I bought the Fz10 and the fz09 for my wife I considered the bmw but having had a Yamaha cruiser for 4 years with no issues made my decision to remain loyal easier. Love both bikes and don't feel like I miss any performance or features on either.
Always was wondering what the FZ-10 would be like. Oh, and I like your non professional, every day, average rider reviews :) I feel like these types of reviews are more helpful to the people that just want to hear how the bike is to ride, not just listing all the specs. We can read those online or at the dealer.
Have the MT-10 I have been looking at reviews around these two bikes. I found the MT-10 much better down low after a ECU Flash and can. I gained 10 h/p in between 4500rpm and 7500rpm. About the same in torque by doing the Woolich race tune. B mode is very sensitive on them. I enjoyed so thanks.
+1 I got my ECU flashed at 2wheeldynoworks (highly recommended) and the power is instant down low. Also smooth out the snappiness in B which was great to see. Now I ride in B mode and traction control 1 all the time
My first bike staring out was a 2003 FZ1. I went through a street triple and a klx400. Now I have a 2018 S1000r. It's a great bike but I would probably like an MT-10 as well.
Don't be so self-conscious. You did a great job providing useful info for the average rider. Truth be told, this will likely be my next motorcycle, so I appreciate the vid. Cheers!
I love my FZ10. No regrets. I never see another bike that makes me wonder if I made the wrong choice. Edit: And I'm not too sure why he felt the throttle was snatchy. This is the first bike I've ever owned, and as a new rider I found it very tractable. I kept it in standard for the first 3k miles, at which point it just felt squishy. A is perfect for me. B is snatchy, and I imagine designed for the track. Makes no sense on the road. B mode = instantly speeding.
have had both, would definitely reccomend the 1kr if you have the scratch. s1k is just buckets smoother. only complaint I have about the Beemer is if you have lazy body position above 100 it can get a little shakey. both great bikes.
Tested both quite extensively before choosing the BMW. The MT is more upright, more agile, better sounding, no vibration at all and come with better headlights. picked up the BMW because its better to ride on track, has cruise control and heated grips so I can ride more.
Hi CNcycle, thanks for going to so much effort producing this vid. Well done. I noticed you were working hard on the twisties as your breathing increased on the MT10. Can I offer a small gentle idea. When you go through the corners I did notice you tend to sway left and right after the apex to get back to the centre of the lane. Can I suggest moving your body across the seat and kissing the inside mirror more as you use the outside of the lane on the approach and exit while hugging the corner at the apex? It gives you much more rhythm and irons out the corners considerably. Starting wide helps you see thru the corner for longer and then apex late with a good lean in, then leave the corner wide again but don’t bring your weight back if the corner turns in the same direction as the last corner. Stay with your body weight out. It will make it much smoother and easier. If the road at the furthest most visible part is lifting it’s generally opening out and you can accelerate but if it’s visually dropping into the terrain it is a closing corner and you’ll need to trail break a little to gently wash speed off for the tightening corner. Sorry to tell you how to suck eggs dear bud but it may help a little. Good luck and loved your vid. Thanks.
The cross-plane or cross-plane is a crankshaft design for piston engines with a 90° angle (phase in crank rotation) between the crank throws. The cross-plane crankshaft is the most popular configuration used in V8 road cars.
put it in b mode the throttle isnt snachy its what you call power man up use its power, turn down traction control. if you think theres no torqe in it why does the front wheel lift in 3rd and 4th gear.
Awesome video brother... I test ride the both of them but bought a 2017 S1000R in March. For me that come out on top by a lot...ive had s great year if fun on it. Hope you have had a great year too. Oh and I've hit ur sub button man 👊👊
I don't know why guys have to stick fz in "A" mode, all the modes deliver 100% power. In fact most guys that own them ride "standard" or "2" mode because fueling is much better. Of course a competent flash smooths out the fueling massively.
B standard is the smoothest on FZ10 I really like mine from sport riding, commuting, touring and it does everything well. The cons if any the fuel mileage is not so good and it could be smoother but I came from a Honda CBR1000RR which was so smooth. It has tons of accessories and goodies you can add I think you get more out the motorcycle instead of being so focused on one thing.
