    As a former teacher, (22/23 school year being my last), I can say that the schools are so invested in technology because that’s what their funding approves them for. The curriculum for each state varies and we are constantly having meetings and PD dedicated to ensuring we are teaching the curriculum on par with what the state mandates. You are absolutely correct in saying that not all students learn this way and not all students will thrive and understand in a technology based classroom. Unfortunately, with public schools, one on one time is very limited and even if you have a district that offers a one on one without the student having an IEP or 504 plan, they will need to use their laptop/tablet to complete their work. Essentially, we teach on smart boards, which mirrors the screen of their iPad/laptops. So even as educators we have to use technology to teach and the students have to use it to learn. Unfortunately, tangible items like books and worksheets are becoming obsolete.

      This. I'm a high school history teacher and we don't have books and I don't lecture. I think it's a holdover from Covid and virtual learning and I really kind of hate it. Our kids have no attention span and if they make it to college are going to have a really hard time.

    I don't understand how school works nowadays either. My daughter's math tutor asked her if she could bring home her test so they can go over what she missed. She told him they aren't allowed, so he reached out to the teacher to see if maybe it could be given to him instead. Nope. No copy can leave the classroom. And it was like pulling teeth for him to get a copy of the syllabus. WTH? It's so frustrating.

    • @sarahhhrae
      @sarahhhrae  7 месяцев назад +6

      Yeah, I just went through this with Jaden's teacher. He isn't allowed to see it and even when he does get to see it (after we email asking for it) it's only for a couple of minutes and he can't bring it home or show me. I'm constantly asking the kids to show me rubrics for their projects, writing assignments, etc and they almost never have one. I have to assume the teachers are doing what they are told to do, but these curriculums definitely have some kids struggling.

    Im a mom of a 9 year old. Who had to make the hard decision this year and had my child held back in the 3rd grade because she had fallen so far behind. We are also in the process of getting her tested and trying to get her an EIP and 504 plan. The school is doing such a great job to get her the help she needs. And I am getting her a private tutor. Sometimes, I feel defeated! But I will do everything in my power to help my child succeed! Having to face the fact that she had to repeat grade was hard on her because she has diagnosed anxiety. But so far the school year has been going great! I can see how confident she is getting in math and her reading. Lets me know it was the best decision I could have made for her! I love her so much!

    Sara, I am so with you on the way schools do learning right now. I wondered lately why my son does not have subject books. I think this is a thing of the past. My son was born with Down Syndrome so learning is difficult, having lessons being done the way they are now a days makes it even more difficult. I am too so very confused. I was not a strong student. I moved to Canada with my family and could not speak a lick of English. That and the fact that teachers did not have time for a class full of children and then a non speaking child really put me behind. I still as an adult feel like I am behind. I was never able to help my children because the way things are taught is just impossible to help. I am so proud of you to go above and beyond to help your two children. Bravo mama.

If we have an issue with a test or grade I make my son go to his teacher and ask if he can do any extra credit work to up his grade or to find out exactly what went wrong so it doesn't occur again. He is now a junior and doing all of his classes online at the college and one at high school and has to really be responsible for getting his stuff done & I think he is doing well so far. Next year it will be all college classes & he will graduate hs with an associates degree. Great program and highly recommend it. We do have to pay for the college books & around $7-$10 per course credit but what a great opportunity. Wish it was available when I was in high school.

    I cant WAIT to decorate fpr Christmas. We've already been looking for items and chose a theme. I'll start probably right before Thanksgiving. I need to find a live tree first 😅 Yes they dont use many books anymore.😢 smh. I used ro live really close to a Fresh Market and the quality and selection were always top-tier.

    We’re going through the same thing. We have no textbooks. I’m thankful she’s doing well because I wouldn’t be able to help her. Our teachers let them do test corrections. I’d email the teacher and ask about study materials or something.. it’s ridiculous.

    Hey Sarah. I'm 35yo Mom from South Africa, and I don't get 90% of the things my kids do in school. If they come back and didn't understand something, I tell them to go back and ask teacher again. I even write it in their homework note books. I can't😂😂😂

    Girl get you some of those freeze dried banana chips from TJ’s they will CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Also an amazing deal for freeze dried fruits as they’re usually super expensive!!

    I have a chest freezer you reach into ... since it was way cheaper. I have my meats separated by beef, chicken, and pork... in reusable grocery bags ... makes it easier to find what I'm looking for . And it's not 52 pick up sticks ...everytime I take something out then lol...

    I feel you with the kids’ homework these days! Ugh, it’s so different than the way I learned and my kids get so annoyed with me when I try to help them!😂🤷🏼‍♀️

    When you went to buy the squishy bike seat a few vlogs back, I saw they had some wider seats. Are those not worth considering?

    I’m trying to get back into reading, but I feel overwhelmed with all the options out there. Have you made a video of your favorite fiction?

    It's crazy my daughter just started middle school (6th grade) and it's been such a struggle! She has adhd so she learns different also which makes it even harder. I literally had to write an email today asking those same questions you are wondering! I'm like what does my child's day look like? How is she learning the things she struggling with? Is she getting extra help?? Etc...My daughter also has an iep and it doesn't seem to be helping right now. This transition to middle school is ROUGH to say the least. What I can say is that Google has been our BFF lately. I just punch in an equation and it tells us the answer and also how we got there.

    I am currently a teacher in Iowa, and it is different than when we went to school, but it's best practice for teachers to review missed problems with students so they know what they did incorrectly and reteach so students understand and can be successful.

    Cannot wait for this partnership!! My daughter is struggling so much right now on top of having ADHD and dyslexia. I have no idea how to help her because I wasn’t taught to do math the ways they are teaching her.
