Looks awesome man! It costs $1,300 for Dodge’s “blacktop” package just to get blacked out wheels/emblems from the factory. Instead, I spent $21 for three cans of plasti-dip and got the same look on my 2021 Charger. Very pleased with the results.
Thanks so much for showing your struggles with it as opposed to only showing the parts where it “worked perfectly” like so many other you tubers do. Great vid. Very informative and helpful. First time on this channel. Need to check it out. Thanks again!
I actually bought the OEM black Ridgeline badges for the rear of my white 19 Sport, and had Honda do the installs. Man, I could have saved hundreds of dollars by going with this method. But it's never too late. I've got my eye on those chrome rails on the back and front grille. Thanks for posting this.
@@FrankPapadakis None of that really matters with a small application like this. And if you’re that insecure about saving money then you might want to check the mirror.
I used plasti dip on my subarus wheels about 2 years ago and barely have any peeling. I've even had my tires changed since then. Now I'm using it on my emblems and its also held up great!
I did it and it turned out pretty good! You're so right, it seems counterintuitive but you do want your over sprayed area to be a little wider so you can grab it with two hands. That way it's easier to peel off.
I watched a lot of good vids but yours is better. I like how you mention the over spray and how you mention the best way to pull it off. Thanks for making this vid. 👍👍
HUGE THANKYOU for this video. I own a 2023 Buick Envision ST. Its black on black but ALL the emblems are chrome. It's a small fortune to get them swapped to black. This is a wonderful idea I'd never thought of. Thankyou.
I just did this on my friends brand new 4Runner a few days ago, then I watched this video. From my experience, I agree with over spraying onto the panel. Had I done it, I wouldn't have been there for an hour peeling.
Yes, agreed, GREAT video sir. So start peeling it all off the body parts in about 3 minutes after the final coat? The whole time I was wondering how the product "knew" to break at the point of the emblem so cleanly.
I definitely have to try it on our transit. I did not know, that it’s cutting itself that perfectly. Used plasti dip for rims before, but never thought about using it like that. Thanks for the inspiration.
This blows my mind lol! I got the black badges worked in the deal when I purchased my Civic but I will definitely give this a try on my wife’s Highlander. Great video & instructions!
Great video! I did the same with my Acura TL winter rims. Works very well. It's starting to peel now, but it's only winter rims so I am not to worried. I'll just apply another round for next year.
@@nacuda9 I personally have not run my car through the car wash. But it does seem to hold up to pressure washing at home. But I didn't hold the it to long in one spot. I do have some some pealing on the edges, but that was from my wife curbbing my rims when she took it out one day..lol

This is an awesome way to add a bit of a custom look to the vehicle. Will be picking up some Plasti-Dip. Did you use a razor or something to cut out the letters after you finished spraying it? Because it peeled off perfectly. Also, do you know if this can be used to protthe undercarriage from water/ salt to prevent rust?
I grew up in the late 50's and the 60's and my main complaints about vehicles from late 70's to nowadays and that's not any to very little Chrome. The more chrome the better. However I think your process is sound and to use a technical really neat. I have other projects that I can use this on.
Thank you. I think chrome is for a specific type of vehicle. A classic most definitely has to have chrome. A modern vehicle however, in my opinion, does not. The styles collide. There is a paradigm shift in the vehicles designs and tastes in the generation.
Great work. How is the Hyper holding up? I used that product on 4 truck wheels and is doing great. Great results all about preparation. One can do all? Better than purchasing new black emblems removal and install
@@YuriyMotso Good to hear. You do an outstanding informational video job I am a new Ridgeline owner. Excited. I will look for the pressure washer video. Thanks
I just removed them sanded primed and painted them cause I wanted colors plasti dip does not offer like dark metallic gray, on my white car looks awesome. Some fishing line to remove and wd40 to get off glue athen sand and paint, they clear silicone rtv to reinstall cheap easy and get any color you want and it lasts
Very nice. How long did you let it dry before peeling off? And you said you wished you use more so I'm curious how many coats you think are adequate? Thanks
Honestly plastidip is much easier than wrapping. However if it’s a large surface area you could end up with some overspray or uneven coatings if you are not experienced. The vinyl has its own issues as well. Overall great finish but more difficult, time consuming and you could get wrinkles if you don’t handle the material properly. Now I have done both and because my plastidip is on the rear of the truck it’s not exposed to the same torrential weathering like the vinyl does. That being said the vinyl is still in excellent shape. Looks same as the day I installed it. No fading or peeling. I’ll maybe have to do a follow up video for you guys so you can see it up close and personal. So preference really goes down to how much time and effort you want to put into your piece. The quality comes down how well you can apply the material so both will look good if you do it right. Today I might go with plastidip first and if that failed vinyl. You can buy plastidip on matte, semi and high gloss finishes. So if you like that glossy black interior trim on the rtle and black edition ridgelines then that would be the route to go.
Sorry, I’m confused: why does the plastidip peel off the paint so easily, yet sick to the emblem letters so well? Did you prime the letters to promote adhesion? (I tried googling, but couldn’t find the answer)
Why does the Plasti Dip remain on the emblem as you are pulling it away? As I'm watching you pull, I thought it would pull off of the emblem the same way that it is pulling off of the body panel. Would someone comment on this. It is a nice effect.
It’s most likely because the emblem is raised off the vehicle slightly so when you spray there is a small gap that is thinner than the rest. When you tear it away that area acts as a weak spot and tears there. My guess at least.
Actually I have done both already. I can’t go into regular car washes because of the ditch lights so I use touch less and there are no issues with that so far. On days when I wash at home I use my 2700psi greenworks pressure washer and shoot it point blank. No issues either
So am I to understand that PLASTIDIP will only adhere to a CHROME finish? Also, the adhesion to the emblem is long lasting or does it begin to come off a year after?
It will adhere to any surface once the surface has been cleaned. Because there is a gap between the body of the vehicle and the emblem, it’s a breaking point for the weak bond of material in that area when not fully cured. So it breaks at that location. Once cured it lasts long assuming no nicks and dings. Mine is going on two years with no change to its appearance.
Did you not have to take a blade and trim around the letters? I didn't see you do that on the video. It appeared that you just pulled the plasti-dip off and it miraculously stayed on the lettering. Please advise...

A quick question, how does it hold up to washings, weather, and normal wear and tear, months, years, weeks?
How well does this stuff adhere when using a car wash or pressure spray? .. or is it gentle hsnd wash forever after?
