I wish I could personally thank Jim Morrison for showing me that life doesn't need to be so serious all the time. He's my favorite musician, and I don't know what my mental state would be without him and The Doors. Long live The Doors.

While other bands put on outfits, or makeup, or fireworks in order to convey that they were dangerous, when the doors played, you were seeing the real deal. They played from the depths. Each member had special skills, and they were completely fluid in setting the mood for, and with Jim. Their excellence lives on. Long live the doors.

I was listening to Crawling King Snake and I began singing Backdoor Man to myself. I can't believe this version actually exists with both, it's perfect.
I love those little dialogues he puts into his songs, its like he's talking to himself and at the same time paints a picture in my head. Like I can imagine some guy who is the "boss" who is talking to me.
I saw Robbie Krieger last Sept 2018. He played two hours of DOORS classics. It was great, his sound was still fantastic!!! He told some great stories about Jim and Ray and the Band....

His father was a Navy Commander smack in the middle of the Gulf Of Tonkin incident that started the Vietnam war. Imagine having that burden in that time.
When the Doors did Blues Covers it stood out. It wasn’t cheesy and soulless like many other white bands covering blues. The Doors were students of not only Delta Blues but of the marrow of that music the mysticism the spirit of it the real roots of it. They found the light and dark, the back pew the carnal release of it. They became a vessel that channeled those old blues ghosts. It was otherworldly and Jim And Ray knew it was bigger than them .

The Doors had a procedure for songs like this. The three instrumentalists would create what they called "the canvas" and Morrison would paint something on it. They were never quite sure what was coming, and I'm pretty sure Morrison often didn't either. I'm confident that in the early days, before the drugs and alcohol really got a hold over Morrison, that these performances were almost always fresh and exciting. Live at the Hollywood Bowl depicts the Doors in their element on this approach, and Morrison, although I think it likely he was doing LSD, was surreally articulate during that performance. I had the good fortune to see them in Louisville in October of 68, and they were truly fascinating.

My god, I think If I were Robby, Ray, or John I would have be a nervous wreck when Jim starts freestyling. Like, it's so awesome to hear how he fills the spaces, but how long do you let him do it for? Thats the beauty of the band I guess- they all know each other so well they can just be like "Alright, lets punch back into the song now". Amazing stuff

The first time I heard the album, LA Women, many years ago, I was mesmerized and listened to the album ( cassette tape )over and over on my Sony Walkman.
What a voice!! This version of Backdoor man is as amazing as Janis Joplin singing ball and chain at Monterey Pop festival, just epic!

Some vital music right here. That particular concert has a vibe to it that is undeniable. Of course musically they are on point... but with Jim in the zone too which wasnt always the case as time went on. Epic.
I saw the Doors open with song in early '67 in LA. Mindblowing.

It's interesting the way Jim answers with a not all too enthusiastic "all right". Sort of just resigned to his fate.
@@harryh.2464 I believe that . He was so real , under no illusions . when we in our 20's we dont think about getting old and dying . He did and went for it . I believe he lived everyday like it was his last .

@@Lord_Hillcrest I know you intend well but don't you judge this young persons thoughts. Are you God? Consciousness of life and death is what motivates me to live everyday and will hopefully do that for him too. We will all die. No one get's out of here alive. My son thought these things when only 10 as did I before him. as he became aware of time and losing loved ones. We talked about it. At 20 he is a beautiful caring young man. Most live in the dream nightmare of nothing. Let him awake from slumber and the living death that is the tragic norm. It is fear that crushes the soul.
