This new severe damage mechanic look like a good change to me. I do think it needs some more time in the oven, as right now it can be very inconsistent. But overall if Gaijin actually manages to make this system work flawlessly I think it will be a good improvement to air realistic battles, and perhaps just WT as a whole.
Also, this video is super rushed; I'm experimenting with making more filler content while working on bigger projects (such as my MiG-21S video) in the background. Игры
And what about the enemies that "dies" like actually dead, gray nickname and everything that manages to get to airfield and repairs. Do that enemy gets a reward for surviving or do you lose that kill?

Although I don't mention this in the video, they are also changing what counts as 'being dead'.
With this new system, one of the following needs to happen for a player to be considered dead:
A. Dead / unconscious pilot.
B. Destruction of every control surface or the tail fall of.
C. Plane crashes into the ground.
D. Enemy pilot J’s out.
This means that, from now on, when a player is considered dead they also physically can’t make it back to their base and repair; if you have gotten a confirmed kill that player is 100% out of the match.

Feels like there might be some exploit with this like getting a friend on the enemy team in GRB and using helis and severely damaging thei heli, them repairing and repeat?
@@ashestodust2313 I think flaperons do, but flaps don't. This is just a guess on my end though.
Ive been killed, made back to base, repaired, and unfortunatelly died again. It counted as 2 different kills and i got 2 deaths in my scoreboard. And it's in the current system, not in the new one. i.imgur.com/i7j3n4R.png
I still love the idea of some sort of incentive or reward for ejecting out of your aircraft instead of just crashing and killing your pilot, or getting pilot sniped in head ons. It would make the ejection seats useful and make it so that people who are flat spinning don't just stay in the plane so that a teammate can come in to finish them off.

@@ferrous3262 more like a penalty for losing the pilot, and a rejection of the penalty for getting him out safely. Maybe just extra crew points to show your pilot gaining experience and living with it.

@@ferrous3262the most expensive part of a fighter is the pilot. The knowledge, experience, and training put into one is not easy to purchase or replicate. With less and less people joining the military (at least in the US), it's even more difficult to have pilots on hand...
It's not losing, it's being smart and saving the most important part of your plane.

when you shot of an enemy's wing off and set them on fire at over 10k meters and they enter a flat spin for over a minute and somebody kill steals less than 1k off the deck
A change that doesn't necessarily take away rewards for playing near teammates is the kinda stuff i hope to see more here. I had a lot of cases where i was a little bummed i ran out of ammo right as i crippled an enemy and a teammate had to finish the kill, now its basically a win-win

I like this. Reminds me of battlefield's kill assist counts as kill mechanic.
If you shot someone and did 80% or more of the hp. (100 HP health bar so 80HP or more)
And someone else then swooped in and yoinked the kill, they'd get awarded the kill both through a kill banner but also on the scoreboard....but most importantly you would additionally get the kill assist counts as kill banner and also get awarded on the score board.
Yes the downside is now it will be harder to track kills and K/D will be less important but realistically I think it's a great change for quality of life and grievances around kill stealing.
Plus let's be honest if your mucking about looking at someone's K/D in war thunder you probably need to find something better to do.
K/D is already muddied by the fact that ai kills count, at least on individual planes. So it's already worthless since you can farm ai to prop it up.
@@BerserkerLuke K/D was always bullshit because like you said, AI was counted towads K/D and kill stealing also boosted K/D massively. Every time someone came in to finish off burning or spinning plane he got +1 kill with zero effort or skill required.

Staying positive, thats what we need more from gaijin and generally in the game.
Get ready for instead of "Kill 25 aircraft etc" to "Kill 125 aircraft in air RB" from special tasks. But I still like this change. I hope this comes to ground RB as well.
25 + 25, as in you need 25 regular kills and 25 of whatever these kills are...
Having this test playlist also retroactively makes smaller player count games which can be another under the radar testing that they are doing.

