Picked one up today, had to ride 100 miles down three motorways and bloody hell this thing shifts, feels light, and manoeuvrable, makes a lovely noise changing down low speed, got to learn how to ride this baby properly !
TheZallene hey man it's cool.your not the only one who thought the design was ugly. I thought that when the superbike debut. But over time you get used to it. Even now these designs are becoming fashion. Like the ktm range, the mt-10 and these bimmers haha
I hated it at first but It's really grown on me, I love the look of BMW's. I love even more that you can tell straight away without a doubt by looking at the headlights It's a BMW.
Im ex uk now living in Australia. Love your reviews & presenting style. Real reviews for real people on real roads. My go to channel for anything bike related. keep up the high standards!
Hey +Themissendenflyer I loved the bmw range and the s1000r but I have never seen one. Your helmet camera and audios are awesome but your close up on the phone camera did it for me. I can go on about the texture and clarity of the picture but I'll end with the conclusion. Your vid allowed me to eliminate the other competitor bikes easily which I've been somewhat struggling with and I've done the research on those others. Thank you very much and now ive enabled your channel to pop up on my notifications. Keep it up man your honesty and view points are great.
Hello again! I have 2015 R and I love it to bits. Took her last year to Corsica via route de Grande Alpes. No problem at all touring on it. On way back spent 930km in saddle, felt it of course but it wasn't bad honestly. you need to refuel her every 130mls so 20 mins stops helped recover from sore bum, but you get one after day worth of riding on any bike. Changes in 2017 model wouldn't tempt me to swap as they are marginal compared to bike as a whole. Nice review as always!
And here I am looking back wondering if I should get one of these for my ‘naked back lane blaster’. TMF is like Heinz Ketchup no matter what you move onto and try the world over you always go back to that time honoured favourite for the homely feel and guaranteed nailed on review each and every time.
Mines a satin Blue 14 plate nearly 7k on it had it a month only, I seriously believe in the naked class it is the best in the world. cyclops front lights in my opinion are a style genius how many bikes can you identify from afar ? Virtually none, this one you know it’s coming toward you, great idea we only can expect from German engineers.
I just purchased a 2015 S1000R and I can honestly say that it is the most fun bike to ride. And bought and sold about 9 or 10 bikes in the last 3 years.
Incredible bikes available nowadays. It's always fun when you ride through towns and then in the open; the routes you choose through your reviews are interesting to watch from abroad in addition to the thoughts. I love your walkarounds with the details, I often open a tab and read up as you comment (pausing your commentary so I don't miss the details you point out). I got a massive chuckle when you bonked your head not just once but twice on your walkaround on this video. !!! On this bike, I love everything BUT the BMW headlights for the exact reason you note, just doesn't appeal to my aesthetic sense.
Great review as always. just looks a little busy in my eyes. You made me very happy when you said you'd personally take the SDR though! It's inbound and I've never been so excited about getting a new toy 😁
I absolutley agree with your comment about fairings, if you have a race fairing, whatever your body would have got your head gets a lot of that. You need to go over 120mph (ish) for a race fairing to start working properly. A slight forward lean helps, but it's not too much, as an R1200R rider I love the S1000r Nice review bud.
Another great review, your making me jealous tonight, lovely day and a mental bike. Had one of these as a loan bike for a few weeks while my X-R was in for some warranty work.
I've been as far as Cologne on my 2014 s1000r - from sunny MK - and I and it handled the trip better than on a Crossrunner couple of years earlier. Great at slow speed as mentioned, comfortable at good cruising speeds despite very little plastic, and the seat might be hard but it's well shaped. I regret not picking cruise control from the list though. The akra on the new one looks awful imo compared to the old one - a euro4 thing I guess - but I'm almost tempted even if the difference between old and new s1000r is slight. I'll put that off until I've test ridden one or two other things: sdr and even the r1200r for example! Of course, excellent review!
I've ridden most of the new supernakeds and i still think the tuono is superior. it out handles all, its pinpoint accurate and sounds incredible. The new MT10sp thats coming out looks to be a winner though.
I can tell you now, you'll have fun on the MT/FZ-10. Though it just isn't as polished as its competitors, nor as thought out. The motor is an absolute treat, with one of the best sounds I've heard in a long time from a inline-4. I'd be interested to see you opinion.
Great reviews generally and particularly this one. Looking to change bike next year and am seriously considering a naked bike and this, the new Triumph Street Triple and the Yamaha XSR 900. However only returned to biking a couple of years ago and have an F700GS which has proved an ideal re-introduction. Given the huge performance differences do you think (especially with regard to the S1000R) this sensible? I/m a mature rider (50's) and like to think I'm pretty safe, using the bike to commute on busy A roads and for a few trips. The tech is appealing as are the dimensions and (you say) the day to day practicality. Carry on the good work!
