    I had the notion today that I should learn how to do glass guilding. After seeing this that notion is long gone. Respect!

    This is such an amazing process to see and watch from beginning to end. What's the clear liquid used to attach the gold leaf and how is the gold leaf removed from the unpainted areas? Mind blowing.

    HI CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW SUDDENLY THE PAPER STENCIL APPEARED BEHIND THE GOLD LEAF WITHOUT THE PAPER? THANK YOU

  • @ToolshedEd3TF
    @ToolshedEd3TF Год назад

    Once you apply the gold leaf down how do transfer the stencil back over the gold leaf to know where you’re going to paint your lines? I’m starting to practice but it’s been hard researching this particular step online?

    • @loiredesigns9971
      @loiredesigns9971  Год назад

      You could use a transfer paper (graphite paper - I like the brand called Saral) you just put a sheet of graphite paper under your sketch/template, and then draw/transfer the lines onto your gold.
      Or you could use a pounce pattern (google this)

    when you put size down , you just wash it all over the glass, but then it only sticks to the area that the letters cover ? How do you do that ? I dont see you 'paint' the size carefully so you get straight lines.....it just looks like you sort of mop it all over....so how do u do that ?

    • @loiredesigns9971
      @loiredesigns9971  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Joe, I’m not sure what you mean. I use water size - water gilding on glass. Then I paint on top of the gold leaf with black paint (to get the letters/lines). Once this paint dries, I wash the surface and the gold leaf only stays where the black paint is.

    Does anyone on know what is the black paint that's used to make it so reflective? Trying to make a Claude glass(black mirror).

    • @loiredesigns9971
      @loiredesigns9971  2 года назад +1

      hi there, in this case it's a solvent based paint called "back up paint". Any black paint on the back of the glass will give you a nice finish if you put enough layers. you may want to try a black metallic film on the back of the glass?

      There is not much room for freestyle once the design was approved by the client. It's sign making.. Here, every step have to be precisely planned and executed. It's more about showing the process, techniques that are involved in GLASS signs. Maybe look into "reverse glass gilding" so you can see other craftsmen videos and understand what it is about. Best, Robert

      with the glue formula you can make faux etching. so make it look like the real etching - like this
