Hi guys! I'm glad a lot of you find this video useful. In the meantime there was an updated release - *PlugY 14.02* . The installation process is absolutely the same and there were no compatibility issues for me (in fact i moved from 10.02 to 14.01 and then to 14.02 without any issues with my 2+ year old character and stash files), just take the latest 14.02 zip file and follow the same steps. Hey KvotheD, i just returned to d2 after a hiatus, I got a new pc, do you know how I can play all my characters from my previous version on my current PC? I tried downloading d2 again on battlenet but its not even there, just d2 resurreciton.
You are the first person that is giving a shout out to plugy and its creator/s. When that other d2 Singleplayer RUclipsr was talking to the d2R devs some weeks ago and acted like he never heard of a shared stash before and acted all surprised. Not cool. I became a little mad He himself is using plugy alot on his streams
Hey man, to be fair it is not black and white situation. There are certain constraints when it comes to conversations with official developers, and it gets a bit political. So I totally understand going around this topics in the interview. Also, I think there were no shared stash developed for multiplayer(I heard that median-xl realized it somehow) so it is also true in a way. Bottom line - it's great we have plugy, and also good that some of the ideas are being reflected in remaster. Cheers!
Finally a guide I can follow and understand. I tried playing on Battlenet since I've heard about those special runewords and recipes, just to realize after a while my character will become non ladder so no recipes. I prefer to play in solo anyway because hell seems to be a fun and challenging run from what I've seen. As kid I never got that far and now revisiting D2 I want to beat the game with all chars, but with the nice comfy additions this mods adds like shared stash. Edit: Installation worked! For some reason my game is also now in English instead of previously German, I guess due to the Downloader of the Game and not my hard copy CD of the Game. Which is actually great at some point the German voice acting was just bad and Deckard was less iconic due to no proper "Stay a while and listen"
Thanks Bjoern! Glad to hear it all worked out. And yes ENG is due to the installer. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to switch language as i always played English :) And definitely it is very fun to beat Hell with all characters, especially if you use not the most cookie cutter builds for that - you can really enjoy slow playthrough experience. @@KvotheD Yeah English is fine, I just played in German since I had the old German CD's here. What freaked me out in DE version was that Deckard Cain in Act 5 had a new voice actor, but the old lines like Bleibt ein Weilchen und hört zu (stay a while and listen) stayed with old voice. So he speaks in two voices and both don't sound as good as the Elderly Deckard in the English Version. Thanks again, I'm really having fun, since I now can stash gems or runes or potions or whatever I find as I like. Always bothered me that tiny Vanilla chest and doing the math to figure how many hard points were put in the attributes.
Thank you! It should work for as long as life goes :D I believe PlugY won't receive any further updates and classic LoD as well. :) With loot filter and other additions it's a bit questionable due to updates.

Hey Andrew, loot filter can help to reduce clutter of items on the screen + adds notifications of some rare drops, you can see example in one of my drop highlight videos, e.g. here: ruclips.net/video/E4qT78sh07Y/видео.html 1.13c and 1.14d basically have no difference if you play single player. For Bnet you need latest version, i.e. 1.14d Further enhancements to my setup are here: ruclips.net/video/gow8KXrXpTI/видео.html
This could solve a problem for some people, unable to get plugy to start in 1.13c I did excactly as in this video, checking that you can create characters and stuff and that the correct patch is running. The original game updated to 1.13. But when I dowloaded plugy and started that, and it only starts in patch 1.12... Then I tried moving all of the 8 plugy files and folders that was in the "Plugy Mods" folder, and pasted them together with the original game files instead, and it works! So if anyone has any problems with plugy starting in 1.12, try moving the files to the file where the original game is installed. Hope this can help :-)

I believe D2SE keeps separate save folders for each mod you play, did you copy your save files into new D2 folder (not PlugY folder)? Thanks
@@KvotheD Yes, d2se save file in another folder (d2se/cores/1.13) And I have double checked that my save character is not in diablo 2 save file(users/d2/save) . Only in d2se folder (1.13) I copied the d2se save file and moved it to new d2 save file (d2/save) . But my character didn't appear If i run with old d2 +d2se 1.13 (drife f) everything run ok New d2 +plugy (drive c) also running well. I can make new char but i cant use my save file or my char didn't appear Note: i installed new d2 game base on this video instructions. So i have 2 d2 game in my pc. Not in same drive one in c another in f drive
hey weli rikardo, i think it has to do with the fact that registry entry of the D2 game still refers to the location of drive f. I suggest try this - rename your d2 se fodler install into e.g. "Diablo II - D2SE", then copy entire folder from drive c (the d2 + plugy one) and paste to the same location next to d2 se. Rename it to what was the name of the d2se installation folder and try launching. So my hypothesis is that when you launch plugy, it uses the game installation in d2se folder and not the new location, and therefore doesn't see save files. In my case i keep all d2 installs in one place, e.g. D:/games/Diablo II - LOD Plugy D:/games/Diablo II - PD2 D:/games/Diablo II - POD D:/games/Diablo II - Vanilla and each time i want to play one of them i rename it to "Diablo II".
Hey Kristoffer! There are two options: - you can use official blizzard website installer and setup plugy with it. In this case you will only be able to play plugy on it - you can install version from reddit link and upgrade it to 1.13c and then setup on top lootfilter, wide screen resolution etc So it depends if you want additional features or pure experience with just extended stash

