John densmores drumming is the only rock drumming I can consciously hear and pay close attention to. I don't know what he does different that allows me to hear him, but I really do enjoy it. Very melodic and sometimes hypotonic.
Do you know which exact cymbals Densmore used....and all sizes. I ask because I don't know exactly, but want to know. I heard that he used Paiste Formula 602, but don't know the details. Was it a 14" 602 Medium HiHat and 20" Medium ride? Which Crashes? A guy on RUclips said that in the early days he used Zildjians for sure, but didn't state which ones.
@Mr John D was often pretty vague on sizes but I know he used Z A with Gretch early on, first two albums, and when he got the Ludwig mod orange it was all Paiste 602’s with Paiste Sound Edge hi-hats 14”. At times he used 18” ride with rivets and later 20” ride with rivets with 16” and 18” crashes. Now one thing which is unusual is that other drummers have commented that he didn’t care about uniformity so could have been playing Z hi-hats with Paiste cymbals or vice versa but he was happy to mix them up. If you find anymore post back here.
@@misfit2022 thanks a lot for your detailed answer. Very interesting. I was recently trying to get more information about the gear Densmore used back in the 60ies, but I did not find out too much about the cymbals, you know really a lot. I thank you. All the best wishes.
Hola Angel.... el ride es zildjian k dark custom 22, el hihat paiste 602 modern essential 14...crash meinl amun 16 y otro crash zildjian k custom dark 18. gracias por la pregunta
