3:41 - as a long time Frenzy barb, one small correction: Find Item doesn't give you, say 55%, chance to find an item. It gives a chance to treat a monster as if you killed it again. So if there are 11 council members and you have 55% hork, it will count as you would have killed 17.05 council members. Because there is a chance, that your hork will work (i.e: monster will be treated as killed), but you will roll NoDrop in which case nothing will drop, but that doesn't mean Find Item didn't work. And watch out for having cold dmg on you (like Raven Frost or even Reaper's Toll), because you will shatter the corpses and thus reduce your horking efficiency. Ideally, don't forget about having some FCR (Heart of the Oaks on switch, if you can afford them). Also, farming Trav online won't be as efficient as on single player, because a proper council positioning is the key, if they are scattered all around, it will make your runs really long. And also the best farming setting is p3, which cannot be used online, so you will lose some value. Did a lot of calcs and completed 3500 Trav runs :) //edit: Actually as per the latest data that I found + as per my test - Find Item either works on p7 or ignores NoDrop at all, which doesn't make a difference in Trav, because the Council members reach NoDrop=0 at p7, so horking is actually even more efficient :)
I'm making this barb and I'm still not even in act 3 Hell and I've already collected SO MUCH FUCKING GOLD just on the playthrough, not to mention legendaries; the champions that I "hork" usually drop 20-30k gold... It's so much fun and hilarious. Thank you so much for this idea hahaha. My girlfriend is playing as summon necro and basically carrying me, the shouts are great for the skeletons and the leap and war cry are great to manipulating the battlefield so her summons can hit the monsters more easily.

I hit 74 on my sorc... now I'm at a standstill because even when I get into game, I'm getting booted 100% of the time within 2 minutes. Wish they'd fix the server issues.
I've had total of 10 crashes to desktop, connection to servers can slow down to 20 years back but if I don't play on rush hours it's okay ish. 70+ on two chars and 30 ish on 3 chars

Start off with a druid, 5 to bird first, then add to wolves, then start adding to fire skills. Focus on fissure and the first fire skill. After you hit the mid 20s reset skillpoints, focusing 100% on fire, the first fire skill and fissure easy to farm early on.

Back in the original D2 LOD I named my character General Sixist and named my two 6 socketed swords and filled them with 12 ist runes for my find item barb. My buddy would say it was such a waste every time I pulled them out but I liked them.
This actually sounds like a fun build to play around with. Barb may be considered "weak" but personally, slapping things around with a giant two-handed axe feels as fucking GREAT in 2021 as it felt in 2001!
@@sabastianevans2656 That is the fault of the D2 1.10 patch creators. I can't believe it's been decades since they ruined the barb's 2hand weapon prowess, and still haven't fixed it. 2hand weapons need more life steal to work properly for a barb.

ive been saying this since day one. auto gold pickup + gamble button + when we discovered lack of realm down = craziness. It just goes to show you how one tweak can have a ripple effect and break the game. I am definitely planning on making a gold find barb asap to just gamble away
Yea, you can create 1 game per minute, ootherwise if you're too quick it will say something with server issues. But this build should still be viable (especially in the beginning) since a run will probably take over a minute, even with bis.
Personally I love using battle cry more. Lowers their defense and damage output. So my mercy clears trav by himself with ease. I gear my mercy up with Guardians Angel (Lem) for the lovely AR and Fire Res bonus, Crown of thieves with a cham, and ebotd war pike. He clears Trav in like 2 minutes and I just chill in the corner.
I tried the beta on ps5 and my god it does not play well on console. Not buggy or choppy but the controls especially for inventory are just horrible and tedious. Made me go hunt down a graphics card which I've been holding off on since over a year ago. 3080ti for D2R YOLO