Its the 1.14b version. Then I downloaded the Plugy 14.0.2 from the site. And unziped it in like you... created the shortcut. But it says that its not compatible. =/

How do u change the window size in pluggy14.01. Cos I get get a small window box if a add the -w. Or a a massive window that take up 75% of the screen off set on the LH side which I can't more ??
Hey Mark, i play with an original 800x600 window size, which is pretty small on the modern systems. You have a possibility to play full screen, but then you need to install glide. Plugy.ini won't help with changing size of the window, the only way i know is with ddraw.dll. I will make a separate video on it as they seem to have fixed the mouse jump bug recently. Hope it helps!
Hey, let's sort out few things first: - You used Legacy installer and your original Diablo version is 1.13c and launches well? - If yes, then you took the PlugY files from the original site (v14.02) and and put them into extra folder inside your diablo installation? - If yes, have you set up PlugY.exe with compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Run as Administrator? Especially the last one is important and may cause such error. Let me know!
@@twizzkwoq2779 Hm, so if original Game.exe launches well... perhaps try also adding compatibility mod to it and run as admin. Then, is your D2 LOD folder named correctly, e.g. as a in register?
@@twizzkwoq2779 Few other options: - Add Game.exe, Diablo.exe and Vidtest.exe to compatibility and Run as admin - Restart PC after just in case - Add this folder and the same exe files as above in DEP (explained here: www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/comments/b41gem/access_violation_c0000005_workaround_guide/) these are specificallty for slashdiablo, but the same applies to regular one too. Everything worked great, thank you! I wanted to organize a bit better and rename the Diablo II folder to "Diablo II - PlugY - BH 1.9.9" but it then says Game.exe not found. Is there anyway I can get around this? I changed it back to "Diablo II" for now.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words, glad it all worked! I also tried at first to keep them organized, but apparently Game Path is written in the register "\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II" and it is always a path where you installed the game. So it will always look up that folder to launch it. There is only one entry possible, so you cannot add there, e.g. path for PD2, path for LOD, path for BNET versions. I haven't found an easy way to overcome this, so for now i keep the version i want to play as "Diablo II" fodler name, and others with a suffix, e.g. "Diablo II - PD2". If you find a way to do it without D2SE - let me know! Thanks.
awesome guide, but quick question, how do you have multiple files/versions of the game without having them override each other? i would love to be able to play vanilla d2, along with PoD, and PD2, but having one file for the game prevents that
Hey Nick, i simply copied over 1.12b (legacy) installation folder and named it as the mods i want to play. When i want to play PD2, i rename that folder to Diablo II. If i'm itchy for some vanilla plugy action - then i rename PD2 one back to the labelled and Plugy one to Diablo II. For me that's the best way I found. I know people use D2SE but i have never used it so I wasn't eager to get into tinkering. Cheers

