Here is an idea for you MasakoX what if blonde and brunette Launch separated permanently because of the Dragon Balls and they both learn martial arts one learning the turtle helmet Style and the other learning Crane style and then combining it with their weapons It could be what if both Launch's join the Z Fighters
While I can understand dropping her as a character the simple fact of the matter is that she was a main supporting character. You don’t just get to unceremoniously dump her that’s highly disrespectful to her character. I think she should have had some kind of official departure like maybe she stole Nappa’s ship in vengeance and became a space pirate and that’s why we never hear from her.
Tbh i thought the Goku Black arc would have been a great way to bring her back to make it known that she is amongst the last survivors of the human race. Her helping Mai lead the resistance with both compassion but hungering vengeance towards Black in knowing that is not the Goku she remembers would have been a great call back. Even including the likes of the OX King, and the other lesser Dragon Ball characters long forgotten or least reduced in their roles would have been a treat.
Could have brought back Suno and 8er along with Launch. Also perhaps even Master Roshi's rival the Crane Hermit. Also it might be kind of intriguing too see how Suno would react living in fear of an evil Goku.
Well, it's just the same case as Raditz - those two get better treatment from Masako than they ever would've from Toriyama. Those two really were made for each other!
It's so strange yet lovely how they're both so undervalued yet work together so well as a couple! It's an incredibly neat and interesting way to reincorperate both characters.
I've always liked Launch. She was a fun character to have around and her changing personalities made her very unique. She's the closest Dragon Ball character we have to someone with DID, whether that was intentional or not.
I actually think Launch could have been made into a very prominent character in Z had it not focused so heavily on "team against 1 strong opponent" so much that things like guns and imprisonment aren't a threat anymore. Her kit is very specialised and could lend itself to a lot of places. Imagine the freeza saga had more infiltration going on, for example characters got captured or the balls were transported to a mother ship, who else could make a breakout from that than launch using charm, prison escape skills and using alien weapons to make bigger threats get a run for their money. Not only that, she could be somewhat of a "mentor" to a freshly new super sayian goku had the "goku looses control in the form" stayed a big factor, i mean the parallels are uncanny, and she's been dealing with a violent yellow haired transformation that does things against her other self's better judgement what we assume is her whole life. Not only that, she is the only character who is willing to do very morally wrong things to help the cause where other characters would hesitate. Had for example Gero's lab or Freeza's/Babidi's ships been more of a prominent fortress to face, she'd excel there i feel.
The problem is in Z we're dealing with inhuman power levels. Aren't the basic Frieza foot troops equal to Goku at the start of Z? The power creep made Launch, Roshi and Chi Chi useless. Even Yamcha and Chaotzu were useless during the android saga and after

Great video Masako. I hope Launch comes back at some point in Dragonball maybe to be a mentor or role model for Pan, Bra and Marron. I like what you did with Launch especially marrying Raditz and having Raunch, Daikon and Mulli.
It's hard... Launch is my favorite character from og Dragon Ball, and there's other characters that still get screen time in DB that I'd rather not see again that I wish I could just swap out for her. I'd even happily take her being a recurring background character like she was in the 2008 OVA instead of Toriyama deciding that she just no longer exists.
I think that was a good take on Launch! Still one of my favorite Dragon Ball characters, and I hope to see her again in a more meaningful way! That's one of the reasons I love Raditz turned good and R&R so much!
I think it'd be incredibly easy to reintroduce Launch. Not make her a main character again, but reintroduce her with a small side story (akin to Yurin) to give her some spotlight and give her a stable place in the canon. Not even a support character (though that'd be preferable), just knowing she's safe and around if they need her. Maybe she could be called up for her robbery skills from time to time! "Guys, we need something stolen. Time to call Launch." That sounds pretty funny and fitting for her. A little treat once and a while. Of course, the ideal situation is Raditz getting revived and they start dating, but let's not ask for too much here ;)
Imagine if Gohan’s “rage” was just another variant of himself much like Launch. That’d give her a mentorship like role for a younger Gohan. Food for thought.
That's the problem with the Dr.Slump-esque earlier Toriyama characters, isn't it? There was always potential for her being a full fledged character, but it was just easier to make her a gag character with that sweet girl/badass duality than to really find a major place for her. She was created basically to be a gag for Roshi to hit on the cute personality and get his ass kicked by her violent one. The problem is that when the series went on, there were more toys in the box to play with, and some of those toys end up in the closet. If anything, Launch would have been an excellent spinoff character for one of Toriyama's side projects. She'd really have time to shine if she had her own brief manga series or OVA or something.
My idea for Launch to come back is that she got all Dragon Balls and decided to change her life, actually both lifes. So her life was really hard, if you think about it, she didn't remember what other part of her done etc. Now to wish, she wished to become two separate bodies and we got 2 Launches now, this really makes sense, as she is totally two separate minds, characters, even looks just sharing 1 body...
Honestly I'm surprised they've not just had her working in conjunction Goku and Chichi since they're doing their farming thing now. At least in some way. Would make some sense IMO for that kind of business connection and it still keeping in line with the friendship between them.