@@cstarkey1989 it was horrible performance sadly. Even with below fcr BPs, teleing a little to quickly would completely dsync you. Which made it unplayable for me. I then switched over to pc and it was flawless and just beautiful.
The Runeword SMOKE is a great budget armor for a Merc (NefLum) rlvl 37 vs 41. Most notably it provides more resistance than Duriels Shell, and has some added defensive bonuses as well. Of course, you can Socket Duriels Shell.
After many different tries and combinations my best working setup for merc is : Crown of thieves (best eth) with CHAM if possible (cannot be frozen) ETH Reapers Toll (more LL = better) with SHAEL rune (Attack speed) Fortitude in Archonplate Merc A2 - BLESSED AIM - now he hits almost every time - can clear Travi with this build on Lvl 86 in such speed (depending on affix rolls), that i got ~ 5-10s timeout left to next game
Obedience and Duress are great budget equips for Trav barb/merc, but they both come with added cold damage which shatters corpses, reducing hork payout. Same with Reaper's Toll. Something is better than nothing, still getting that juicy loot. Just something to keep in mind
This build is weirdly fun to play. Relying on Emilio to kill is dicey and slow, yes (i've gotten so many physical immunes...) but there's just something about watching the entire council headbang in unison while Emilio literally 'kills it' :D You have my thanks for this build guide!
This looks fun. I've been wanting to build some kind of highly specialized farmer. What do you level up as and what level should you be before you spec to this build? I've never been that good at playing barb.
I noticed one issue w/ goldfinding in trav; the whole "enter durance, and exit, to reposition merc" strat... actually effs you up, because of the loading screens. The council members still cast hydras while you're loading, and you end up with so many in the room. So I think you're onto something with that teleport amulet tech.
you can find teleport on a bunch of items, most of my chars have a naj's puzzler right now, as I still can't afford enigma yet, yes it is a little expensive repairing the charges but gold is not something a gold find barb will ever worry about
Nice guide. Just one thing to tell for the budget version : you shouldn t put duress to ur mercenary, it s a mistake : it give some cold damage, which mean monster killed have a 20% change to burst in shards... so you cannot longer use "item find" skill on it

Yup, used to do this 20 years ago. Join a party, buff them up, let them and my merc do the heavy lifting and wait for them to move on to the next screen so I could mop up. Called it the 'Vulture Barb'. 👍
This ladder, I found an Ali Baba pretty early on my whirlwind barb, and later found Azurewrath off a terror zone Mephisto. I'm wielding them both at the same time, along with an IK helm I found, a Gheed's, 29% nagel ring, and a couple of mf charms. Goblin toe boots for crushing blow, raven frost ring, 29 res all amulet and Smoke runeword body armor for resists (until I get Chains of Honor), Dracul's grasp for life leech and open wounds, rare belt with faster hit recovery and dual resists (nothing special found for this slot yet). With this gear, I get a good balance of mf/gold find, without sacrificing killing power. The Azurewrath has magic and cold damage on it, so even physical immunes aren't a problem. Only limitations are it's not good for cows or wave 5 of Baal's throne.

Good video. I'm imagining a group of players dumping gold on the ground for 1 person to spam rings. 2.5million per stash tab, 10million dump. Each Travincal run is roughly about 600k-800k. 60 seconds runs. It's just a matter of time finding something good.
Can't wait to spam gamble lol. It's like the only way in this game to reliably target specific items, and the auto gold pickup and not needing to refresh gamble inventory is enough to give it a slight QOL improvement to get me pumped!
Imagine just one person sitting in a game gambling while another person continually runs Travincal in other games. Once they fill their stashes they return to the first game to dump the gold. Rinse repeat. You can farm gold almost as fast as you can spend it with proper gold find builds. So between 2 people you could theoretically sit and gamble items infinitely. Definitely an interesting thought...
for starters i will actually use a gold barb - typical farm "bone ash" (act 1) and "fire eye" (act 2) to get angelic set (with 2 rings) + chance guards + tarnhelm and then i do mephisto for 3 sigon (belt, boots and shield) - hope you can suggest this idea for beginners :) ... it will also serve as support char for my merc and other players in the party - max 1. find item, 2. shout, 3. batlle orders and 4. war cry (your idea, so thx !)
My favorite Hybrid was a hammer/smiter. I was mostly hammerdin for general farming but had just enough points in smiter skills to kill UBERs. Was just a matter of switching a few peices of gear. Love the Vids despite the dad jokes.

