Video series like this focusing on the practical matters of photography instead of comparing specific pieces of gear are majorly refreshing. I would like you see you two do a video on the 35mm focal length!
That's dedication to the craft hiking with feet in the water in the winter! Next series... How Not To Survive In The Outdoors With Becki and Chris! ❄️😉❄️ Fun video, great shots, and interesting challenge.
Great video and series, thanks for the tips! This is what primes do with you as a photographer. I fell in love with my 16mm Sigma on APCS (24mm equivalent) over the last month. You have to work the frame, especially the background and perspective. What I learned about it is that you really put this intimate feeling to your shot when being close to your subject in portraiture. Shooting close to your subject in contrast to stepping back with a usual normal or portrait lens directly translates into the look and feeling of the photo. Great for indoors and kids, too.
I was on the north shore of Lake Superior yesterday. Thought it was going to be a bust due to mild winter and very grey overcast day. No ice caves. But I still came away with a couple winner shots!
Buy a set of Neoprene Bogs boots... rated to -70 degrees C... and you can flood them with ice water and your feet will still warm up! Just do it if you're gonna winter hike!
This is going to be a great series! I keep a Sigma 18-35 on my 80D most of the time. I think this right in my wheelhouse. I need to be more proactive about going out to shoot for practice. Thanks for the inspiration!
And finally. Two years later (because I'm lazy) I am caught up with all of the videos! Great stuff and I cannot wait for more of all this great stuff from you two! Cheers!
Thanks for creating this video! I use my Sigma 16mm f1.4 (for Sony APSC) for family group photos. What I'm really looking for are the techniques, skills, schools of thought of using the 24mm (a la Winogrand). This video is good stuff. Please go deeper into this!
Hey guys i am following you since long time and i cant thank you enough! you guys doing so many things for us! The videos on this series like lens compression myth are awesome!!! thanks!
This series is one of my favorite! I really love this content as a beginner. It really validates some of the creative thoughts I have that are "against the rules"
Cool video. Nice job! I love how the trees look when snow sticks to the branches. That hike looks like it needs waterproof insulated waders to make to make it survivable, lol.
Digging the new series, it reminded me of my recent hike through Johnston Canyon recently and snow clumps and trees were falling over so it made shooting a bit dicey. I've love to see something like an 85mm shoot and thoughts about distortion...etc. Can't wait for the next one!
Inspired by your studio and your style of interior design I've decided to paint one of my main wall of my new studio- 'Midnight by Benjamin Moore'. Thank you for that studio tour video, I'm mentioning it here bcz I can notice the changes you make in every videos, love your style!😍 Keep making.
For hikes like this I try to keep a hot water bottle, an extra pair of wool socks and sometimes even am extra pair of shoes in an insulated box in the car. Makes all the difference. I can deal with most of what nature throws at me but having cold wet feet is the worst. 😁
I'm not a fan of FL's shorter than 50mm (FF) for people only, although they seem popular now. I think it looks like a cell selfie. I do like them (and I've got the 17-40 and the 24-70) for placing people in an environment and as you noted, I'm not afraid of a bit of distortion as it can play into the image. I've used them since film (usually a 24/28mm or 35mm prime in 24x36 or 65mm for 6x7, 90mm for 4x5) for landscape. The lens perspective is just a tool to capture an image. Visualize what you want and grab the right tool for the job.
Amazing video! For someone who tends to shoot 17-55mm on a crop body, this really helps! Looking forward to seeing more shots like this. Just wish I lived somewhere as snow coated as you do! Thank you for continuing to be an inspiration! ❤️
This is probably the COOLEST SERIES IDEA I’ve ever come across!! Fantastic idea, even better execution! Very well done guys I strive to reach your level of storytelling🔥
24mm GM is my next purchase (missing it right now with the tamron 28-75 being my widest since moving from Canon). Love this series and cant wait for the rest guys! Have a great week ahead!
Wow, that hike had a beautiful scenery!!! I love being the wood/forest. My favorite lens is the 50mm... but, I never tried that one. I'll have to give it a go.
I shoot mostly with vintage manual primes. I have about 30 of them. I go out street shooting with only one at a time, let the chips fall where they may.
The other day I noticed that my 18-55mm usually ends up at 24mm on a crop sensor. My go to is a 35mm lens on full frame, so that makes sense! I took it as a sign to get a 24mm prime, and I’ll be trying it on full frame too! It looks like a really versatile focal length! Thanks for making this video, really helpful!
Really enjoyed the video, looking forward to the upcoming episodes. I have one question, what are you referring to when you say "crop body" camera? Anxious for the newsletter. Thank you!
Over the decades, I have tried 21, 24, 28, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55mm in one-lens/one-body challenges. All worked well. However, I really prefer using my 24mm in a 24/50/105mm three-lens kit.
Definitely cool for portraits. How much did you have to crop though? Let's see the editing process please. A full day of all the stress and pressure of delivering the results.
I definitely dont know anything buy focal length but still loved watching the vlog I am looking forward to the next episode of the vlog. It is good to have someone who can explain thing in small details from the scratch. Thanks for making these type of videos appreciate and respect.
What focal length should I do next?
85mm
@@DavionWest 50mm ♥
35mm vs 50mm
85mm
400 mm or 600mm :D
The direction of this series is fire, can't wait for the next episode! Man the hike looked brutal lol.
Thanks so much!! Oh man the hike was rough, much more enjoyable during the summer 😂
8:15 "A little bit interesting without getting too weird" Wait??? Are you talking about the photo... or me???
Dunna Did It Hahaha you obviously 😂 JK the lens distortion
Not ‘too’ weird is good! But some weirdness is totally awesome!! 👍🤪
Do you really have to ask? Dang it Dunna! ;)
“Keep forging ahead, it’ll be worth it.” Says the guy at the back of the expedition. 😄
Says the guy that could have scouted it with his FPV drone XD
24 is my favorite too! I rarely use anything else.
I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not. 😬
As a apsc user on sony i use 16mm(24mm equivalent)at my portrait and its amazing