Well if you've had the F700 for a couple of years you know what you're doing by now, I wouldn't worry about the performance of this (brilliant though it is) you can ride it as slowly or fast as you like, you'll be fine....enjoy!
Thank you for that ride report, Flyer! Your comparison with the KTM SDR was helpful. For the money, I don't think I made a poor choice going with the S1000R. But there are so many good bikes these days. Looking forward to more of your research. As always - excellent review.
Lovely scenery! :-) I absolutely agree, so many really good bikes these days makes it difficult to choose ones favorite! Or rather, which one not to buy!
I reckon you can tell from the excitement in your voice when you reviewed the SDR that you loved that bike and not just down to how it looks! ;) I actually love how the S1000r looks ;p Great review, shame I didn't see you on the road because I went past Bahnstormer yesterday (21st March) on my way to Loomies. /21
Aha, I see, nice bit of deduction! Sadly wrong in this case but no matter - thanks for watching and for stopping by, always good to have you along....TMF
+TheMissendenFlyer agree with deadhead you could tell you were not in love with this as you were with the SuperDuke, if you could put your finger on what makes you soul stir with the SD what is it ? Sound, torque, ergos?
A tank bag, some soft throw over panniers on the rear then off to the Pyrenees, a tempting prospect for those who ride without a pillion. Quite good value too in the bang for your buck stakes too(especially if you can live with chain drive!) Great review TMF. cheers
Ooooo, now I want one even more. Love these bikes, even the front end. That red and black colour scheme is fantastic. The long distance touring thing is my only reservation...... Its between the R2000RS and this one.Gonna have to test ride one.
Good review. I owned a 2015 S1000R. If I could describe it in one word, it would be: clinical. Good to see the QS from the XR has been fitted. Much better than the old one. I see they are persisting with the stupid non adjustable clutch lever....why, one wonders..? Thanks. PS - Marlow is a lovely spot.
It is a bit too much for me I think that bike. I love BMW's boxer twins. It is amazing how practical it is in town given what it has in performance though. Can something be hairy and naked at the same time? First class review, concise, informative and fun!
I really like this bike but I think my money would go on the KTM. I just think that bike would make yo feel a little more special, certainly for the biking I do which is purely leisure. Great video again bud.
love that bike. cracking review as always. can i ask, have you had any experience on the BMW k1300 r? that is my dream bike and would be very interested to know what someone like you thinks of it.
What do you think now when you have ride the S1000R, gsxs1000 and the cb1000r, Which bike do you prefer? I have tested all 3 and I am having a hard time to descide. I think the BMW is feeling rather sporty and I love the cruise control. But the insurance is almost 1.5x higher. But is it worth it?
Hello. I just came across your channel whilst browsing for S1000r videos (considering trading in my Ducati 796 for one), and I'd like to say I thoroughly enjoyed your narration and the overall structuring of the video. Well done, subscribed. PS- If I were to change a thing, I'd add a few words on the suspension and/or it's settings.
Lisbon, Portugal. Been on the monster for seven years almost, a 250 before that. Might be time for the 1000r. Hoping it's as smooth and well behaved slow/in town as it seems to be. The monster has a lot less power but is very moody/a bit jerky down low.
Hi TMF, lovely review again. I'm bit in doubt, I like this 4 cilinder engine, incredible smooth but I also like the KTM's 2 cilinder. Which engine do you prefer and why since you had ride them both. Im normally into 2 cilinders (sound better) but this engine is lovely. Both are 150 hp+.
Yes it's a difficult call isn't it! I think I'd prefer the 4 cylinder engine, all else being equal, but that is purely a personal call and very much a marginal thing. Thanks for the kind words and for watching once again - TMF
Thanks for another super vlog TMF. Just a few comments. Firstly I wish BMW had invested as much thought into the styling as they have into the wonderful engineering. Apart from the front end, compare the dustbin silencer on the BM with the silencers on the Ducati Monster 1200S or the Morini Corsaro 1200 ZZ.....both Euro4. It's a bit better then the Suzuki monstrosity but not much. Maybe they could contract VW exhaust emissions department to help them out :) Secondly I think banging your head on the church porch could have been divine intervention. I notice you didn't follow the 2 rather smart ladies into church on your vlog last week ;) Thirdly, Marlow has got a good cream cake shop just over the bridge if I remember rightly. That's exhausted my knowledge of Marlow. Anyway, looking forward to the next one....vlog...not cream cake shop.