At least for killing 2nd wave magic immunes and maybe more efficient Baal killing and targeting Nihlathak with smite to prevent him from Corpse exploding. 23rd cant get here fast enough!
@@richardmenz3257 Fire/frozen orb is 100% capable albiet slow. I can see how Hammer/Zeal would be viable as concentration could lend itself to either hammer or Zeal since you max that anyway but keep in mind without maxing fanat you're in for a long Zeal lock animation where as smite always hits and you can Dip faster if shit gets crazy. I would also reconsider the Ice/lf because she is already hybrid by virtue of having Jabs physical Damage (a preq to LF syns). You can also use Magic arrow. (1 pt wonder) It does magic damage and like Hammers there are hardly any Magic immunes. Also unless you roll with a barb or change out your off hand every time you lose the switch for fast and ez BO. Another good choice for hybrid Zon is LF/Poison.
@@Jimzeefury have you tried a call to arms bow? It's not the best bow but still decent for a ice bow zon. That way you can play a hybrid and still get battle orders.
i think a real good budget setup would also be like. treachery (uses a Lem), obidience and gface on the merc, just for good kill speed duriel's shell is a great choice too or kiras or darksight on the helm. The merc benefits from all of your gold find. So you can just make him kill faster and worry less about putting additional gold find on him. Not sure if you discussed diminishing returns (gf vs mf) but there's a nice graph for that. I would add that if you're interested in finding good runeword bases you might not want MF at all.
I'm using Andariel with Real, Treachery and Obedience in eth. Thresher. Obedience needs to be at least 23all Res so Merc has 75% Res fire. If council cast spam hydra on him I just jump into it and soak it. Easy runs
I've been theorycrafting this build a bit and i think using a spellsteel unique bearded axe on your switch is an interesting option as it has both decrepify and teleport charges as well as 10 FCR. Sure youll lose some teleport speed and have a slightly lower level battle orders compared to using double hoto for example but in exchange you can use a weapon on your merc that does not have cold damage and it's easier to find a good amulet since it doesn't need teleport charges. Examples for your merc wep could be Eth Hone Sundan with shael and lem runes as the budget option and Breath of the dying as the expensive option.
I also thought about using the double swing skill with 2x rare phaseblades that has 5% chance to cast amp damage and swap back to your GF/MF weapons once it procs. Not sure if double swing and ctc works the way i imagine though. EDIT: Double lacerator and using double throw is interesting too due to having 33% chance to proc amp damage. EDIT2: Gavel of Pain with its amp charges are also worth considering, youre probably gonna need to refresh the charges every run though.

I'm using a different set up because I don't have all the gear that you have, but 1111% GF and 554% MF is good enough for me. I'm more of an MF barb so I decided to use war travs and shako.
Crazy all my years in D2 I never thought of some of these builds! So I was already working on a item find bard when I discovered gf barb, so I did a different take on this. I took 2 Ali Baba's lem'ed them and upgraded them to higher lvl weapons so I can do some damage and I use WW and double swing, also I upgraded my goldwrap and chance guards to higher quality armor, more important for wrap as you can hold more pots but also more armor. Build is great on NM. I do love the idea of being my mercs merc! I think I had that idea at least once back in the day!
I'm playing a frenzy with a might/concentrate merc using death/grief combo ias bug using amp damage (atma's) and it's very effective and fast. Once all clear I use my ali babas (LemLem) on switch to use find item. Very fun build. I did drop a SoJ in travincal this morning with this build.

11/10 on the dad jokes, absolute gold. As for the realm down issue, I'm still not entirely sure how that is going to pan out. I have suspected that it wasn't a thing because it was a beta test. I fear we may see something similar to realm down after retail launches. It's because of things like that that I always build my characters to do a little more than quick runs of certain areas. So while I definitely see the value of this build, I think I may go one step further and trade a bit of gold find for a bit more utility so I can also run Shenk/Eldridtch/Pindle/Meph as well per run just to be safe. I think that can be achieved with a few tweaks to the hybrid version of your build. Upgrading the Ali Baba's into Hydra Edge's for extra damage, and sacrificing some levels on Find Item for a Combat skill so I am not as reliant on the mercenary among a few other minor adjustments. Either way I see builds like this getting a lot of traction because of the other quality of life changes on their own. Auto gold pick up, the gambling refresh, "infinite" items on gambling screen and various other small changes are going to make builds like this amazingly nice.

I don't know if somebody have mentioned this already: Obedience and Duress are actually bad on any GF/MF Barb because of the Cold Damage (shatters corpses). At 9:41 you can clearly see that.
Yes. It has been mentioned. Cold damage is not ideal on a GF build, but many people over-estimate the effect that it has. It doesn't always shatter corpses and rarely ever ruins runs.
nice build, however the cheap version has a lot of flaws, ive tried obedience myself, merc has been continuously shattering corpses thus being unable to use find item on them, significantly slowing down gold gains. In my opinion the best combo on merc is eth breath of the dying war pike, as it gives massive damage and has a weapon range of 5 also combined with fortitude, which gives merc survivability and boosts damage even further. Although fortitude sometimes freezes the enemies and you can still see shattering now and then, the rate if fairly insignificant to your gains.

