Thank you! I've been struggling with this for years, always making a 50 cm wide circle. It felt more like a tight spiral than actually spinning. My coaches just said: "It looks fine, just continue trying and it will come." Well, it didn't. Having the torso leaning outside the skate made all the difference! In my first try, I made five rotations!
At 23 I'm getting back into ice skating because I've always wanted to be able to do this spin. My hip flexibility is almost nonexistent but hopefully I'll be able to get this someday.
I coach in a small town in Saskatchewan, Canada. We tried your excises and positions tonight and love them! Progress on day 1. Huge thank you from Skate Indian Head!!
I’m working on camel spins on quad skates and this has actually helped me so much! Still working on proper posture currently but I’ve already done way better than before this video
@@CoachJulia Yes it did help! The spiral exercise helped at once and I don’t fall too much forward like I did before. Now I’m working on changing arms in my entry the way you showed and I already feel my camel is getting more centered and stabile. I really appreciate your help, thank you so much!!
Some great tips here I had never heard before. I struggle with consistency - I can sometimes get 10 revs but sometimes no revs! So, I'm hoping that your tip particularly about pointing the L toe to the R hip will help me get a more consistent entry. Thanks!
Thank you very much for your videos! You have a talent to explain difficult things very easy. We have a camel spin in our program and it's very difficult to fix in one place)))
Been trying this for a couple of months now but never managed to get more than 3revs. I'm missing that slight offset between the upper torso and entrance foot. Even when I tried on the wall, never knew I had to do that! Thank you so much Coach Julia!🤩
I have found the information about pointing the standing foot towards the opposite shoulder 4:35 helpful, when practicing off-ice for spirals and the Biellmann, as a beginner. ⛸️🙏
Every time I do a camel I spin very very slow and I feel like I am getting slower each time, but when I do my sit spin or any other spin I go fast I feel like I am too heavy for this type of spin 😭 any advice
@@CoachJulia OMG U NOTICEDD!! I HELPED ME ALOT WHEN ICE SKATING!! I USED TO FIGURE SKATE WHEN I WAS YOUNG BUT THEN I FORGOT BECAUSE IT WAS ALONG TIME AGO! u helped me alot💗
Dear Julia! Thanks a lot for explanations of the Camel spin and others! They are so useful! Pity but I cannot open the Instagram and sent My videos for your tips...
You may have mentioned this in the video, but any tips for what part of the skate you should be on compared to other spins, and any tips for why mine has a huge circle (like 2-3 feet) on the ice? I'm thinking that I must be on the wrong part of the blade, maybe like too deep of an inside edge or too far back on the blade.
Just off hand it sounds like you are on too deep of an inside edge. You can help correct this by getting your upper body facing harder towards your little toe.
Thank you for the video, Coach Julia. First things first, I hope you are enjoying married life :) Now, sorry to be a PITA with so many spin questions every week...(specifically the scratch spin, which my other coach refers to as the one foot spin) Would the "twisted entry" you explained in this camel spin video work for the scratch spin? I keep falling too deep into the inside edge when doing the scratch, that I thought maybe this might help. Another thing is about off-ice spinners. I've been making pretty good progress on an edea spinner (although you don't recommend it for safety issues), like, I can do about 4-5 scratch spin rotations on it. But none of the progress seems to translate to progress on the ice, basically 0 rotations on the ice. What would be the biggest difference between a spinner and ice, and more importantly, how do you make up for that difference? Maybe it's about the spinner not perfectly mimicking the rocker? (rocker is under the balls, while the spinner spins under the foot arch) Should I try to stand on my balls on a spinner? But then again, the spinner is flat while the skates have heels raised. So maybe that negates the difference in the rocker location? Maybe it's because my feet are much lighter since I'm not wearing skates while on a spinner? Try wearing weight bags on the ankle? These are what I came up with, but really want to get your advice because for flutz sake I want to get over the scratch spin once and for all...
fast forward 9 months...today I got started with the camel spin. No, it's not like I got the any of other spins nailed down...it's just our little project to find a spin that I might magically be able to do. And YES, the camel spin seems to be the one!!! After a few attempts (trying to remember this video that I watched a while ago) I got a few rotations!!! Coach immediately suggests that we change the finish to my program, which was supposed to be a forward scratch, to the camel spin. So, this is gonna take up a lot of my practice time for a while...
when i feel too down to skate, i watch your videos and they inspire me all over again 💗
Oh my gosh that is such a nice thing to say. Thank you!!

I love how detailed these videos are, I won’t be trying a camel spin any time soon, but I still like watching these videos just for fun
At least it gives you something to work towards!

Amazing video! Can't wait to try these tips. (My knee is already grumbling about that spiral exercise though 😂) xx
Oh no! It's a tough one. Good luck.

Beautiful camel spin and perfect tutorial! can you do one on back camel, please? Thanks!
I’ll put that in my list!
Can you do a back camel spin? I am working on one now and want to see if I am doing right. Thank you.
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial! ❤️
You are welcome!
Thank you so much ❤ same entrance as sit spin?
Yes! Same wind up as the sit spin.
Do people do camel spins standing on their right leg as well? What would be your entry for that? Loved the video ❤
They do! It is called a ‘Back Camel’. I will add your request to my filming list!
ty for another amazing and well said tutorial! :)

Are you spinning on the outside edge or the inside edge?
For this spin it is a slight backward inside edge.
I can only spin clockwise
❤
I can't do a scratch spin but somehow I have my camel spin lol