All you need to do is to make multiple copies of 1.12b or let's say 1.13c as this is the most used version, and then name them like this: D:\Games\Diablo II - PD2 D:\Games\Diablo II - Vanilla 1.14d D:\Games\Diablo II - PlugY LoD To install the mod and start playing, just rename it into this: D:\Games\Diablo II And then you can use a shortcut to launch PlugY for example. The reason for is is because it has a registry entry about the game path being you first installation folder: D:\Games\Diablo II If it doesn't match game won't find it where to launch. Also, when deciding to play another mod - make sure to rename fodlers again. PS this would be 5 seconds to show on the screen and 10 minutes to explain in words haha
Can you give an example? Generally PlugY uses the plugy ini file as it configures it, without it wouldn't work. If you want some extra things to be added to it (e.g. more mods) then i'm not really sure how to. I know how to add e.g. HD resolution and widescreen with lootfilter, but that's pretty much it
@@KvotheD Sometimes I play classic and I don't want the increased stash enabled (causes problems). So I'd like a shortcut to run with increased stash size, and another to run without. I was hoping I could pass Plugy a parameter in the "target" box of the shortcut's properties - like "...Plugy.exe -i regstash.ini"
Hm, in this case honestly i would recommend making a fresh classic install (or copy of your current install with disabled plugy), and rename folders depending of what you want to play - classic or lod plugy.
tried to reinstall but i have a problem: it starts in fullscreen with the screen itself only being in the middle while half of my screen isnt used, how can i fix that so my whole screen is used?
Hey, sorry if asking an obvious thing, but are you trying to launch full screen mode, not windowed? If so, it is quite impossible to do without either glide or ddraw setup. Glide works fine with vanilla and pretty easy to do, ddraw somehow has issues but i managed to make it work with nice upscale shaders. Let me know what interests you more :)
Thanks for the video. I was wondering if you could help me. I like to play with the window maximized. However every time I save and exit or create a new game, the window is reduced to the smaller size and I have to maximize the window every single time I save and exit and create a new game. Any ideas? Thank you
Yes it is possible to a certain extend. You will need Glide wrapper for this: ruclips.net/video/gow8KXrXpTI/видео.html I have a video that expands on the capabilities at that link. If you don't want loot filter etc - just skip it and use Glide only. In the glide wrapper go to "Setting > Static Size" and choose from one of the suggested ones. I just tested it and it keeps it at the requested size (sadly there is no windowed full screen borderless)
Hey i have a question, does the new plugy version (v14.03) works on 1.13c? And i downloaded the installer version. And i runned it and it works. Is that the only step on the Plugy 14.03 installer.exe or do u need to do more?
Hi Matt, i haven't researched technicalities, but i would say that before transfering you will likely need to remove everything from character's stash and most likely gear/inventory.
Hey Marianna, I had a look and found that it is indeed compatible with the PlugY. and seems super easy to install. Make sure to make a copy of your Save folder before! As usually - you will need 1.13c version of diablo (same as in this video), and then download the mod here: www.moddb.com/mods/enjoy-sp-mod then the instructions are pretty simple: "This mod is fully compatible with PlugY. In order to get them both to work you have to do the following steps: 1. Downgrade your Diablo to 1.13 (or any version you prefere which works with PlugY). 2. Install the Enjoy-SP Mod by moving the data folder into the PlugY Mod folder (not the original D2 folder!) 3. Use the PlugY shortcut or create one from the PlugY.exe and include the -direct -txt to the path target that leads to your PlugY folder. 4. I mean in plugy you can saw it when start the game or when you enter cus its different a bit but this mode only gives higher drop chance. Hi @Marianna, on the step 3, you basically need to do the same as i did when adding "-w" parameter, just add -direct -txt after. Althought, if i recall correct those are needed to create ladder runewords... so might not be required as plugy enables it by default. The easiest way to test the mod is by trying to fill in your tome of portals and ids - they increased it to 50: - Stack size of Books increased to 50 Hope it works!
How do you get 1.12? I can't understand what you said just then in the video. I'm trying to get lootfilter and hdres to work but I can't find a download older than 1.14b. I have tried using the old patch files to downgrade it but the game won't start when I do this (says the files are corrupt). Also tried D2SE but get same corrupt files message.

There you can choose full screen. On the other hand, you can try github.com/bolrog/d2dx This one should work with PlugY and it also makes animations 60fps which is huge improvement. Good luck!
Hey, Did you copy your save files from another version of D2? It is likely that character has something in the stash/inventory/equipped that is causing this. Try moving "naked" character either by using the version you had it on, or by using go-mule. Do you get any error message? thanks

Hm, could be due to different D2 version..try fresh install, just rename the current D2 folder to something else and follow the same process in the video. Hope it works out for you!
You need the legacy key i believe, the one that is 16 digits. Currently on Battle.net if you buy game there ou get new digital 26digit key that won't work. (eu.battle.net/support/en/article/30751) So, you either need to find your OLD CD key or, buy game again on other platforms that offer 16 digit key, i.e. old copy. Hope that helps!
@@KvotheD found out in your blizz account you can redeem you old 16 key for a 26 key. dusted off the old case and found the base game key. and now have that installed. have the LoD disk but not the key.
Hey Duazz, are you using PlugY shortcut? Try restarting PC. Did you install D2 versiobn 1.13c? Have you added PlugY files inside a new fodler in your D2 folder?
Hey when trying to download the patch for 1.13 I couldn't get it working it says cannot delete ouput file access is denied when trying to replace the files inside the diablo 2 folder. Now my d2se doesn't use plugY at all and I lost all my shared stash tabs. any clue how to just fix my d2se to use plugy again or at least get plugy to open in 1.13c? I lost months of work . god damn it i knew screwing around with files was a bad idea.
Hey dude, your shared stash should be in the save folder "_LOD_SharedStashSave" check it out and make a back up (always make back ups of your saves when doing anything with D2). I'm not sure what's the problem cause I never dealt with D2SE and the error you mention seem to be overall user/windows related rather than d2 stuff. I'd recommend taking save files out and re-installing whatever version/method of the game you want to play.
Hey SouthPaw, I actually have no clue. Never used d2 bots. If you are aiming for single player then why not just taking item pack? Or you have experimental interest in it?
Hi, I imagine it depends on which version of the game the character was made. if 1.14+ then you may get "bad inventory" error, in this case you need to remove all the items from stash/inventory/character and try again. Otherwise, if you made it with hero editor, i guess you can install PlugY and make another one?
Hey jazz palma, is your original install version less than 1.14? I had that error when I first tried to downgrade original battle net version. The way how 1.14 is setup nowadays is not possible to downgrade with the patch. In the description I have a 1.12 legacy installer, try using it. Let me know if it works!