Cheers Steve - you your points in order; Agreed, wonderful bike from an engineering perspective, looks, err, not so much to my eyes. Can it be that hard to design a nice looking exhaust?? maybe it is. Sadly divine intervention wouldn't work with me as I'm an atheist...and if I recall correctly those "smart ladies" looked like a couple of pensioners...I'm more into newer models ;0) ...and yes Marlow has got a good cream cake shop over the bridge, and many great pubs and restaurants - well worth you visiting again, a lovely spot! Cheers - TMF
TheMissendenFlyer I hope Mrs Flyer is not reading the comments otherwise you'll be greasing your own chain for the next week or two. The 2 'ladies of a certain age' probably out the curse on you for not joining them. They probably preferred the Super Duke too! :)
I found it. I think it's a looker too. The squinty headlight is growing on me. Mind you the KTM Superduke R headlight is not exactly traditional in style either, also dividing opinion and style of the rest of the bike as well. As you say very hard to choose a bike as there are so many good bikes now. Don't forget the Aprilia Tuono either although it doesn't have a fuel gauge which is a deal breaker for me. Just is. Also the new 2018 Speed Triple RS slightly less power though.
Well done on your search Alex! For me the S1000R is my least favourite of the super nakeds - don't get me wrong, an awesome bike, I'd just take an MT-10SP or SDR over it...
You may be surprised if you try it. I was quite taken with the "Thrilling Black" version of the 1200R. I now have that plus a Panigale. Very different riding experiences, of course, yet both bikes give the rider that certain "Ducati feeling." Obviously, people differ regarding whether they care for the looks of a particular bike. I had the S1000rr, which is fantastic in its own right, but I find the Panigale much more exciting-- in looks, sound, and riding (handling).
I have to say that I have owned one of these and also the S1000RR which was a 2012 (and awesome by the way). My R was a 2014. The bike was great whilst it worked. However mine had a dangerous I guess electronic or fuelling issue, which BMW themselves failed to resolve on more than 4 occasions. Each time I was told it was fixed the fault reocurred with a mile or two of the dealership. What was the fault I hear you say... well in my case whilst slowing down (off the throttle and coming down the gearbox) the bike would just cut out. It happened to approaching junctions and roundabouts ALL the time. BMW said it was my riding style, so I asked 2 friends to ride it and it happened to them aswell! They then said that as I had done 6000 miles on the bike that I'd had good use of it.... my argument was that it was not fit for purpose. Anyway after much legal wrangling and an independant inspection I got some of my money back... but due to this dangerous fault, BMW's failure to resolve or even acknowledge there was an issue I took what money I got back and traded in for another bike An aprilia Tuono Factory and so far so good no issues (yet). I will never buy another BMW bike as long as I live as they treat their customers really badly.
Nothing firm, still just a wish at this time....(just got back from the Alps this week as it happens, riding on two planks rather than two wheels though)...fabulous part of the world...
didn't realise you had reviewed this as well. So I'm very keen to chop in the explorer as just find I'm not actually going to the moon after all and find it heavy in town. Thoughts are to px for either yam mt10 sp or this bow. I would put comfort seat and Ako on the mt10. Whats you're thoughts. I need a smaller agile upright bike for both fun and a London commute from Bedford now and again. Would welcome what you think if have a moment regards Tris
Another fab review. Another gorgeous bike. I think the 2015 model still looks a bit better than this one. And I'm inclined to agree with you about the asymmetric appearance I think they'd sell more if they just nipped it in the bud. Still got my fingers crossed for a future CBR1000RR review in the future 😉
Hi TMF. Another great review. I'm really struggling deciding between the superduke and tuono ( I know poor me) I've ridden them both and they are completely different bikes considering they are both supernakeds. I've discounted the BMW just because of the looks. Do you plan on doing a review of the tuono ? I have done one on my channel but it's not quite up to your standard.
Well I'd love to ride a Tuono but I don't have the right connections to get someone to lend me one...I am working on it though as on paper it looks a splendid machine...
A sunny day. A s1000r to play on, life must feel sweet. A lovely bit of kit. Would I keep my licence clean, it's marginal. I think the front end is an acquired taste. It's not the only bike with questionable front end styling. The side view is very good. Thanks for the look and review sir.
...indeed, just spent the last week skiing in France so that was rather good too! Back now though and looking forward to more bikes....got some good stuff in the offing - stay tuned :0)
TheMissendenFlyer Sounds like fun. Get the good lady to drive the Range Rover with skis at all, let you ride the GS round those Alps! Anyway hope you're in one piece after your ski trip. Grab a Tuono now. Ride safe.
Out of KTM and this, which would be quicker point to point? I remember my s1000r used to have a really fast turn in due to the electric suspension possibly; the ease at which it would make progress made it feel a bit clinical.
I don't suppose there would be anything in it if I were riding both, both amazingly quick bikes. The BMW is a little clinical compared to the KTM which has that indefinable thing they call "character" (in a good way)...