Natural res should be set to where you get 63 all res with BC. You only gain 4 more all res for like 11 more skill points. Don’t remember the exact numbers. Been a while.
There's also the option of taking lawbringer (AmnLemKo) + bo weapon into your offhand (Doubleswing), to trigger decrepify yourself (level 15) or - for the high end version - go with Brand (Jah Lo Mal Gul) in a low req. bow - you need to get hit to trigger a level 14 AD, which has a huge radius and long duration. you can also recycle that brand on a stormerdruid f.e. This way your Merc can take a setup with higher damage Output, more MF or even w/o cold damage (less corpses that explode) than Reapers Toll: Obedience for Raw damage and Res (unfort. with Cold); eth Tombreaver with lots of Res, MF and up to 3 sox (damage, EG, MF, more Speed, DS) - but again, it slays some corpses due to the ressurrect chance (10%); BotD for damage, leech and speed Also I'm not sure, whether WC/EG Skillers are really worth it, since you could easily just loot 2-5 35K Items instead, which should yield more gold than whatever 4x4 slots worth of EG charms would offer.
Been playing this a day or 2, and found metalgrid is the perfect amulet for the build. you are dropping items left and right and you can make an iron golem for an extra body of protection, I use naj staff on switch for tele
I made a similar Barbarian just for MF, Gold, and Act 1 and 2 key runs maybe 1-2 months ago Didn't go with Leap because I thought the stun from War Cry would be enough, so I poured a lot of my points into shout; Howl also helps to scare away minions on monster groups where I just want to kill the boss and hork their body He's got around 453 MF and max resist through Hell, and I usually just swap over 1 Wizardspike for an Ist'd/Lem'd Ali Baba on switch to keep max res at Trav 2x wizardspike topaz'd shako enigma 16 fcr amulet chance guards arachnid mesh sandstorm trek 2x soj SWAP 2x ali baba (2x lem, 2x ist) Merc: Eth Andariel's Visage Eth Fortitude Eth Insight
Very nice, im a huge fan of GF baba, but i just rather go with a hybrid singer, enigma, 2xHOTO+ arach + fcr rare ammy for 105fcr BP to weaken council, for the finishing blows on swap BeastZ + Rune Master full of Lems for the CBF and just make Chalan a complete beast with the fanaticism aura boost.
Just wanna say I got an eth 235% 14% reaper. Using ik Helm and gloves. Everything is to the t of this video. Without Lem in babas and not a full inventory I'm at 550 MF and 1500 GF without my merc so like 650/ 1800 with. Finding about 700k at most and random sub 100k but average 500k. Thanks for this! I don't warcry like at all. Just leap and it's amazing. Have warcry for the ability to stun Phys immune and lose aggro.
Do you have any issues with your merc dieing? I have 1600 def prudence. White cryptic axe obedience and a ML LL RES coronet and my merc is still dying during my leaps. I'm only level 82, did you have any issues at this level?
@@jaredekle2562 learning some interaction with the council helped more than anything. He rarely dies. What I've learned is Tele in the building even if they are outside. You can push most to the outside wall reducing incoming dmg. I use wisp and dwarf bc I tend to take alot of dmg from light enchant even with Max light res. If I see conviction I usually leave unless I can Tele stomp it. But no. If he dies I treat it like me dying and save and exit. If he dies its bc I didn't notice a wicked combo on the mobs that slapped him in 1 shot. If he dies I go grab a quick stack of 50k from one he already killed and buy him back.

Decent build and yes the leap tactic works just fine. Issue is I am also 100 % sure merc MF is broken. 1 week of leaping (with 430 mf) and nonstop councils for a handful of rares. I honestly think if you do not damage the mob your MF does not take into account. Much like getting credit for kills vs your pet getting it on MMO games. Have to dmg it for MF to work correctly, or last hit it. I know that is not intended but I am almost sure that is how its working.
Im also a huge fan of the hybrid mf / gf barb. This build and most guides are built around using the mercenary to do damage with barb doing crowd control. Personally, I found a WW barb to be much more efficient, where you could pretty easily handle up to 5 player trav. You prioritize kill speed a bit over gf/mf. Only real gear difference is running griefs/fort, then ali babas on switch, and using max/ar/gf charms. Have you ever tested this build?
Hard to argue with ye old Fisher-mancer build. Also MrLlamaMC's cold sorc tutorial is great. But frankly I much prefer offline play for farming - trading is nearly a requirement online and the shenanigans there are too much to deal with.
Is there like a higher chance to get the most desirable unique items through gambling than by just farming the top-tier areas of the game? Aside from that, I can't think of any reason gold find would be all that desirable.

