One of those hidden gems of a game from the late NES era. Also, in the beginning of the game, after you pull the self destruct switch, if you examine it again it tells you "guess you didn't fall for that one". This game was just full of great one liners. Thank you for this.
I think I may have mentioned this on a previous video, but Beam Software was a very talented developer who made an extremely advanced Lord of the Rings text adventure that told super well and got screwed when the publisher took the profits and sold Beam off, leaving Beam in a position where they had to work almost exclusively on cheap licenses and ports, many of which are infamous now. Nightshade was one of the few times they got to show what they were actually capable of.

Sutek is plain stupid to reveal that he takes quite the damage with the staff proyectile the 1st time you use the talk command... not that if matters really much as it is better to just punch him up to 3 times per-summoning cycle) or aproaching him like most of the enemies of the game.

Happy to see one of my requests come to fruition! I used to love this game and its story, but could never quite figure out the midgame so I never properly beat it until later in life.
A truly underrated gem of 1992. I always thought this would be a cool game done a la drakes fortune or tomb raider. Or maybe like the world tour mode from Street Fighter 6. I could imagine it having that combat system like the batman Arkham games, or spider man or ghost of Tsushima. After all, the game's backstory posits that Mark Grey (Nightshade) is a skilled martial artist. I always imagine it done with that early evening purple and blue and orange sky aesthetic that Nightshade had.
0:12 Wait a second, is that Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom in the upper left corner? Jesus I know so few people who know about that game I thought I hallucinated the thing.
Love your content (really helped me through Ghosts n Goblins, Castlevania II, and Zelda II!!)- if you make an episode on Castlevania III, I will be forever indebted to you
Wow this game looks great. Interesting gameplay, nice graphics. Looks like another gem I have overlooked. I especially like the effect on the vanishing ninja girl, looks cool!
Goon: "We did it! Nightshade is unconscious. You want we shoot em?" Sutekh : "No. Tie him to the ultra elaborate death trap I meticulously devised with pulleys, conveyor belts, moving walls and spikes. " Goon: "What? But that's so complicated. Look, we can just shoot him right n-" Sutekh: " NO!!! "
I was wondering when you wee going to cover this one! Even when I was a wee lad I could recognize how this is one of the most unique NES titles out there, but even as an adult, the combat was just too frustrating for me to finish it, so I'm sure this guide will help me with that. I need to take a break from The Binding of Isaac: Repentance anyways, and this looks like the perfect opportunity.

Also, since I'm early and you have a chance to see this comment, I'd like to request, again, that you consider adding children's sizes for some of your tshirt designs! My daughter loves your videos.
I remember the article on this one in Nintendo Power. I wanted to play it, but I never saw it on sale anywhere. Nice to see a complete playthrough of it.
I love Shadowrun, it's an amazing game for both SNES and Sega, I like the Sega one more though, it gives me a harder challenge. The PC versions are awesome as well.
Sega Shadowrun was legit amazing.
@@popejoeii I still own the cartridge for that one.
Speaking of Shadowrun...that may be a good one to do
It’s like a Rorschach game, reminds me of the watchmen
57:08. I didn't expect a Fawlty Towers reference. Noice.
Happy to see one of my requests come to fruition! I used to love this game and its story, but could never quite figure out the midgame so I never properly beat it until later in life.
I never heard of this game actually. But I loved warching the Deja Vu and Maniac Mansion walkthroughs a lot. I'm excited!
Nightsahde's look is far more evocative of the look of the Pulp novel heroes of old, rather than superheroes.
I wish I had found this game as a kid, looks like something I would have enjoyed. thanks for bringing this one to my attention, it was a fun watch!
I really like the obscure games on this channel. Never even heard of this game.
0:12 Wait a second, is that Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom in the upper left corner? Jesus I know so few people who know about that game I thought I hallucinated the thing.
Loved this game! I waited patiently (in vain) for a sequel for years. Alas none were made.
Love your content (really helped me through Ghosts n Goblins, Castlevania II, and Zelda II!!)- if you make an episode on Castlevania III, I will be forever indebted to you
One of my favorite games from my childhood. Thanks for the detailed replay.
Thanks for beating this game for me, big brother, lol. Usually, I am the big bro tasked with beating the games, lol.
Looks like Sutek didn't spring for the "self-destruct upon supervillains defeat" evil-lair package. 😁
Your intro-sequences are must watch.
Wow this game looks great. Interesting gameplay, nice graphics. Looks like another gem I have overlooked. I especially like the effect on the vanishing ninja girl, looks cool!
Goon: "We did it! Nightshade is unconscious. You want we shoot em?"
Sutekh : "No. Tie him to the ultra elaborate death trap I meticulously devised with pulleys, conveyor belts, moving walls and spikes. "
Goon: "What? But that's so complicated. Look, we can just shoot him right n-"
Sutekh: " NO!!! "
Let me tell you a little story about a man named Shhhhh!
Also Sutekh: "Bullets attract cops!"
I loved Maniac Mansion but never heard of this game. It looks amazing!
Absolutely helps! I started on my switch and had no idea what to do after getting un-tied!
Everyone thought Beam Software made a lot of drivel but they had a couple of AWESOME hits with Nightshade on NES and Shadowrun on SNES.
