  • In this video, Austin Davis, Director of Training for Concealed Coalition, answers a common question about frangible ammo. Frangible ammo is a unique type of bullet designed for specific purposes, and Austin explains its characteristics and applications.
Traditional bullets consist of a solid lead core surrounded by copper, which helps control the bullet’s energy when it hits a target. In contrast, frangible rounds are designed to dissipate their energy by breaking into segmented or powdered copper rounds bound with plastic or metal. The primary goal of frangible projectiles is to behave similarly to regular bullets until they impact a sufficiently hard target, at which point they break apart. This design reduces the risk of ricochets, making them safer for training on steel or in confined spaces, like live fire shoot house type ranges.
However, there are some considerations to keep in mind when using frangible ammo. Austin addressed factors like the weight of frangible projectiles or whether or not these rounds are suitable for self-defense situations. He also emphasizes the importance of testing your chosen self-defense cartridge with your firearm to ensure you are prepared should the day come when you need to use it.
Basically: frangible ammo has its place, but it is highly specialized and should be used for specific purposes. Feel free to share your thoughts on this topic in the comments, and be sure to subscribe for more videos like this one!

One small point for defensive use, and the concern about heavy clothing.
IMO It makes a difference on your location and the season. In summer, probably not a concern. Winter in Chi-raq vs, the gulf coast, maybe a big difference. Change out your ammo. 🇺🇸
