First comment on RUclips in like a decade to tell you this channel is amazing. Collecting is cool, speeding are cool, glitches and hacks and all that are cool, but let's actually celebrate the games! Gameplay is where it's at.. History, strategies, secrets, etc get added on top for the whole package. My favorite so far is you naming all the enemies. Bravo, sir. And keep it up.
Been recovering from surgery this last 6 days. Been binge watching your videos. I have always wished for a channel that would walkthrough older games that I played or played a few times and show you all the secrets and items/story. I love that you take so much time to put as much work into these as you do! It's really helped get my mind off the pain I've had. Thank you!
@@princesssprinklesthecat4192 They gave me something for the pain. But not sure what. Im allergic to some of the good stuff sadly. But Things are all good now. Worst month of my life.
Seriously well done video. You are the “Lock Picking Lawyer” of video games. (That’s a compliment). You give us everything we want and none of the BS so many other channels default to. Thank you!
Hold down "A" while pressing Start on the Game Over screen and you can continue the game without having to start all the way back over from the beginning.
I used to have a hell of a time getting the line to cross the gap in the overhead portion. I remember a crazy glitch where i warped to the final castle near the beginning of the game unlike the one in this vid. Love this game still.. classic
I absolutely loved this game as a kid. It was mysterious, challenging, great music, cool boss and level design etc. It was the first game that I felt made use of the NES Advantage turbo button control. Id crouch in the early level hold attack and let the enemies come at you then grind for OP early on. It took forever but that was the 8-bit era. The music was just fantastic. I clearly remember the music in the underground level that u fight a big spider on a web, to this day but music was good on several other levels too. Something about the vertical and sky levels gave u a sense of 'heights' like no other NES title imo. The hermits and Indora were so cool and creepy. Beating levels and finding your way through the upper levels was so rewarding. The graphics and epic skylines were so well done for 1987. I believe I mistakenly found the first glitch and possibly separately the second but too young to know how to capitalize on them. Can't believe this is on the Switch downloadables but not the 3DS. Such a bummer. I come here for my Rygar fix! Thanks 🙏🙏
23:00 One thing not mentioned is to not turn around (scroll backwards), even a bit. this can respawn the flying creatures behind you, resulting in them on both sides flying towards you on small platforms.
If you had asked me yesterday to list off a hundred games I *want* to see covered on this channel, Rygar would never have made the list. If seven-year-old me had made a list of a hundred games I thought I could *never* beat, Rygar would have been near the very *top.* Asbsolutely outstanding video. Keep following your instincts. I can't wait to see the next one!!!
I’m going to have to dust off my nes and take a stroll down memory lane after watching this. Another outstanding video. If I were you, I’d start thinking about merch designs, because it’s only a matter of time before your channel explodes. Look forward to more great vids!
He’s not joking. You are knocking these out of the park every video. You have no panic in your voice, so it makes me believe that I can do it too. And I definitely agree about a shirt or some kind of merchandise.
@@robertcatania1120 UCBVG has a ton of great merch material from his vids. Your suggestion is a good one, plus the dog with the headset and controller is a marketing goldmine.
I love these so much. Been watching them all, even the ones for games I never played. There's nothing else quite like them on RUclips. Keep it up!!! 👍⭐
"Quirky controls leading to frustrating deaths" yep, that's what I remember about my time with this game. Glad I'll just get to watch you beat it for me.
Thumbs up for reviewing this gem . One of the great NES game . i have beat this game at least once a year since 1988 !!! Willow , fanaxadu , Metroid , zelda , rygar , startropics ... so many great adventure on the NES . What a great childhood !!!
WOW!! Several NES games back in the day, were limited continues, no extra lives and such, and Rygar is the one with no continues. The channel is amazing for the old school games and I look forward to learning more about NES Zelda, Blaster Master and others! This video was surprisingly recent and I'm glad to see a guide for this very difficult and sometimes confusing game and indeed the controls can be confusing! Have subscribed!👍❤️
I'm so glad I got to watch this video, finally I can see what full game looks like, as a non english speaker kid, this game was confusing as hell, I did manage to get the grappling hook and crossbow, but didn't know where or how to use it, I also assumed it was a weapon, also didn't know the tone meaning nor the yellow shield like thingys. great video.
