I remember when Morgan Adam’s went on one of these brand trips several years ago and she was in tears also. It was so bad that she decided not to deal with any of them again. She wasn’t a beauty RUclipsr to start with. She’s a blogger but, had gotten into makeup some and started showing some of her tutorials in videos. She is Ryland Adam’s little sister, Shane Dawkins now husband. I think it was her connection to them and through them Jeffree Star that she was invited but, was treated like trash the whole time.
White, early 50s, female, and I can afford any product I want. I have changed my ENTIRE make up routine because of Johnny and Kevin. I have learned so much. The two young men deserve a good brand deal. I hope they get a real, honest collaboration where they can choose what products to put their name on. I'd also buy a line of Beautiful and Bothered cosmetics.
Johnny, you’re right - the comedy skits are what initially caught my attention, and they are WAY undervalued by the industry. When I started looking at your other videos, I was hooked! Your honesty and integrity are so refreshing! Then the podcasts started, and choosing to keep Kevin as your co-host was a great idea - you two work so well together. As someone who never had much interest in learning how to wear or to use makeup until just a few years ago (after I turned 50!), I really appreciate the fact that you include options and techniques for my demographic. You have no idea how much that would help boost my spirit to have an influencer do my makeup! I'm a 34 year old mom of two struggling to make it and makeup is the one thing that actually helps me feel good about myself and I'm sure I am not alone in these feelings! I'm also a single mother of 2. I pretty much just quit bothering to even do makeup a couple years ago personally... Mostly because I just got so overwhelmed with all the different products available, also though it's mostly because my eyebrows don't seem to want to cooperate so I just said forget about it! 😅 I know they're cousins and not identical twins, but I can't ever seem to do them dark enough, without OVER doing them. I've been looking into the "no makeup look" including semi-permenent things like lash extensions and tints, and microblading, lip blush etc..... it's a lot to take in though, so I've been just focusing on getting a good skin care routine consistently for now...
I left that comment before watching, I'm half way though 19:43 & they're finally saying exactly what I already thought. These brand trips are just because the tarte lady wants to be close to the 'cool' (mean) 'kids' not to boost sales and actually sell products. She's the farthest thing from cool at this point... I tried getting back into doing a whole face of makeup everyday but between color matching every brand for foundation and concealer and I have hooded eyes so eyeshadow barely shows if I don't want to do a bright eye look I now went back to just mascara some eyeshadow just for myself 😂 and maybe blush. But I feel I am now more focused on a good skincare routine as well bringing it back to the basics !
Seriously, collab with a brand and bring a bunch of us mature (53 here) Midwest women (or come here!) and show/teach us everything - from daily skin care to everyday and beyond makeup. I want to learn from an expert, not an influencer.

I'm neurodivergent and I have really severe social anxiety, so brand trips sound like absolute hell to me too😂 I have to mask in front of my family, so even spending a day with my family is exhausting, spending a day with a bunch of strangers is just waaaaay too much for me. I could never be an influencer for so many reasons tbh😂

@Shannon Unruh-Hallock yeah last year when I went to visit family, I had such a bad breakdown that I actually went home 2 days early because I felt like I couldn't breathe anymore. I'm also disabled with a handful of chronic conditions, and traveling makes a few of them flare up, so that along with my social anxiety makes traveling hell. Traveling with a bunch of people who I don't know when everyone is pretending to be perfect, would honestly be a very good set up for my own personal layer of hell🤣🤷♀️

Brand trips are absolutely work! My husband works in the restaurant industry. So conferences are a must. Yes we get to go to luxury hotels, eat at nice restaurants and attend parties on the vendors dime but he literally works from 8am until he crashes around 11pm. It is NOT relaxing at all! Good for you for making a stance!!