I hate the cold, but that snow looks beautiful enough to change my mind 😍
That's dedication to the craft hiking with feet in the water in the winter! Next series... How Not To Survive In The Outdoors With Becki and Chris! ❄️😉❄️ Fun video, great shots, and interesting challenge.
Love this series! Glad to see some pure photography based videos of lenses. And without any technical bs.
Awesome video! Really looking forward to the rest in the series! Maybe a 50mm next?
Love this channel and the series. You guy's are off the hook the Sony 24mm 1.4 brought me here.

Wintery scenes are so beautiful!!! THANKS!!!
This is awesome! Looking forward to seeing more. Would lovee to see what you do with a 100mm or 90mm!
I was on the north shore of Lake Superior yesterday. Thought it was going to be a bust due to mild winter and very grey overcast day. No ice caves. But I still came away with a couple winner shots!
Wow, that scenery is magical!
Buy a set of Neoprene Bogs boots... rated to -70 degrees C... and you can flood them with ice water and your feet will still warm up! Just do it if you're gonna winter hike!
honestly thought that photo was pretty cool :) just because I have never seen a place like that with fire behind a waterfall... pretty cool
Jake Felzien it’s a dope spot, took a few photos a few summers ago and it’s much better without the snow! Will have to go back!
@@BeckiandChris why is the fire there?
Absolutely love this series! Can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the focal lengths. I would love to see 85mm and also 300mm
It's crazy because some of the shots you got looked fire, 24mm is my FAV! The intro for focal length challenge is also fire haha!
yoooo how have i not seen this series yet?! the rest of my afternoon is going to be this and folding laundry.
thanks becki!
Really digging your content lately, so fun to watch! I'd like a 75mm vid, loved to see that. You guys are great
ABSOLUTELY love this new series. Great fresh new take on gear.
Remember when it was leafy there 😁 that place is awesome
Bomb new series, can't wait for more!!!!❤
Absolutely love the 24mm focal
Length. That’s pretty much all i shoot with lately.
I like this series! It blends practicality with the fun randomness of vlogging.
This is going to be a great series! I keep a Sigma 18-35 on my 80D most of the time. I think this right in my wheelhouse. I need to be more proactive about going out to shoot for practice. Thanks for the inspiration!
Who the heck doesn't like your videos???? Super jealous of that hike, it was gorgeous. Little cold but still beautiful.