Nice vid, how is the seat height to pegs feel, are you cramped? I got a chance to demo ride the bmw s1000r a couple of weeks ago, I think it is a phenomenal bike, torque on any gear at any speed :) felt light to handle, and turn. Even great on the highway highway
The seating position on the Yamaha is definitely more relaxed with a greater seat to peg distance. Of the super nakeds I believe the S1KR has the most aggressive positioning. It's ironic because the RR has the most relaxed of the super sport bikes. A taller rider (which I am) could feel cramped on the BMW.
I find it funny when people complain about "bad brakes" on the MT10. You people obviously have never ridden a cruiser :D I did a test ride on the MT10 this May and my first impression was that the brakes were very solid.
Dang. If the SDR is that much faster I️ can’t wait to trade up from my fz10. The snatchy throttle is rough for sure. Even after I️ put in the PC5 and map. Still love it tho. 🤙🏻
Awesome roads! And all those numbers mean very little compared to how a bike feels so great real world stuff! Shame about the snatchy throttling. I'm with you on the naked bike thing mate. Love a me nice 'ugly' bike! Might be worth a comparo with my 11yr old FZ1 to see how much, if anything, they've improved.
The mt detonates out of bends ,it has masses of low to mid range torque if you use it right ,I have a mate owned the s1000r ,rode mine and my mates mt10 and now owns an mt10 .its a hooligan of a bike, but gives you a never ending smile on your face .
Hello thank you for the amazing video! Defianitly subscribed. So I have a question I am 26 years old and just finished saving money for the past 4 years to buy the 2018 yamaha MT 10. My question is I have never ridden a bike and will attend a motorcycle riding class in a few weeks then on buying the MT10 by the beginning of June so my question is do you think it would be a first bike for a first time rider? Thank you and thanks again for the video!
Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel. I hope you enjoy. As I mention in the video, I'm by no means an expert rider or reviewer so keep that in mind. If you've never ridden before, I'd probably recommend going smaller. An MT-07 would be a good start. You can get a used one for very cheap and it's still loads of fun. Your chances of crashing or dropping the bike in the first year are very high (not to mention insurance rates), so you might as well put that on a smaller, cheaper bike. Ride that for a year or two and then trade up to the MT-10
CNCycle damn you just broke my heart that is my dream bike and I dont want to have to buy a 300 or 600 then put it up for sale and then invest in a MT10 but again I have no riding experience so I cant really say anything. I dont want to get it for race or track days It has just been a dream bike and it's unfortunate it's a 1000 but I will take your word Sir thank you keep up the great videos!
Please start on a smaller bike, I have the MT-10 as it was my dream bike but I started on a 125cc on our farm when I was growing up, I didn’t ride on the road but 20 years later I bought my first road bike which was a KLR650 enduro with semi-road tyres. I dropped it and slid off it in a roundabout but got back up, bent it back into shape with a hammer and kept riding. Sold it for the same price I bought it. Then an MT-09 (FZ-09 in the States). It was awesome fun but needed a tourer so went MT-10 when I could manage it. It’s my dream bike and I adore it but DO NOT BUY IT FOR YOUR FIRST BIKE. It’s too much power and you can’t learn to throw your body around to get the most out of it like you can a small bike. Too early and it will rob you of confidence. Later, you can buy it when you’re ready and will love it. Please buy an MT-03 or MT-07 and work up. Please... you will love a small bike you can throw around and laugh on for the first 3 years. Learn to trust the tyres and brakes on a cheaper bike that you can drop and not worry too much about, just pick it up again. Test ride them for at least an hour each.
The intro was amateur and actually made me laugh and I was looking for a “professional” one but this was probably an honest review rather than some overly exited one
Great video CNCycle. While this is may be an old youtube review, for mine, the BMWs1000r is a much better bike all around. As you say it all comes down to subjectivity & what moves your soul.
Dude. Maccas does not make good coffee. Come to Australia. Best coffee on the planet. Love the hills in Glendora. Rode them 30 years ago and would do them again in a heartbeat.
Put over 50,000 miles on the Ducati. It's fast and comfortable but I really wasn't wowed by the build quality. Wind protection is crap (I'm 6'1"), and it has the worst transmission I've ever shifted. The V-twin engine is torquey but has an overall agricultural feel to it. I bought a 2016 R1 last year for track use and fell in love with the crossplane engine...it has a unique sound, combining the exhaust note of a triple and a V4 with the overall smoothness of a good I4. For street use it's a torture rack. The FZ/MT-10 retains the character but is much more practical for real-world everyday riding (commuting, weekend getaways, etc.). The fact that it love to pick the front wheel off the ground is just icing on the cake. Now, if only Yamaha USA would get their act together and get that SP model over here to the States...