Hm, try it on a separate install first. There sometimes issues with "Bad inventory" and people had to get rid of runewords on their characters.. If you just want to have PlugY without loot filter or HD res - then use 1.14d (plugy works with it too), otherwise do a separate install and try out. Good luck!

Hey man, did you have d2se installed? Have you installed d2 v 1.13c into separate folder, while any other d2 folder has different name? What I can think of is that you have d2se that is in your "main" d2 folder and hooked with the previous installation. Now as you tried to separately setup d2 with plugy, it refers to that prev installation. Try renaming folder with other d2 installs into for example" Diablo II - D2SE". Change name of the folder where you installed plugy to "Diablo II" and try launching. Reason is that your registry entry for d2 is tied to that folder path that you originally used.
Let me know if this works. Otherwise I would suggest either looking up D2SE instill guide for plugy(sorry I never used d2se),or remove all d2 installations (back up save/setting files first) and start from blank canvas with a fresh install.
@@KvotheD Yeah, I originally have D2SE installed for Plugy but at the same time renamed all files for Bnet and PD2 and Plugy separately. Sadly its giving me the same problem. Im going to backup files and do fresh install later. I'll let you know in some time. Thanks for the reply.
Okay, it turns out I am stupid. I didn't notice that I had a D2SE installer in one of my directories containing my other D2 folders. I deleted that and everything works. Thanks for the help regardless!
By installing this mod your save files are not going to be obsolete - it will all work fine without issues and you can continue from the same spot with your character
opening plugy says its missing some suitable "map" thingy? I have Installed DXD2(60fps mod) and an inventory increase mod, both of them are working no problem. I never seem to get PlugY to work. Been at this for a while now, can someone please help?
@@KvotheD Im sorry for the late reply, In my frustration I have messed up the game entirely and I have to re-download everything at a later time. also I would like to know if I needed that previous version of the game installed and on top of that the latest version? because I only have the latest patch on hand. I dont know where to get previous versions.
Hey no worries man! You can run PlugY on 1.14d version, but almost no other mod is viable on it. Since there are no real changes from 1.13c to 1.14d, i'd recommend installing the legacy version (there is a link in the description to download old installer!). To install game once again, just rename the folder where you installed latest patch.

Hey, by default diablo doesn't really want to launch fullscreen. So you would need either Glide or DDraw. I have video that shows how to setup glide here: ruclips.net/video/gow8KXrXpTI/видео.html you can install it without everything else, just check in the chapters for the right time
I was using PlugY 12.00 on 1.14d with GoMule and everything worked great together. I tried to update to PlugY 14.01 but it crashes after I select my character and try to load them in. Anyone have similar issues? Still works fine on 12.00 and even making a new character on 14.01 crashes it. Anyone else have the same issue or fix it?
Do you get any specific error or game just simply closes? Usually, this would be related to shared stash content and sometimes personal stash/ inventory data. Also plugy 12.00 wasn't official if i'm not wrong so there could be compatibility issues.. I would suggest: 1. Try not to use any save files and see if PlugY 14.01 works for you in general; if it does then 2. Try to taking the shared stash file out of the save folder and see if that will allow you to use your chras or create new ones. 3. Perhaps you will need to strip all the items with gomule and then start adding them and see what causes a crash. Otherwise, try to completely reinstall fresh diablo and fresh plugy and see if it works then. Hope it resolves!
@@KvotheD it just says unexpected error occurred. I was thinking next step would be to clear the stash, I'll give it a shot tonight and see if that works. But a fresh character made in 14.01 had the same results, so probably the shared stash
@@teeemm9456 Unexpected error doesn't sound good! You can try google the error code itself with diablo 2 for context, but normally it is happening due to game files not being right. The simple test would be to move your save files away and see if it works without any chars. At least this way you exculed a possiblity of a broken game files before you continue nitty gritty stash handling.
@@KvotheD Thanks for the help, I actually saw that 14.02 was out, downloaded that and ran it no problem after I deleted the stash file. Going to try to swap the old stash back in and see if it works, probably not, then I can at least offload the items and roll again. Side question - have you tried editing the .txt files with PLugY to tweak a few things? One the of the reasons I wanted to try the new one is, I couldn't get the 12.00 to read the txt files and it seemed like a known issue that was updated later.
@Toclebarry Finn, i haven't found clear information whether it works or not on 14.02, but give it a try with -direct -txt commands. To be honest, i haven't done this kind of modding myself (except for ladder runewords and color of runes waaaay back in the days), so i don't really know how that works :D
Hi Bruno, i haven't tried with 1.14d - did you create new folder "plugy mod" and unpacked entire zip archive in there? I suspect that folder "plugy mod\Plugy" needs to be in the D2 root directory, try moving it there. I might give a try and install plugy on 1.14d for testing - will let you know once i'm done
How do i permanently lock the mouse? If i tab out and in the game /lock is gone again. Theres no way im writing that every 5 minutes. I cant be the only one really annoyed by that lol :/