Tbh this barb build is can also be budget friendly, you just have to swap out some gear and farm NM Trav/Pindle till you have plenty of MF

PSA: they quietly added find potion as a synergy for find item- %1 per lvl. makes it more efficient than find item after ten hardpoints.

This actually sounds like a fun build to play around with. Barb may be considered "weak" but personally, slapping things around with a giant two-handed axe feels as fucking GREAT in 2021 as it felt in 2001!

ive been saying this since day one. auto gold pickup + gamble button + when we discovered lack of realm down = craziness. It just goes to show you how one tweak can have a ripple effect and break the game. I am definitely planning on making a gold find barb asap to just gamble away

Personally I love using battle cry more. Lowers their defense and damage output. So my mercy clears trav by himself with ease. I gear my mercy up with Guardians Angel (Lem) for the lovely AR and Fire Res bonus, Crown of thieves with a cham, and ebotd war pike. He clears Trav in like 2 minutes and I just chill in the corner.

I tried the beta on ps5 and my god it does not play well on console. Not buggy or choppy but the controls especially for inventory are just horrible and tedious. Made me go hunt down a graphics card which I've been holding off on since over a year ago. 3080ti for D2R YOLO

@@cstarkey1989 it was horrible performance sadly. Even with below fcr BPs, teleing a little to quickly would completely dsync you. Which made it unplayable for me. I then switched over to pc and it was flawless and just beautiful.

yeah 1500 def prudence, obedience and a nice 7 LL ML helm and my merc gets fucking destroyed while leaping/warcry....dunno what im missing here

The Runeword SMOKE is a great budget armor for a Merc (NefLum) rlvl 37 vs 41. Most notably it provides more resistance than Duriels Shell, and has some added defensive bonuses as well. Of course, you can Socket Duriels Shell.

After many different tries and combinations my best working setup for merc is :
Crown of thieves (best eth) with CHAM if possible (cannot be frozen)
ETH Reapers Toll (more LL = better) with SHAEL rune (Attack speed)
Fortitude in Archonplate
Merc A2 - BLESSED AIM - now he hits almost every time - can clear Travi with this build on Lvl 86 in such speed (depending on affix rolls), that i got ~ 5-10s timeout left to next game
i'm wondering this Reapers Toll - got cold dmg so possible there will be no body for hork which is important too

Obedience and Duress are great budget equips for Trav barb/merc, but they both come with added cold damage which shatters corpses, reducing hork payout. Same with Reaper's Toll. Something is better than nothing, still getting that juicy loot. Just something to keep in mind

Relying on Emilio to kill is dicey and slow, yes (i've gotten so many physical immunes...) but there's just something about watching the entire council headbang in unison while Emilio literally 'kills it' :D

This looks fun. I've been wanting to build some kind of highly specialized farmer. What do you level up as and what level should you be before you spec to this build? I've never been that good at playing barb.
I noticed one issue w/ goldfinding in trav; the whole "enter durance, and exit, to reposition merc" strat... actually effs you up, because of the loading screens. The council members still cast hydras while you're loading, and you end up with so many in the room. So I think you're onto something with that teleport amulet tech.
you can find teleport on a bunch of items, most of my chars have a naj's puzzler right now, as I still can't afford enigma yet, yes it is a little expensive repairing the charges but gold is not something a gold find barb will ever worry about

Nice guide. Just one thing to tell for the budget version : you shouldn t put duress to ur mercenary, it s a mistake : it give some cold damage, which mean monster killed have a 20% change to burst in shards... so you cannot longer use "item find" skill on it

Yup, used to do this 20 years ago. Join a party, buff them up, let them and my merc do the heavy lifting and wait for them to move on to the next screen so I could mop up. Called it the 'Vulture Barb'. 👍
This ladder, I found an Ali Baba pretty early on my whirlwind barb, and later found Azurewrath off a terror zone Mephisto. I'm wielding them both at the same time, along with an IK helm I found, a Gheed's, 29% nagel ring, and a couple of mf charms. Goblin toe boots for crushing blow, raven frost ring, 29 res all amulet and Smoke runeword body armor for resists (until I get Chains of Honor), Dracul's grasp for life leech and open wounds, rare belt with faster hit recovery and dual resists (nothing special found for this slot yet). With this gear, I get a good balance of mf/gold find, without sacrificing killing power. The Azurewrath has magic and cold damage on it, so even physical immunes aren't a problem. Only limitations are it's not good for cows or wave 5 of Baal's throne.

