My granduncle (grandpa's younger brother) was in the British Indian Army when he was sent to Burma to fight the Japanese during the WW2. He used to tell me stories of the jungles and villages stretching from Chittagong (now B'Desh) to Mandalay, how the Sikh and Jaat soldiers managed to survive the undergrowth and the weather, the then Indian Railways, the snake and snail-eating tribes, etc... This video has taken me back to those stories and that era in fact. Thank you for this superb camera-work.... With lots of love from West Bengal, India.
I heard similar stories growing up from my grandfather who was in Britain Indian army. Japanese almost came upto the border of Calcutta and Indian army was one who had taken back Burma, Malaysia, Singapore, Java & Sumatra islands and many more in South East Asia... From Tamil Nadu, India 🇮🇳.
What havoc!!.. People, dogs, bikes, antique trains and.....the music! LOL! Well filmed. Half the world doesn't know how the other half lives. Thanks for an entertaining video and the excellent camera work.
I am from Mandalay and the weather in Pyin Oo Lwin is very nice and the visit is very good. Lots of things to see, such as waterfalls, National Reservoir, etc. The food is the craziest. Thanks for sharing 🙏.
It may be under maintained but at least they are operating it carefully and safely. I love that the railroad is still there and hasn’t been pulled up and replaced by roads and trails like any weedy railroad would be here in the United States.
Thanks, it really is an amazing place to travel on the trains and all the kit, the track, points and signals etc are from Britain. This section of track is about 100 yrs old with much of the original kit, fantastic!
Wanted: One Plasser-Theurer six tine tamper, crew of at least 20 people with garden Whipper-Snippers, small special Weed Kill train (55,000 litre tanker and sprayer), plus set of railway crossing boom gates (secondhand are OK). Lovely lush tropical place, hard to pick who are railway employees from the general public! Rollingstock coupling repairs, no spare parts? Not a worry, have a roll of fencing wire here! Great video Mark, fascinating insight!
@@MarkRobinson555 I went to Mandalay on the river ferry years ago, disgusting, hot, humid, stink of oil and fuel oil, plus cockroaches crawling out of cavities and running all over us while we tried to sleep on the bench seats! Travel broadens the mind, enjoyed Burma very much.
Using tele lens every railroad track looks like a worm. The title picture and at time 04:50, looks like ads for the green, environmental friendly railroad. Personally, driving a train into sallad, no rails visible, feels creepy...
That loco slowly poking through the trees looked like a tiger making its way in the undergrowth. It makes for a great visual treat but one wonders whether the railway is too poor to even get a periodic haircut. Obviously the frequency on this section is very low. Very interesting upload.
Thanks for the comment. The track around this area is very poor and veg management is almost non existant, but things are changing fast with upgrades etc
Excellent video 👍Your amazing patience is remarkable. It appears that Time has stopped here. The uncontrolled bushy growth is a reflection of the inefficient lazy railways. That said, the video reminded me of my father who would narrate the difficult times my grandfather who was in the Burma Railways, i think Signalling dept., had to undergo. This is in context to the World War 2 when the Japanese carpet bombarded Burma and our country men were fleeing to India across dense jungles, turbulent rivers, british soldiers and not to forget the wild life. But my father spoke very kindly of the Burmese people, their education and values (he was a 12 year old then) and i cherish the day when i may be able to visit Burma😊with my family. It may never happen in todays context. Am from Hyderabad, India. Best wishes to all!
Bo-Bo-Bo is used in Japan and New Zealand. Less wear on curves, but six axles for traction. The Eurotunnel shuttle uses that as well, derived from the NZ version.
Nice interesting video, kept me engaged throughout the length. Makes me want to visit the country and this particular place. Lots of affection from New Delhi, India.

I assume that overgrown track doesn't have that many trains. Or the vegetation is particularly productive. For constantly having to push branches out of the way the state of the paint on the front of the locomotives is remarkably good!
Excellent video,it's good to see different life style and travelling methods. Everything seems laid back and unhurried, I love it. I spent two and a half years in the Far East in the sixties, in Malaya and Borneo. It was the time of my life.
Stimmt, hier sieht alles excellent aus. Absolute Meisterleistung des Verfalls. Soll für Bahnfans total romantisch sein. Nicht für mich, nicht diese Katastrophe. That's right, everything looks excellent here. Absolute masterpiece of decay. Should be totally romantic for train fans. Not for me, not this disaster.
Actually really interesting. A lot about railroading does not change no matter where you go. The two boys at like 13:43 seem to be working their butts off. Everything gets done and the train moves on. Thanks for showing us a marvelous slice of life!
Look at the bogie design. 3 bogies of 2 axles each. This is to accommodate weak or poorly maintained tracks. Load is distributed at 6 points with atleast 2 ties on either side.
Love. From India chennai, burma is developed or. Not sorry I don't have any idea jus wanna know... Why these rail tracks or not maintained properly. Compared in India only the railway are doing best here. Very fantabulous video great going But Burma. Bazar is my favourite place in chennai.
Their locomotives must carry a lot of sand to combat wheel slippage with all that foliage on the rails. Reminds me of operations on some Penn Central branch lines around here in the early 1970s just before their abandonment - weeds, bushes, and tree branches everywhere! Neat to see the loco crawling up the track through all the overgrowth.
@@MarkRobinson555 Yep- on the route north from Namtu, and Badwin they had two guys sitting on the front of the engine manually sprinkling the sand; we got derailed and dragged over the sleepers and there was a sheer drop on one side of several tjhousand metres- the Wallah Gorge!
This just showed up in my que for some reason. Love the harmony with nature. Also surprised the engines aren't scratched up and dented. Maybe there's more maintenance than I first thought?
