    After driving an MT-10 I can safely say there's no need for the front wheel outside of parking. Completely superfluous.

    The MT10 is a great bike but she isn't a great city commuter or pillion machine (Those rear footpegs are mega high). The fuel consumption is probably the most inconvenient, annoying part of owning one. Once the engine has some miles on it does improve a bit. Talking of miles, I've done nearly 10,000 on the stock seat, I like it and find it comfortable.
    For all it's faults I love riding this bike more than any other; two years in and no plans to change.

    Ah, the infamous Yami-rattle. The R6 was the same way. except it was a noisy clutch basket. My FZ1 had a noisy cam chain tensioner too. Most yamahas are a little noisy on the engine

    Just bought my 2018 Yamaha MT10 after saving up for a bike for 6 years. I know it is not a begginer bike but I have respected it from the moment I drove it off the dealership and have been in love with the bike ever since!!!

  • @979259
    @979259 6 лет назад +1

    Graves EVR is the best cat delete imo. The valve is huge in keeping the volume down even when the muffler is gone. It gets loud when the valve opens (around 6k with aggressive throttling) but you can cruise in 6th on the highway at reasonable speeds without any drone. Con is that it's about as expensive as it gets.

      A bike at 50 kph will burn more fuel in 1st than it will in 2nd. 3rd would probably be most economical at that speed.

    • @filipecarvalho8044
      @filipecarvalho8044 6 лет назад +39

      KneeGrinder 97 lower gear - higher rpms - higher engine effort - more gas usage - lower fuel economy.

      As an owner of an MT10SP - can confirm... she thirsty... im averaging 8.1 l/100km... NOT as much as the V4 1100 though ;-)

    • @SINIS0RSA
      @SINIS0RSA 6 лет назад +1

      Going 50kph takes just as much power no matter if you are riding with 1st or 3rd gear. Engine will however have more friction losses at higher rpms. That's the main reason why it has lower fuel economy at higher gears. ;)

I had to leave the bike stand by itself while I ran as fast as I could to get blocks of wood to shove behind the rear wheel. I've had my MT10 for 18 months and I love it to bits. Do a lot of riding with my wife as passenger and have made my own rear footpeg extensions which help he 5ft 7ins height. Can get nearly 250 kms from a tank when we go country riding. I guess as I'm a lot older I find small dislikes insignificant. Greetings from Perth.

    • @barryroberts2474
      @barryroberts2474 6 лет назад

      Recently only short rides of about half an hour each way but we normally would at least double that when riding out to the nearer country towns like Toodyay, Northam or York or even Mundaring. So these work out at a tank full or just over, topping it up a little for the return if I have any doubts. Our old bums get a bit numb at times! I don't usually keep a record of distance.

  • @NathanSGuitar94

    Pretty crappy that you have to invest in a radial MC, braided lines and better pads when you drop $20K+ on the MT10, especially given it's the SP model. Sure on a budget bike like my SV650 you expect average brakes but not on a brand new MT10SP

    G'day Tom, fellow SP owner and weekend rider. Agree with all the negatives though the positives more than overlook them IMO ;) One other thing I've found is the amount of engine braking, particularly when turning off the cruise control can catch you out. Also the lack of options for an exhaust system is a bit annoying. Either really expensive titanium systems or just slip on options is a bit poor for a shared flagship platform. Keep up the good work mate, enjoy all the vids!

    About the fuel economy, I have the R1 and the FZ-10 (Or MT-10) ... And you have all the reason with the terrible fuel consumption, in particular I realized that the MT-10 consumes fuel faster than the R1, which from my point of view is wrong, to be a naked bike dedicated to be used a little more in town than the R1...

    Hi, nice vid! I use my MT10 since it came out and equipped it with Ktech race suspension and other goodies like full exhaust. I also use it to race it on the track :) My opinions for improvements are: Have the comfort seat too but found the original seat because of the low seat hight to be better. Breaks: get a different break pump like a brembo 18/19 or something similar. I use the 17 from the R1 and the breaks works million times better. The stock break pump is junk. M4 Brembo break pads and you are in business. Full Exhaust system and dyno. Wheelbase is to short. Get longer chain to put the axle to the back. Huge improvement. Wouldn't shorten the gear ratio as it is short already. Mine has enough to make it longer. Wheelbase will make it a weapon. SP Suspension was not sporty for my taste but thats a matter of taste. Stock suspension is so so, definitely can recommend KTech shock wich will transform the bike. Tires: I use Dunlop D212GP Pro .