Good video. I'm imagining a group of players dumping gold on the ground for 1 person to spam rings. 2.5million per stash tab, 10million dump. Each Travincal run is roughly about 600k-800k. 60 seconds runs. It's just a matter of time finding something good.
Can't wait to spam gamble lol. It's like the only way in this game to reliably target specific items, and the auto gold pickup and not needing to refresh gamble inventory is enough to give it a slight QOL improvement to get me pumped!
Imagine just one person sitting in a game gambling while another person continually runs Travincal in other games. Once they fill their stashes they return to the first game to dump the gold. Rinse repeat. You can farm gold almost as fast as you can spend it with proper gold find builds. So between 2 people you could theoretically sit and gamble items infinitely. Definitely an interesting thought...

for starters i will actually use a gold barb - typical farm "bone ash" (act 1) and "fire eye" (act 2) to get angelic set (with 2 rings) + chance guards + tarnhelm and then i do mephisto for 3 sigon (belt, boots and shield) - hope you can suggest this idea for beginners :) ... it will also serve as support char for my merc and other players in the party - max 1. find item, 2. shout, 3. batlle orders and 4. war cry (your idea, so thx !)

My favorite Hybrid was a hammer/smiter. I was mostly hammerdin for general farming but had just enough points in smiter skills to kill UBERs. Was just a matter of switching a few peices of gear. Love the Vids despite the dad jokes.

@@Coooley Hell yeah. It was also a great PVPer. Back when I played we called them Gadgetdins. As for farming I wonder if there is a good balance of gear/skills as to not have to switch any gear. At least for killing 2nd wave magic immunes and maybe more efficient Baal killing and targeting Nihlathak with smite to prevent him from Corpse exploding. 23rd cant get here fast enough!
I know I'ma make a icebow/lf zon , zeal/hammerdin , and fireball/frozen orb sorc. May not be the best hybrids but good enough and alot of fun.
@@richardmenz3257 Fire/frozen orb is 100% capable albiet slow. I can see how Hammer/Zeal would be viable as concentration could lend itself to either hammer or Zeal since you max that anyway but keep in mind without maxing fanat you're in for a long Zeal lock animation where as smite always hits and you can Dip faster if shit gets crazy. I would also reconsider the Ice/lf because she is already hybrid by virtue of having Jabs physical Damage (a preq to LF syns). You can also use Magic arrow. (1 pt wonder) It does magic damage and like Hammers there are hardly any Magic immunes. Also unless you roll with a barb or change out your off hand every time you lose the switch for fast and ez BO. Another good choice for hybrid Zon is LF/Poison.
@@Jimzeefury have you tried a call to arms bow? It's not the best bow but still decent for a ice bow zon. That way you can play a hybrid and still get battle orders.
i think a real good budget setup would also be like. treachery (uses a Lem), obidience and gface on the merc, just for good kill speed duriel's shell is a great choice too or kiras or darksight on the helm. The merc benefits from all of your gold find. So you can just make him kill faster and worry less about putting additional gold find on him. Not sure if you discussed diminishing returns (gf vs mf) but there's a nice graph for that. I would add that if you're interested in finding good runeword bases you might not want MF at all.
I'm using Andariel with Real, Treachery and Obedience in eth. Thresher. Obedience needs to be at least 23all Res so Merc has 75% Res fire. If council cast spam hydra on him I just jump into it and soak it. Easy runs
Given all the hysteria prior to release about gold finding and gambling breaking D2R, I think it has turned out pretty well in the end. :)
I've been theorycrafting this build a bit and i think using a spellsteel unique bearded axe on your switch is an interesting option as it has both decrepify and teleport charges as well as 10 FCR.
Sure youll lose some teleport speed and have a slightly lower level battle orders compared to using double hoto for example but in exchange you can use a weapon on your merc that does not have cold damage and it's easier to find a good amulet since it doesn't need teleport charges. Examples for your merc wep could be Eth Hone Sundan with shael and lem runes as the budget option and Breath of the dying as the expensive option.
I also thought about using the double swing skill with 2x rare phaseblades that has 5% chance to cast amp damage and swap back to your GF/MF weapons once it procs. Not sure if double swing and ctc works the way i imagine though.
EDIT: Double lacerator and using double throw is interesting too due to having 33% chance to proc amp damage.
EDIT2: Gavel of Pain with its amp charges are also worth considering, youre probably gonna need to refresh the charges every run though.
I imagine this will make 2/20 circlets a LOT cheaper than usual. Being able to spam buy them saves a lot of time. Theyre gonna be everywhere.