There is only one dealer in Johannesburg. No Dealer competition at all. Servicing is far away from the door step. It never was that way but it all changed. One man runs the show, a monopoly if you like. To me its not good. I want to visit my dealer , become friends but like this we are just numbers.....
I love both of these bikes but I just could not live with that brake fluid cylinder wobbling in my face on the BMW. This is the only reason I would not buy one atm. May seem petty but it does my head in and is very distracting.

+Boris on Bikes thanks Boris!
After falling in love with my FZ1 the FZ10 will be my next bike. 😁
+MrsArmedLegally good choice.
I use to have a FZ1 but now MT 10 and wow
Have the MT-10 I have been looking at reviews around these two bikes. I found the MT-10 much better down low after a ECU Flash and can. I gained 10 h/p in between 4500rpm and 7500rpm. About the same in torque by doing the Woolich race tune. B mode is very sensitive on them. I enjoyed so thanks.

Tim Kreitz Adventures the FZ10 is definitely my next bike. 😁😁
=0)
+Tim Kreitz Adventures thank Timmy!
You betcha. =-)

Big bang have better traction so it can wheele in wet better and safer🤘
A fair assessment. As you said, all the bikes are so good these days, just go for the one that suits you best :)
Yes sir!

+Chris MotorLife thanks again man. The S1000R is a fantastic choice.

If they make this in a white/black color scheme with a color dash......SOLD!
+Byrds1967 they do have a color one now.
The R1 has a color display. I'm hoping in the future they also put it on the FZ 10. But as of right now they don't have a color display.
the SP version has a colored dash and ohlins suspension
I see the SP available on the MT in Europe......do they have an SP available for the FZ in America?
Not yet.
I'm another one not really into the transformer thing. Respect to Yamaha for their bold approach tho
+Jay B I love it but I understand why it’s not for everyone.
CNCycle I do like the bike, just not it's face.. 😉
Thanks for the opinion. I'm having a hard time deciding between the S1000R and the MT10. This is a good video, but hasn't helped, lol.
I'll make it easy, if you have the money. get the S1000R.
But is it as hoonable? Wheelies to forget your feelies.
The fz10 is definitely more wheelie. But the s1k is better in all other ways.
B standard is the smoothest on FZ10 I really like mine from sport riding, commuting, touring and it does everything well. Man, are you Devon Stack? Your voice timber is just like his! Even the intonation!
No sir! Don’t even know who that is.
I find it funny when people complain about "bad brakes" on the MT10. You people obviously have never ridden a cruiser :D I did a test ride on the MT10 this May and my first impression was that the brakes were very solid.
Yes, you get spoiled when you’re not a cruise guy.
My type of video, well put together on fantastic roads.
David Pattinson thank you sir!
When you never made any money on RUclips, you don’t care about Adpocolypse.
Did you completely skip B mode on purpose?
Great review, even though it didn’t feature “whiz-bang jisery”! You are spot on. Perspective on what makes a great bike is completely subjective.
+Matt Mannette thank you sir! Appreciate you watching.
I had the same comment - no low end balls. Got back on my SDR and almost shot off the back 😂
+snowcat you said balls.
LOL!
He wasn’t even in B BEAST mode!!!
you got twist throttle bit more and be in the right mode as some modes are a bit slow sdr whats that
Dang. If the SDR is that much faster I️ can’t wait to trade up from my fz10. The snatchy throttle is rough for sure. Even after I️ put in the PC5 and map. Still love it tho. 🤙🏻
So did you get it out on a straighter road and open it up? How is the transmission and the vibrations? Was it fun to ride?
I did. The BMW is definitely quicker. For transmission, the BMW probably is also smoother and easier. For fun factor, its probably a tie.
For someone 6‘4 which one would be more comfortable? I sat on an s1000r today but never a mt10.
I'm 6'2 and the Yamaha has a more overall comfortable riding position. Seat to pegs is further that the BMA
im with you all the new naked bikes are great but im 6.3 and the fz10 fit me the best
I'm also 6'3 and the FZ definately is the most space.
David Smith this makes me feel more confident with leaning towards the 10 as im 6'4" and was cautious with making a solid decision
That would be a great comparison!
BMW beats it on looks, power. Quality, and riding dynamics!
yes yes but price?
