Interesting about non-sleep deep rest. It must be true as I'm pretty sure I'm not actually asleep for at least 6of my 8 hours a night - yet I'm still alive...
But how does this reconsile with the opposite advice of "Don't stay in bed if you can't sleep after 15 mins - get up and do something relaxing, then go to bed when tired again". The thought of doing that seems painful to me and I bet I'd be up and down the whole night. NSDR seems more realistic, but is the opposite advice you given yourself.

I have insomnia and it’s because I have ADHD, anxiety, depression and cerebral palsy, alongside autism! And it’s driving me crazy because my mind doesn’t want to shut off when I want to go to sleep. And it’s frustrating because I can’t just use homeopathic remedies to calm down my brain. I wish that I could have a better medicine for my insomnia alongside a way to calm down my brain because ADHD gets in the way while I’m trying to relax to go to sleep. I’m a wolf chronotype and I really don’t know what to do.

Oh, it works. Yoga Nidra do it and then come back and tell me you don't buy it. I crave it just don't have the time to do it daily but I would if I could.

@@dunavind "If you lie in bed in the dark while it's quiet not asleep it's actually rejuvenatve. If you lie there for an hour it's worth about 15 or 20 minutes of sleep, just lying there and relaxing." Direct quote. That's not yoga nidra, is it?

@@lauranelson1119 No, that's not yoga nidra but I do it in bed sometimes. Yoga nidra is when you are still the entire time, you do not move a at all for the entire session, you use breathing and guided meditation to get in a state of relaxation that is the most awesome experience. Try it for 20 mins, just search on RUclips. 20 min's is like 2 hours of sleep.

That breathing method only serves to leave me gasping for breath! Too much exhale = lungs begging for more than a 4-count inhale. Sorry, that doesn't work!

You could try tweaking the timings, like increasing the inhale duration to get more oxygen.