I'm using a different set up because I don't have all the gear that you have, but 1111% GF and 554% MF is good enough for me. I'm more of an MF barb so I decided to use war travs and shako.
Crazy all my years in D2 I never thought of some of these builds! So I was already working on a item find bard when I discovered gf barb, so I did a different take on this. I took 2 Ali Baba's lem'ed them and upgraded them to higher lvl weapons so I can do some damage and I use WW and double swing, also I upgraded my goldwrap and chance guards to higher quality armor, more important for wrap as you can hold more pots but also more armor. Build is great on NM. I do love the idea of being my mercs merc! I think I had that idea at least once back in the day!

I'm playing a frenzy with a might/concentrate merc using death/grief combo ias bug using amp damage (atma's) and it's very effective and fast. Once all clear I use my ali babas (LemLem) on switch to use find item. Very fun build. I did drop a SoJ in travincal this morning with this build.

As for the realm down issue, I'm still not entirely sure how that is going to pan out. I have suspected that it wasn't a thing because it was a beta test. I fear we may see something similar to realm down after retail launches. It's because of things like that that I always build my characters to do a little more than quick runs of certain areas. So while I definitely see the value of this build, I think I may go one step further and trade a bit of gold find for a bit more utility so I can also run Shenk/Eldridtch/Pindle/Meph as well per run just to be safe.
I think that can be achieved with a few tweaks to the hybrid version of your build. Upgrading the Ali Baba's into Hydra Edge's for extra damage, and sacrificing some levels on Find Item for a Combat skill so I am not as reliant on the mercenary among a few other minor adjustments. Either way I see builds like this getting a lot of traction because of the other quality of life changes on their own. Auto gold pick up, the gambling refresh, "infinite" items on gambling screen and various other small changes are going to make builds like this amazingly nice.

I don't know if somebody have mentioned this already: Obedience and Duress are actually bad on any GF/MF Barb because of the Cold Damage (shatters corpses). At 9:41 you can clearly see that.
Yes. It has been mentioned. Cold damage is not ideal on a GF build, but many people over-estimate the effect that it has. It doesn't always shatter corpses and rarely ever ruins runs.

nice build, however the cheap version has a lot of flaws, ive tried obedience myself, merc has been continuously shattering corpses thus being unable to use find item on them, significantly slowing down gold gains. In my opinion the best combo on merc is eth breath of the dying war pike, as it gives massive damage and has a weapon range of 5 also combined with fortitude, which gives merc survivability and boosts damage even further. Although fortitude sometimes freezes the enemies and you can still see shattering now and then, the rate if fairly insignificant to your gains.

Reaper's Toll doesn't seem to be a good merc weapon in this case, as the cold damage will shatter the corpse and you won't be able to hork it ??
Natural res should be set to where you get 63 all res with BC. You only gain 4 more all res for like 11 more skill points.

There's also the option of taking lawbringer (AmnLemKo) + bo weapon into your offhand (Doubleswing), to trigger decrepify yourself (level 15) or - for the high end version - go with Brand (Jah Lo Mal Gul) in a low req. bow - you need to get hit to trigger a level 14 AD, which has a huge radius and long duration. you can also recycle that brand on a stormerdruid f.e.
This way your Merc can take a setup with higher damage Output, more MF or even w/o cold damage (less corpses that explode) than Reapers Toll: Obedience for Raw damage and Res (unfort. with Cold); eth Tombreaver with lots of Res, MF and up to 3 sox (damage, EG, MF, more Speed, DS) - but again, it slays some corpses due to the ressurrect chance (10%); BotD for damage, leech and speed
Also I'm not sure, whether WC/EG Skillers are really worth it, since you could easily just loot 2-5 35K Items instead, which should yield more gold than whatever 4x4 slots worth of EG charms would offer.
I actually changed the plus 3 to warcry weapons for the gavel of pain, and the runs can go much faster overall....
Been playing this a day or 2, and found metalgrid is the perfect amulet for the build. you are dropping items left and right and you can make an iron golem for an extra body of protection, I use naj staff on switch for tele