Is this helpful? Yes it is.
However, it still does not solve Air RB's biggest issue IMO, and something that has turned me off completely from it: The fact that every single game is absurdly one-sided either way.
I am really tired of either having to face off against the entire enemy team because mine disappeared while I flanked or was busy notching a SARH, or having no one to kill because everyone on the other team dies immediately upon contact before you can even warm up a missile.
Matches are currently extremely unbalanced and since we have no game mode with respawns, this problem's severity gets multiplied by a lot...
While this is a good change, I don't think kill stealing is the biggest issue for air RB.
I think 16v16 by itself results in a lot more theft, this is just a band-aid fix
(Also not to mention this is yet another way aircraft earn exponentially more RP than anything else, you can't get 5-digit ammounts of RP in tanks without a booster or literal godlike play)
Obviously it isn't the BIGGEST issue but it was a prevalent issue and its better them taking steps to fix literally anything at this point.

Kill stealing is a huge issue, especially at lower tiers where noobs don’t respect the 1v1 and swoop in to steal a crit enemy. Happens at top tier too but to a lesser extent

In AIR RB a missile woops your ass 8/10 times
3rd party usually its ambiguous due that in a dog fight since you dont know if your allied its in problem or not and cannon down someone its harder in AIR RB and again Weapons are WAY more lethal at top tier and usually they already people respect a plane on flames its already dead. 3rd party on a match its just the Simple element of help your allied specially because the 3rd party term happens Ofthenly when you try to down an enemy and its ally saves him
its not the chase on Low/mid tiers where people Boom n Zoom the target you are chasing and due the nature of the bullets and cannons a Crit its almost fatal enough to finish off someone... specially when its on fire and flat Spin,

The fact that they're letting people test and try it out not on the live server is a nice change. Cannot tell you how many times in the past some change or vehicle has been pushed to live in a completely borked state and it's just like "what are y'all even doing in the dev server? Why does the live server have to be the 2nd round of QA for shit?" I can understand general patches and bugfixes, but shit like the air superiority top dogs just taking a fat dump on 11.3s for a month is a little unacceptable. And I remember, before that update dropped I was expressing concern that the br ceiling wasn't going up and people were all like "bro, it's just the dev server. Calm down. It's not final." And it totally ended up being final for an entire month and some change.
I feel the first thing they should fix is BR compression.
There's enough players in the game for queue times to not be that long.
I havent had a queue more than a minute in years. What they need to do is stop with the 80% uptiers... there IS enough people in the game that it shouldnt be a problem like it is AND i'd wait the whole extra 10secs it might take to matchmake.

This mechanic should be added for all modes, especially naval.
Naval is absolutely broken and i can only assume the engine cant handle the amount of damage that is dealt in a match, the amount of assists you can gain in naval is insane. Alot of times you chew down an enemy BB or Cruiser like 80% of the crew but only get an assist in the end because he had a fire or flooding from someone else and you get basically nothing but an assist for like 3min~ of combat.
That's a change, i asked myself why they did not implement it for years.. good move snail.. a bit slow, but right direction

I think these are really good changes, yes they could be better but everything could always be better and has its negative sides, especially currently where gajin pulled on L after another I think its a really good new Wind! Keep it up Gajin!
Before I watch the video I said out loud "Oh really? This is news to me."
No one mentioned this yet but on the test event, there is no RP boost based on kills. i.e. 2 kills you get 15% more RP mechanic.
Definitely needs to be added to ground rb in some way, like if you take out most major modules, then someone gets the kill instead if you, the something like a 'assist counts at kill' or something

I loved the fact that they finally tested a feature before adding it to the game. Only downside for me was the event mode bricked my RWR for some reason stopping me from getting a launch warning.
I like the severe damage thing so far, it’s interesting as it seems more important than critical hits but easier to get. I get severe damage much more often than a single critical hit.
i play this event and its great change but i notice that atleast in my games there is 12v12 instead of 16v16 and i enjoy it much more

They should go full into saying "Kill Secured" instead of "Aircraft Finished Off" just because it's funny.
My favorite part is that there are still going to be SO many people who say something along the lines of "YOU STOLE MY KILL, I WAS DOGFIGHTING HIM" while they were about to be out turned by said "kill". And then say that this update did nothing.

that's the change I wanted since the begginig, finally gaijin did something right.
I think the most importend part is, that the one doing the severe damage gets 80% of a kill reward and the other one finishing it off gets 40% of a kill reward. What means a kill just spit out 120% of a kill reward and therefor overall more points for everyone. Which means, kill stealing eachother is more beneficial then straight up killing enemys. Gaijin just made killstealing better then outride killing, let that sink in.

