If you're interested in more films with jake gyllenhaal, I highly recommend Nightcrawler (2014). He gives another great performance.

I saw this in theaters based on the hype and being interested by the trailer, came out profoundly impressed. It's a tough film to watch, not denying that. Despite that, everything is done so well you can't help but be astounded.

Glad you loved how this ended as well, it gave me full body chills when I first saw it. You might enjoy a video on YT called "why the last 30 seconds of Prisoners is perfect storytelling", it's a good articulation of why it works so well.

Jake's blinking is a character choice. This is a top 3 Denis V movie up there with Sicario and Blade Runner 2049.

Its a great rewatch. Knowing what happens lets you see how every part of the story is not only connected but *essential* to the ending. One of my favorite screenplays considering how well it ties together seemingly unrelated or peripheral details, an all time favorite.

Another great Jake Gyllenhaal performance is in “Zodiac.” He delivers another stellar performance as an incredibly fixated cartoonist turned investigator for the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper trying to identify the Zodiac killer back in the 60’s. Mark Ruffalo and Robert Downey Jr. are also absolutely top notch. If you’ve never seen it, give yourself a treat and indulge in some great acting in this film also. You won’t regret it. It was voted the 12th greatest film of the 21st century by a 2016 BBC critics poll.

I'd recommend a lot of movies with Jake Gyllenhaal. The Guilty, Life, Southpaw, Source Code - and these are just off the top of my head. The guy is amazing.

The reason it feels so confusing with Jackman and Dano at the beginning is because it's totally intentional, it's supposed to make you feel conflicted about it because for all intents and purposes, he doesn't actually know for sure that he took his kid.

I highly suggest Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. Why is he so incredible? And for a more comedic Jake Gyllenhaal film I recommend Bubble Boy.

the better Thanksgiving Thriller is "Blood Rage" i believe 1986. It spooked me because it takes place in a Florida apartment complex and I grew up in one nearly identical.

One of the best movies ever. Possibly Jackman's best performance... the scene when he's screaming in the car is epic. My only disagreement with you is that I find Jake Gyllenhall to be one of the worst actors. Zero emotion. BUT... playing the role of a detective, where you'd need to try to suppress your emotions? If ever he was going to put in a good performance, it's in this movie. And he did. Everyone's great in this movie. Loved Viola Davis too. She's like that mama bear role when she tells her husband to let Jackman keep torturing Alex... it's for their daughter... let it go. Just epic performances all around. I admit, maybe I'm a little biased... I tend to be an idiot when it comes to following complex storylines. Inception? Forget it. No clue what that movie is about or what happened. So, when I figure out a movie before the revelation it always makes me appreciate it more. I knew Alex was Barry pretty early on... and I knew the other suspect was one of the previously kidnapped kids. Much like The Sixth Sense (have you seen or reacted to that? ...if not, you should), I had it figured out early. I'm an idiot. LOL. That never happens. So, every time they reveal a clue I feel like I'm in on the secret, and it makes me love the film even more. So, yeah, I might be biased. But for me, this is one of the best films ever.
