I went to a local Target a few months back to see if they had any of the new sets. The Lego isles were fairly filled up, but the Bionicle section was almost wiped clean. For the first time ever, I was happy I couldn't find what I was looking for.
Do you think Lego could give the main story bulk to someone like Genndy Tartakovsky? I mean, these animation shorts do look like his cartoons. Imo, they should do something like Samurai Jack, but in Bionicle setting.
I find it funny... as you said, LoSS is pretty much a 2001 Rahi with CCBS shells, a set whose construction is entirely focused on a hit-or-miss function. Yet most LoSS-haters are the same guys who idolize the Nui-Rama and other early-years, Technic based sets with non-existent posability as the absolute pinnacle of Bionicle.
He... looks awesome! He is a great piece to have posing on a shelf, because he really does look great, and as a childs toy he is good. Not so great for animation, but has enough pieces to be good for mocing... but I do like this guy, like a call back to the old Rahi.
The Lord of Skull Spiders is definitely an interesting set. Just from looking at him, I can say that he has a cool interior design, and to me, maybe it's because of the red limbs, but he looks a little decayed. I love the complexity of this set, and it managed to trip me up at one section. I also love the function of this set. It reminds me a lot of a claw machine snagging its target. My only complaint with this set is the exterior design. As I mentioned, he looks decayed, but something just feels off to me. I'm not sure what it is though. As for Bionicle 2015's first wave, I love it. I can't wait to see where this series goes and who knows, it could trump the olden days. :)

The lord of the skull spiders seems pretty good for a minifigure stopmotion series for his size and thank you nick for covering the rest of the winter wave of Bionicle and I'm excited for the summer wave set reviews by you. :)

I wish people would realize how much of a reminder of the old days LOSS is, and they should be glad that there are some callbacks to the old days, and their childhood without actually having to bring back some old pieces. (even though they brought back the Rahkshi staff piece used in Kopaka and Pohatu.)

Great video, and I'm still in awe of how well Metroid Prime music works for Bionicles XD Hopefully I'll be able to pick a couple more of these up. So far I've only gotten Gali and I was VERY impressed with them, as have all my friends who didn't even believe me when I said Bionicles were coming back.
Loved this video. Your Toa review actually convinced me to buy all 6 after I initially intended to only buy Pohatu and Onua. After watching this, I'm actually thinking about going to get LoSS as well. Also agree with you on the story. I like what we've gotten so far despite it being very minimal, but I am hoping the books will really flesh out the world and provide more details.

He was the first 2015 figure I got personally, when they pre-released them on Walmart he was the only one left. But anyways, I honestly love this set, and all of your reviews.
Two points: 1) Bionicle is confirmed to last for at least 3 years, according to Wikipedia (I think that's the source.) 2) I can see the Spiders' ability to latch onto masks as a possible prelude to a set of these toa (or villains) taking on a form reminiscent of the Hordika. Spider venom causing these heroes to become infected, increasing their powers and affecting their natures and combat styles, would be a nice callback to the old sets. I doubt that it will happen, but it seems like a cool idea.
the lord of skull spiders was my ONLY purchase (because my parents recommended something different than the heroes (Because the Toa are similar in that sense, just humanoid characters)) of this wave, and honestly, it works out REALLY well in that sense, because he doesn't feel small compared to the Toa, when you have no Toa to camper him to, ya know? (also yes I know this is 8 years old, don't mind me)
Nice review! As a lore fanatic I have to agree that they're keeping it a little too straightforward in the animations. They should have had two episodes about the battle with LOSS at least. I haven't been paying attention to how they're selling but I hope they are doing well! I don't need another cancellation scare like steven universe had last year.
I will get 2 to 3 of every character in wave 1 and 2, 1 set will be for displaying and the other 2 will be for MOC's right now I only need the 11 more protectors, 9 to 10 more Toa's and 2-3 lord skull spider. (Though I'm broke so it's time for that money bank to start gathering up and geting fild up with money)
I had the chance to get loss because I had Gali and 2 protectors so I wanted a villain to go with them and I regret not getting him because this video made me realize how cool he is
I'm 50-50 for Lord of Skull Spiders I like the Golden Skull Spider Mask, I'm not a big fan of its size compared to the Toa Masters but I understand thay couldn't make it to big, An Idea they could have was like Wite G1 Mask bags thay could have done the similar with Skull Spiders Like 3-4 a bag/pack it could have been a way to get More Spiders in interesting Colors
I think it's just most people expected LOSS to be more pose-able as a figure rather then be like a rahi, because people have come to expect alot of this toy line. I do agree though, the stuff they did work in is nice, and while the size isn't that great... weeeell Onua is smaller then Tahu and i dont seen anyne complaining about that right? To be honest, the story (or lacktherof) and the online animations are probably the biggest letdowns of Bionicle Gen 2. It just lacks the "intersting" and "mysterious" factor that the old Bionicle did. Now, to be fair, I can see why LEGO would do this, because the overly complex story was one of the contributing factors to Bionicle's downfall. But at least they could have made the new story interesting. As is... eh, I'm not a fan. Cool sets, lame story.

Technically, LoSS MIGHT have tried to sneak up on the Toa instead of fighting them head-on in the animations. He just didn't do a great job of it.