Hey Funnyimps, if you have all your PlugY files in one folder, you can try removing it and then unpacking a new zip PlugY into your D2 folder. If you want to stay risk free - make a copy of that D2 folder and experiment with one :D I haven't tried replacing, but if you try i would recommend making a copy first, back up save files, and back up plugy.ini file just to remember any settings that you might have changed there, to replicate in the newer version.

Hi guys! I'm glad a lot of you find this video useful. In the meantime there was an updated release - *PlugY 14.02* . The installation process is absolutely the same and there were no compatibility issues for me (in fact i moved from 10.02 to 14.01 and then to 14.02 without any issues with my 2+ year old character and stash files), just take the latest 14.02 zip file and follow the same steps. Hey man, to be fair it is not black and white situation. There are certain constraints when it comes to conversations with official developers, and it gets a bit political. So I totally understand going around this topics in the interview.
Also, I think there were no shared stash developed for multiplayer(I heard that median-xl realized it somehow) so it is also true in a way.
Bottom line - it's great we have plugy, and also good that some of the ideas are being reflected in remaster. Cheers!

Finally a guide I can follow and understand. I tried playing on Battlenet since I've heard about those special runewords and recipes, just to realize after a while my character will become non ladder so no recipes. I prefer to play in solo anyway because hell seems to be a fun and challenging run from what I've seen. As kid I never got that far and now revisiting D2 I want to beat the game with all chars, but with the nice comfy additions this mods adds like shared stash.
Edit: Installation worked! For some reason my game is also now in English instead of previously German, I guess due to the Downloader of the Game and not my hard copy CD of the Game. Which is actually great at some point the German voice acting was just bad and Deckard was less iconic due to no proper "Stay a while and listen"

I'm not sure if there is an easy way to switch language as i always played English :) And definitely it is very fun to beat Hell with all characters, especially if you use not the most cookie cutter builds for that - you can really enjoy slow playthrough experience. @@KvotheD Yeah English is fine, I just played in German since I had the old German CD's here. What freaked me out in DE version was that Deckard Cain in Act 5 had a new voice actor, but the old lines like Bleibt ein Weilchen und hört zu (stay a while and listen) stayed with old voice. So he speaks in two voices and both don't sound as good as the Elderly Deckard in the English Version.
Thanks again, I'm really having fun, since I now can stash gems or runes or potions or whatever I find as I like. Always bothered me that tiny Vanilla chest and doing the math to figure how many hard points were put in the attributes.

Hey Andrew, loot filter can help to reduce clutter of items on the screen + adds notifications of some rare drops, you can see example in one of my drop highlight videos, e.g. here: ruclips.net/video/E4qT78sh07Y/видео.html
1.13c and 1.14d basically have no difference if you play single player. For Bnet you need latest version, i.e. 1.14d

This could solve a problem for some people, unable to get plugy to start in 1.13c
I did excactly as in this video, checking that you can create characters and stuff and that the correct patch is running.
The original game updated to 1.13. But when I dowloaded plugy and started that, and it only starts in patch 1.12...
Then I tried moving all of the 8 plugy files and folders that was in the "Plugy Mods" folder, and pasted them together with the original game files instead, and it works!
So if anyone has any problems with plugy starting in 1.12, try moving the files to the file where the original game is installed.

And I have double checked that my save character is not in diablo 2 save file(users/d2/save) . Only in d2se folder (1.13) I copied the d2se save file and moved it to new d2 save file (d2/save) . But my character didn't appear
If i run with old d2 +d2se 1.13 (drife f) everything run ok
New d2 +plugy (drive c) also running well. I can make new char but i cant use my save file or my char didn't appear

hey weli rikardo, i think it has to do with the fact that registry entry of the D2 game still refers to the location of drive f. I suggest try this - rename your d2 se fodler install into e.g. "Diablo II - D2SE", then copy entire folder from drive c (the d2 + plugy one) and paste to the same location next to d2 se. Rename it to what was the name of the d2se installation folder and try launching.
So my hypothesis is that when you launch plugy, it uses the game installation in d2se folder and not the new location, and therefore doesn't see save files.
In my case i keep all d2 installs in one place, e.g.
D:/games/Diablo II - LOD Plugy
D:/games/Diablo II - PD2
D:/games/Diablo II - POD
D:/games/Diablo II - Vanilla
and each time i want to play one of them i rename it to "Diablo II".

