My favorite teachings of all time. I've come back to the Tao de Ching so many times and every time I find wisdom that is either new or has been forgotten. It has such a way of reminding me not to get caught up in my own story and beliefs too deeply. Even the opening lines remind me that whatever story or path I think my life is going down, it just isn't sufficiently described with words or thoughts. Nothing can be more useful when you are having a hard time. Just remember, your story isn't your story. It never can be. With that, you can let go and just go with the flow. With that, you can be one with the Tao
Once we are able to except that we don't own anything in this world and that everything is on credit, automatically we become less interested or bothered about, pursuing endless goals, or successes and failures in our lives, we need to remember that the more we gain, the more we have to lose in the long run, everything has to balance itself out, because we can't tread water forever.
It's probably your inner parent or school teacher, try to catch those thoughts and analyse, and from there you decide what you really want to do about those thoughts. Try to hear YOUR real feelings, and try as much as you can to listen to what you personally want at that moment when you feel internal pressure
Are you irked when people are late to their appointments, but when there is no actual reason to rush or really be considered late other than one truly caring for it so hardcore as to ruin their interpersonal relationships with the said late-causing persons.
This kind of videos should be posted more and spread in the society. We are too rushed to achieve in everything and try to please everyone around us then we have never been feeling calm and satisfaction. Thank you for these valuable content.
Just today I wrote the most difficult exam in the country. I prepared ok ok in my previous attempt but was unprepared for today. I am sure that I couldn't make it but I cracked the exam. I saw a noticeable difference and that is in my previous attempts I was very anxious about the exam even though I prepared, but today, I just didn't cared but all the knowledge that I acquired a year ago saved me.
So basically the more things we strive to do or accomplish end up overwhelming and stressing us out more. We need to appreciate and focus on the things that really matter and be happy with our present state of being.
This was the best video I can remember from Einzelganger. I could feel the dots connecting as I watched it. So much of my life I have struggled to control things out of my power. The only power I have is over myself and even so I have no power. I am aging every second that passes. This will not end until I am dead and I won’t be able to see my atoms recycled in the cosmos. I know I must accept this and value the relationships of everyone around me as long as I can.
This is one of the most important teachings no school can ever teach. Thanks for such important videos.... The same effort it takes to be approved by society as successful, which most of the times, leads to more stress and unhappiness, is the same effort we need to cut ourselves off the society's way of approving success, and be free, which will generate everlasting peace and happiness. It takes only the wise to accept and practice this till the end. RESPECT TO THE WISE! ❤
I appreciate the video. It speaks eloquently about how to view our current world. I used to know a high achiever who pushed himself and his family endlessly. I used to say to him "no one is happier than one who says to themself I have enough." His reaction was an eye opener.