Hi TMF, great video as always and good timing for me as I'm thinking about getting one. I have a street triple RX at the mo and would appreciate your thoughts on upgrading to one or to stick with the triumph. I use it to commute a couple of days a week but mainly as a weekend toy on twisty B roads.. really happy with the triumph but the BMW has all the electrics one would ever need.
Difficult one for me to answer Neil because it depends what you value most in a bike. If smooth turbine like engine delivery, outstanding power and speed and top level electronics float your boat then it has to be the BMW. If pure lightweight hooligan fun accompanied by that triple howl are more your bag, then a new Street would be right up your err, street....
TheMissendenFlyer thanks for your reply. I know, 50/50 is how I feel. Will book a test ride as that will make my mind up for me. Street triple rx sounds great too now I've fitted a Remus Hypercone on it!
the 2017 model pops after you decelerate? i don t know how to explain properly, but i want to know that the 2017 model have that nice sound when you down shift or you simply take hand off accelerate. for example rj's bmw s1000r have a nice pop at this simptoms.
Bought a 2019 msport one of these a few months ago , loving it so far , great power & handling , one thing I don’t like on it is the big catylic converter on it !!
Great review mate! I am torn between this and the Triumph Speed Triple R. I like that the S1000R offers everything, Quickshifter, dynamic suspension, cruise, heated grips etc etc. Did you try the different modes and suspension settings? how much of a difference? The shops around my place dont have any demo bikes that i can test ride, its very disappointing.
What a bummer, how can they expect you to ride a bike without trying it! I did try Dynamic mode (made a difference) but not the suspension settings. I'm a huge Triumph fan as you know, but this bike makes the Speed Triple look somewhat basic/slow.....if only you could have these electronics and that 1000cc motor with the looks of the Speed Triple!
Great review as usual , how would u rate the new R1200R against this ? I know this would be more of a hooligan tool but as an every day bike I reckon the seat and a few other things on the R1200R might make it a better all round bike etc
Well I'd take this over the R1200R any day - the R1200R is a great all rounder but it isn't especially exciting....this on the other hand very much is!
Shaft drive, fairings, and the more comfortable pillion plush has been leading me to R1200RS. But the more I ponder and watch your videos, the more frequently I change my mind..
korewest the r1200r. Or RS are no sluggish bikes they actually have more nm of torque than the s1000r and its at lower revs producing this power , top speed tops out at 150 mph alright but how often do u go above this speed anyway really
As an S1000R owner (2014), I can tell you there is no difference to the back end itself. Just the license plate / mudguard bit looks a bit different, but most people put on a tail tidy anyways. In my personal opinion, whoever is responsible for the colour scheme on the new red/black bike should be fired. I honestly can't say much positive about that, the old one looks so much better. The only thing they got right was the black trim between the tank and the frame, which was bronze on the old one.
I think it looks good ... apart from the headlights ! ignoring headlights and looks, actually riding them, what do you prefer this , Speed Triple , Super Duke 1290 or some other super naked ?
Hello Mr Flyer , love your reviews. Need some advice please. I'm getting a new bike in Jan (I'm coming up to 60 so it'll probably be my last) Been researching for the last 12 months and narrowed down to 2 bikes. My head says the BMW S1000r but my heart says the Monster 1200. The issue I have with the Monster is I hear so many issues about cold starting its putting me off (don't want to be worried when I'm away that the bike wont start in the mornings) Please Advise
Had one for a day whilst my R1200R Sport was in for a 12k service. A nice bike, but I wouldn't want to tour on one, the constant howl from the exhaust at cruising speed really got on my nerves. 4,000+ RPM at 70MPH is ridiculous. And what's with the heavy cable clutch? Even my boring R1200R has a light, hydraulic, slip-assist clutch.
Yes loud exhausts sound like a good idea when you first hear them but do an 8 hour day in the saddle and you quickly change your mind! ...at least I did, which is why I now run my GS back on the stock exhaust...
Hi how did you find all the ride modes and settings on the s1000r been considering it as my next bike I've never had a bike with rider aids I currently have a cb1000r also how does it compare to the speed triple which would you say was the better bike . Thanks Tony 🏁
+Tony Roberts The BMW is the better bike, personally I'm not that fussed with electronic rider aids beyond ABS, you can keep riding modes as far as I'm concerned....
A year late but I had a 2014 Tuono v4 and it was riddled with faults. An amazing bike when everything was working as it should but very frustrating when it wouldn't start because it was too hot for instance, or when the traction control shook me out of the seat for no reason. I now have a s1000rr and it's perfect.
Another good review. I'd have a test ride on one but know it would mean P/x ing my R12R. Had a V2 Tuono a few years ago, total hooligan bike & I reckon this is the same.