Hey Kristoffer! There are two options:
- you can use official blizzard website installer and setup plugy with it. In this case you will only be able to play plugy on it
- you can install version from reddit link and upgrade it to 1.13c and then setup on top lootfilter, wide screen resolution etc
So it depends if you want additional features or pure experience with just extended stash

Hey Mark, i play with an original 800x600 window size, which is pretty small on the modern systems. You have a possibility to play full screen, but then you need to install glide.
Plugy.ini won't help with changing size of the window, the only way i know is with ddraw.dll. I will make a separate video on it as they seem to have fixed the mouse jump bug recently. Hope it helps!

Hey, let's sort out few things first:
- You used Legacy installer and your original Diablo version is 1.13c and launches well?
- If yes, then you took the PlugY files from the original site (v14.02) and and put them into extra folder inside your diablo installation?
- If yes, have you set up PlugY.exe with compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Run as Administrator?
Especially the last one is important and may cause such error. Let me know!

@@twizzkwoq2779 Hm, so if original Game.exe launches well... perhaps try also adding compatibility mod to it and run as admin. Then, is your D2 LOD folder named correctly, e.g. as a in register?

- Add Game.exe, Diablo.exe and Vidtest.exe to compatibility and Run as admin
- Restart PC after just in case
- Add this folder and the same exe files as above in DEP (explained here: www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/comments/b41gem/access_violation_c0000005_workaround_guide/) these are specificallty for slashdiablo, but the same applies to regular one too.

I wanted to organize a bit better and rename the Diablo II folder to "Diablo II - PlugY - BH 1.9.9" but it then says Game.exe not found. Is there anyway I can get around this? I changed it back to "Diablo II" for now.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words, glad it all worked!
I also tried at first to keep them organized, but apparently Game Path is written in the register "\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Blizzard Entertainment\Diablo II" and it is always a path where you installed the game. So it will always look up that folder to launch it. There is only one entry possible, so you cannot add there, e.g. path for PD2, path for LOD, path for BNET versions.
I haven't found an easy way to overcome this, so for now i keep the version i want to play as "Diablo II" fodler name, and others with a suffix, e.g. "Diablo II - PD2".

awesome guide, but quick question, how do you have multiple files/versions of the game without having them override each other? i would love to be able to play vanilla d2, along with PoD, and PD2, but having one file for the game prevents that
Hey Nick, i simply copied over 1.12b (legacy) installation folder and named it as the mods i want to play. When i want to play PD2, i rename that folder to Diablo II. If i'm itchy for some vanilla plugy action - then i rename PD2 one back to the labelled and Plugy one to Diablo II. For me that's the best way I found.
I know people use D2SE but i have never used it so I wasn't eager to get into tinkering. Cheers

Yes you can have both of them on your disk drive (I have even 4 :)).
All you need to do is to make multiple copies of 1.12b or let's say 1.13c as this is the most used version, and then name them like this:
D:\Games\Diablo II - PD2
D:\Games\Diablo II - Vanilla 1.14d
D:\Games\Diablo II - PlugY LoD
To install the mod and start playing, just rename it into this:
D:\Games\Diablo II
And then you can use a shortcut to launch PlugY for example.
The reason for is is because it has a registry entry about the game path being you first installation folder:
D:\Games\Diablo II
If it doesn't match game won't find it where to launch. Also, when deciding to play another mod - make sure to rename fodlers again.

Is there a way to specify which ini file to use in the shortcut? I want to be able to run D with different settings/configs.
Can you give an example? Generally PlugY uses the plugy ini file as it configures it, without it wouldn't work. If you want some extra things to be added to it (e.g. more mods) then i'm not really sure how to.
I know how to add e.g. HD resolution and widescreen with lootfilter, but that's pretty much it
@@KvotheD Sometimes I play classic and I don't want the increased stash enabled (causes problems). So I'd like a shortcut to run with increased stash size, and another to run without. I was hoping I could pass Plugy a parameter in the "target" box of the shortcut's properties - like "...Plugy.exe -i regstash.ini"
Hm, in this case honestly i would recommend making a fresh classic install (or copy of your current install with disabled plugy), and rename folders depending of what you want to play - classic or lod plugy.

Hey, sorry if asking an obvious thing, but are you trying to launch full screen mode, not windowed? If so, it is quite impossible to do without either glide or ddraw setup. Glide works fine with vanilla and pretty easy to do, ddraw somehow has issues but i managed to make it work with nice upscale shaders. Let me know what interests you more :)

Yes it is possible to a certain extend. You will need Glide wrapper for this: ruclips.net/video/gow8KXrXpTI/видео.html I have a video that expands on the capabilities at that link. If you don't want loot filter etc - just skip it and use Glide only.
In the glide wrapper go to "Setting > Static Size" and choose from one of the suggested ones. I just tested it and it keeps it at the requested size (sadly there is no windowed full screen borderless)

Hi Matt, i haven't researched technicalities, but i would say that before transfering you will likely need to remove everything from character's stash and most likely gear/inventory.

