    I congratulate your talent and skills, and thank you for excellent instructional video. It took me a few "re-winds" in order to understand what - and why - each step of your process was shown.
    I am certain that learning/developing your procedure required both time + effort to perfect, but that is the reward we can earn - if we keep trying!
    And unfortunately, this is the lesson many of those who commented will never learn. Best wishes for you.

    I watched you do this 3 times...I think I'll go and have a coronary now. Still cannot figure the entire process. It is exemplary work! I just finished a 'circus themed' clock I carved for someone and after it was painted they wanted gilding done on certain areas. The concave tapered cylinder spiral made me go pretty crazy. Fortunately it was made to look 100 years old, which was forgiving.

    Hello, Great work it's marvelous ! A few questions:
    -Does acrylic paint is ok for this work or is it a special paint ?
    -The gelatine is specific for that application or is it possible to use gelatine for cooking ?
    -How do you buy the hydrofluoric acid and mica chips ?
    Thank you very much !

    • @jaapspruitenburg6625
      @jaapspruitenburg6625 2 года назад +4

      Saw you didn't get any answers to your questions, can't answer all of them but the paint is probably something like One Shot paint, an enamel paint with lots more pigment than regular paint. Acrylic paint isn't flowing as nicely and is also water-soluble, so don't think it will do any good for the project.
      The gelatine is the same, using a capsule in 200ml distilled water is just an easy way of having the right amount. Is able to use a chip of cooking gelatine as well. As long as it is pure.
      The last two questions I can't help you with. But when you want to get more into guilding, I would advise you to look on google for A.S. Handover. They are one of the last Mohicans that survived the booming of vinyl and supply everything you'll need. Helped me a lot as well.

    • @ratstreetboy
      @ratstreetboy 2 года назад +6

      As mentioned by Jaap, go with enamel paint - one shot have great coverage. With acrylic being water based, it doesnt react well to the water being added when gilding.
      You can use regular gelation cooking sheets, too. 4 x diamonds per 1/2 pint distilled water.
      Acid is very hard to get hold of (in the UK at least!) give 'Dammar Embossing' a google, I think AS Handover have done some tutorials on that. It gives you a similar effect, but without the need of acid!
      Also, check out Happy Gilder on youtube, hes get some ace videos.

    • @ratstreetboy
      @ratstreetboy 2 года назад

      Hiya - its likely One Shot Clear Speed Dry UV Gloss Acrylic. Pop a bit of that down, then press in the abalone. once the abalone is down/dried, its worth whacking another layer of clear over it, too. Especially if you're going to back it up with a colour. This helps stop any colour paint seeping through.

    How long has that. square device you lay the gold been around a "thorn tip" I am retired after 50 years specializing in Glass Gold Leaf office and
    speciality gold work & "freehand pinstriping.. I used a standard 3"-4" guilding tip and I have naturally oily skin on forehead I would charge my tip brush with. If you have information on how long the thorn tip has been in use I'm very curious as this is first time I've seen it in this & another RUclips gold leaf video. Kindly reply here as I don't think it wise to give my gmail indirizzo/address out.

    • @ratstreetboy

      for water gilding (to get the mirrored effect) - the gelatine water *is* the size. make sure your glass is super clean, whack on the gelatine water, then apply gold leaf straight away.
