Check out this video on the most commonly asked jobs about WORKING TWO JOBS: • Working two remote job...
Check out this video on how I GOT CAUGHT working two jobs: • I got caught working 2...
And this one on the productivity tricks I used working TWO JOBS: • I'm busy ALL DAY (but ...
When the pandemic hit everyone was forced to work from home. I set up my home office and got to work. I work as a User Experience (UX) designer at a tech company.
When you work from home you realize that you have a lot more time to get your work done. You're not being distracted by people in the office trying to talk to you or long lunches with co-workers or time spent commuting.
I used my extra time to do freelance and contractor work. I realized that instead of the inconsistent work and downtime between projects I could get another full time remote job and double my income. For jobs like UX, product management and web development (coding, engineering), the job depends on the work, not on meetings or anything else. If I could get my work done then both companies would be happy and I could make a lot more money.
Well I pulled it off and worked two jobs for 8 months. I was able to pay off debt, pay off both of our cars, dabble in crypto and NFTs and put some money away.
It wasn't until after my two jobs experience that I realized there is an entire online community doing this. It's called Overemployed. They're on Reddit: / overemployed
If you have questions about working two remote jobs they have some great resources. There is also a discord group where you can chat with people that are currently doing it.
loved your video. i got two offers and i was told all of these negative things but my gut is telling me everything is going to be fine and you’ve just confirmed that for me. thank you.❤️ i’m in tech as well.
Awesome, glad I could help. Apparently there is a Reddit group and discord called Over Employed for people working two remote jobs. Might be worth checking out.
Same right now...i get a cool job for a company in Canada and working from Argentina. I need the money for an eye operation (that i have to borrow 5k usd)...i start this monday and get a cool offer for an UK company for a movie software very awesome that i like but it seem more risky.....some friends tell me to take both jobs at leat for 3 to 6 month, i have some fears because contract let me work for different companies, but I hope as I see this video: everything going to be fine.
Money is great, but the physical and mental workload is super tough to manage. Kudos for making it 8 months.
Completely agree. It's a lot to handle.
Is it possible to get a job in proxify without a degree?
I don't know if you worked two jobs when we worked together, but I had no idea! you were always quick to get me designs when I needed. Bravo!!
That’s wild, I’ve been doing that for 6 months as an analyst and interface tester. It’s been great money and a fun experience, work wise it’s not too bad just meetings need to be juggled accordingly.
That's awesome glad you're enjoying it. Yeah meetings seem to be the biggest issue.
Are you an experienced tester or an entry level position?
@@5260lalaw I’ve attained some experience but I wasn’t prior to this gig, my experience was in HL7 implementations.
What about background check?v
@@rishangprashnani4386 They conducted one but I think it was for criminal history only, not sure to be honest
I'm in the process of making this happen. I have a final interview next week, but I also had a panic attack last night thinking about juggling everything. This video gave me hope.
It'll be a challenge but it's totally possible. Good luck!
@@JakeFerrin Thanks so much! I already have a few part-time gigs and I've always had multiple jobs since I was 14 (ha!), so I'm thinking it will be similar to that. I think I was more scared of getting found out! But hey, companies should just pay enough for us to not have to think about this, right?! Thanks for the Inspo!
@@missmoe427 hey how’s it going 4 weeks later? Love hearing success stories!
@@Mclovinsit omg! Thanks for checking in! I actually decided to quit my current position and just take the new one that I was offered! I realized I just needed to shed some dead weight and start my life anew!
Are you considering 2 remote positions idea?
@@missmoe427 definitely considering it, glad to hear it worked out in a good way though. Starting a better job is still a big positive! My current data analyst job is pretty slow so I’ve been looking into it. Could I ask how many years of experience you had before thinking about being over employed? Im fresh out of college but got lucky on my job being so slow haha.
I made a video answering some questions about the two job thing. Cheers 🍻 ruclips.net/video/rynO-LpYvyI/видео.html
This guy has 2 I can’t even find 1 lol. Good job man, keep it up!!
Thanks for your insight! I've been contemplating getting a part-time job in addition to a full-time remote job. Now, i'm thinking.. what about two full-time remote jobs? With time management and a clear goal in mind, I think its totally worth it and do-able!
It’s definitely do-able!
I really needed to see this. I've been looking for a second remote job, but I think all the negative sentiments I've been hearing definitely held me back from pursuing it whole-heartedly. This video convinced me that I need to take the plunge and do what's best for me.