These secrets are unimaginable! I didn't know it's possible to beat the game like that. And even after watching this video I still think the 1st boss is the hardest.
Rygar was definitely one of my favorites back in the 80's. I didn't finally beat it until the early 2000s during my first game development job. It was just at the beginning of flat screen TVs so we still had old CRTs on our desks for testing. We rarely used them so I plugged in my ol' NES and fired up Rygar whenever I had downtime. When I eventually beat it I was so proud and enamored by the final screen I left it on for days until my boss told me to shut it the hell off. Even after I insisted I was deep in studying how a bird can flap its wings for so long yet never move...so majestic...yet so confounding. This the first of your channel I have watched and it was great. Might I recommend another Tecmo classic, Solomon's Key. Could be in your wheelhouse? Rather challenging action puzzler with some slappin' music. Although figuring it out on your own is super addictive some would probably welcome a entertaining comprehensive strat guide to the trickier tricks. But you do you. In the meantime I am going to go watch some more of the trails you have apparently blazed thru my old memories.
The superior version. I remember when I first beat this such a classic. My mind is officially blown with the level warps after all these years wow. Those flying creatures with the bubble looking things, that music that came out we use to call it beetle juice for some reason lol
When I played this as a teenager I didn't know you only had to use the power up spell once and it worked until your character died I would use it after every few screens
Great video. I like how you cover the lore and post info about the game over on the sides. Like enemies and special items etc. Makes for a very pleasant and informing experience.
Love Rygar!!❤ Thanks for your awesome vids! Love your intro with your Golden. I just got myself a Golden last year, that just makes your vids even more cool! Keep up the great job!👍👍🍻🍻
My buddy and I were in the arcade the day they wheeled this game in for the first time. We played it until we ran out of quarters. It quickly became our favorite! Still ranks as one the best arcade games of all time. Always wanted to get the arcade version in my home!
I recall playing Rygar for nearly a full day 30+ years ago. I believe I used a turbo controller to level him up for half the day since enemies would keep popping up on screen at a constant rate in many places. While most walkthroughs will simply direct you to complete objectives which is fine, you actually account for "how" you level up and a reasonable way to do it w/o making it feel like a grind. Your Crystalis video is an excellent example of that though w/just a max level of 16, I would hardly consider that much of a grind unless you expect to get most of your levels before reaching the point after clearing the ocean. Since Nintendo offers multiple NES games on the Switch if you join their online subscription for a fairly cheap rate, I expect more people will discover these NES games you and others are covering which is nice to see since the difficulty has largely been removed now that you have the ability to save whenever you want. Thanks again, was great seeing this game's glitches as well!
I loved the Mt. Primeval theme! Didn't have a book or hints when I got this game all those years ago, so figuring it out was a nightmare! Well done video and thanks for the nostalgia!
Gods this one makes me feel weird. I spent three decades looking for this one, after renting it ONCE in my childhood. My mother was able to beat it, I couldn't get out of the first level. It's a memory I cherish at times, but still, it's a good game, for what it was trying to be, and thank you for helping me relive it.
I gotta say, it's pretty rad that you're a search suggestion now. Just shows how much your channel has grown. As I said in your Crystalis video, every view and like is WELL-deserved. Anyway... Ah, Rygar. This... is one I actually HADN'T played growing up. I didn't play it until about... ten years ago, I want to say? Could have been longer. Anyway, it's a game I enjoyed, but I never finished it as I started playing other things. I should go back and play it through all the way. I'll definitely be listening to your tips for it if/when I do!
It cracks me up how you refer to the enemies by their ridiculous names from the manual. "Avoid taking damage and just jump past the Flippity Floppity Floop here and continue on to the next screen"
Thank you. I played this as a small kid over 30 years ago and finally was able to finish it and clear my mind of it with your help… and a save state or 100. I bet I could do it eventually without it as once your learn the tricks you shared it’s pretty easy.
HOLY COW...... I never thought you could walk on and through the walls in Ligar's castle, even after the glitch warp..... Now i wish i never got rid of the game. Very cool!
I have always loved this as a kid, I remember when my mother bought it for me for my birthday. I could NEVER beat it but it was always a fun trip into the world. NES really did a great job with this one . just the atmosphere was great I played for hours but never getting anywhere lol it was a BIG MAZE... thanks for these videos!