I 've read some of your books and watched many of your videos on RUclips. Most of them helped me to improve my life, strengthen my inner faculty and overcome some of my issues, as well dealing better with feelings such as anger, anxiety and fear. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I bet a lot of us found this way of life through being broken. I found striving for peace to not be the fix, but the only useful way of living with it and carrying on. Some days that’s more than enough, some days it’s frustrating how little help it seems to be. But we just try again in the next moment. And the next. Also just thinking, for most human history there weren’t that many “famous” people; maybe some tribe leaders or dukes and perhaps some writers and religious figures, but most everybody was nobody in the same way, and most people had about the same amount of liquid assets at any time. There wasn’t much to buy for most of that time, so people only worked enough to survive. Now…what I’m saying is we’re out of our element Donnie
mis ultimos meses se pasaron rapidisimo, por considerarme ocupado o incluso en esa sensacion pensar que no estaba lo suficientemente ocupado de mis asuntos, nesecitaba recordar esta sabiduria, gracias.
I sought balance my whole life and it was always a struggle. I may only have a few more precious years to attain it. Biology, culture, and society are strong headwinds.
I've been having these thoughts lately. I haven't been able to coherently make up my mind yet. Everyone around me is pushing me to do more and more. To dream bigger and bigger. Bigger houses, bigger cars, more comfort. Sometimes I don't relate with those ambitions. I want to live life on my own terms. I want to have time for myself, my hobbies, exploration of spiritual self. I should define what success means to me. What values and things are important to ME. Otherwise I'll keep gettibg influenced by people and be forced into thinking like them
I also noticed a downside of people always being in a rush : they often choose the short-term solution over the one more beneficial on the long term, dooming themselves to always having to find a new short term solution as the first one inevitably fails beyond its short term viability. They put themselves on a hamster wheel, never truly reaching their goal and always being doomed to keep running to keep that goal within their grasp or, at least, what feels close to their grasp.
News flash: They are not humans. Per se. They are monkeys per se, using their limbic brain parts on full brain heuristics. Those are not conscious logical rational decisions or thoughts.
Most people have to grind for just the bare necessities, and even then you don't make it... All this philosophy videos about modern life talk like all are working and having disposable income that the waste superfluously, looking for status, when the reality is most people are just trying to make ends meet.
Depends on the person, some struggle to make ends meet, while being wasteful and seeking a lot of stuff. Things like clothes, shelter (unless you become Diogenes) and having fun are necessities. Some people misunderstand these necessities, instead of the bare minimum they may seek really nice clothes, a really nice house and instead of making good friends or simple reading or playing, they may seek "higher pleasure" which would wear out its welcome. Obviously doesn't apply to everybody
@@Breakaway-ic5gj Bro, most people live in China, or India, or Africa, they are not worried about nice anything. When you live in Europe or US, Australia, you have a very narrow view of what is reality like to most people worldwide.
@@Breakaway-ic5gj What is wrong with nice clothes and a nice house? What is wrong with desires and ambition beyond what the rich fucks allow you to have as "means"? What is wrong with thinking you deserve more and better? Seriously, what is so wrong with it?
@@digitalsublime Yeah I think they are more worried about the next meal, or not falling off overpopulated trains, or not dying in a tribal war. Internet was made by westerners mostly for westerners. we all see what china and india and africa do to freedoms of speech and persons as a general rule. India, forget it, starts out with caste system and somehow calls itself a democracy. GTFO. China, utter and total dictatoriship. Africa, run by mostly highly unqualified persons and corruption, often ran by paralmilitary people. No, we have a sane view of the world the way human monkey brains work. Way saner than the eastern views or other views in most ways, at least at the surface level of society, there is more than materialism, a lot more than YOU ASSUME. Remember, we shared the internet, for free. Could have made it an AT&T thing.
@@digitalsublime Bruh I live in India, I'm speaking from experience. Although India has a lot of diversity, so I'm only talking about what I've seen Edit: I wrote a reply for user qc 7 but RUclips deleted it for some reason. But basically, the rich are in fact the ones that have drilled those novelties as necessities in to our heads, so that we'll line their pockets or die trying. A nice house or cloth does the same thing as a normal house or cloth, there isn't really a benefit it's just kind of a waste of energy. Furthermore, if you accustom yourself to these things, when they're not there or you can't get them which will inevitably happen because of the nature of life, you'll feel bad, or forever dissatisfied because you're seeking "better" things, which aren't better anyway, just hyped up. In order to live a happy life, you need to eliminate pain or worries from your life, which can include toxic people, your broken washing machine, and even desires which cause you to seek things outside of your control (so basically everything outside of your actions), or anger, lack of compassion etc. You do deserve better, you deserve to be around good people, and you should seek to better yourself, or your skills if you're an artist or something. This will make you happy in the long run.
Letting go is not something you do when you pursue something, it is when you can't have it after you focus and give it your best to attain the something... to avoid the sadness and disappointment. Letting go is a coping mechanism when we lose or can't get what we want or win. At best.
Your videos and books have played a large role into shaping a new way of experiencing the world around me as well as the one inside. I had just ordered your latest and I can not wait to get my hands on it.
I think it is a very important video with a good point. I’m actually shocked about the senseless pursuit and competitiveness we have in our society right now. What I’m struggling most with is finding a society with likeminded people. It’s one thing to understand these things yourself but being confronted with a lot of egoistic/narcissistic persons is very challenging and depressing - especially if they think they are right, because “this is how things are”.

Like others said, thank you for posting at the right moment the right content❤ I started feeling guilty of spending evening just relaxing after yet another week of running and doing and impoving...Thank you for putting me back to the right mindset😊
I think every school of thought -for the most part- is “right.” However, I feel like we still need to find a balance. If I am trying to stand out at a physical agility test, perhaps trying a little harder will help me out vs if I am overwhelmed with my wife leaving me, being a little tranquil and not in my head can help me regroup and get back on track. I need both a competitive and monk mindset. I feel like life is like a trucker’s transmission: sometimes neutral, sometimes at a high gear, sometimes low. All gears are necessary and no gear can be ignored. Same with philosophy for life.
Money may not makes you happy, but it will eliminate your worry. Yes, you're not happy, but at least you don't have to worry about paying your bill, keeping a roof over your head, putting food on your table. Especially if you have family. People who have money but still not happy simply don't know what to do with the money and or missing human connection.