Looks? I gotta disagree there. Both great bikes though.
2nd gear the fz 10 will do a back flip out of the turns.. to say it has less go than the BMW while you're crawling along isn't a good comparison 🤷♀️
Thanks for commenting. I didn’t have enough of a straight to really open it up. It’s also a statistical fact that it has “less go” than the BMW.
The mt detonates out of bends ,it has masses of low to mid range torque if you use it right ,I have a mate owned the s1000r ,rode mine and my mates mt10 and now owns an mt10 .its a hooligan of a bike, but gives you a never ending smile on your face .

@9:53 "pronvidence"
Liked. . Animals well represented
I thumbs down but then I gave it a shot , ....this isn’t a bad review . Nice job 👍🏼
The intro was amateur and actually made me laugh and I was looking for a “professional” one but this was probably an honest review rather than some overly exited one
Glad you changed your mind. I say in the introduction that I am a amateur.
I’m 5”4 do you think this bike is to tall for me ?
Yes, it would be tough.
Great video CNCycle. While this is may be an old youtube review, for mine, the BMWs1000r is a much better bike all around. As you say it all comes down to subjectivity & what moves your soul.
Thanks for watching. You’re right!
Throttle ratio is what you mean … Great video CNcycle
Thank you!
Dude. Maccas does not make good coffee. Come to Australia. Best coffee on the planet. Love the hills in Glendora. Rode them 30 years ago and would do them again in a heartbeat.
Nice! You should make your way back.
1:38 bahaha! I fully intend to replace my 2013 MTS1200 with the Yamaha this summer. Great minds think alike!
I'm curious as to why you made that decision. Do tell.
Put over 50,000 miles on the Ducati. It's fast and comfortable but I really wasn't wowed by the build quality. Wind protection is crap (I'm 6'1"), and it has the worst transmission I've ever shifted. Great review, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Honestly not only because of the money but I just wouldn’t buy a bmw or any of those hyped up brands
Good review. Honest. No BS
Philip Brumby thank you sir. Maybe a little BS. 😂
The local Ducati dealer? Do you have the same problems we have here in SA....seems so
What problems are you having?
There is only one dealer in Johannesburg. No Dealer competition at all. Servicing is far away from the door step. It never was that way but it all changed. One man runs the show, a monopoly if you like. To me its not good. I want to visit my dealer , become friends but like this we are just numbers.....
I hope you try B mode! OR Beast mode as we know it. I just sold my FZ10 and seriously miss it but like the review, hoping u go to B mode
I will! Thanks for watching.
@@CNCycle B mode is certainly more responsive then A mode...as stated above, it's the "Beast mode" and power is fully unlocked :-)
great review bud..im not a big fan of the FZS...i like yours and the tuono
+CM MOTO I love all the nakeds.
What is the reason FZ In US and MT in Euro?
They’ve changed it in 2018. It’s MT in that states now as well.
I have the SP version, the brakes are fine.
I don't know why they won't bring that version to the US.
great comparisson! cheers
Okay I cannot take your opinion seriously after I heard at 10 s into the video you said: McDonalds makes a good coffee. Done. Bye
Fair enough :)
Grew up on that road.....Cheers
It's a great road.
Can you elaborate on your iPhone mount? Or even a review. Ride on.
It’s the quad lock. Not cheap but it’s great.
Can you do another review on a open road and be on B mode!
Sure, next time I'm able to ride the bike.
CNCycle cool man thank you I have a 2016 FZ09 right now but want to upgrade to a FZ10 lol
I love both of these bikes but I just could not live with that brake fluid cylinder wobbling in my face on the BMW. This is the only reason I would not buy one atm. May seem petty but it does my head in and is very distracting.
I never thought of that. It doesn’t bother me. You could always cover it. Thanks for watching.
Name of the first song use in intro?
Can’t remember. Something from the RUclips library.
yeah.. still dont know what to buy :P
Doubledeepfried either is a great choice
ebc hh pads sort brakes out change power mode and its a lot faster uk bike mt10 are 160bhp herd in some places they restriked power
Um....
Put it in B mode. Not A mode. Come on man.
+Zac Slaman I did them all. B was too snatchy in the curves.
CNCycle it’s all preference I guess.
Cross plane = different firing order :( Lots of hype for simple shit
Good to know.
lol different firing order isnt simple shit
Litttttttle