Hey looking at a second hand one of these with 27 thousand kms (17 thousand miles). Do you think that is a lot of kms for a bike like this with full service history or stay away ??
17K in my opinion is high. Because the bmw timing chain and valve checks are due at 18,000 miles So straight off the bat after the purchase you'll shortly be paying for this job to be done costing any upwards of £1,200 provided parts need replacing. I bought one 6 months ago with 7,500 miles on the clock.
Jersey City Kickboxing And Coach Paul Clark it’s a turd. Rode one, power delivery is not smooth, and has a very agricultural/budget feel to it overall. Honda missed the mark by a mile. It’s more like a big bore hornet 600.
Hi, another good review, any chance you could review the speed triple R 2016. would like to hear what you have to say about it and compare it to this and KTM. Cheers
I'm interested in how it compares to the speed triple for comfort, especially regarding the footpegs as I have an arthritic knee? Can anyone advise please?
Gday from Australia. I’m testing this bike 2019 /20 next week with an intent to do mostly commuting and some mid range tours on it ( 2000k loops). What do you think? More than capable for touring in all weathers?
so if you were to buy a new bmw, which would it be, this one or the nine t racer ? granted they are very different machines, but as far as fun and ownership satisfaction. I know, I' m always asking you tough questions, thanks
Actually that would be easy - for me I would take the R9T racer, it has bags of character, the S1000R is a clinical scalpel, excellent at what it does but just lacking that certain something for me.....
let me ask you sth TMF... imho S1000R, 1290 Duke R and MT-10 are absolute top claas when it comes to Power Naked's. you own Speed Triple and I am wondering how does she hold to the other 3?
+Vstm Actually I have a Street Triple - but I have ridden Speed Triples quite a lot and although I love them, quite frankly the SDR, MT10 and S1000R are all much quicker bikes - this new breed of super naked are in another league to the old Trumpet....
cheers for honest answer mate, this helps me narrow down my shopping list ;) need to perform couple more test rides. helpful as always "until the next time" !
I’d have the Super Duke too, if it wasn’t several thousand pounds more expensive. That being the case, BMW all the way, the Duke isn’t that amount of cash better 😎.
Heard several people saying, that the container for the brake fluid does fell easily off. Is that true? (sorry for any misstakes, english isn't my native language)
# Very useful, sensible and helpful review. , drive daily to work in the city and also the highway( Commuting) and sometimes during a weekend round of recreational so, which one? don't like Adventure such an engine, love Naked bike & sport tour bike so what is your opinion? S1000R or Speed/ Street triple..... Any way great video God bless
I compared two bikes to two collective sports, in another video, today I think this bike is for extreme sports (base jump, etc.)! I still prefer rugby (GS).
Picked one up today, had to ride 100 miles down three motorways and bloody hell this thing shifts, feels light, and manoeuvrable, makes a lovely noise changing down low speed, got to learn how to ride this baby properly !
Having read through the comments, I must be the only one that actually likes the asymmetrical styled headlights :( haha
Well these sell very well so there must be a loyal following!
I'm not massively keen on the lights, the rest of the bike looks lovely. Think I'm going to have to test ride one.
you make fantastic videos, love your vocabulary and well structured sentences, thoughtful and intelligent. Thank you!
Wow, very kind of you to say so...thanks.
You're not wrong; TMF is one of the better MC reviewers on RUclips, IMHO.

Thank you Andrew - appreciate the kind comment!
Hey +Themissendenflyer I loved the bmw range and the s1000r but I have never seen one. Your helmet camera and audios are awesome but your close up on the phone camera did it for me. Thanks David - glad you found this of use!
It's great to see the European bikes competing better against the japanese machines. Great time to be a biker!
Completely agree, some amazing bikes out there for us to play with.....
It looks like the terminator with its face half ripped off. It's a machine!
Hello again! I have 2015 R and I love it to bits. Took her last year to Corsica via route de Grande Alpes. No problem at all touring on it. Nice one Pawel, and yes these are in my book fairly minor changes over last years model....I wouldn't trade up either - awesome bike...
Sorry for the late find on this one, first class content again! Thoroughly enjoyed watching, cheers :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
What an awesome bike! Can't wait till I'm old enough to ride some of these beasts 😄 great video as always TMF
Thanks AB - your time will come, hang in there!
You're old enough now, son!
And here I am looking back wondering if I should get one of these for my ‘naked back lane blaster’. TMF is like Heinz Ketchup no matter what you move onto and try the world over you always go back to that time honoured favourite for the homely feel and guaranteed nailed on review each and every time.
How very kind of you - thank you....
Glad to see all the new reviews lately. All bikes i would love to try out. Thanks for all the vids.
Lots more to come James - stay tuned!
