I was meaning to ask you; what's the deal with removing the resonant heads on the toms? ive heard several drummers mention that it adds something to the tone/sustain, but I personally just think it looks cool lol

It adds more attack to the toms. It essentially removes all sustain allowing the drums to punch through the mix a little more.
