Decided to plasti dip my Toyota emblems. It's a quick mod that's pretty easy and cheap. How long does the plastic dip last? I have done this mod on my 2017 Tacoma emblems and so far the past 4 years it hasn't had any issue. I even plastic dip my metal bumpers and it's been almost 3 years. As you can see it has last for a long time. Let me know what you think.

I read that plasti is best with 6-7 coats. More durable AND easier to peel off if needed. Great video and thanks for making this.
I was lucky my truck came with black emblems from factory 😊
maybe you could spray some glossifier on them. That’s what i would do depending on the color of the truck.
If done right plastidip is a cheap inexpensive way to protect your car and also will last a long time.. Mine lasted 6 years and hardly any pealing. Just need to touch up and you're good..
HUGE TIP: Before you spray put the can in a bowl/bucket with hot water for 20 minutes prior for it to come out smooth and even.. It truly makes a big difference because my first few wheels I didn't and then watched a few videos and did the others and was happy I did.
That's a great tip. Most of the things I've plasti dip has lasted for years. Really cheap mod to black out things on car or truck.
Dont put the tape so close to the emblems. It will give you more to hold on to when youre peeling the excess off. ALWAYS pull up and away from the edge of the emblem and the Plastidip will break off at the edge just like you want it to.
Thank you! Just did mine recently and wondered why it wouldn’t tear at the end
He said that in the video
Amazon sells the black out lettering also. Great work though.
Thanks
This guy is cheap😂
I wouldn’t say he’s cheap.
I have a leased vehicle
So I did the emblems / like this / so when I return the vehicle I can peel it off and return it without being charged for changing the emblems.
So he’s not cheap/ he’s smart.
The cost of one can / vs- buying the emblems shows me he’s smart … just sayin 👍🏼
Yeah, they peel off too easy, and the edges don't stay put.
For two blacked out GMC badges and a blacked out Sierra badge it's 150 to 180 bucks. Vs 15 to 20 and they look identical. Easy decision. Just bought some plasti dip today
Wonder if this stuff can be used on the undercarriage
It DOES last but it won't look good! My black grill is hanging on for dear life, it's chipped and faded, even using the latest ultra gloss or whatever it's called. Wheels still have some gloss but have tears.
please send a link for this model you used
Hey Mike do you think it's strong enough to paint some stepping stones?
Not sure...I've only done it on aluminum
Boa tarde!
Aonde achar o plasti dip, pois não achei pra comprar alguém sabe ?
Du ma look good dawk
How long did i take the whole process of spraying the emblems?
Usually around 5-15 minutes...depending how many coat you want on it.
You can use fishing line and wedge it under the emblem to slowly slide back and forth to remove the adhesive and remove emblem from car.
After this, paint the emblem and use emblem adhesive to stick it back in place. Way cleaner result.
Will it peel of when I wash my car?
Haven't for me the past 5 years
No mine lasted for 5 years I got rid of the car now
@@Michael_Tran was that using a jet wash
How is it on glass ....im thinking of doing a sunscreen visor
It will work like a charm! You wil have to clean really well the area, lay 6 to 8 "heavy" coats and most importantly peel of the tape when the last coat is wet to have a sharp line.
@@tibotibo6 brilliant , thanks buddy ...I'll sort it this weekend
@@al-masihad-dajjal4565you're welcome, mate! Also, avoid wind, rain and wear a mask while spraying. It's easy to use, but you should watch some good tutorials if it's your first time. Please keep me informed and have fun!
Hmm, it appears you left some of the plasti in between the letters/numbers. Come on now, you got to git rid of that bro. Otherwise it’s like leaving food/meat pieces hanging in between your teeth and when you smile people will get grossed out.
Nope got it all...just didn't show it on the video
@@Michael_Tran - I stand corrected.
@@meangreen7389 chill out it ain’t that deep🤣
@@mrluistito2529 - You obviously don’t know what levity is or what it means. You’re the one who needs the chill pill. 🤣
I mean it seems like a ton of work taping it off, I got a full kit and tailgate insert for like $35. I suppose this is a way but I value my time a bit more than that! Also you can't really do this on the tailgate as there is nothing to spray. If your doing just the emblems I would personally just buy the kit for $15-$20 and be done in mintues and if you ever wanted to go back it's simple. You know some kid is going to have some black spray PAINT and do this with a ton of overspray that he won't notice before it's too late 😂
A ton of work masking? It would have taken him about 15 seconds... Its just 4 strips of tape to box around the emblem
@@stacks_producernotice all the overspray and all the "cleanup" work thst in reality took him prob 20 Mins per side. For the price of the can of plastic dip.... Your better off with just buying a perfect molder cover that littlery cost like $10-$15 bucks? Spend 40+k on a truck and goofs like to be penny pinnchers on shit like this 😂 not sayings it's wrong but just seems a bit silly
@J Mabs509 Yea mate I agree it's the cheapo way of doing things tbf, especially on a nice truck 😂 But it can also be done cleanly with about 3 minutes prep work if done properly. We done some badges on a friend's old astra few years back, just a bit of tape, some dust sheet cut-offs, and couple of beers 😂
@jmabs5096 It works well when there is no cap/maskover available. Bought an expensive suv with chrome parts that didn't have any any matte options. Took 5 minutes to tape and about the same to coat. Looks perfect and took no time. The overspray literally wipes off easier than dust.
And if some kid is doing this without using the proper materials then he probably shouldn't be painting a car.
@@jmabs5096might seem silly because you’re too close minded.
Looks like sheeet. IMO
Lol. Who asked
@@santan546literally ended the vid with “let me know what you guys think”
How just looks like a black emblem.
@@santan546 asked at the end you idiot, that’s who!!!
Did you use matte or glossy black for the emblems?
Matte