    • @TheRickster998
      @TheRickster998 6 лет назад

      Cut the footpegs to 2/3rds of the length to make more room for my legs and stop it from scraping all day. I actually like the low footpegs. I just put a lower flatter ABM handlebars on it as the stock one is super high. Have not tested it but should be fine. Can recommend the KTech IDS cartridge as they are not too expensive and great.

    Not sure if you're a mechanical noob or just bad at explaining what you meant, but cam chain tensioners themselves dont make any noise. It's the lack of tension due to their design that results in that noise you hear.

I've had mine for 3 1/2 years now and the fuel consumption isn't brilliant, but mine has never been that bad. Here is the UK, there are speed cameras in some areas, but you can wind the bike up pretty quick away from towns and then get some pretty big numbers showing, but we do use all 6 of the gears. Absolute piece of cake to get up to way past 120..........that's mph.

  • @greatplanesman
    @greatplanesman 6 лет назад

    Just my 2 cents:
    1. You don't buy a liter bike for fuel economy, so I'm not even sure why you mentioned it...
    2. Probably a valid point, but it's not meant for tight turns on trails.
    3. Yep stock Yamaha seats suck on all of the MT line.
    4. I've heard the front brakes aren't so amazing compared to the R1 or S1000, have you considered any upgrades?
    5. No comment, I personally like heavy clutches.
    6. Has Yamaha issued a TSB? I had a problem with my FJ-09's cam chain and Yamaha rectified it with their most recent update.
    7. No comment
    8. No comment, same on my FJ-09.
    9. That could definitely be annoying.
    10. Time to go with a full system! The growl is phenomenal. Just do it. Or don't, it's your bike.
    11. Flash your ECU. Everyone who has done it says the bike really wakes up and everything smooths right out.
    12. Cruse is nice when doing a 150+ mile roadtrip at the same speed.
    13. Key FOB is nice on a car, haven't heard great things on bikes.
    14. Factory heated grips aren't available are they?
    Totally jealous, we can't get the SP model in the states.

    I have an XSR700. Pegs are too high for my GF to ride with me, also had to get lower ones.
    Stock is quiet as shite. Mirrors are garbage, even if you get the nuts apeshit-tight, they still flap inwards if you go on the highway, had to replace those.
    Only 75hp, 700cc's and I get about 5,4 liters/100km, Also city commuting.
    My stock saddle is comfy as hell though.

    Compared to my 2016 Rocket it's a moped gas sipper!!!! LOL!! My Rocket gets the same mileage as my 2012 Jeep Wrangler JK!!!! Lol! I fill her up, 6.2 gallons and get 116 miles. Best highway so far, 31.5 mpg. Maybe I should keep it under 85mph...

    Do you still have the MT10? Trying to get my head around such poor fuel mileage (yes I have had multiple 1000 including two S1000RR) so I understand but you know what it’s like here in Aus...we don’t have petrol stations on every corner

    I ride two up all the time like you with my wife, got tracer foot pegs, they are really good and looks OEM. I wasnt happy with the Brakes specially two up on my SP. Spend some money, got Brembo RCS19 master, Brembo Gp4-rs calipers and Frentubo braided lines, and now my brakes are as good as the Ktm super duke GT i used to have, even better. also have Graves EVR exhaust and Flashed Ecu the bike is very good now. but i am thinking of converting the Clutch cable to hydraulic with either Frando or Magura units, as in traffic the clutch is a joke, is far too heavy and you need to keep adjust it :/

      Also only break pads change is needed to get them feeling and working much better. Don't throw away this amazing bike!

      I had a zx6r 2007 with the grabbiest, strongest brakes ive ever used on a motorbike. The MT10 is not nearly as sharp but the brakes will pull you up. Better pads change the game however.

      No dont get it. I come from an old swedish Cresent bicycle with the kind of brakes that bite the sides of the rims. This mt10 can’t even keep up with those. 10/10 worst brakes ever. My 2 year old son could stop the mt10 faster by pinching on the brake disc.

    I owe exactly the same bike and all those bad qualities disappear when compared to the huge and numerous qualities it has, wouldn’t use it as a commuter though. It’s a naked hypersport and hyper sophisticated motorcycle. Btw what about wearing some gloves?

    What's the wind like? In particular I hate most naked bikes in the winter because I either have to wear yet more bulky gear or deal with cold legs. With a fully faired bike I can wear jeans even when it's less than 0 degrees.

    I love how quiet it is, also the mt09 , when going slow it almost sounds like an electric. I agree having a super loud exhaust all the time would get old quick. The stock seat is like a board on the mt10, slightly better on the mt09 and yes both bikes are thirsty but I didn't expect great fuel economy, still a lot cheaper than any of my other vehicles. Brakes feel fine to me, I did get mirror extenders and radiator covers, but other than that they are both great bikes.
