- Genesis is the posh off-shoot of Hyundai. They’ve just arrived in the UK, with not one, but a full range of new cars - all of which look incredible and seem to offer great value for money. We look at three new models, including a few full EV ones, and ask if this is going to be the next Korean brand to take the world by storm.

I bought the Electrified G80 last July, and in virtually one year I have to say its the best car I've owned, and that's coming from 20 years owning several new Jaguars, and seven years with a Maserati Ghibli. My car is to the same external colour (the interior of mine is 'Arctic white), and like the car you drove fully optioned (albeit without the Executive pack - essentially screens in the back, and soft close doors) and at the time was £77,500, which.made it more than 10 grand less than the much slower Merc EQE.
I never cease to be amazed at the attention the car gets from passers-by, who usually think its a Bentley or Aston. The link with Bentley is in fact there thanks to Bentley's ex cheif of design responsible for the design of the G80. BTW tye E G80 is marginally over 5 metres in length...
Why she looks more and more stuning every year?
I like the GV60 form when i first saw it. Im not at the stage to jump to an EV yet, but hope to have a few used ones about when i am.
Genesis G70 Shooting Brake is stunning!
yeah it's a great looking thing
Modern Wagons are mostly stunning. 2nd Gen Volvo V60, Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered, Taycan Sport Turismo and up coming Audi A6 eTron Avant. They all look sleek and elegant.
Loving MY 2.5T GV70, replaced my beloved, high mileage, aging but beautiful 2015 audi allroad.
I own a G80 (petrol) and they are indeed very nice to drive, comfortable and with a decent amount of tech. I'd buy another one for sure.
Don’t understand why she didn’t test drive the best looking one in the middle, petrol still very relevant in 2023.
The show is supposed to be exclusively about electric cars (at the moment)
Would be successful if they could repair their own cars. I have one in the fleet I look after, and 3 out of 5 dealers won't fix bodywork damage, won't sell the required parts to bodyshops and don't allow Hyundai or Kia dealerships to service or repair these cars. Yet it's a redressed Hyundai, who along with Kia have years of experience dealing with electric cars made by themselves.
If Genesis sort this out, they could survive in the UK, but their current setup will see them fail.
Thats where are you are wrong, it is not a redressed Hyundai. Every single car in the lineup are Genesis only platforms.RWD fyi.
@samirsadixov I think you'll find they platform share with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai ionic 5. As Genesis and Kia are both owned by Hyundai, this makes sense as it reduces costs. Your welcome to research this fact and I will accept your apology for being wrong in advance.
@@DaveD1980 Battery pack platform for EV model, Hyundai E-GMP. All ICE cars are different.
@@samirsadixov but the GV60 is ev only so a redressed Hyundia
And how many people are going to look at those bonnet badges from a distance and think, _"Oh..! Is that a new Bentley?"_
This should have been titled “Genesis - the Firth of Fifth Gear”
I see what you did there.
I am loving what I see, nice indeed, however I will like to see them in more places in the world. Even the small island nations.
0:28 Half a scone topped with jam first, then clotted cream .. the other, very much the opposite. Take a stand, Vicki.
I have a peugeot 508 serious considering a g80 saloon 2.2 diesel
We have one on our fleet at Battersea Power Station in London available for test drives 😊
0:41 Vicki, it’s pronounced “Hyun-day”, by the way.
What are jewel motors? 🤷♂️
Aging like a fine wine.... Cars are nice too 😅
Had to watch it a second time after your comment… I'll be damned, there were cars in this video! 😂
Genesis Europe is currently present in three countries, the UK, Germany and Switzerland.
It will expand to new European countries, but managing director Lawrence Hamilton says that will not happen in 3-5 years’ time, ie not before at least 2026.
I think France, the Benelux area, Sweden, Italy, Spain, Austria, etc should be the biggest priorities for Genesis Europe’s expansion. And in case you’re living under a rock, Benelux is Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.
Dave, why be a dick? The term Benelux has been around longer than your soppy ass! 🤡
I love your videos. ❤
I still don't understand how Hyundai is pronounced _hai und dai_ :P
Genesis does what the Germans don’t.
EVM liked the Genesis GV60
Nice engagement ring Vicki!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Who cares about the cars.🥶
why wouldn't you test the only real car there?
UK luxury market also Lexus.....
Typical Fifth gear euro biased old-school, 15 years behind other car-journalists. The video did not even showed the small shooting brake, she did not mentioned the GV 60’s interior quality which makes it feel like an Aston Martin and makes Audi or Mercedes interiors of this category feel Cheap! Don with fifth gear… the only reason I watched this because I was curious how ignorant it will be towards a proper review of a non German car. My neighbor village RUclipsr car reviews have more views than fifth gear… good luck
“Shooting Brake” What a model name. 😅
Shooting Brake is a style, not a model name.
@@ThisGuyRides it’s still a great moniker no matter what.
Vicki Butler-Henderson only loves German cars. She suffers from a closed mind. Poor girl.
That jewel ball shifter thing feels like a cheap gimmick that is not needed and will likely need maintenance or replacement down the road.
The Hyundai Group did a nice job using their EV platform to create multiple unique EVs. The GV60 seems to be one of the weaker options of those EVs made on their platform due to the retail price.
It is not surprising that looks and features are reminding people of European vehicles when you consider how many former BMW and Audi people have joined the Hyundai Group. Considering Chinese EV builders have been snapping up European builder executives and designers over the past couple of years, I suspect the appeal of Chinese products will skyrocket in Europe and other Western nations. We have already seen a few examples of that. No doubt the Volvo team have has had an influence on the Geely vehicle lines in general.
It is crazy watching this in 2024 when the brand is no longer in the UK
@Andy-vt8fb from what carwow says ‘brand Genesis will no longer be a standalone company in the UK from January 2024 after parent company Hyundai took the decision to merge it into the Hyundai operation.’
Disappointing: she didn’t show the only interesting one…
Lol Scotty Kilmer would not recommend anything Korean
You can afford lol. Maybe you can
Genesis > Germans
An inconclusive video
Please , cars which are affordable 😢
Love from india 🇮🇳
I personally don’t like the look of these cars.
Why Genesis unfortunatly doesn´t work in Europe is because of styling. Hideous. I don´t like it, no one I know like it and I have never ever heard of anyone here liking it... "Styling". Small medium large??? Is that a joke? Rather huge, large, or huger in European terms...
Imagine being stranded cos the crystal ball in your car wont turn over. No thanks, Hyuandai.
Behind the times and not even the best models!
Tesla all the way
Cheaply built, nasty, overpriced one trick ponies...
Fifth gear use to be great. Now just boring EVs 😡
Such a shame..
