurances... This is why people are leaving Italy. They say we should have more children, how are we supposed to have children if the cost of life keeps rising. I can understand why people leave Italy for Germany or France. Also because Italy has an education system that is beyond worse... And since America is way more populated than Italy, the homelessness/poverty problem is definitely even worse there compared to here. a GDP Per Capita of 65.000 (Denver, Colorado) yet people are sleeping in Vans... I have literally seen a comment on this channel from a person from Denver that makes 65k yet lives in a fricking van... This is beyond saddening. America has never been the paradise we dreamed of while being innocent children. Honestly, I wouldn't pick America if I had to leave Italy. I mean, I like Nebraska and Idaho, they look clean, less pollution, less crime, some towns are still kinda affordable from what I've seen... But yeah, most of America shouldn't be a first choice. Especially CA, WA, OR, NY and the Deep South. I would never live in places like Bessemer or St Louis, but neither in Los Angeles or San Francisco. One city I like in California is Cupertino, because of Apple. It has a low crime rate and doesn't look bad at all. But it might just be a rare exception in a State (California) that is ruined. Alabam, Missouri, Mississippi, Kentucky, Oklahoma, aren't much better. I'm sorry America is in this bad shape right now, and so is my country. I wish prosperity to Europe, America, and everywhere else. To the people in the US who are currently struggling, I'm on your side. Stay strong, one day you might achieve all of your dreams. I'm too uncertain of my future. I don't know if I will ever have my own car, my own job, a girlfriend and a family. But I don't give up. I'm scared of my county's economic situation, but I try to think positively, as you should also do. One day, I'm sure many poor people will conduct a better life. Hopefully

You still don't understand the meaning of Freedom. The billionaire has the freedom not to do anything. I'm not trying to support the billionaire, just to explain how the democracy system works. Bcos everyone has the freedom, the rich has no obligation to help. It is their freedom. The homeless has the freedom to find ways to solve their own problems. Everyone is for their own self-interest. Nobody owes anybody anything. That's how the system works. You go to vote for a govt to represent you. The filthy rich has the freedom to fund the political campaigns for politicians of their choice. It's called lobby. Of cos' the politicians will take care of the rich. The homeless has the freedom to vote, no funding. Too bad. That's the price of freedom. I know in China they prefer food, shelter, healthcare, jobs n education over freedom. But you called it communism or Socialism. To each his own. Since the homeless has freedom, they have to figure out how to vote appropriately to bring political n economic change. Many groups are doing this. It's called interest groups. So, every interest groups have the freedom to use the system for self-interest. It is like dog eats dog free competition. That's how it operates in a nutshell. Again, I'm just explaining how US system work in simplified form.

it takes a complete lack of morals and ethics to reach billionaire status, so it is highly unlikely any billionaire will voluntarily give up a little to help many. Tax their wealth so they are no longer billionaires. NO ONE needs that much money!

@@SuperBooboo02 BS!!! Then don't live in a overpriced "major urban area" where there is extreme competition for housing! There are cities all across the country with labor shortages. Employers are running ads and literally offering hiring bonuses for various entry level jobs. Starting wages are in the $14 to $19 an hour range and you can rent a cheap apartment in a safe neighborhood for $600 - $800 a month. Most of these employers are begging their employees to work overtime (some have mandatory overtime). A person can make $60K+ on even these crappy wages. Do the math! Then rent a two bedroom for $800, share it with a coworker, work as much overtime as possible and SAVE MONEY! Don't buy a new car! Buy an old Toyota with 150,000 miles for $2000 - $5000. Don't buy take out. Cook yourself a pot of spaghetti and take sandwiches to work. Buy your clothes off the clearance rack or the thrift store. And whatever you do, DON'T DO DRUGS!!! Within two years, you'll have saved enough to make a substantial down payment on a starter home. Move into your two-bedroom starter home, and rent out the second bedroom or these basement to a co-worker. Do that and you'll have that house paid off in 15-years max! It's not rocket science. It just requires a little hard work and discipline. If a jackass like me with a GED can do this, anyone can!

What an awesome person Ohio is! He opened my eyes to the homeless. I lived in California in the 70’s and was just scraping by with a good job. I was forced to move back to the Midwest because of the high cost of living in the Bay Area. It’s been almost fifty years since I left and it’s sad to see how bad things have gotten.
