My 5 year old grandson spent a few days with us. I was sitting on my chair watching my tank in the dark with the exception of the tank lights. He asked me "why do you look at your fish so much, Grandpa?" I told him because it's like a little piece of nature and it's very relaxing to me. I like watching what the fish are doing and how the plants are growing. He seemed to understand and he stayed there with me and watched for a little while. I loved it.

Here's the things you've done to my hobby experience.
    1. You got me to buy pea puffers which I absolutely love
    2. You got me into cory catfish.. I love those too
    3. You got me into planted tanks... i love them
    4. You got me to appreciate and breed snails to feed puffers and eat algae and leftover food.
    5. You kept me interested in the hobby and got me into breeding these past few years and i am only 16.

Do your thing and be yourself

I have sat and stared at my fish for up to 6 hours straight. I kept tanks for 20 years and just got back into it. I picked fish I'd always wanted and never kept. Picked them for personality, not for being flashy. I keep tanganyikan cichlids. People who come over don't understand it because my tanks don't appear to have fish in them and they aren't colorful. What makes a good tank is getting fish that you researched and enjoy their personality or behaviors, not for being bright and flashy.

I was streaming RUclips on my TV while cleaning and this livestream came on. I realize it’s 2 yrs old but the RO water talk caught my attention. I am involved in both the freshwater and saltwater hobby, and was struggling last year w/my tap water for the FW tank - I just could not achieve PH stability and it cost me dearly. When I looked at my SW tank and realized that, hey, that one is always stable, I knew I had to essentially complicate my FW process to make keeping my water chemistry stable simple. I thought how can I replicate the way I make RO/DI water and add marine salt to it to arrive at perfect stable parameters in my FW tank. That was when I found products like Salty Shrimp and Equilibrium. I landed on a combo of Equilibrium and Alkaline + Acid buffer, and now just make extra RO to use for my FW tank. It solved a real problem for me and gave me the gift of knowing my water is correctly buffered, resulting in stable PH. So for me it wasn’t about chasing a perfect PH, it was about making sure I know exactly what goes into my freshwater at each water change to create stability. I was having better success on the SW side and just thought this is nuts, something needs to change b/c FW isn’t supposed to be this awful. RO/DI kept me in the FW side - otherwise I prob would’ve broken that tank down and turned it into a 2nd SW one!

Aside from being formatted in an entertaining easy to digest way this channel has been a go to for me since I started fishkeeping and been a go to reference when needing to direct others to good information. It’s so much easier to direct someone to a reputable source of information instead of trying to explain to someone in petco that they can’t put two angel fish and a loach in a five gallon tank.

One thing I've found is that it's all about location...! I'm in Florida, so I generally have to do the opposite of maybe 50% off your advise/solutions... i.e. anything temperature related, my tap water comes out at 88-92 degrees farhanheit in July/August... I just got my first RO unit and now I'm finally able to hatch angel eggs, they just calcified before due to the off the charts hardness... And I'm now able to keep German rams alive... I'm using 50/50 mix in most tanks, but to get angel & Bolivian ram eggs to hatch(just acquired Germans, no spawn yet) and not calcify, I'm using 80/20 mix(80RO/20tap)... I'm still loving y'alls educational content and loving what Cory's doing and has done for the hobby...! Can't wait for what's next...! Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!!!

Ik this is an older post but I watch all your videos your unboxings and your adventures of collecting exotic fish all over. But this video really hit home and I feel this video got really deep and hit home with you when it came to enjoying your tanks and I feel like I could tell you feel slightly disappointed about yourself with enjoying your own tanks when your so passionate and very dedicated to what you do. I appreciate you and everything you do I envy your knowledge on everything about fish and aquariums. Your living my dream doing all that you do for a living dont loose that fire that really got you to where you are now. Your fucking awesome and I appreciate all you give to this community

    Oase filter:
    1) Heater gasket and main gasket should be made of the same quality material so they will likely wear and fail about the same time.
    2) Floating media does a better job staying clean and aerated.
    3) I'm sure the split in the blue sponge has a reason for it that we just can't figure out off top.
    4) Keeping the primary media clean with a fine prefilter is the whole point of the prefilter. That way you only clean the prefilter and everything else remains untouched.

I love how your videos are slower more down to earth. I feel like other channels videos are too rushed. Like they really don't care about teaching and more about views and being a people pleaser of impatient people.