Johnny...I know I've said this in other Comment Sections of your content, but I 'found you' via your "Working at Sephora" shorts...I gave up on makeup several years ago, but I immediately subscribed to your channel because of your aura...your essence. Your BEAUTY - inside and out - combined with your humor, honesty, and humility is THE perfect storm. I told my daughter, who is a few years older than you, that I'd never seen anyone (male or female) who was more BEAUTIFUL. You contiuously confirm in your videos and podcasts why this is so...because life IS hard...and you refuse to sell out to the users and vultures in your quest to be the BEST at it that you can be. You do it your way...and the genuiness of that and the vulnerability that comes with it, only enhances all-that-is-you. I’m well beyond the age that would be your target demographic, but I fell in love with your Sephora skits. Even though I have no idea how to do makeup, they crack me up and the artistry involved in what you do just fascinated me. I’m old, way past where it was “fashionable” to have gay friends, and frankly I don’t give a damn.
I watch your podcast (BTW I looked at some of Kevin’s looks on IG and that boggled my mind!) after I found the Sephora skits. You entertain me and I’ve learned that some of the ethics of the industry makes me cringe. Johnny you look sooo handsome today! Kevin, your face is flawless, as always. Have you heard of a marrying couple inviting some guests to the wedding ONLY and NOT the reception? Or vice versa, NOT inviting someone to the ceremony and ONLY to the reception afterward? I guess this is a thing, and it's completely tacky. So tasteless. That is what these Tarte brand trips remind me of. Other than their newer eyeshadow palettes being ridiculously unoriginal, I love Tarte products for the most part. However, hearing some of the things going with this brand make me really uneasy. So I'm disabled with a heaping handful of chronic conditions and disorders, and im ngl I've had a pretty hard life and I've been through a lot of things nobody should ever have to endure. The one thing I love about myself, is my sense of humor. The first time I was in a coma, when I wokeup and they took out my tube and everything, the first sentence I said was a joke and my mom started crying and laughing saying I look like shit but atleast I still have my sense of humor, and ever since then I've held onto my sense of humor more than anything. That's why I love and appreciate you so much, you don't even understand how many times ive been vomiting nonstop for days and im miserable and literally just want everything to end, and then I'll watch one of your videos and I'll start laughing and forget my BS for a while. You've helped me in very dark times, and I just have such an appreciation for you and everything you do. You have an amazing way of making people laugh, but you're still able to have serious talks about real things. ❤ thank you for everything you do, you really do make a bigger difference than you even know❤

I'm an older woman living in middle America and have bought a bunch of makeup and I bought all of it because of Johnny. I haven't bought any makeup based on advice from female influencers. Johnny's advice always seems much more genuine and he hasn't steered me wrong yet.
I've been binge-watching your podcasts since I was brought over from Allie Glines' videos and you are wonderful! I love that you suggest products for multiple skin types whenever you talk about them. That whole thing with Tarte. Dear gawd, where to begin. I feel like Tarte is one of those companies that thinks ALL PR is good PR. Like, they're just hoping that someone doesn't remember all the horribleness and drama and only remembers their name when they go in somewhere looking for makeup. What a crappy, disingenuous company they are. :( Johnny, I would come to you for makeup advice before I EVER went to a female influencer. I feel like the women are like, "wanna look like me? here's how to do it." Lady, I couldn't look like you if I wanted to and tried. You are SO genuine and real and have so much integrity!!! And just to give you the context, I am a working mum of 2 living in London so in terms of demographics, we are not even in the same ‘pot’. What a great idea for tarte trips! It would be really wonderful if they launched a Mother’s Day collection with formulas that were suited for mature skin and did a vacation giveaway where makeup artists took turns dolling everyone up so those moms could feel extraordinarily beautiful. I would love to support a brand that cherished and celebrated the inner beauty of their consumers. Didn’t the Too Faced CEO put his dog or cat on half of his products? Have an event with the SPCA! Donate money to groom dogs and give the first 100 adoptees palettes! So many brands have these hazy ties to ideals and if they just aligned with those communities and did some good, it would give the brand a heart again!

Honestly never learnt so much about make up than I have from you and Kevin. I stopped wearing it as I just didn’t know how to do it properly but your podcasts I have been binging whilst I’m stuck in bed and so entertained and learning so much! Your reportage of the Tarte "Brand Trip to Hell" is the most complete I've heard. I would guess that it might bring out any social anxiety anyone has, and uneven treatment would be very noticeable. Glad to hear someone tried (?) to apologize, no matter how weakly or the media outlet chosen. It would have been so easy for them to blow it off. I appreciate the willingness to tell of your experiences, Johnny. I have to wonder if Tarte invited any of the male influencers for this trip? PS: Johnny, you do know you can rent a private mailbox? That way, you'd have a shipping address that reads like a street address, and someone to hold your packages for you to pickup so you don't have them stacking up on the front porch if you're not home. It costs a bit, but I don't think that's a worry for you now. Try a UPS storefront shipping center.