I researched two planes easily yesterday from rang IV which for me is incredible performance
The first few seconds made me realise how stunning this game actually is
nothing about the possibility of returning to base with these new mechanics works in top tier matches but it IS possible to do so in the mid tiers if your lucky to not get pilot sniped lol
i think they should keep the kill assists/"aircraft's finished off" as the +(#)
While this will help with not getting as mad gajin needs to fix the long grind still, even with the new severe damage system the issue isn’t enemy kill assisted but the issue is just that the grind is too unnecessarily long.
All I want are larger maps so I can do high altitude BVR
I just had two games back to back with each other.
One was 4 kills/ 4 assists
And the other was 6 kills/ 3 assists
All of those assists were from burning or flatspining planes I left behind...
I had to shut the game off and call it a night.
So far they are still dancing around the real issue.
Getting some of the way to earn points back in the Air Realistic battles.
Right now being in the furball and being a 'good team mate providing cover' is not rewarded anymore and only the "kills count", putting people in competitions against each other even in the same team. When at the start of the game, cooperative work was rewarded.
And there are situations where a lower BR player get jumped by multiple enemies, managing to survive, dodge them all, and bring them low and slow. Having them then killed for trying to all get after 1 targets and the person who managed that feat get 0 rewards at all. I know, I had a couple of battles with 0pts awarded at the end of the battle while being center of the furball. Covering allies, without trying to steal their kills, or just seeing my target obliterated by a missile that was shot from behind me (so taking a huge risk from my own team mate to hit me) while I only had some cannon and needed to get just a bit closer to insure a good shot having no "bazillion ammo counts" to spray and pray.
Gaijin removed all those rewards a long while ago because they argued some peoples were "abusing them". Right now when the battles last so little time, and the absence of ELO rating make sure most battle are extra one sided there are lot of people who don't get any reward while being "team players", and pushed further and further in the "I steal a kill because that's how we can make points, thanks to gaijin".
So them now coming with ways to "correct an issue" they created themselves is hardly something that I call "good", as if they had though about making the game "a good cooperative environment" kill stealing would not happen as much as it happen now.

One issue I see with this is that before I use the amount of kills someone has as game sense, like maybe hes at the airfield or hes a good player or maybe how many enemies there are left, with this, there is going to be a greater amount of kills than deaths which is annoying in like clutch situations for example
this would only matter when a kill steal is involved, which would previously actually hide the good player since he wouldnt get the kill. for figuring out how many enemies are left you can just look at enemy deaths instead, which is already the better method in the first place.
@@DaveHofm thats true, what gaijin should do instead is that make a calculation where if someone does like critical damage which makes the enemy unable to fly, and then someone takes the kill, then the person who did the first servere CRIT should get the kill. The new servere DAMAGE system has many flaws

See it's all ''maybe''. Kill count also didn't mean shit before because you can easily kill steal and boost your kill count. And seeing how many enemies are left is quite easy too, just look at the enemy side of scoreboards LOL.
Also K/D was messed up too thanks to kill stealing. Everyone can boost their K/D by finishing off crippled/burning/spinning planes.
Idk why you would play anything else, there is a new mechanic, 12v12 mm, No IRCCM missiles, in an 11.0-12.0 setting. It is an absolute breath of fresh air from the Normal 16v16 RB Team death match.

i think this change will be good but it will be so anoying when you cant tell if there is a "dammeged plane" and waste a missile and only gte 1k exp
The impact of using events to try out features/changes can not be understated. I think this is a sign of big changes going on behind the scenes.
Since this is for WT, I shall withhold opinion until someone discovers the downside.