Vibra Bites are great...! I feed it daily...! Also Tetra color granules, Hikari sinking & floating gold... Extreme krill & spirulina flakes... I've gone away from Hikari algea wafers and use Xtreme bottom wafers instead. Everything attacks those... Frozen blood worms, brine & beef heart... also freeze-dried blood worms, but I generally only use them when I get em for free from the local stores... thanks for another awesome video, and go enjoy some nature today...!

A good aquarium is a environment that the fish can strive in but with that it also provides them with the ability to interact with their owner without causing any unnecessary fear , anxiety, stress, or poor quality of life to any of the fish. It is for the owner to set up and enjoy but i am firm in my thinking it has to be good for the fish or it isnt good for anyone. meaning not over crowding the tank, or putting fish in a stressful tank just to be able to have them , as tank mates are very important to think about, my fish are a part of my life. I had several tanks years ago and just recently got back into it as i have more time at home then before and i can devote the time needed to the hobby as i wanted to. I was a plant manager on a stressful job and just didnt have time for the past 20 years. So glad i am now part of this hobby once again. I went from having no tanks to 9 tanks since late October. My wife is a little worried as I had 13 when we got married 30 years ago and she knows i may not stop for a while yet as i just enjoy every aspect of it. The care, the art of it, the fish interactions can be so amusing, i find it peaceful in my otherwise stressful world. As someone said in the comments i am also enjoying fish that i didnt keep before. I now have koi, angel fish, Oscars, cichlids, and then of course my community tank with tiger barbs, red tail sharks, clown loaches, and i plan to add molly's yet and i am so happy to say in two days my dwarf puffer will be here. I am excited for that , And i am tickled to the thought of having sea horses very soon. I have 2 outdoor ponds and i am now working on a 160 gallon indoor pond for some turtles for my grandsons. and i know this is long but i am just so thankful to have done this with the help of my family but most importantly i can say Aquarium co op has been the foundation of my re found passion for this hobby. Your easy to follow videos as your a great speaker, very knowledgeable. You don't make me feel stupid for not knowing something as i have been out of it for 20 years , yea im old. but i walk away feeling like i know i can figure it out with the info you give me, you somehow keep it fun, you thoroughly cover the info without losing its flair as some video makers out there seem to talk as long as i wrote this, just endless right. , you are good at what you do and then your good hearted personality just brings it all together. I think a lot of this channel as my oldest daughter and i watch it together as she is 8 months pregnant and its nice to have something we enjoy together from learning to achieving it together and then watching the fish as we go along. So from us both thank you , we hope to see you in many more shared videos for years to come. I can see Discovery channel as a possible addition for you and thats just one of many options im sure. Thank you again...

A happy healthy tank. When you know all your fish and plants are healthy and alive. That's what makes a good aquarium. I have a bare bottom with a piece of drift wood and tons of male guppies. I have another sanded tank with tons of plants. this is also a good tank.

Hi Cory, right now its summer in Adelaide Australia, I have a 280ltr outside tank with a sponge filter it has Ryokin and Endler var. guppies, all growing well and guppies are breeding. Goldfish at 30c providing the oxygen exchange and flow is fine, they will do really well - assuming all other aspects are good practises. Even on 45c days the tank doesnt get much higher than 31c.
I love watching it when Im working from home.

Cory I just watched this video for the first time, let me just say, BEST FILTRATION VIDEO EVER!!!!! I could not agree with you more on every single point with regards to the canister filter you reviewed. Sadly these days it seems that most of the crap on the market available to hobbyists is all made in China and all designed by persons who have never ever actually ever touched an aquarium!!!!

What you are saying is correct. What I'm seeing in other type of
products is that fanufacturers are listening but not compansating those
telling them how to improvie and provide the customer what they want.
The take the ideas, make the changes, and then slip past you. ... have
    fun.

oh, and not sure I agree with you on the media floating. Don't think it matters in a canister filter because it's contained and has no where to float to. Keep in mind I've not seen the filter, seen a pic or in anyway have experienve with that filter.

That’s funny you mention what a good tank is. Few days after I set up my first aquarium which was a planted 7gal betta tank. I sat there for about 15 mins just watching. But I still feel I can improve. I’m starting to get algae on plants so I know it’s not perfect. Theres improvements to be made forsure. But my betta loves his tank. He swims all day. Sometimes when he’s hiding and I come into the room he comes out of hiding and just stares at me so of course I acknowledge him.