Wish it had provision for factory hard panniers like the VFR does. It’ll make an awesome sports tourer
I rode the S1000R earlier this year great bike, good review again Mr Flyer
+vince halls Thank you Vince, good to hear from you again!
I just purchased a 2015 S1000R and I can honestly say that it is the most fun bike to ride.
And bought and sold about 9 or 10 bikes in the last 3 years.
Nice one - enjoy!
Owning a '15 RT and a '17 GSA, that bike will complete the collection. Love that machine.
May as well go for the triple eh?
Indeed.
Incredible bikes available nowadays. ...glad I gave you a laugh!
Only bad thing is that there is so few used +2017 model to sell. Like 3 in FIN & SWE together, so the price is still premium
Get a 2016 model
Great review as always. just looks a little busy in my eyes.
You made me very happy when you said you'd personally take the SDR though! It's inbound and I've never been so excited about getting a new toy 😁
It's an amazing bit of kit, congratulations George....
Thank you Ian - all the best - TMF
Another great review, your making me jealous tonight, lovely day and a mental bike. Had one of these as a loan bike for a few weeks while my X-R was in for some warranty work.
Yes - they're good fun aren't they....
+Gary Walker Thanks Gary, I suspected it would make a reasonable touring machine, lovely bike....
Hey TMF. Got my new S1KR a month ago. Enjoying her alot😁Thanks for the review.
Nice one!
Great review, great bike! Don't forget to test ride the new Tuono mate!
....I'm working on it!
I've ridden most of the new supernakeds and i still think the tuono is superior. it out handles all, its pinpoint accurate and sounds incredible. The new MT10sp thats coming out looks to be a winner though.
oh and great video by the way
Thanks - I hope I get to try a Tuono some time, I only ever hear/read good things about them...
I can tell you now, you'll have fun on the MT/FZ-10. Though it just isn't as polished as its competitors, nor as thought out. The motor is an absolute treat, with one of the best sounds I've heard in a long time from a inline-4. I'd be interested to see you opinion.
+Heroic955 Yes I can't wait to have a go on one, hopefully soon....
another great review my man ,luv that BMW
Cheers Will - appreciate your kind words....
Thank you Spectolux....I'm intrigued by your name, where did that come from?
I'm a photojournalist. My username is a Latin construct I made up meaning - see light - which is what I do most days. ;)
As always a great talk through
Thank you Ian...
Lovely scenery! :-) I absolutely agree, so many really good bikes these days makes it difficult to choose ones favorite! Or rather, which one not to buy!
That's exactly the problem!
I reckon you can tell from the excitement in your voice when you reviewed the SDR that you loved that bike and not just down to how it looks! ;) I actually love how the S1000r looks ;p
Great review, shame I didn't see you on the road because I went past Bahnstormer yesterday (21st March) on my way to Loomies.
/21
...what makes you think this was yesterday??? :0)
we've had very few nice days recently and if it's anything like your superduke review you posted that up within 24hrs of shooting it .
Quite good value too in the bang for your buck stakes too(especially if you can live with chain drive!)
Great review TMF.
cheers
Yes 100% agree, this would make a fine fun tourer - thanks for watching once again and your kind words as ever - TMF
Ooooo, now I want one even more. Love these bikes, even the front end. That red and black colour scheme is fantastic. The long distance touring thing is my only reservation...... Its between the R2000RS and this one.Gonna have to test ride one.
....I bet I know which one you'll like best ;0) (this one)....
Consider installing a larger screen for touring needs. I did and it has considerably improved my touring experience!
Consider the R1200R if you want a naked bike
Borrowed a R1200R whilst getting my car serviced recently. It was fully loaded and a nice bike but just didn't quite do it for me.
Very ugly front head lights. Totally unfitted.
The 2017 model has rubber bushes where the handlebars clamp onto the triple tree to reduce the vibes that previous model owners complained of.....
Thanks for that - I certainly didn't notice any troublesome vibes....
Agreed, clinical sort of sums it up, nothing wrong with it, maybe that's an issue, lack of character? ..and agreed, Marlow is a top spot....
It is a bit too much for me I think that bike. I love BMW's boxer twins. It is amazing how practical it is in town given what it has in performance though. Can something be hairy and naked at the same time? First class review, concise, informative and fun!
Thanks Brighton Dude - clearly naked and hairy does go!
Lovely review well spoken too, love this bike
Thank you...
I really like this bike but I think my money would go on the KTM. I just think that bike would make yo feel a little more special, certainly for the biking I do which is purely leisure. Great video again bud.
Thank you Chris...
Great review as always btw
Thank you sir!
I picked mine up last Thursday I love it
Excellent! Congratulations and ride safe....
love that bike. cracking review as always. can i ask, have you had any experience on the BMW k1300 r? that is my dream bike and would be very interested to know what someone like you thinks of it.