I have just had a interview today for my second job and got it so now I’m working my two I’m excited fr
Great video. I also found this out years ago when I wanted to start trading and go to school while working full-time. I sort of eased into it. However, these days I work full-time as a Software Engineer, I am taking 4 CS classes at a University and run a successful small hedge fund. I also exercise and eat healthy everyday, get plenty of sleep. With all that said, I am super efficient with my time and sometimes downright rude to people who want to waste it. You would think there is no way I could do this but...I just got a promotion at my job with a bonus, I currently have a 4.0 and about to graduate from school and my hedge fund made 172% profit last year. I totally agree that Parkinson's law is a thing!
Yeah no offense but that seems a bit toooo good 😑
@Racmag I'm into CS as well (currently in university), but I ended up doing a Finance Internship for a bank's investment firm. I'm still pursuing CS, because I value it, but I am seriously considering leveraging some potential connections to start one someday. Do you have any advice in regards to that business?
@@Izaz-ke7dt You don't need to work at an investment firm to start a business. The reason is because (assuming you are even make it to the head investment side). They all use commercial strategies that won't work on the retail side. I'd advise you to start paper trading and get profitable (that takes many years and lots of learning)
wtf
That's amazing and inspiring! Helps put things in perspective when I'm procrastinating haha.
So I did this for a year as an IT product manager. It kind of happen the same I applied for a job happen to get it but I liked my other job but I said I would try it out etc my salary was around 279,00 with both jobs and I did it a little over year onlybreason I stopped was cause one job wanted to go to a hybrid schedule. I became debt free , brought a house etc I just wish I bulked up more in my 401 k n savings I recommend it but only for contract jobs
Which companies im curious?
I just received a second offer which puts me well over 100k. I asked myself the same question, “why quit”? It’s all about negotiating the right salary, with no time constraints. It’s better to have assignment-based salary positions than logged time hours. It’s a great hustle but if not done right you could burn out. Good stuff though!!
assignment based is key!!
I am here for this!!! I’m in the accounting field. I have a full time contract and part time job and my own clients. It’s been a lot. I always feel like I’m behind yet most people are satisfied with my work. I need a break though lol and to re-think this. I am about to binge watch all your videos!! I agree with the “hard stop” thing, this situation really built my confidence to speak up because… I had to lol
I feel you on the need for a break. It’s a lot. There has got to be better ways to make money haha
Is your full time job in Public accounting?
Same here so I feel you.
I’m an accountant as well. Tip: A virtual assistant (w/ an accounting background) is a lifesaver for those mundane monthly tasks.
Cool! I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I also have two remote jobs. I am in the beginning journey. Thank you for your insight.
such an interesting story. And so cool that tech is a field where you have enough time with your job to work two jobs
Love love love. Keep it coming man. Don’t slow down now that you’ve quit one of your tech jobs.
Thanks Jake for your insight.
1. On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 no stress, 10 extreme stress), what would you rate your stress level when doing these 2 jobs?
2. Burnout level on scale 1-10?
3. How many hours a night were you able to get on average?
Stress level between 6 and 10. Design work goes in waves so the stress level depended on how busy I was. Burnout was about the same. I got plenty of sleep, never needed to stay up super late to work, but I did have to work after from like 7:00-11:00 some nights when I would rather be with my family.
@@JakeFerrin damn, I'm regularly up until 2am working on a mixture of my own business and my primary job (which pulls in less than $200k, and I "only" have the one job). For the past 20+ years, basically since high school, I've gotten about 4-5 hours of sleep per night, never much more than that, usually less.
I’ve been doing the same for the past 3 months. Has been working out really well… except it’s hard to manage conflicting meeting times between 2 different employers that are not aware of each other… and make excuses why I need to push back or move meeting times.
That is honestly the worst part. Your WiFi can only go down so many times lol. Best of luck to you my guy. Enjoy the extra income.
@@JakeFerrinI been doing it for 8 months now…. Luckily, both my jobs don’t require too many meetings and one is East cost and the other west cost …. Working out great so far 😂
@@Yui789esss😂that’s wild. this Gave me an idea lol
You make your own life. No one will help you unless you take you own calculated risks. Great video
I’m looking to do this. I am working completely remote now and I am in the process of getting another one. I’m nervous. But I know I can do this. It would be so wonderful for my family.
This was awesome thank you! Especially the last few minutes. We are definitely capable. And our fate is in our own hands!
I really relate to the sentiment of wanting to build up enough savings to be able to work on other projects / businesses full time. Really resonated with me. I feel the same way and have also been OE for quite some time in order to achieve this aim.
You're basement looks really nice and neat! It must be great to get some work done there. Great video!
This is awesome! So happy for you! I'm so so so tempted to follow your lead...