Wait, I thought a wife, a career, kids, and debt would make one's more whole and happy? Even told those are themselves highly transformative experiences. So then you need one more layer on top??? Gosh this reminds me of my dad escapism into books and poetry and philosophy. He was an absent father bank CEO who even wrote and translated self help books and never once applied them to himself. It never can be.
With that, you can let go and just go with the flow.
With that, you can be one with the Tao
yeah, the flow around here is way Nazi now.
I have a hard time with relaxing. I feel like I always have to be doing something. It doesn't even have to be paid work, but I have to do something.
Not a bad thing.. especially when it comes to land work or building and fixing things. Depends on what your doing with your time.
Find relaxation in the work. Working brings me peace not stress.
This kind of videos should be posted more and spread in the society. We are too rushed to achieve in everything and try to please everyone around us then we have never been feeling calm and satisfaction. Thank you for these valuable content.
I've always been "crazy" to the majority of people in my way of living. But few adore how firm and peaceful it is and call me a "freebird".
🙏 'they' call me a free-spirit. And I embrace it.

This is a great channel you’ve got here, and it’s one that everyone should see. It’s like treatment for the everyday stresses of the world. I’m currently reading Stoicism for Inner Peace and I’ve just purchased The Urge: Fall of a Stoic, not only because I’m looking forward to the content, but also to show support. In a world filled with division, stress, pettiness, hatred, and ignorance, it’s refreshing to see someone teaching a way to find the calm in the storm.
Awesome to see how far you’ve taken your channel since I started watching a few years ago. Congratulations and continued good fortune :)
Thanks, it was really worth of watching as I constantly forget that life goes on its own path and need to accept that before trying to change.
What a profound and thought provoking video, thank you for sharing.
As a fellow content creator and artist I can’t even believe how precisely what you’re dealing with mirrors what i’m dealing with. Thanks for making this video, going to try and work my way out of the rut starting tonight (finally answer emails, finish up a video i’ve had in the works for months, and send out the necessary apologies for going MIA on all my friends)
Dear Einzelgänger, thank you for showing us the Tao..
to let go and slow down in our lives is one of our greatest possible strengths that will bring us contentment and peace if we let it.
Try that in the corporate world, I dare you.

Your ability to integrate the teachings of ancient philosophers such as Lao Tzu with modern ones such as Byung Chul Han and Alain de Botton will always be impressive to me. Thank you for another great video.
RUclips recommendations are crazy. Youre always there when I need the advice
“Each of us is a unique piece in the puzzle of the universe.” 🌟 When you embrace your true shape, you naturally fit into the bigger picture, and life flows smoothly. Thanks for making your videos. They help me in my personal life with anxiety and growth. It teaches me how to live a tranquil life and accept what happens. I am truly greatful for your work.
Today is chaos and carnage mentally physically and emotionally exhausting but you only have to have a slight understanding of how comical and ridiculous it all is to be absolutely fine and thrive.
Great listening.
Rabbi Hyman Schachtel (1954) proposed that "happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have"

I 've read some of your books and watched many of your videos on RUclips. Most of them helped me to improve my life, strengthen my inner faculty and overcome some of my issues, as well dealing better with feelings such as anger, anxiety and fear. Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
I love your videos. They always seem to be exactly what I needed to hear.
Great timing
Da-dah! Super Einzelgänger to the rescue with an emergency upload. Truly the 4th emergency service. Thank you. 🥳
mis ultimos meses se pasaron rapidisimo, por considerarme ocupado o incluso en esa sensacion pensar que no estaba lo suficientemente ocupado de mis asuntos, nesecitaba recordar esta sabiduria, gracias.
All these philosophies Lao Tzu, Stoicism & much more are beautifully captured in 1 concise book : The Bhagavad Gita
I sought balance my whole life and it was always a struggle. I may only have a few more precious years to attain it. Biology, culture, and society are strong headwinds.
Mid life crisis a besh. I can attest.
Thank you, Einzelgänger!
Spot on. Thank you. Excellent video.
Otherwise I'll keep gettibg influenced by people and be forced into thinking like them
Great as always! Thank you for being an oasis at this chaos that we call life
I also noticed a downside of people always being in a rush : they often choose the short-term solution over the one more beneficial on the long term, dooming themselves to always having to find a new short term solution as the first one inevitably fails beyond its short term viability.
Thanks for the video, it’s so calming
Although India has a lot of diversity, so I'm only talking about what I've seen
Edit: I wrote a reply for user qc 7 but RUclips deleted it for some reason.
Letting go is also the best way when we try to pursue something, thank bro ❤
Letting go is not something you do when you pursue something, it is when you can't have it after you focus and give it your best to attain the something... to avoid the sadness and disappointment. Letting go is a coping mechanism when we lose or can't get what we want or win. At best.

