I love having the privilege of watching Nala and Jay grow into their own kind of humans. It’s weird because I’ve been watching since they were baby babies, but also so cool! I love seen the style evolution Nala is going through!
There are certain flowers and herbs that deter bugs. I just planted flowers but added a mint and basil plant in my flowers to keep the mosquitoes away while sitting on the porch and it gives a nice scent. When I do my garden I always plant marigolds around my garden. It deters animals because they don’t like the smell and it helps with pollination. I read that the oils from basil can kill pest eggs. Just check it out there might be something you can plant to help. Good luck!

I plant basil between my tomato plants and it seems to really help keep the big tomato worms away.
My marigolds usually get mites, not my other plants 😂🫠

Hi Sarah! So sorry to see what happened to your garden! I'd say the Dawn solution is more of a spot treatment not a prevention or full out deterrent. Use diatomaceous earth (food grade) to treat the plants and soil. This will keep critters away and it's safe for the plants. I typically treat my soil with it before planting. It works great for houseplant soil too and kills gnat eggs. Hopefully some of your plants will bounce back. Veggies are pretty forgiving!
Diatomaceous earth is good because it makes the soil too difficult for slugs and worms to crawl through, plus it's basically like a ton of knives to their bodies as they crawl through it.... kinda horrific, but it works...
Didn't think I could love your vlogs any more because your whole vibe makes me want to work harder, but this Vargas-Homesteading era is everything! I'm not sure what's in the water but so many of us are in our home garden, baking, preserving bags ATM. I just got my first red tomato today too!

Husband and I drop our son off at daycare, get a little coffee and bagel on the way back, I set up my work laptop because I work from home, and watch youtube (your vlogs when there's a new upload) and chill for 30 mins before I start my work day!
Girl, I feel your pain with gardening. This is my third year in a house, so third year gardening, and so much is trial and error! I could not keep bugs off of my kale and broccoli last year, so I didn't even bother with them this year. Now I tend to plant flowers, like marigolds and nasturtiums around all parts of my garden. I've heard they will either deter bugs or attract better bugs. No expert, but I definitely have a lot more success with my veggies if I plant flowers around them as well. Good luck and keep it up!
The pans at the thrift shop with the little hollows are for ebelskivers- little pancakes with apple chunks, you fill each hole, then rotate as they cook so you end up with little pancake balls ❤ my Danish grandmother taught me to make them

You are turning into a Homesteader and I love it! I made my first ever batch of refrig pickles on the 4th this past week, and OMG they are soooo good! The longer they sit the better they get! I just looked up the recipes online and found some good ones. I also added some garlic cloves and spicy peppers to a few of the jars and they have a great garlic heat to them! Loved seeing the farmers market, we went last week and that is where I got my pickles, wish they had more options but our harvests up in Michigan haven't been that great due to drought. Those puff pastry rollups looked so good!!! Love seeing your baking evolution! Gives me so much motivation 😊😊

Im starting to understand the gardening thing now! My son brought home potted seeds for mothers day from school and he really really wanted them to grow. Ive been trying to hard to keep them alive (normally awful with plants) and its been growing like crazy! Couple days ago we figured out we are growing green beans! My kiddo is so excited!
You can use the salad spinner to clean fruit too! It works wonders! A salad spinner is a life saver

One of our family's favorite snacks for the summer is cucumbers in vinegar(and water)! They never get to the "pickle" stage!
A good book to buy is an oldie by goodie. It's been reprinted several times. Square Foot Gardening. It tells you what to plants together and how to optimize your space. I just love it.

I am sorry about the plants! I fought bugs all last year and they took out my pumpkin patch. 8 spray works wonders, got it off of Amazon and have used it since.

For the garden check out captain Jack products. Dead bug brew and BT spray are life savers!! I am an avid gardener, we grow on over 3 acres and try to do all natural as much as possible. Captain Jack products have made a huge difference!!
I havent had buttermilk pancakes in a while but i made buttermilk biscuits with gravy the other day. The bagels look so good i might have to try it but i hate to bake in the summer it's to hot..lol Im jealous i havent had empanadas in 30 years my uncle Frankie would make them for us all the time but he passed and his receipt with him ..I had one grasshopper eating my plants and i kicked him out and luckily nothing else has bothered my plants .I picked grape tomato's and jalapenos today and green beans.

There's a printable of the cabbage moth online. Print, cut out, and laminate (or trace and cut out of a white milk jug or yogurt container). I hot glued a few to skewers and hot glued string to some and stuck/hung them in my garden...no more moth/caterpillar larvae issues. Apparently they're territorial and if they think there's already moths there they will leave!
I also read your can sprinkle corn meal in your garden and on the leaves and they will eat it and then it expands in their gut and kills them.

I think they will come back! We sprayed our rose bush with vinegar bc we had a lantern fly infestation and it burned all the leaves and things were looking bleak, but it came back

I have injured my lower back multiple times on the row machine, even with a trainer, so I don't think it's us. A few weeks with a chiropractor took care of it. But it was excruciating! Hope you're feeling better!

Sarah sounds like you need a T.E.N.S unit, you put the electrodes on the sore spots and let it run for an hour and it helps the muscles I use mine religiously its great!!!
If it’s not to late, try to water your plants very deep to wash it all off. The roots could still be fine and they will grow new leaves. The dish soap method does work, just maybe it wasn’t diluted enough. Garden bugs are always gonna be an issue

The beetles have literally overcome our rose garden! We have the beetle bags now and we literally caught hundreds of them! It’s insane!!! Damn the beetles!
Omg I just check my plants test as well and ughhh my garden is infested with those caterpillars as well. It was my first year of growing broccoli as well and I’m 109% sure that’s what attracted the caterpillars.

Sciatica is a beotch. I had a lower back injury and then it turned into sciatica. So a nerve is getting pinched. Mine runs down my butt and my calf. After a month of it not getting better I went to a chiropractor. Between the chiropractor and some added exercises and stretches it is slowly getting better. You may need to see a chiropractor if it doesn't work itself out in a few weeks.