It’s not easy but the double paycheck is pretty nice!
I start my 2nd remote job in a few weeks
this is a great video and the same efficient working mentality can be applied towards a man wanting to leave work early, consistently, to spend more time with family, and still get the job done that he is paid to do.
I have two questions:
- What about meetings? Were there ever conflicts between the two jobs?
- Did you tell the new employer that you were going to quit the other?
Meetings are a struggle. I talk about it in my Q&A video on two jobs (linked below). I had conflicting meetings and tried to attend both with my video off and it was a nightmare. I started bailing/rescheduling if I had conflicting meetings. I never told them outright that I was going to quit. They just assumed I would since that's what everyone does lol ruclips.net/video/rynO-LpYvyI/видео.html&lc=Ugw8m8SAmFrJYRiRdkR4AaABAg
two different airpods one connected to your phone the other to your laptop. Easy… Just manage mute and unmute ontime and correctly.
@@azzangoeting7691 not a bad idea. The headphones could be a game changer because theres no risk of one meeting hearing the other.
@@azzangoeting7691 I did something like that once when I was working full time and I was also taking a full-time bootcamp. I had conflicting meetings where I had to actively share and talk. Two computers, 1 air pod in my ear, and the other was on speaker low volume. I had to manage mute, volume, and camera throughout the meetings. It was stressful, but doable. But I wouldn't recommend it for strategic planning meetings, only like status report type meetings.
@@KonniWilson Valid point yea the approach I shared only works for standup type of meetings not for meetings that you need to lead or where an involved conversation is required, for those I would really try to hold those type of meetings on a dedicated time slot so that you can give it your full focus.
Thank you so much for this video. I got an offer from two tech companies that are remote. I’m scared but excited lol
So cool! It's stressful but whats the worst that could happen haha Good luck!
Take both, be efficient, use sundays if needed or early mornings.
Enjoyed this video. You gave me hope 😊. Glad I found your channel.
Just found your videos. Wanted to say that you are a great story teller!
Hey James. I appreciate it!
I'm thinking of getting a second job. I already have a full time job as a fraud analyst and am thinking of becoming a virtual assistant since I'm working at home.
Super helpful. I’m a senior level Product designer and have been seriously thinking about doing this.
Question... Whats the average salary for senior designer in the US?
Whats the average salary for senior designers that work remotely?
@@Juansebastian-dh1ez Totally depends on your location. Some remote employers pay the same regardless of location and base it solely on experience and skill, others pay you more or less depending on location. I'd say seniors make an average of between $120-160k.
process should be as joyful as the reward
Great video Jake.. just subscribed
I thought the same thing as you. And loved the Lotr Bilbo Baggins reference.
Just discovered your channel and I absolutely love it! Keep up the good work 😊
Change thumbnail to “highest paid product designer in world” and this video will fly
so at the end you stayed with your old job or new job?
Stayed with the old job
@@JakeFerrin I see, did the old job gave you some good raise to keep you? Or they already paid you pretty well?
@@ALPHAGENXCORP no I didn't get a raise. The old job even paid less than the new one. I kept the old one because it was so easy and allowed me to work on more stuff on the side like the RUclips channel.
@@JakeFerrin thanks mate. Take care!
My hubby does the same! I do t mind it because it's remote and I am too!
Can you make a video explaining the pathways to becoming a product designer? Is an industrial design degree alright?
Industrial design might help to start understanding design but it's less direct. The most direct degree for UX is a human computer interaction degree (HCI). Graphic design would help too. I never got a degree though. Getting a design job is all about your work you can show. I made this video on how to get into UX: ruclips.net/video/NQSgmi0CH6M/видео.html
Jake- Question: How did you fill out the tax form when you have a two jobs? I believe W4 form specifically asks for if you have a second job, right? So employer wouldn’t know?
Do it while you're young I don't blame you just make sure to either save or invest the money
Can you make a part 2 and discuss how you could balance the two without interfering like meeting times etc
Love your video. Thanks for sharing
The only question I have that I would like answered is your schedule. I don’t mind that you did that, but what was your scheduling and hours.
Such a good video!!
Love this video!
🙂
I make 350k between my two remote Director level tech jobs. That is before bonuses which put me more in the 400k range. It is extremely stressful but I am hoping to only do this for 6 months to a year.
I’m about to work two full time jobs. How does the benefits portion work. If you’re enrolled in health dental and vision in one job can’t you not have that at both. What did you do?
@@PRob25 pretty simple. You do not enroll in the second companies health insurance.
Thank you so much. This gives so much encouragement to multitask and do more than 1 job.
could you do a video on how to not get caught from either companies doing 2 jobs?