Hey Marianna, I had a look and found that it is indeed compatible with the PlugY. and seems super easy to install. Make sure to make a copy of your Save folder before! As usually - you will need 1.13c version of diablo (same as in this video), and then download the mod here: www.moddb.com/mods/enjoy-sp-mod
then the instructions are pretty simple:
"This mod is fully compatible with PlugY. In order to get them both to work you have to do the following steps:
1. Downgrade your Diablo to 1.13 (or any version you prefere which works with PlugY).
2. Install the Enjoy-SP Mod by moving the data folder into the PlugY Mod folder (not the original D2 folder!)
3. Use the PlugY shortcut or create one from the PlugY.exe and include the -direct -txt to the path target that leads to your PlugY folder.
4. Enjoy your Single Player Diablo II"

I mean in plugy you can saw it when start the game or when you enter cus its different a bit but this mode only gives higher drop chance. Hi @Marianna, on the step 3, you basically need to do the same as i did when adding "-w" parameter, just add -direct -txt after. Althought, if i recall correct those are needed to create ladder runewords... so might not be required as plugy enables it by default.
The easiest way to test the mod is by trying to fill in your tome of portals and ids - they increased it to 50:
- Stack size of Books increased to 50

How do you get 1.12? I can't understand what you said just then in the video. I'm trying to get lootfilter and hdres to work but I can't find a download older than 1.14b. I have tried using the old patch files to downgrade it but the game won't start when I do this (says the files are corrupt). Also tried D2SE but get same corrupt files message.

This one should work with PlugY and it also makes animations 60fps which is huge improvement.

Hey, Did you copy your save files from another version of D2? It is likely that character has something in the stash/inventory/equipped that is causing this. Try moving "naked" character either by using the version you had it on, or by using go-mule.

Hm, could be due to different D2 version..try fresh install, just rename the current D2 folder to something else and follow the same process in the video. Hope it works out for you!

No, plugy works on single player only. You are not allowed to play battle net with any modifications
Can't get any CD key to work with the install
You need the legacy key i believe, the one that is 16 digits. Currently on Battle.net if you buy game there ou get new digital 26digit key that won't work. (eu.battle.net/support/en/article/30751)
So, you either need to find your OLD CD key or, buy game again on other platforms that offer 16 digit key, i.e. old copy. Hope that helps!
@@KvotheD found out in your blizz account you can redeem you old 16 key for a 26 key. dusted off the old case and found the base game key. and now have that installed. have the LoD disk but not the key.

Hey when trying to download the patch for 1.13 I couldn't get it working it says cannot delete ouput file access is denied when trying to replace the files inside the diablo 2 folder. Now my d2se doesn't use plugY at all and I lost all my shared stash tabs. any clue how to just fix my d2se to use plugy again or at least get plugy to open in 1.13c? I lost months of work . god damn it i knew screwing around with files was a bad idea.
Hey dude, your shared stash should be in the save folder "_LOD_SharedStashSave" check it out and make a back up (always make back ups of your saves when doing anything with D2).
I'm not sure what's the problem cause I never dealt with D2SE and the error you mention seem to be overall user/windows related rather than d2 stuff.
I'd recommend taking save files out and re-installing whatever version/method of the game you want to play.

Hi, I imagine it depends on which version of the game the character was made. if 1.14+ then you may get "bad inventory" error, in this case you need to remove all the items from stash/inventory/character and try again. Otherwise, if you made it with hero editor, i guess you can install PlugY and make another one?

Hey jazz palma, is your original install version less than 1.14? I had that error when I first tried to downgrade original battle net version. The way how 1.14 is setup nowadays is not possible to downgrade with the patch.
In the description I have a 1.12 legacy installer, try using it. Let me know if it works!

Hm, try it on a separate install first. There sometimes issues with "Bad inventory" and people had to get rid of runewords on their characters.. If you just want to have PlugY without loot filter or HD res - then use 1.14d (plugy works with it too), otherwise do a separate install and try out. Good luck!

Hey man, did you have d2se installed? Have you installed d2 v 1.13c into separate folder, while any other d2 folder has different name?
What I can think of is that you have d2se that is in your "main" d2 folder and hooked with the previous installation. Now as you tried to separately setup d2 with plugy, it refers to that prev installation.
Try renaming folder with other d2 installs into for example" Diablo II - D2SE".
Change name of the folder where you installed plugy to "Diablo II" and try launching. Reason is that your registry entry for d2 is tied to that folder path that you originally used.
Let me know if this works. Otherwise I would suggest either looking up D2SE instill guide for plugy(sorry I never used d2se),or remove all d2 installations (back up save/setting files first) and start from blank canvas with a fresh install.

Okay, it turns out I am stupid. I didn't notice that I had a D2SE installer in one of my directories containing my other D2 folders. I deleted that and everything works. Thanks for the help regardless!