Thanks for the kind words Ken...and no I've not ridden the K1300R but if I get the chance I would love to.....stay tuned! All the best - TMF
All that advanced technology and BMW prominently places a pea/sample cup on the handlebar...
Pee
Not eating pea soup.
Hey my friend, where do you live ? I’m from Slough, I was litteraly at Bahnstormer Maidenhead this afternoon !
There's a clue in my channel name (Great Missenden)...
TheMissendenFlyer Thought so ! We should go out for a ride sometime.
This time you got it spot on! :D
(The pronounciation of Akrapovič)
Thank goodness for that...
Thank you for your kind words Diogo and welcome along! Where are you from??
Lisbon, Portugal. Been on the monster for seven years almost, a 250 before that. Might be time for the 1000r. Hoping it's as smooth and well behaved slow/in town as it seems to be. The monster has a lot less power but is very moody/a bit jerky down low.
Another great review.
Thank you :0)
Hi TMF, lovely review again.
Maybe they could contract VW exhaust emissions department to help them out :)
Secondly I think banging your head on the church porch could have been divine intervention. I notice you didn't follow the 2 rather smart ladies into church on your vlog last week ;)
Thirdly, Marlow has got a good cream cake shop just over the bridge if I remember rightly.
Luckily Mrs Flyer has no interest in bikes so slim chance of her reading these comments....just as well as you say... :0)
Which did you prefer between this one and the R1250R?
Great review I'm going to buy one now 😁
2020 model and still no TFT? Come on BMW!
BMW must have read your comment because the 2021 was just revealed with it, thanks sprite for making it happen
@@KB-yj5xp You are welcome. Now where's that comment on hoping they wouldn't botch the front end...
Really enjoyable review! Another competitor to try would be the Monster 1200R--similar specifications but with a different engine character.
Yes for some reason the Monster doesn't appeal to me that much, don't know why as I'm obv a Ducati fan....
Yeah I completely get that Ben....always an occasion when I ride the Panigale, love it....
Crikey, sorry to hear your story Stu, sounds like a nightmare.....
Due to the price I'd choose the MT10 but R bikes have their following, Quite a few here in Daytona, very satisfied customers.
Yes an undeniably good bike - only the looks don't do it for me. Thanks for watching -TMF
nice review 👍
can t wait for summer to come... what about your summer-Austrian-Alps-tour? any plans yet?
cheers Tom
Nothing firm, still just a wish at this time....(just got back from the Alps this week as it happens, riding on two planks rather than two wheels though)...fabulous part of the world...
TheMissendenFlyer
go for it. the Dolomites are fantastic. you won t regret it 😉
No I don't, I've ski'd in the Dolomites lots of times and will be back in Italy before this season is out (Cervinia).....
didn't realise you had reviewed this as well. Would welcome what you think if have a moment
regards
Tris
The Yamaha would be the one for me - I far preferred it over the BMW.....but ride them both, just my preference!
Keep 'em crossed Rob, the day appears to be getting nearer ;0)
TheMissendenFlyer Yes!! music to my ears. 😀😀😀😀
Not that much nearer but there is talk ;0) .....
On yer bike has a demo bike. Maybe if you ask them nicely?
Daniel Moore Yeah I did the tuono factory demo from on yer bike... Get down there. Stunning bike.
Yeah I may give them another go.....
Great looking bike. I want one! Did you get to ride it in Dynamic mode?
Sure did :0)
A sunny day.
TheMissendenFlyer
Sounds like fun. Get the good lady to drive the Range Rover with skis at all, let you ride the GS round those Alps!
Anyway hope you're in one piece after your ski trip. Grab a Tuono now. Ride safe.
....now there's an idea!
The BMW is a little clinical compared to the KTM which has that indefinable thing they call "character" (in a good way)...
squeezar jones I plan
Hey sir, Good to see you using the throttle a bit more in this review. Keep that up ;-)
:0)
Great review as always! If you do review the MT10 you have to do the Aprilia Tuono Factory! :)
Yes I am hoping to get to both, just need to find a friendly Aprilia dealer....
Wheels in Peterborough are one of my nearest, they're about an hour from you. Very friendly, but do plot a test route as I struggled with where to go!
Peterborough is a lot more than an hour away from me (thankfully ;0)
the 2017 model pops after you decelerate? i don t know how to explain properly, but i want to know that the 2017 model have that nice sound when you down shift or you simply take hand off accelerate. for example rj's bmw s1000r have a nice pop at this simptoms.
Yes it does...you can relax :0)
I think the triumph RS also directly competes with this given its all rounded offering.
Bought a 2019 msport one of these a few months ago , loving it so far , great power & handling , one thing I don’t like on it is the big catylic converter on it !!
Can’t you have it in full exhaust?