Didn't go with Leap because I thought the stun from War Cry would be enough, so I poured a lot of my points into shout; Howl also helps to scare away minions on monster groups where I just want to kill the boss and hork their body
He's got around 453 MF and max resist through Hell, and I usually just swap over 1 Wizardspike for an Ist'd/Lem'd Ali Baba on switch to keep max res at Trav

Very nice, im a huge fan of GF baba, but i just rather go with a hybrid singer, enigma, 2xHOTO+ arach + fcr rare ammy for 105fcr BP to weaken council, for the finishing blows on swap BeastZ + Rune Master full of Lems for the CBF and just make Chalan a complete beast with the fanaticism aura boost.
Sounds fun! I used to build my GF barbs to be singers, as well. The damage can help make the runs faster, if that's your thing :D
I think there should be a rune word called “Lem” that is just six socketed Lem runes in a weapon that gives you X% extra gold per level. 😃

Just wanna say I got an eth 235% 14% reaper. Using ik Helm and gloves. Everything is to the t of this video. Without Lem in babas and not a full inventory I'm at 550 MF and 1500 GF without my merc so like 650/ 1800 with. Finding about 700k at most and random sub 100k but average 500k. Thanks for this! I don't warcry like at all. Just leap and it's amazing. Have warcry for the ability to stun Phys immune and lose aggro.
Do you have any issues with your merc dieing? I have 1600 def prudence. White cryptic axe obedience and a ML LL RES coronet and my merc is still dying during my leaps. I'm only level 82, did you have any issues at this level?
@@jaredekle2562 learning some interaction with the council helped more than anything. He rarely dies. What I've learned is Tele in the building even if they are outside. You can push most to the outside wall reducing incoming dmg. I use wisp and dwarf bc I tend to take alot of dmg from light enchant even with Max light res. If I see conviction I usually leave unless I can Tele stomp it. But no. If he dies I treat it like me dying and save and exit. If he dies its bc I didn't notice a wicked combo on the mobs that slapped him in 1 shot. If he dies I go grab a quick stack of 50k from one he already killed and buy him back.
@@jaredekle2562 also I swapped to an eth CV obedience and it works great. Like 970 dmg. Decrep is missed but he still survives without extra LL

Decent build and yes the leap tactic works just fine. Issue is I am also 100 % sure merc MF is broken. 1 week of leaping (with 430 mf) and nonstop councils for a handful of rares. I honestly think if you do not damage the mob your MF does not take into account. Much like getting credit for kills vs your pet getting it on MMO games. Have to dmg it for MF to work correctly, or last hit it. I know that is not intended but I am almost sure that is how its working.

Im also a huge fan of the hybrid mf / gf barb. This build and most guides are built around using the mercenary to do damage with barb doing crowd control. Personally, I found a WW barb to be much more efficient, where you could pretty easily handle up to 5 player trav. You prioritize kill speed a bit over gf/mf. Only real gear difference is running griefs/fort, then ali babas on switch, and using max/ar/gf charms. Have you ever tested this build?
Hard to argue with ye old Fisher-mancer build. Also MrLlamaMC's cold sorc tutorial is great. But frankly I much prefer offline play for farming - trading is nearly a requirement online and the shenanigans there are too much to deal with.
Would be cool to see a video on items to make sure you identify / don't leave on the ground (if you haven't done this already)
Is there like a higher chance to get the most desirable unique items through gambling than by just farming the top-tier areas of the game? Aside from that, I can't think of any reason gold find would be all that desirable.
that gambling update is important imo, would realllly like it for Diablo 1 HD as well.
This hybrid build is so cool. I'm already leveling up my barb. This will be my late late late late late game goal.
Cool video. My first char always a sorc with orb and meteor or firewall. Meteor. Works very well for d key runs and with very little gear on your merc. Can rush hell as well. It's been the most legit efficient first hero I've ever made