i loved this game growing up, awesome choice for a video. 7 yr old me salutes you this game was so tuff i could barely get passed the first boss. Its still one of my favorites and is still super tuff at times. Trying to use the pully to cross streams and such on that rope was horrid id always fall in. Another great video! I'm just sad you didn't mention the healing hermit right at the beginning of Eruga's Forest. For some reason I loved that they had him hidden away up there.
This takes me back. I always did my level grind at the robot guy first thing. I figured out some fun glitches back in the day in the Garloz area where you can jump back and forth between screen changes and work yourself into some walking paths that shouldn't be. I think I might have done it in the final area as well, but I've never seen those boss glitches which are great!
Dude! U are the man. I've never beaten this game. Me and my brother used to rent this. We've gotten to end boss but never won and the soundtrack is soooo nostalgic. Thx!
Wow! Rygar has been a favorite since I was a kid. I still play it fairly often, and beat it in less than 30 minutes no sweat. I thought I knew everything about it, but I'd never heard of that wrong warp! I've never really used glitches, but you coukd clear this in about 5 minutes that way!
To cross with the wind pulley, aim for the rope to hit at your waist at the point where your top half hits your bottom half. A.K.A. where you would wear a belt at your waist is where you want to meet the rope to cross. You can't miss if you do this accurately/correctly.
Great video! As always you get me to turn on my Wii and play NES. I was able to finally beat Zelda after 25 years of giving up. Love the documentary you put up first before showing the play thru.
Great game! You always do a thorough job with each game. I’d love to see a “behind the scenes” some day to see how you do this on a consistent basis. I don’t want you to give away your “secret sauce” though. Great job as always
Thanks Josh - I've been getting faster because I've been researching and practicing multiple games at once. I'm mostly just taking what I already know, and then trying to learn as much as possible, then test that stuff out to see what's actually good information, and what's BS.
The overworld song for Ligar's castle is one of my favorites. Back in the day this game would kick my ass on NES and watching you beat it (3 times!) in less than an hour is making me a sad panda lol Great guide!
I only beat rygar for the ps1 -2. I played this at my cousins house when i was little and kept dying. Watching this gives me a fighting chance, thank you👍
Something else to note that the overhead stages had pits, but in some cases, you can jump right over the pits landing on what you would think is the side of the opposing wall, but it acts like solid ground. In addition, in these overhead areas, you are for the most part invincible while jumping, so where you are farming for Exp in that one area where the song is just 4 descending notes, you can jump and as long as you don't land on the enemy you are farming, you can jump and hit them and knock them further away.
Yes! Thanks dude. I love that you are doing all my favorite NES titles. And even on the games I knew inside and out you you manage to teach me new tricks.
First comment on RUclips in like a decade to tell you this channel is amazing. Collecting is cool, speeding are cool, glitches and hacks and all that are cool, but let's actually celebrate the games!
Love these NES and SNES games, those were tge systems of my childhood. Great video as always.
First game I had for the NES. No box, no manual. Best game i have nostalgia for.
This was one game I could beat as a kid on my NES. We also had ghost and goblins and ninja gaiden….those ones haunt my dreams still.
Haha this stuff really is great, you really found a unique niche and YT loves you for it!
Amazing video. Amazing game. Thank you!
This game was a mystery to me as a kid. You just demistified it for me haha. Didn't even realize this was an rpg. Love this channel! 👍
One of the best NES games, hands down...
Thanks for the video, bah I have been playing this game so badly and not knowing what to do. This video clears up everything for me! Thank you,
come for the dog - stay for the deep insight into beating nostalgic gems.
Great Tricks! I Grind my EXP from the first robot at Lapis area the one near the door (get in and out for respawn) after getting the grappling hook.
Great video. I appreciate the work you put into this. It really help me with my playthrough.

Thanks fender! I'm learning a lot fast!
Wizards & Warriors; Solomon's Key; ....keep it going man!

I own the PS2 Rygar. I loved that yoi can chose from 3 different disc armors. My favorite is the water disc armor.

25:45 omg I completely forgot about this level. We used to call it the meow mix level.
I found your Zelda video randomly and was going to comment that you should do Rygar lol. Such a tough game!
Yes! Thanks dude. I love that you are doing all my favorite NES titles. And even on the games I knew inside and out you you manage to teach me new tricks.
Thanks, Colin!
