    I’m 77 and your show idea sounds like something that is desperately needed. Even wrinkle cream have 20 year olds doing the ads…and if they DO use someone older, they want a medal. Then they airbrush out every wrinkle. Depressing!
    On RUclips, Christopher Hopkins (The Makeover Guy) specializes is over 45 makeovers..has a book called Staging Your Comeback, which is a guide to self improvement. He specializes in haircuts-but makeup is HUGE to getting to a place of feeling fabulous.
    Other makeup books use young women to show techniques… and want you to look like you have nothing on..just fade into the background.
    I think you two have the talent, humor and good taste and technique to really make an impact on an older demographic being seen!
    Wonderful podcast.. I never miss it. Thank you for just having the IDEA of the show. Makes me love you both even more.

    • @christinehottinger5791
      @christinehottinger5791 17 дней назад +7

      Honestly, I don't think it's the place of Johnny or Kevin (or me, or any other white person) to weigh in on what the black community needs or wants. But I will say that lots and lots of consumers, especially consumers like Johnny and Kevin, value high-end choices. Saying a community doesn't need a product range because there's a low cost range isn't the slam dunk argument. It may be a take biased by classism.

My hair is growing more..it is so freaking soft and shiny. I know it's not just me cause these products are highly stocked at my Targey and CONSTANTLY sell out. They are about $12 a bottle. The brand is Mielle. It is black owned. The Rosmary Mint Strengthening line. The shampoo conditioner and scalp oil. Flys off the shelves. I can't rave about it enough.

    Starting in my 40's I desperately wanted to connect beauty experts with cancer patients for consults on skincare, makeup, and haircare. It's a demographic that is growing immensely and is very underserved.
    Imagine my surprise I became that cancer patient in my 50"s. While I'm doing ok mentally, emotionally, and physically so many of my fellow patients are most certainly not. You are not only fighting for your life, you are losing all normality in your regular routine. I was totally OK with losing my hair but really was surprised when my eyebrows and eyelashes went away as well.
    So many women need a boost mentally and emotionally by reclaiming their beauty while going through treatment. Older women are virtually invisible to society, those who are ill are more so. We are here and we are survivors.

    I'll turn 50 years old this week (🎉Yay!), and I definitely related to what you both were saying about women of a certain age starting over for various reasons. My goodness! I seem to laugh and cry (the good kind) each week, but I'm also encouraged this week! Just knowing that others would believe SO strongly and support someone like me/us as we rebuild our lives...it means the world! What a wonderful idea for a show! Thanks for such a beautiful gift of encouragement as I start my next chapter! Love you both! 💜

    Great episode. LVMH, owns Sephora. LVMH also owns (or partially owns) so many of the brands in Sephora(Dior, Givenchy, Guerlain, 50% of Fenty because they own Kendo, Benefit, Ole Henriksen, and a number of the fragrance companies of products featured in Sephora). I increasingly feel like I’m being played for a fool every time I walk into the Sephora. The products are marketed as being unique but so many of the products are owned by the same parent corporation that owns the retailer featuring the products.

    I'm a 59 yo retiree. I think there are a couple of pieces to this middle age thing - I spent 23 years in the Navy having my job and my rank being stressed as my identity- retiring was so hard. It feels like I've lost who I am. My other identity of mother- my kids are all moving for their jobs... So, unlike many people I know, my kids and grandkids are not local. The identity of "mom" is still there but not one I interact with very often. It is partly great, because I feel like I was successful in raising daughters who have no fear about getting a successful career in another state or country if that's what will make them happy. 🤷🏼
    So now, I'm an overweight, disabled Veteran with no job, who is depressed... I don't identify with the person I see in the mirror. I feel like a different person inside this body that I don't really identify with. I'm *very* lucky to have mental health and medical support from the VA. I don't know how I could handle where I'm at right now alone.
    I'm only laying all this out to try to help you - as support for your idea. An example of one of the subscribers who watch you for your advice & excellent makeup tips. Your idea is a very good one. Good luck.
    You know, it might be cool if you could get a female celebrity who has spoken out about mental health involved? Someone who is actually not a b**** in real life. Brooke Shields comes to mind because she's about my age and she had post- partum depression? Someone to just do a blurb on how they feel at their age - and how after some kind of support they feel great...?

    Here in Brazil we had a show on TV with drags helping out middle aged woman with there problems and to gain there confidence back and gave them a drag makeover, with full drag makeup, clothes and even a name they would help the person come up. It was absolutely amazing, I used to watch with my mom and it helped her understand the drag community and herself a lot. If we could have something like that with you guys I think it would be a way to make real change for the person on the show, but most importantly, for those watching. I'm 54 now, and I love your show idea! I think society as a whole ignores and dismisses mature women, and truthfully, women are often the most unkind to one another and especially unkind to those of us with happy lines on our faces. So many can't see the true beauty that is unique to our maturity. Most of the beauty RUclips media I watch is actually for mature women (you guys and Allie Glines are some of the only younger people I'll watch). I believe that as a demographic, we're craving real recognition of all we have to offer, including coming to the realization that we still DO have something to offer the world. Heck, depending upon how you gear the show, you could possibly even get a government mental health grant to help women see themselves differently. (I'm not joking.)

After a 9 year abusive relationship, I am navigating learning about makeup and am just now watching tutorials on how to do eyeshadow, contour, bronzing.... and just what the hell the difference is lol For me it's a whole journey of self care, self love, and also learning what I like and don't like and doing it all for myself not men or my family or anyone else but me. I used to work in radio for over 2 decades. I've done so many interviews with artists, and it took me a while not to ask the run of the mill questions. Listening is the best thing you can do, because it offers you a chance to have a real conversation and talk about stuff no one ever asks about.
    One of my favorite interviewers is Stephen Colbert. He's the champ of listening and asking questions I've never heard before. He's genuinely interested in his guests.

    UK viewer - something you may want to look into is a TV show from British TV hosted by Gok Wan in the 2000s called 10 Years Younger on channel 4. It had a slightly similar premise of focusing on women of a certain age and increasing their confidence with fashion and make up rather than surgical interventions. He was quite a prolific and well known stylist over here at the time so might be worth checking out if just for research.

There’s definitely a gap for a modern take.

    • @shortcake66
      @shortcake66 18 дней назад

      Yeah- very different approaches. Gok showed the person that other people thought they looked pretty good, actually, and then worked on getting their self-esteem up at the same time as showing them more flattering makeup, underwear etc. Nicky on Ten Years Younger ‘polled passers-by’ (totally manipulated) to get a really hurtful estimation of how old they looked and then made them get a load of chemical peels, surgery, dental work etc specifically to ‘look younger’. Gok seemed like he appreciated older women and wanted them to love themselves more, whereas Nicky just seemed disgusted by them.
