Darjeeling Himalayan Railway - 'Z' reverse No. 3

- The 'Z' reverse or Zig Zag or Switchback is one of the way in which the train goes forward, changes line, reverses and moves forward in a 'Z' format in order to gain altitude in difficult terrain of the Himalayan foothill. In this video the New Jalpaiguri - Darheeling Passenger Train is seen taking the 'Z' reverse no.3 near Tindaria, West Bengal. There is a series of 'Z' reverse on the New Jalpaiguri - Darjeeling line are found near Tindharia, West Bengal. Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, which is other wise referred to as Darjeeling Toy Train have most number of services between Darjeeling and Ghum and couple of Tourist specials from Kurseong as well. But just one daily train runs between New Jalpaiguri to Darjeeling.
The “toy train” of DHR has gotten substantially faster with the induction of the new and powerful diesel locomotives. I still remember the old steam engines used to struggle to pull 3 coaches up these slopes.
Yes but tourists love to travel in the steam loco pull train there
😂😂
Z-Reverse #3 would make a great band-name. So obscure, yet so symbolic of dealing with challenges.
Thank you for the video showcasing zig-zag mountain route, which helps in gaining height without gaining distance....this concept was also used in the last century on broad gauge railway routes between Mumbai (Bombay) and Pune (Poona) / Igatpuri via Western Ghats (GIP Railway), before electrification arrived in 1928-31.
A very useful piece of information. Thank you so much Anirban.
A truly brilliant and futuristic - yet SIMPLE - way of gaining altitude in abnormally short distances without (unnecessarily) laying mile upon mile of circular railway track in mountainous areas!
☺☺☺👍👍👍
I saw this train pattern 1st time in my life! I never imagine train would also climb mountains like this😍💕
Awesome, been to Darjeeling soo many times but never knew this technique. This must be the train from NJP to Darjeeling, that's why I haven't seen such mechanism in all of my visits to Darjeeling. Awesome video once again, thank you☺❤💖💖
The thumbnail looks like the train derailed.
Amazing view..
I want go there 😂
New Passanger to yahi sochega ki train wapis ja rhi hai😂
That train is adorable
602. I love this engine, cause I have driven this.of course a trial run... after a overhauling.
Oh wow! Good to e meet you sir
Amazing video, loved the Nathan p2 horn
Nice footage, thanks for sharing !
This is much simpler done with the DMUs. Most preferably old Japanese KiHa. Because when you reverse without shunting, you can't see what is in front of the cars coupled ahead of you.
サムネ!レールから外れて道路に飛び出したのかと思ったw
Awesome to see DHR and Proud to belong from North Bengal..👌👌👌
Beautiful concept. Wonderfull Engineering. Great video. 👏👏👏🙏
Simple and effective. Spot on!👍

Superb ... #SaurabhAnupamSahu
They need to run with battery.
Keep a battery charging station on the way while travellers enjoying the nature.
Run partially with power and charge some distance and rest with battery.
Avoid pollution
Demonstrate our technology capability
How many batteries you think can carry that load?
@@maazkalim same question we had few years ago for cars but there exists a
Solution In market.
You may need to redesign the entire train to come with low weight and more passengers...
The route partially can be electrified and hooked to run on power as well charge batteries to use the rest of the route where there is no power line...
dumber suggestion from my side.
either electrify overhead if unesco allows otherwise manufacture the first hydrogen locomotive and show the world.
@@anupverma74 we have battery trains here in the netherlands, and in germany there are hydrogen trains
Wow so nice
have a nice journey
Все правильно. Лучше плохо ехать, чем хорошо идти!!!
After looking at thunbnail I thought it's an accident of the train...
Me too
The idea was to showcase the amount of incline
Makes me remind matheran
Super video. What camera do you use ?
Thank you. This video was taken using my mobile phone, while taking stills with DSLR on the other hand.
Very good ! 😃
Train Indian ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Luar biasa good terimakasih ❤️
cute train
ダージリン鉄道もうさすがに蒸気機関車はもう走っていなさそうですよね。NHKの番組ではたぶん特別に走行させていたんでしょうね。
It still runs steam engine but only for tourists and is small in number. Mostly for day to day passenger it uses diesel engine.
Nice looking coach. 😁😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🚚
awosome
Nice
👍👍👍
Zig zag train👍🏽
Engineers always finds a way.
Railroad Termanology for this is “Switchback”

They have air conditioning now? Wow 😮

Train he rever ho gai 😂😂
How this locomotive climbing so easily with no.. wheelslip..?
Its bristish tech...not indian thats why
To counter the wheel slip they keep dripping sand from a container to provide traction, especially in the winter months
@@GauravSharma-me8jb Yep ofcourse it's BRISTISH tech. Far superior than British tech.
@Hell Fire3 yes that's why rack and pinion gear traction system is
Used in the Nilgiri mountain railway, from the Mettupalayam to the coonnor section, at steep terrain only
@Hell Fire3 ohhhh, very well, good to know that! Are you a train watching enthusiast too, are from India or the United Kingdom?

lokomotifnya kayak lori pengangkut tebu..
mere ghar me samne se roj jata hai😅
could you share the actual location?
What's the ruling gradient on this branch, 20%?!
20 % couldn't be done without rack and pinion. According to Wikipedia the mean gradient is 4.4 %, the steepest parts are 5.6 % (1 in 18). This is still very steep for an adhesion railway, the Welsh Highland Railway for comparison has a maximum gradient of 2.5 % (1 in 40) and this is considered to be steep.
@@fritz46 You can get steeper still with Adhesion, as Bernina Railway has up to 7%. still, 5.6% is quite impressive

ありゃー、無煙化してる。しかも真ん中の客車は冷房まで・・・
It's smokeless because it's using diesel engine. This train not using steam engine.
Wow
Lucu ya😀
Bangsat memang, demi mencari viewer
It is not a "Z "crosimg it is "Y" crosing
In what way is it a Y crossing?
It's Z crossing
Narrow gauge?
Yes zdm 3
Thank you Prashant Vanmali.

Thank you S. Kumar.
Is this a railway built by British India?
Yes .

Please convert narrow gudge DHR to broad gudge train upto darjeeling for larger interests of people and nation
That's the beauty of mountain train
No. The old charm must stay. That's the beauty of this that attracts thousands of tourists.
It will be better to bring RRTS to far-flung places.
Barfi....😅
Is it operational currently?
Yes
Yes. This railway route is very much operational.
No, it was closed due to landslide and absence of no tracks only Darjeeling - Ghum toy train was operational. Your video mentioned NJP passed hence asked whether the services resumed or not!
Yes
@@narendrantcr9902 please check year and time of question asked.