Thing is this sounds exploitable, since if you can get a reward for severely damaging an aircraft and have them return to the airfield to heal, then they could be damaged again and again until they die, should they be able to RTB. Not saying this is the case, but from what I have heard this sounds possible on paper.
the downside is cases where severe damage would have been a kill but now if someone finishes that plane off before you you lose out on 20% on the reward you would have gotten.
@@awesomedinosthefirst3494 They are most likely going to reduce sl modifiers because of this. That is the kind of downside I am referring to. This is gaijin. they do not give without taking something away in turn.

That's also very good if it counts for helis. Sometimes they tend to eat 2-3 SAMs because you manage to crit the same compononent every time, and someone steals it just a moment later.
For helicopters idk, this video is exclusively from the perspective of an ARB player.
I got 6 crits on an ah-64 one time with my ZA-35 and set him on fire, i didnt get the kill until he crashed into the ground like 30 seconds later.

I have the f15 was in a dog fight with two planes I took out two pulled the equivalent of a cobra and took out the third that was behind me but he got a missle off took out half of left wing and tip of right wing (not my tail) so I was still able to get two more missle kills and able to fly back and land at airbase to repair barely it was awesome

I believe so, since it also applies to helicopters. In this video I only really focus on ARB, though.
Sometimes you get a hit, but your enemy is on fire (he wont make it no matter what). Will this count as severe damage? cause you'd expect to get severe damage on something like a critical hit only....
No, the most frustrating thing is certainly not getting you kill stolen (at least not for me, I admit I only play AB). To me it is being 30 seconds into an AB BR11+ game and a quarter of you team is already gone, cause it consisted of Wallet Warrior, that only have one aircraft and they got shot down. The second most frustrating thing is the soviet bias, just compare how fast a target gets locked in a MiG-23 (and upwards = 27/29 SU-27) and compare that to your average US Radar (F-4/14/etc). The soviet Radar locks up around half a second faster.
They should fix the 1 death leavers

If they just introduced the new reward mechanics for killing damaged planes, I feel like that could be enough to dissuade kill stealing.
They would just have to put an icon on the player tag somewhere to mark them as already hit.

Ya'll still get the full reward for each kill, if anything you'll probably be getting more since there won't be as much motivation to tunnel-vision a target to make sure you get the kill, which inevitably gets *you* shot down. And if the mechanic actually WORKS, you won't get robbed of assists/kills you 100% should have gotten in the first place. I've had enemies crippled and burning, a teammate swoops in and nabs the kill, and I get absolutely NOTHING despite doing all the work.
6:30 american planes are way better decoys than any flare. why don't they just make TF130 and J79 dispensers for aircraft nowadays?

Unfortunately, they've done just the opposite for ground. There, if you damage a vehicle even if it's severely you rarely get any credit for it at all. In fact I have killed people in a tank, blown Treads off of Tanks etcetera and got no credit for the kill unless I do it myself

But the "kills aren't a testament of skill" argument is already a thing. What will change is that not only the kill stealers will get the ego boost on the statcard, but also who incapacitated the enemy.

Seems like gaijin learned a lesson last year and the game finally turns to the better. Players are happy and will buy more premium account and premium vehicle. Win win situation

Why not just go with the battlefield way where assist gives you exact same reward as kill?
because unlike BF, Kills are very ambigous in this game there no 0 health to grant easily who assist/who kills based on %
also for the reward for the same reason grant 100% to a kill steal its not "fair" because again unlike these games a 90% damaged plane is just 10% capable to defend itself and pretty much dead
that is why Kill stealing in PLanes are a problem in AIR RB and not in thanks

Severe damage is literally just a 'major critical hit'. Which sounds cringy, but is a lot less confusing than 'severe damage' in my opinion.

i think 50% for the aircraft finished off is probably even too much as it should at most be as much as for an assist. on the other hand the plane should be damaged to the point of no return for it to be severe damage.

Finishing off an opponent that has been severely damaged by someone else should count as an assist.
You already get partial credit for "finishing off"

At worst we will have to count the points up and compare it to the kill count to see if someone's trying to pad their frags.
Why should I get an assist for killing an enemy who is still very much combat capable / a threat just because my teammate damaged one of their control surfaces. Especially at top tier, this is an issue.