Francisco Carlos yes can buy a full race system but cost another € 1000 or more
Motorcycle addict worth it, as long as neighbours don’t complain 😁
Great review mate! I am torn between this and the Triumph Speed Triple R. I like that the S1000R offers everything, Quickshifter, dynamic suspension, cruise, heated grips etc etc. Did you try the different modes and suspension settings? how much of a difference? The shops around my place dont have any demo bikes that i can test ride, its very disappointing.
What a bummer, how can they expect you to ride a bike without trying it! I did try Dynamic mode (made a difference) but not the suspension settings. I'm a huge Triumph fan as you know, but this bike makes the Speed Triple look somewhat basic/slow.....if only you could have these electronics and that 1000cc motor with the looks of the Speed Triple!
hmmm yes. Totally agree
Aussie Rider would be the street r for me really classy styling and a incredible engine full of character.
David C, i have thought about that too. So many options, so many great bikes out.
Good problem to have though eh?
Very good points, I've got a few test rides scheduled for April! I am hoping that will settle things :]
Definitely ride them both, they are quite different bikes...you won't go wrong with either....
The only thing they got right was the black trim between the tank and the frame, which was bronze on the old one.
fair enough....
I think it looks good ... apart from the headlights ! ignoring headlights and looks, actually riding them, what do you prefer this , Speed Triple , Super Duke 1290 or some other super naked ?
I’m a fan of the MT10 SP
@@TheMissendenFlyer The MT10 sounds good, dunno if I'd want to look at the headlights much though.
Way above my pay grade that one!! All I can say is I've not had any issues with Ducati's not starting personally....
@@TheMissendenFlyer 🤣Thanks
Not a fan of the headlights on the R but I love the look of the older RR's headlight, still would not say no if someone offered me one!
I'm with you on that 100% - Lovely bike (if you don't have to look at it head on!)....
👍looking at purchasing a used bike, I can always trust there will be a TMF video to review thanks 🙏🏼
Glad to help
Like the S1000R it's just a shame about the looks. You should try the Tuono as the V4 is something else.
I'd love too Jim, I only hear good things about it...
Just sold mine unfortunately, but on the plus I've got a Daytona 675R :)
Nice!
Yup - hooligan about describes it....
Hey looking at a second hand one of these with 27 thousand kms (17 thousand miles). Do you think that is a lot of kms for a bike like this with full service history or stay away ??
17K in my opinion is high. Because the bmw timing chain and valve checks are due at 18,000 miles
So straight off the bat after the purchase you'll shortly be paying for this job to be done costing any upwards of £1,200 provided parts need replacing.
I bought one 6 months ago with 7,500 miles on the clock.
Are you going to review the CB1000R cafe anytime soon ?? Thanks!
Cheers
Thanks Bryn, I guess you've not seen my 2016 Speed Triple R review? ruclips.net/video/K4A_U4K9MVk/видео.html
Sure thing!
TheMissendenFlyer going through your vids here but keep coming back to the BMW.
so if you were to buy a new bmw, which would it be, this one or the nine t racer ? granted they are very different machines, but as far as fun and ownership satisfaction.
Completely agree. I have the 16 plate s1000r and took the superduke out. For 5 grand extra, I couldn't see the gains
Good review, thanks
I need gear assist pro in my life. It would make my dinosaur feel like a rooster. 😁
As always, good work. 👍✨
Thank you Jiga....and yes, gear assist pro rocks!
Heard several people saying, that the container for the brake fluid does fell easily off. Is that true? (sorry for any misstakes, english isn't my native language)
I didn't have any problems but then I only had the bike for a short time - I've not head of that issue I must say....
Would you buy this or the super duke?
SuperDuke
# Very useful, sensible and helpful review. , drive daily to work in the city and also the highway( Commuting) and sometimes during a weekend round of recreational so, which one? don't like Adventure such an engine, love Naked bike & sport tour bike so what is your opinion? S1000R or Speed/ Street triple..... Any way great video
God bless
Thank you Petroos - glad you liked the video!
I compared two bikes to two collective sports, in another video, today I think this bike is for extreme sports (base jump, etc.)! I still prefer rugby (GS).
Fair enough!
That engine is in a GS type frame, you know what it is. The comfortable, rapid who cares what it looks like(it grows on you) XR
...as I said in the video ;0)
does it not feel like just a de-tuned S1000RR with comfort handlebars ?
Yeah pretty much.....and not that de-tuned!
Hi, great video, thanks. Can you review the yamaha mt10 SP?
I'm working on it Jason, as soon as I have access to one you can be assured I'll review it! Thanks for watching - TMF
Good Evening TMF Thank You for the Review and Video
Good evening Wayne, you are very welcome, I remain your humble servant - TMF