By installing this mod your save files are not going to be obsolete - it will all work fine without issues and you can continue from the same spot with your character

@@KvotheD Im sorry for the late reply, In my frustration I have messed up the game entirely and I have to re-download everything at a later time. also I would like to know if I needed that previous version of the game installed and on top of that the latest version? because I only have the latest patch on hand. I dont know where to get previous versions.

You can run PlugY on 1.14d version, but almost no other mod is viable on it. Since there are no real changes from 1.13c to 1.14d, i'd recommend installing the legacy version (there is a link in the description to download old installer!). To install game once again, just rename the folder where you installed latest patch.

Note that you both need to have the same game and PlugY version.
If you wish to play vanilla LoD - then Bnet is the easiest option i would say.

Hi! PlugY does not provide maphack or light radius, you probably have BH maphack/ lootfilter installed. In this case you need to look at file *BH_settings.cfg* and change following settings as below:

Now all works fine, I change BH_settings.cfg and download slashdiablo-maphack-master (copy_paste BH.dll) but need to restart my maps anyway (go nightmare-hell again)
I have gotten the 1.12 and upgraded to 1.13c but now when i try to open it it gives Unhandled Exception: Access_violation (c0000005) if you could help me with it thank you it goes throught the numbers and letters on the keyboard and then it does this

Did you update 1.12 to 1.13c with the patch in the first place? Plugy does not change versions anyhow, so I'm not sure how is that possible

Hey, by default diablo doesn't really want to launch fullscreen. So you would need either Glide or DDraw. I have video that shows how to setup glide here: ruclips.net/video/gow8KXrXpTI/видео.html

Still a great improvement to the game
I was using PlugY 12.00 on 1.14d with GoMule and everything worked great together. I tried to update to PlugY 14.01 but it crashes after I select my character and try to load them in. Anyone have similar issues? Still works fine on 12.00 and even making a new character on 14.01 crashes it. Anyone else have the same issue or fix it?
Do you get any specific error or game just simply closes? Usually, this would be related to shared stash content and sometimes personal stash/ inventory data.
Also plugy 12.00 wasn't official if i'm not wrong so there could be compatibility issues..
I would suggest:
1. Try not to use any save files and see if PlugY 14.01 works for you in general; if it does then
2. Try to taking the shared stash file out of the save folder and see if that will allow you to use your chras or create new ones.
3. Perhaps you will need to strip all the items with gomule and then start adding them and see what causes a crash.
Otherwise, try to completely reinstall fresh diablo and fresh plugy and see if it works then.

I was thinking next step would be to clear the stash, I'll give it a shot tonight and see if that works. But a fresh character made in 14.01 had the same results, so probably the shared stash
@@teeemm9456 Unexpected error doesn't sound good! You can try google the error code itself with diablo 2 for context, but normally it is happening due to game files not being right. The simple test would be to move your save files away and see if it works without any chars. At least this way you exculed a possiblity of a broken game files before you continue nitty gritty stash handling.
@@KvotheD Thanks for the help, I actually saw that 14.02 was out, downloaded that and ran it no problem after I deleted the stash file. Going to try to swap the old stash back in and see if it works, probably not, then I can at least offload the items and roll again.
Side question - have you tried editing the .txt files with PLugY to tweak a few things? One the of the reasons I wanted to try the new one is, I couldn't get the 12.00 to read the txt files and it seemed like a known issue that was updated later.
@Toclebarry Finn, i haven't found clear information whether it works or not on 14.02, but give it a try with -direct -txt commands. To be honest, i haven't done this kind of modding myself (except for ladder runewords and color of runes waaaay back in the days), so i don't really know how that works :D
PlugY 14.02 installed in LoD 1.14d. The game runs like there is no mod.
Hi Bruno, i haven't tried with 1.14d - did you create new folder "plugy mod" and unpacked entire zip archive in there?
I suspect that folder "plugy mod\Plugy" needs to be in the D2 root directory, try moving it there.
I might give a try and install plugy on 1.14d for testing - will let you know once i'm done
@@KvotheD Problem solved. When I installed the recommended file, it 'forgot' to put the plugy.dll inside the D2 main directory.

@@KvotheD BlizzardError выдаёт окно, пустое поле, снизу код из цифр и букв, окно говорит о том что произошло сбой в программе.
Версия игры у меня 1,14D пропатченная, русский язык, (правда пиратка) работает, хорошо, сохранения тоже все в порядке.

У меня есть подозрение что русская версия может не работать с плаги.

Hey Funnyimps, if you have all your PlugY files in one folder, you can try removing it and then unpacking a new zip PlugY into your D2 folder. If you want to stay risk free - make a copy of that D2 folder and experiment with one :D I haven't tried replacing, but if you try i would recommend making a copy first, back up save files, and back up plugy.ini file just to remember any settings that you might have changed there, to replicate in the newer version.

Hi man, no i would recommend not to have one installation for both purposes, better make 2 folders, one for plugy and one for bnet and keep it clean.