Hope the camera survived it. Great video and not easy to pull of great portraits with that lens but when you nail it, it's sweet!
Love this serie! Thanks Becki and Chris! Love to learn more from you guys! 👏👏😊
Absolutely love this! Can’t wait for the next episode!
I love your videos. I figured 24 mm would be a little too wide for me, but now I am seeing the potential of that focal length.
What I love most about your videos is how much fun y’all seem to have making them. Great vid, great info, great work. 👏🏻
Ryan Hafey we have a blast. Thanks much!
idk about you but the fire hiding from the snow is an incredible shot as far as i'm concerned

I just got tge Viltrox AF 24 1.8 . And i LOVE the shots vid and stills are smooth in the back

Carolin Kram good idea!
Great new series, presented so well by Becki and yes chris some great flying as always!
Was hoping for more of this content. Glad it is here and cannot wait for the next one. Keep smashing it guys!
Yes please! More of this! What about a 35mm 1.4!
This is such a good idea for a series. You guys are killing it, really! AMAZING!
This is a very necessary series! I love it already so thank you!!!
You two have taken photography vlog to a whole new level lol! SO much fun watching you two 🤣🤣
Great series and the 24 GM is superb - and in Becky´s hands it makes magic happen!
I want to hike to the falls! Next visit!
This is awesome. Really looking forward to this series. I love how simple you make it for us non-techy people.
A news letter too? You guys are workaholics lol! Subbed to newsletter, excited for the motivation!
Kyle Wear awesome thanks so much!!

Your portraits are good but I love your landscape photos! They seem to say more than the portraits!
This makes me miss my wide angle lens. For my next lens to choose either the 85mm or the 16-35 f2.8???
Would love for you to try an 85mm

love the video...looking forward to seeing more of this series. would like to see what you have to say about 50mm
Came across your channel, enjoying this series, looking forward to the next episode, liking the vibe. 😎
Gosh this is my favorite Focal Length period.....Love it! I find myself shooting on this focal length the most. Great video!
I can already tell, I'm gonna enjoy this series.
I LOVE using my Canon 24 f/1.4 🙌🏼 - close ups really let that shallow depth of field shine! ✨
Would love too see an episode on the 70-200mm! Loved the video! You guys are killing it!
Great work you definitely deserve a thumbs up
I loved this idea! It is a great content for us beginners photographers, thanks!
This is probably the COOLEST SERIES IDEA I’ve ever come across!! Fantastic idea, even better execution! Very well done guys I strive to reach your level of storytelling🔥
this was great!!!!!
Thanks so much!!
Awsome content. Looking forward to the next one. Btw. Aren't you brave climbing through that snow...that's determination! All the best guys.
you guys are awesome just found your channel and its been great binge watching all of your videos during this quarantine

Judith Scott it’s a great spot especially when it’s not covered in snow! So pretty! I love the 50mm too!
Loves it! Even the old geezer, distorted as he is, is lookin' good.
I shoot mostly with vintage manual primes. I have about 30 of them. I go out street shooting with only one at a time, let the chips fall where they may.
Sure, let the guy who has just proclaimed he’s lost sensation in both his hands and feet drive home. LOL
Tammy Sypniewski baha we thawed out in the car before we drove.
Just stumbled on this.... great job on the video!
I'm here for the FPV drone... just kindling ;)
I love it. Such an awesome premise for a series.
Love the concept of this series! Can’t wait to see what you do next! 🤓
This series is a great idea, please keep doing these!!!

Love this. This is the kind of topic i am looking for! more more more
Me gustó mucho este video, creo que nunca me habían mostrado la nieve de esta forma. Y es totalmente cierto, a veces no consigues la foto que quieres.
Really enjoyed the video, looking forward to the upcoming episodes. I have one question, what are you referring to when you say "crop body" camera? Anxious for the newsletter. Thank you!
Just got my 24mm GM this week and I freaking love it
Great Video, i liked this lense too. Next focal length 85mm
Over the decades, I have tried 21, 24, 28, 35, 40, 45, 50, and 55mm in one-lens/one-body challenges. All worked well. However, I really prefer using my 24mm in a 24/50/105mm three-lens kit.
My 24mm 1.4 GM is my absolute go-to on my A7sii .. Also on my A6400 when on gimbal..
Definitely cool for portraits. How much did you have to crop though? Let's see the editing process please. A full day of all the stress and pressure of delivering the results.
this is my FAVORITE LENS and i made an entire video on it.
I definitely dont know anything buy focal length but still loved watching the vlog I am looking forward to the next episode of the vlog. It is good to have someone who can explain thing in small details from the scratch. Thanks for making these type of videos appreciate and respect.
Really enjoyed this and nice to hear I’m not so weird for loving this focal length (I shoot 16mm on Fuji A LOT)
I don't have a wide selection of lenses (almost called my channel the zero budget filmmaker), so I think I'm going to love this series.
My very first lens I ever bought the beautiful 24mm 1.4 prime😍😍😍
Enjoyed the video, and being from Florida, I especially enjoyed seeing snow in your shots.
those drone shots were mad sick
LOVED IT! Looking forward to the next one!