Amazing content again thank you for sharing
I’m in tech as well with one job. From Utah as well!! Haha was wondering if it was doable my job is part time and this kind of confirmed it
Awesome man! Fellow Utah guy. Yeah it's definitely possible.
It's so hard to do this in the UK because of the PAYE tax system your employer is aware of your other income streams in order to assign your tax bracket.
You are correct but only the payroll see this and surely they are not able to discuss with others on your income as that would be illegal. I have had simultaneous 2 jobs in UK without any problem, just make sure there’s nothing in your contract not allowing it.
@@reacekaines1947 Thank you

Hi Jake, I'm starting this remote employment journey right now. I'm Brazilian and I'm planning to leave the country due to the current conditions. What advice could you give me to get my first job in a company in the United States or another European country?
I make $50k or less. Damn I need a tech job. Should donebit earlier. I have 7 years of computer science classes from 1997-2006.
I used to work 85 hours a week is seriously dangerous and high end kitchens (simultaneously). This ain't jack. I could easily do 120 hours and wish I had rhat much work. Even 60 would be better. I am stuck and looking

Sounds like tough work... Keep searching, there are better options out there.
What if the new employer wants to do a reference check with your current employer will that blow your cover ?
Once your other job found out about your other role how did you move forward with management? Did you ever discuss it with them/ do you have any tips and tricks about communicating with your leaders about your other job?
I am currently working 4 remote jobs and I told the managers in two of them (where I had the trust). I simply came up to them and said "look, I have another offer that I really want to take and I also dont want to leave working for you". If they get the feeling that you will still treat them as your main job and have enough trust that you submit your work on time then it is great. It is actually even more than that.....not having to lie why you cannot make it to the meeting or just simply not be stressed about them finding out is great.
You must be crazy busy with 4 jobs... Not having to hide anything would have taken away a lot of the stress. That's definitely the way to go.
@@JakeFerrin Well I made an agreement with myself that I will be done with all the work by 4 pm every day. That leaves you with prioritizing and managing to do every job for 2 hours a day. However, I often take the easiest tasks and finish them over weekends just cause I know it will take away lot of stress from regular days.
This is only possible when you observe your contracts and actually fire employers/clients who want way too much work and replace them with ones which are slow paced. I found that huge corporates usually are more slow paced.
@Wencer Calzado I have a full time job and I am looking for a side job in UI/UX Design. Any tips? Im also in Dominican Republic.

How do you manage the 2nd, 3rd, 4th job calling your current job for employment verification without raising suspicion?
Thanks for the story!
Hi, I like your video and your experience of working two jobs simultaneously. How do you find a job? Do you feel finding a job is competitive?
Great video
What products were you designing? I was a product owner/manger in the LA area making $110k/yr from 2016-2019 (never got a raise) for a major company. Until this week, since then have been making $175k/yr as a software consultant (finally got a raise this week, putting me at $192k), and I'm in my late 30s.
I finished two highly technical bachelor degrees in parallel, from two different schools, in two different fields, all while maintaining a full-time career managing multi-million dollar projects for the government. Then immediately went into completing an M.S. in Engineering (which I started the same time I relocated and started a completely new career in a completely different industry; the product owner role I mentioned earlier). Now, I owe $88k in student loans, which was AFTER I ran out of GI Bill and got military discounts on tuition. I guess I should've forgone finishing those degrees and just got another job (well, technically I also had another job, as I was teaching engineering and emergency medicine at the collegiate level.) I guess I'm just working for the wrong organizations or something...🤷♂
Impressive work ethic. Great job man!
Experience > education once you have bachelor's
how do you deal with meetings? two jobs require a ton of meetings.
It’s a struggle. Definitely the hardest part for me. The best case scenario would be that both companies know you work two jobs and that you have to miss meeting occasionally for the other company.
This is the biggest challenge in my view, especially if you’re a project manager. I imagine coders and similar types of roles can get away with it more easily.
Hey Jake, love the last bit of the video with Arnold. That being said, I’m going to go ahead and take a risk myself and ask if I could hop on a call/make an interview video with you? (Only if you have time in between your two jobs and RUclips of course haha)

Hi Jake. Thanks for sharing your history in a super honest way. I have one question, how did you manage the background check for your second job? Did you tell your second job company to not contact your current company back then?
What tools do you use when working multiple jobs. For example, if you have multiple emails and slacks channels, clickups accpunts ext ..

I don’t know about the coursera courses. They’re probably a good place to start. Google has a free UX certification you can earn as well that would help you get started. Good luck!
