Oh mate - same here - I don’t think I got the best possible deal when I bought mine cos of how much I was smiling after the test ride. I’d decided about 10 minutes from the dealers I was buying it and the salesman could see that on my face 🤣🤣🤣
On paper they’re similar, but the speed triple never did it for me. I find the riding position, balance, feel and general excitement of the S1000 just much more engaging. It’s a bit up on power, but it’s not just that, it’s the whole experience. Hard to put your finger on - definitely try them both and see what works for you!
Well, look on the bright side, as a bike with great front end feel, I really enjoy riding it in the wet - possibly the only time I seem quite quick! Enjoy yours when it arrives 👍
Love my '15. Only added a Sargent seat, and 2" swept back risers to decrease the reach for comfort on longer rides. The stock seat always had me sliding forward into the tank.....ouch! Oh and a Z technic stream low shield for some improved wind protection without losing the good looks. Oops one other complaint the high beam lightning at night is poor. Otherwise perfect bike.
Got the 2019 model in June because they had crazy COVID-19 pricing. Best bike I've ever owned. Don't see myself changing at all perhaps for the next generation in a few years.
Excellent review. I have a 2017 from new, I must say.. its been very difficult trying to even think about getting a new bike. It may be a dated machine in terms of what's out there now but it still holds its own. It has everything you could possibly want a fraction of the price from some competitors.
I own a fully spec 2018 model and from my point of view the euro4 models are up to date still if you have all packages . I don't know what more features mankind would want only the analog display is datetd IMO
Fantastic video I have bought 2016 model same colour absolutely standard I love it just need to get out and ride it now stay safe looking forward to more videos 🇬🇧👍
Yea, the racks all say not to attach a topbox, maybe useful if you want to strap big bags on though I guess. The rest are soft bags and I’d just as sooner strap a roll bag on which can fit plenty in. Hepco and Becker do c-bow soft and hard panniers now too, but they’re both tiny, so may as well still use a cheap roll bag. I suppose it is basically a sportsbike, but I do wish BM would do a proper rack for a top box at least. Guess it wouldn’t sell enough.
@@thebearfacedbiker Funny...I have a topbox and am looking at getting a good waterproof 50-70 liter bag for the rack now instead for when I go camping.

Hi there, Great video and very informative review! May be looking at one of these for my next bike, please could i just ask what tank range / mpg you were getting as im trying to compare with an MT10. Thanks Sam
Thanks mate 👍 Easily 150 miles or so to a tank on a run or touring. I actually toured with a guy on an MT10 and he was always anxious about fuel a fair bit earlier than I 😂
@thebearfacedbiker Thanks for your reply, that is really good and especially for a 1000cc! I've got a street triple RS at the moment and get similar to a tank and like to do longer rides into the peak district/Yorkshire dales, so that was the main reason for asking. 👍Thanks Sam
After your close up on the levers i learnt two things 1 the clutch isn't reach adjustable And 2 they use a nissin master cylinder i assumed it was brembo. However doubt its a big deal as even though it not brembo people really compliment the stopping power so guess its no biggie.
Yes the power of the front is crazy strong. If anything it can feel a bit snatchy and some people change out the master cylinder, but I can’t remember what for. Anyway, to make it a bit softer in how the bite progresses and to give adjustment which the Nissin doesn’t have. The stock clutch lever has no adjustment, but I picked up some used HP levers since I made the vid and the clutch is adjustable on those. Plus they’re lovely!
@@thebearfacedbiker thank you for this additional information, yes admittedly I've seen a few people put the hp4 levers and rear sets on the single r. Also when you say hp do you mean hp4 or just hp?
@512460 i can vouch for the HP levers . Just tested and purchased a 2018 s1000r with hp levers. They feel really good natural feel to the clutch control unlike the original levers that have n extended reach and a bite point is a bit harsh. I have not compared with other aftermarket products.

It’s a Wunderlich Marathon. Pricey, but I picked one up second hand. Pretty sportsbike like, I found smaller screens left too much wind pressure on my chest and mid size ones gave so much turbulence I was deaf. This one’s alright!

Yes mate, I am servicing it tomorrow! Tbh I’ve never bothered trying a Gen 2 as all it has extra is down blipper. And I’m not that bothered about Gen 3. I’ll never be good enough to push the limits of the Gen 1 that I have, so why change it? It’s a bargain and I’ve never felt any need for more. Still love it!

I adjust according to the manual - get my wife to measure the sag while I sit on it and adjust to spec. Sounds like you need to increase the pre-load, which is about all you can do on these… I’ve only ever had a bit of wallowing loaded up with suspension set too soft…
I’ve had almost no problems. Horn went at last years MOT, disks are starting to show as ‘slight fluctuation’ on MOT, but still loads of life left on them. Starting to service myself this year and bought an OBD Link and Motoscan app. You can mail order service kits with OEM oil, filter and washer too from dealers, so will be cheaper now going forward. All in, no more expensive than running a street triple for consumables!
Sure. No real issues - replaced battery after a few years for lithium which is excellent and no probs. Front disks feel warped when they’re dirty, just clean and change fluid, back to perfect. 16000 miles and just replaced cush drive rubbers and rear pads. Just all consumables really, no issues!
Nice I was going to ask the cost of the valve clearance but remembered you're at 16k and it's required at 18k. Also when you say the service is £200 plus this is including parts a fluids right?
Yea, I live in imminent fear of the 18000 mile service cost! Bought an OBD link and serviced myself for the last few years which is very easy. BM annual varies between about £220-240 depending on air filter and brake fluid changes and that includes parts and labour.
It’s a Wunderlich marathon screen. Has two additional brackets which fit to the top yoke bolts. It’s pretty good, I’m 5’10 and it takes wind off my chest and part way up helmet I would say.

I think you have to try them both to know what’s best for you. 👍
Just a fair weather rider really but like the idea of being able to tour and go fast which I know you can do on both. Just a bit worried about what some people say about ktm build quality and reliability where as there is not a bad word to be said about bmw
I’d say S1KR for hooning and occasional touring every day of the week. A roll bag straps to the rear seat fine and I’ve been to the Alps on it. And yes, KTM build quality and dealer service is terrible in my experience!
Are you kidding me? I have driven more than 100,000 km on one motorcycle in 5 years. On the next one in half a year, your 10,000 miles. And I'm not making a video out of it as a "long-term" review. Wear at least 3-4 sets of tires and then make a video.
