I think these people are so courageaus ! As from India , Vietnam , Malaysia ... So poor but so stronger in spirit . Great people ! I am from Brazil ( big country) and here there are many people living like them . Lots of love for you all .
Yess and it's Hardship 🙏🙏🙏. That creates the strongest of people, :-) but here in America you are so spoiled and even in other Western eyes cultures, but I'm telling you the truth when I say get close to your maker I love you this world is going to THE MAKER,,,. YES I ADMIRED OF THE ASIAN CULTURE AND THE THINGS THAT THEY GO THROUGH AND ENDURE,, IT'S AMAZING ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ GOD HELP US ALL BUT THAT IS WHAT IT IS LIKE IN HIS IN HER CREATOR.,.. FOR ME ITS JESUS THE MESSIAH.... THE PERSONS IN THE MOUNTAINS OF MUSLIM AFGHANISTAN PAKISTAN AND ALL SURROUNDING AREAS THEY HAVE THE MOST HIGHEST LEVEL OF ENDURANCE.. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
I was so much touched by the family photo story. It reminds me of my childhood when having a pro photo shooting was almost ceremonial which was heart warming and nolstalgic. May Buddha bless and nourish all the kind people living tranquil lives.
Beautiful country with many untouched places to explore. I have visited Myanmar twice and still planning to revisit this beautiful magnificent country.
The country is nice but it is sad how the government treats its Muslim citizens. From Amnesty International I was one of the scores of protesters seeking the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi and now I find she is treating these people so ghastily.
Media and ppl like you should stop spreading false unfounded informations as facts already. Those so called rohingyas are living and doing fine in even cities like Yangon and Manday. Ethnic cleansing? What a joke.
Amazing documentary video which I was enjoy it since I was born and Lived 35 yrs in Myanmar and then 37 yrs settle down 37 yrs in US. Never been there but after watching this clip to have good knowledge of how the world of Myanmar people are living there...…..
I'm from Meghalaya, India and I feel so connected to these people as they look so similar to the Khasis and they eat lot of bettle nuts too. Also I notice they carry and wear those cloth bags. The lady merchant looks like a very genuine kind hearted aunt. This makes me wish I can visit Myanmar. Seems the interiors are stucked in time but Myanmar is also changing very fast. Love this documentary and the train ride and scenery is just splendid :)
Really.....? Aung San Suu Kyi having journalists arrested and turning a blind eye to the massacre in Rakhine state. Granted perhaps happier than when the Generals ruled, still, no real peace as of yet.
I took this trip to my grandfather house from a small village at Lashio to Myitgyina before. That was 34years ago. I still remember my mom show me the bridge, can't remember where , there is a dark tunnel too.
Living in Japan for 1 year, visit Myanmar 2 days for business I decided to move out of Japan. Life in developing countries is much more dynamic and attractive than developed countries.
Really worth to watch this video cause Myanmar kept out of the international arena for a long period of time. The production team given a clear message about the struggle Myanmar people are going through without having a proper infrastructure facilities unlike other south Asian countries. It's very interesting to see those people live with in their limited resources and seems to be happy. If is such a beautiful country. Well done production team. from NY.
Yes they do not know your latest high tech . But they are happy in content and never have a stress in their life. Born simply and die simply, no modern diseases.
38:40 The family-picture scene filled my heart with joy. I love how that very moment HAS A MEANING as you don't do that everyday. Sometimes I wish there were more moments with true meaning here between people, in the West as well
I will be there in exactly one month. I can’t wait to see all that beauty with my own eyes. Also, I’ve seen videos about the great food and rich culture. Myanmar, there I go! Greetings from Spain 🇪🇸 🙋🏼♀️
So refreshing to see such a simple unhurried life of these wonderful people and a beautiful countryside. My deep appreciation for the producers of this beautiful documentary. Hope to see more such documentaries. Wish you all very well.
A simple life. The manner in which the wife of the railway employee reveres the Monk is touching. On the whole very refreshing to the mind and the body.Hope no other influence spoils their way of life.Keep up your values Myanmarese.Though I am itching to visit Myanmar, my bypassed heart might not allow me.Atleast these u-tubes back-up.
Such a beautiful documentary. The Burmese people are warm and amazing people. I find it interesting how so many lives are intertwined because of a train. They deserve a much better life without such poverty. How they manage to survive is beyond me. I couldn't survive their lifestyle even if I were healthy. Meanwhile, that family at the end is adorable. They seem like good people.
The beautiful country following the greatest Buddhist religion of the world. The eternal Sidharth the Buddha had renounced worldly pleasures and comforts to preach peace, compassion and a way out from human sufferings. His teachings are totally truthful and he stressed his followers to pursue truth and asked them to be free to question his belief. Great Buddha who did not talk about false assurances. Indeed the greatest thinker and a man of most holy grace. Gautam the Buddha.
The people seem to be poor but still see how content they are for whatever life has given them. I found women to be so hardworking too. Respect to them for their resilience trying for a better tomorrow. Very informative documentary by DW as always.
Brother.... to be honest, the poor are always content with what they have/manage. I dont deny that poor/we dont have any aspirations, but those are usually legitimate and long term (like education for our children). It is the rich who are never content with what they have. They are greedy, jealous of others wealth and indulge in corruption, adultery and other crimes (which we fondly call free market capitalism). And they usually get away with it using their influence and money power.
Amazing effort in this excellent documentary, the journalists successfully documents the real Myanmar which today's mainstream media failed to report. Awesome !
Lived in Maymyo for over 16 years, the Town was the Jewel of Burma. Very British in its make-up. Lakes, Botanical Gardens, Etc:. Maymyo had it all. All Roads had English Names. Located between Mandalay and Lashio. Garath Steam engine were driven by the Best and Most Senior Personal from the Railway. Trains were run to a tight schedule and people could set their clocks by it. One Big Problem- Insurgents. There were spells when the Trains were blown up. causing Bad Memories. I Loved Living in Maymyo.
Very good naration, and how much devotion put on doing their best works done long back, and latest technology are there and still manual there are handling maintenance work. Hats of people working in so called civilization.
I traveled to Yangoon, Bagan, and Mandalay in Summer 2017. I loved the people, food, culture, and traditions, etc. Will return in 2020 hopefully. I am from Ireland, so know quite well the destruction that Colonial powers can cause in countries.
Myanmar is a Buddhist country where people loved peace!Although a lot of conflicts occurred but people still struggling for peace and harmony! Not only Lady Au Sang but whole Myanmar wishes no war no bloody!Western valued on Eastern culture and traditional!
A really most enjoyable and informative documentary on life in perhaps the those regions that time has practically passed by. But as you notice they are most content with what their lot is and they go cheerfully about their task and always ready to help a fellow traveler or vendor. You can't miss what an important role the simple railway train plays in the life of so many. Everything so sensitively and lovingly depicted. Thank you and be blessed the true people of Myanmar.
Wonderful documentary, very interesting. Documentaries like this should be encouraged because, it’s the easiest way of learning other cultures and bringing the world together. One love for Myanmar people

Interesting ! I like this part of the world ; I live in Thailand for 10 years, and plan to go to Myanmar one day , to visit they seem very nice people ( as are Thai people )
If you look from google maps , compare the ggogle earth maps of Thailand and Neighbouring Burma , Myanmar. Am I right to say that Myanmar has a lot more green jungles left compared to Thailand, it seems like Thailand in its effort to develop and provide a living for its people , every available piece of land has been converted to agriculture. In Myanmar there are still unexplored virgin forest , more of it in the high ranges and steep mountains of the foothills of the eastern and central ranges. A clear , depiction of development vs a slower pace of life
