    I loved the Air Zoom Victory for the 800m. Anything longer than that though I would switch shoes. If you mainly run the 800m though I would highly recommend them. When I had about 300m's left I would just go all out and the spikes would help keep me at my top speed longer than I would otherwise. It was still painful they just helped me force more pain out of myself. Once race I started blacking out with about 150m's left, but the spikes kept me maintaining the same pace.

      Ha! You are reminding me how painful that 800 race is-----especially the last 150-200 meters! Mind over matter at that point.

      @@robinbauer1975 Yeah I've seen kids wear them for the 2 mile during high school and I can only imagine the calf pain. Personally I think you could get away with wearing them in any race 3k and below, but wearing them for a 10k is crazy.

      @@diizzya1343well I have run a 3000m in them and if felt awesome while the race. And then three days after the race I had extreme calf pain and I run 100km per week and then 140km in base training and then three to 6 weeks in training camp 150-179km per week still my calf felt really bad after the race

    Literally exact same thoughts about air zoom victory. Good for start of race, but when legs tired it is extremely hard to continue running fast in them as on toes, compared to dragonfly.

    Dragonfly is just OP to me, the fact that you can use them anywhere between an 800 to a 10K, for someone who does 800-3200 during track season and then also does xc theyre awesome

      @Trackstaa_  Год назад +2

    I've only got the Nike ones as don't believe any of the others are available in my size (UK 13). I think there is also a factor of ability here. When I did some 400m reps the Air Zoom Victory I thought was faster but, as you imply, it really throws you forward and as soon as get tired just feels unnatural. So even for an 800 I prefer the Dragonfly. As a 55 year old the Dragonfly also has actually allowed me to race long track races in spikes full stop as "technically" nothing else is really legal anyway. I even did a 10000 the other day and could run fine the day after. Would not have said that about the spikes I wore about 20 years ago for the same event but at least it was over quicker :) I wish could roll back the years and try these spikes when I did my main 800/1500 PBs 30 years ago. If you look at the times done now to then the middle distances aren't that different - there just seems more men that say can run around 3:30 or women 4:00 these days but I might argue the 800 has stagnated in recent years and likes of Coe & Cruz look even better now than they did then. Kind of similar at 5000 & 10000 - just more depth and the times especially in the men barely better than Bekele did 20 years ago so amazing he is still going.

    • @Trackstaa_

      Yep super spikes are a weird one because some aren’t that super. And really I’m unsure where the benefit lies in terms of saving the legs for reducing injury risk and improving recovery or actually directly taking seconds off on race day

    • @TimGrose
      @TimGrose 2 года назад

      @@Trackstaa_ I guess we need to redefine the word "super" in shoes both on the road & track. Charging a lot for a shoe and/or making them almost impossible to buy isn't necessarily "super" for performance and probably why majority of us opt for the Vaporfly or Dragonfly as a matter of choice for racing and then it is largely back now down to ability as ever. In my track 10000 race at "grass roots" masters level everybody bar one wearing spikes were in Dragonflys.

    I switched over to Maxflys as a replacement to the zoom victory for the 600-800m. It was way more stable than the victories, depending on form Maxflys and dragonflys are ahead of victory

    • @Trackstaa_

      Yep. Both are supposed to be the best spikes on the market. I’ve felt the On 10K spike and in hand it feels phenomenal

    • @jkhoudini
      @jkhoudini Год назад

      Update: got the NB LD-X, not convinced it’s better than the dragonfly. The extra cushioning is nice maybe for a 10k overall, but the fit is a bit sloppy, and with such a stiff plate the heel slip is exacerbated (the LDX is more rigid than the MDX in my hands). They also feel pretty tall off the track, and when the race inevitably comes down to a kick, that extra height leaves you feeling a bit disconnected to the track. The dragonfly still feels much more confidence inspiring. I’m probably going to use it only as a training spike for the cushioning and when I don’t need to aggressively “shift gears”.
      Im hoping the LDX plate will break in more to mitigate the fit problem. Now if only On can release the cloud spike 10k eventually, but from the On guys’ podcast, they’re already testing the new versions and some might have raced Millrose in updated versions.
