      We simply cannot go into a game thinking we are going to lose, if we have that mentality when we are sat 5-0 in our qualifying group and have beaten Spain in a real match why would we not believe we could not beat England? Danny's analysis during the last few minutes of the video was among the finest I've heard on talkSPORT. Yet the media manager predictably chose to focus on Simon's throwaway quip instead. I was amazed the other day when I heard Simon say that some Gareth Southgate critics are critical of him regardless of the good things he does. The thing that amazed me was that Simon is one of those people. Displayed by his analysis of the big teams that England have beaten. We've only beaten Spain 5-1. That never happened, it was 3-2.
    But also very selective memory there. We lose to Croatia at the world cup in 2018. So when we beat them in October 2018 in the nations league that doesn't count? Then we beat them at the euros? But that doesn't count as their an ageing team. Except the same team gets to a world cup semi the next year and a nations league semi.
    We beat Germany at the Euros, but that doesn't count because they aren't very good. They only had the 7 players starting who had won the champions league in 2020 or 2021. With another of them winning the champions league in 2022. How could they be any good?
    We beat Italy in March in Italy. That doesn't count tho as they aren't any good. Altho they were in the final of the Nations league.
    Simon just picks and chooses the facts to suit his argument. I'm sure if Italy beat us in October he'll use it as another example of Southgate failing to beat a team we aren't expected to beat.

      If England win the Euros it will be despite Southgate. All those who think he will be the reason here’s a question for you? Gareth will then become a target for a club wanting a ‘successful coach’ so which top club will go for him? I really hope that ETH does not walk or is pushed as our useless board would most likely be at the front of a queue of one. Would you want him at your club? Relegation fodder. Championship level at best.

    • @kevinlucas2564
      @kevinlucas2564 8 месяцев назад

      @@lawmantheonetrueking3739 First of all I wasn't talking about whether Southgate was a good manager or not. I was talking about Simon Jordan and his selective memory and his ability to write off teams as "ageing" or "poor" when in reality they aren't, to fit his narrative that Southgate doesn't beat teams he is not expected to. So not sure if you meant to reply to me or just in general.
      But anyway to answer your question. No idea which top club would come in for him. I doubt any. I think its more likely that a smaller nation would try and get him as manager. Or that he get some position within the FA. I think this for a couple of reasons;
      English managers aren't fashionable, probably because of the style of football they play. Look at Allardyce and Tony Pullis. Good records with smaller teams and smaller budgets, never got a top 6 job.
      Then look at Andre Villas Boas does well with Porto comes to Chelsea and is shocking, gets fired and gets picked up by Tottenham. After he gets fired from Tottenham he still gets a job in the russian league with one of the top teams in the league.
      Secondly, I think managing a club team and an international team is a totally different job. At club level you get your players for 10 months of the year. International managers get there players for 4/5 weeks a year. Slightly more in tournament years. If you have a weakness at club level you ask your director to buy you a new player to fix that weakness. You then have weeks on end to work on tactics etc.
      There are plenty of recent examples of good club managers who have failed at international level. Luis Enrique and Hansi Flick. Both have won the champions league and leagues tittles in their club roles, both have been fired.
      Then look at the Argentinian world cup winning coach. He's never had a club role as a manager and he's won the world cup?
      I mean I'm not sure about this labelling managers as only capable of managing at a certain level. You have to have the players that meet that level. When a team is promoted they don't just say this team will do, they just won us the championship. They buy new players to try and take their team to premier league level. You allude to that in your comment when you say "If England win the Euros it will be despite Southgate".

    I might be an outlier, but I love the fact Scotland are moving forward and starting to look like a team that could consistently make tournaments. Its good to see Wales growing and I hope in the future the whole of the UK and Ireland can put a team forward. Granted I'm from a town in the north west where we live amongst each other relatively happily, and when we play each other, we should still expect a vibrant atmosphere. I would love a tournament where we all had a chance to compete, if only for the banter.

    Knockout football introduces an element of luck regarding the opposition you meet - we have had unbelievable luck in the last few tournaments to avoid teams better or similar quality to us until the late stages. @@jothamjackson4695 I wouldn’t say Scotland is anymore or any less lazy than any other nation. The league is poor compared to the PL but I think there are much closer relationships built up between players and fans and which makes it a better experience on a match day. A PL match day is very much money driven and lives within corporate interests whereas in Scotland it belongs to the fans. The PL is also vastly overpriced for what it actually is, whereas the Scottish Premiership is undersold in terms of the product and quite rightly should be bringing in a better quality of investment. Also for the money that has been pumped into the English game and grassroots, it’s utterly embarrassing for them not to have won a trophy in recent living memory, especially under Southgate.

      That game was a very useful friendly for players on both sides to get used to such an atmosphere - to surf it while keeping a clear head and steady blood sugar and adrenalin levels. Just like in Spain, Barcelona and Real Madrid are the only really successful teams, and the rest are counting on a large slice of luck to win anything.

    Souness is just a bitter old jock. He was telling the world before the match that Maddison was far better than Bellingham, but after the final whistle he was saying how he was a world beater. I should imagine there is a little bit of the fact that he turned down Liverpool to join Madrid in there as well.

      I noticed this too, he was citing stats before the game and saying Maddison was a better player than Bellingham. Then after the match did a complete 180 and said it was the first time he's ever actually watched him live and that he was world class.

      He did say he’s not really seen him play(Bellingham) and so he did understand it was a false comparison between him and Maddison.
      I do 0:48 think allowing Maddison to play deeper and allow Bellingham to move around freely and further forward would work so well. Just a thought

      @@Jimbo_9Caicedo already agreed on personal terms back in May with Chelsea. Plus, Liverpool didn't even bid for Bellingham. He went from Gerrard to Zidane when asked his football idols. These modern footballers have no loyalty.

    It's easy to play & win when you have at least 2 players worth more than the opponents full squad & Stadium combined. Scotland is capable of the odd upset but we'll never be as good as we were. Never mind in the centenary game, we were beaten 5-0 so last night was improvement!

    Alan Shearer said last week Scottish football is a very poor standard . and you can't argue with him . the gulf now is huge between the two nations . and it will never be bridged now .