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished “ Lao Tzu
I think it is a very important video with a good point. I’m actually shocked about the senseless pursuit and competitiveness we have in our society right now. What I’m struggling most with is finding a society with likeminded people. It’s one thing to understand these things yourself but being confronted with a lot of egoistic/narcissistic persons is very challenging and depressing - especially if they think they are right, because “this is how things are”.
Thanks for making this channel, this kind of content. Whenever I feel trapped inside my little world. I find this channel helpful, it reminds me my true self and help to live , love and Laugh. 😇
The images of morning mist in your videos are so beautiful!

This channel keeps me sane❤
I think every school of thought -for the most part- is “right.” However, I feel like we still need to find a balance.
If I am trying to stand out at a physical agility test, perhaps trying a little harder will help me out vs if I am overwhelmed with my wife leaving me, being a little tranquil and not in my head can help me regroup and get back on track. I need both a competitive and monk mindset.
I feel like life is like a trucker’s transmission: sometimes neutral, sometimes at a high gear, sometimes low. All gears are necessary and no gear can be ignored. Same with philosophy for life.
Thank you for uploading again and especially on this topic of philosophy was kinda loosing myself again really needed this thank you so much!

Just what I needed. I'm really going to try and put this in practise.

It’s true…all these materialism, status, consumption and money has distracted us from being in peace with oneself 💯
Lots of love from Nepal ❤❤
Contentment and peace are not always the best things. Struggling through life is when the real magic happens.
I don't believe the two are exclusive though.
I'd also point out that what "the best thing" is entirely subjective
"Having PhD is not enough, we also want a six-pack, perfect marriage, running marathons, ..." - as someone with PhD who wants all these things, that hit hard.
Don't try to run the full marathon, half marathon is more in touch with humanity. Fulls destroy your body, no one should be doing that type of distance regularly I like my knees just the way they are 😅 13.1 gang
@@Nothingreallyexists thanks for the warning! I meant running marathons in a metaphorical sense, I am more of a biking person myself :) But I did do half-marathon once and my knees didn't like me, so I am not doing that anymore :)
walk and sprint, for moving around and escaping danger. Marathon is also one of the modern hypocrisy that our body is not designed to do.
@@Nothingreallyexists eh as someone whose done both I disagree. The distance has little to do with the body and more to do with the mind. Unless you get hurt of course.
Contentment is good.
But there is always this human desire to be more, be better, do more, do better, have more, have better.
One can easily slip into Laziness otherwise.
I read 1 beautiful quote which solves the paradox: "Be happy with what you have while working towards what you want"
& Stop comparing yourself to others
The saddest thing a Chinese girl said, " I rather cry in the back of a BMW than laugh on the back of a bicycle."
Well said and so true ! We all need to get off social media a lot more ,as most of it is just a storyboard of grandiosity! Great video and look forward to more like this one!😊
Nobody is perfect. Therefore, it's perfect to be a nobody.
reductionist and self destructive in so many ways in 2024. Not everything these ancient people say works, some just expires, some never works and sounds good only, others are practical. Being nobody, might as well opt to be a vagrant or a homeless person free from all in the streets.

good stuff buddy👍🏾
I read Lao Zu in high school and enjoyed it. However, now that I'm in my 30s with a career, a wife, kids, and debt, I now see his work as imperatively transformative. Thank you for reminding me 🙏
Wait, I thought a wife, a career, kids, and debt would make one's more whole and happy? Even told those are themselves highly transformative experiences. So then you need one more layer on top??? Gosh this reminds me of my dad escapism into books and poetry and philosophy. He was an absent father bank CEO who even wrote and translated self help books and never once applied them to himself. Just sang praises.
@@DoyouReally-r9o While they are all blessings and I enjoy them each in my life (minus the debt, lol), each of them also bring more responsibility. Sometimes, rarely, that responsibility all at once can become overbearing and I feel out of touch with the natural flow of nature. You cannot have pleasure without pain or pain without pleasure. That's what aspect of Lao Zu's teachings that I've learned over the years, which was also discussed in this video.
@@DoyouReally-r9o I mean spirituality is a thing, not something you get by having kids and a wife.
