I had the pleasure of spending a week with the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake, my first experience of a car from Hyundai's luxury brand...and oh what luxury this car provides!
Stats are as follows:-
* 1998cc Petrol Inline 4-cyl
* 0-62 mph : 6.9 secs
* Top Speed : 146 mph
* Torque : 353 nm
* Power : 241 BHP
* Combined MPG : 30.2
* Boot Space : 465 Litres
This is a tech-laden car that drives superbly, in my opinion, the chassis offers a great balance between performance and comfort, it never feels mushy but never feels too hard; most importantly it always feels engaging. Steering is first-rate with excellent feedback and quick response to input adjustments.
The only real downsides are cost (purchase price and running costs) and in my opinion, the rear passenger space and boot space should be slightly more generous for a car of this type in this highly competitive segment.
I hope you enjoy this very honest car review, I'm gutted to be handing the car back to Genesis. I really cannot wait to drive some more Genesis vehicles in the future as this one kind of has me hooked.

Enjoyed this review. I own one - sport line in black. I absolutely love it and feel it’s been unfairly panned in a lot reviews. For anyone considering one, I’d say this review is spot on. I came from a 3 series touring to the G70 and whilst the BMW has a bit more feel in the corners, the G70 is just a nicer car all-round. Lovely cabin with great tech, fast enough, drives really well and great comfort. Boot could be bigger and MPG could be better but I overlook those things as it works for me & my family of 4 99% of the time. I like the fact it’s different too…gets loads of attention wherever I go and I’ve had so many compliments on it.
All I can say is that my channel is not funded by the traditional car companies paying for advertising. None of the major mainstream review sources can really say that….great car that I’d love to own.

I like this car. I would be far more inclined to buy this than a German premium car, and it will probably be more reliable and last longer. Tremendous review, really thorough and realistic. Look where Hyundai and Kia have come from these last two decades, and imagine where they will be by 2030 and beyond...

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru It is, but it's also about a different design and engineering philosophy. The Japanese and South Korean brands are more about the engineering and components rather than perceived quality, hence their relatively higher reliability, but add plush interiors and more prestigious design, and you have the beginnings of genuine competition to the German manufacturers.
Keep up the good work, Jim. I watch most motoring channels out here (former buyer) and your reviews are right up there with the best.

Great video, on the point about the restrict view from the mirror, I would think that there will be a switch to press for the rear camera. I have a Hyundai Ioniq and that has one that gives a great view of what’s going on behind you when driving. Keep up the good work with the great range of informative video content.👍
Thanks Shaun. Yes, this is an old fashioned mirror and I personally think it could have just been slightly better designed/positioned so as not to have to trouble the cameras. A small flaw in a pretty serious car.

Great review again. Feedback: I like the Everyman review style your doing over the car snob review style others do. Don’t get me wrong Matt Watson, and others are good and deliver good content. But yours is far more practicable and applicable. I love the sentiment of is it a good EV, or good petrol; in fact more importantly is it a good car. That’s a Good if not better measure. Stick with that.

I live in South Korea currently so there are Genesis cars absolutely everywhere and they are amazing to drive! So I was hoping they would be more widely available and affordable when I return to the UK 😁😎

Hey Jim, really pleased you enjoyed the car. I do a lot of work for Genesis so have been fortunate enough to have driven the entire range. If you can, try and get the GV80 for a week. That will really blow your mind! Keep up the good work.

Great review, MPG bothers me, but love the car. Would be nice to see where it sits with other models from the same brand. Looking forward to the GV80 review.
I did a short motrway run in it last night (40 miles round trip) and got 33 mpg from it but around town it's circa 25/26. I'm also looking forward to the GV80 (and the G80 which is coming the week before!)
It looks like a nice car from the drivers seat, and it would be good to see other areas of the car like the boot space etc, also, some information on what models the car is up against within it's market segment against the competition would be useful. Good review though, look forward to your next one, keep up the good work.

I did try the Genesis SUV range before the BMW X3 M40I decision and purchase. BMW and the model range i choose, for me and the wife personally being the clear winner.
But, I will not slate and list my negatives with Genesis, as everyone is different, has different tastes, require or need different things and all within our own individual budget availability where one persons like, is another persons 1st World annoyance. So reviews like yours really help. Great Honest Review, Great Work

Jim you mentioned the fussy steering wheel ! Could trying to deal with this overload be dangerous when driving . IE eyes of road .
It’s not that bad it’s probably just got 3 buttons too many in fairness.
Stunning looking car ,no surprise now that Kia and Hyundai are producing such quality they’ve been knocking the established brands out the park especially on the EV front ,depreciation may be a killer need to wait and see….👍
I guess depreciation will be bad if they don't become "popular" but I really hope they do as it's a great car. I'd personally take one over a 3 series, C class or A4 right now.

Hi Steve, I think it's a rival to Lexus, BMW, Audi, Mercedes et al. MPG is an issue compared to similar offerings but it's quite a special thing in many other ways. 👌👍

Interesting vehicle - definitely has the quality and gadgets but not sure I’d spent £40-50k on a car nobody has heard of (as I’d get sick of people asking what it was!). Good review though👍

I really like the interior design and layout. Very bright and quite modern packed with clever features.BUT I don’t like the exterior design, especially the back of the car…not for me. And 50 grand Jim, I wouldn’t buy a brand new one, if you can wait a couple of years surely you’ll find a good spec one around 25k. Personal opinion, of course! 👍🏻

I had no clue this model existed. I saw their SUV last year - whatever they call it - and was surprised to find out Genesis are selling cars in Europe again. That SUV was fairly bland from the outside. This car though is a bit more intriguing. From side profile it looks more like a stretched hatch than proper estate (bit like the late 90's/early 00's Subaru Impreza).

Audi bmw jaguar and vw will be sweating over this brand, i think they could of dropped a hybrid in this, i know an ev version is coming, but outside London the charging system really isn’t there and the government about to tax ev cars, a hybrid would of given another power option.
A hybried would have made a great deal of sense but you're right about Audi, BMW, Jag.