Would be an interesting way to reintigrate her into the story, having connections with Otherworld and such, though it would be taking up what little relevance Baba has. I still think the concept of a gun toting witch is cool though lol
She wouldn't necessarily have to overshadow Baba. Perhaps the reason she got into magic is because she apprenticed under Baba, perhaps in an attempt to impress Tien, and the DBS episode could cover her using magic she doesn't fully understand to try and get Tiens attention. Baba would still be relevant, because she's the master and Launch is the apprentice and it would give Launch a reason to be relevant, what with Otherworld being so prevalent in Dragonballs plot. As others have suggested, they could even follow on the DBS episode with Tien agreeing to let Launch train at his dojo to try and learn control over her bad side, possibly allowing for an organic progression in their relationship, or at least allowing her another reason for a little bit of screen time.
The only real place I can imagine we would have been able to see Launch again, without changing too much anyway, would have been during the Goku Black arc. Perhaps as part of Future Mai / Trunk's resistance or causing shenanigans with the special ammo Mai tried on Goku Black.
One area I think could work would be if Launch ended up involved with Vedel's martial arts school as I feel the both of them could have gotten along with each other quite well.
I really hope for "What if Launch was a Z-fighter" this December with her using some specially customized ki based weapons / pistols, guns, rocket launchers and some creative ki based gadgets in battles. + Bonus Idea - her mastery of ki makes her able to make her sneezing ability unlock other shades of hair and personalities alongside it. How about a red haired launch that's determined, energetic and fight driven, a pink haired one that's amorous, lovey dovey and clingy, a black haired launch that is focused, serious, and relaxed etc.
I dunno if you would see this, but the part about letting the audience decide how she ended up, i mean the launch express does imply she has something to do with a delivery service, soooooooo.....

I always appreciated Launch. She had her sweet, nurturing side then her violent, aggressive alter ego. But throughout Dragonball, u see her violent side warm up to the crew and even have a nurturing side of her own. Like a proper big sister to Goku and Krillen. She may not be one of the strong fighters, but she can be scary herself. Kind of a role Z and Super would lack if not for Bulma and Chi Chi filling it
As someone whos favorite character is Launch its always been rough clinging to the tiny crumbs of launch content we get once a decade 😂 Kid me was always rooting for tien and launch they really couldve been cute together but honestly its kind of refreshing to have a female dragon ball character that wasn't just reduced to being a mom and housewife like the others.
Woulda been cool for her to pop up here and there though, the tournament at the beginning of the buu arc when everyone is excited to see goku again would have been a great moment, catching up with friends at a tournament like the good ol days

Since Super Hero established that Hedo is immune to bullets due to a serum he used, it would be nice if everyone else was vulnerable to bullets. It would give a reason to bring Launch back.
The fact that Masako considers Kakarot a valuable piece of lore concerns me. We're talking about a game that claims "Oh, Piccolo didn't blow up the moon. He used an illusion to HIDE the moon" in the in-game plot summaries, even though the cutscenes show him destroying the moon as normal. And the fact that Toriyama himself admits to being an arbitrary and flighty writer means that in future guidebooks or video games, he could easily contradict everything that Kakarot added just because he changed his mind on a whim. Just stick with the simplicity of the original manga and maybe anime filler, Masako. It's easier than trying to put a round peg in a square hole.
Trivia: Ayla from Chrono Trigger, which Akira Toriyama was responsible for the character designs in the game, seems to be inspired by blond Launch's design.
Considering his carefree personality and her rough house nature/calm considerate personalities. That be a good pairing plus I imagine he met her on the road of his travels
Wat could've been better to bring some gag back into it as well as a slight bit of slice of life anime, is that Launch in blond form runs into Yuri, Yuri finds out her connection to Tien, she thinks ( and is slightly jealous ) that she and Tien are a thing ( through Launch lying about it in a brazen manner ) and thinks to use her as bait and is shown last as the 1st person she put under hypnosis, in the end Tien apologizes to both of them for wat he did to them both and its a love triangle and both stay to fight over his affection. Some other way she could be relevant again, put her with Yamcha, with her blue form shes cute, sweet and good at cooking and is very enduring in a relationship, and in her Blonde form she's just as cute can someway cook and keeps Yamcha in line and out of cheating also this could show Yamcha being done with picking up girls and being a one woman man, cuz in a way, he's got not 1, but 2 girls into him, and in that way it is and is not cheating, in away, also it's a final win on both of them, plus Blonde Lauch Marries a man of Fame and with wealth cuz of his Baseball career. Anyone agree
I'm okay with the absence of Launch after the original DB. Like what Masako said, there really were nowhere for her to go, and if she stayed around Tien, it would become something different like what happened to Videl from Z to Super; a portrayal far removed from what the character previously were, which nobody would enjoy. Launch will always be my personal favorite DragonBall-Gal and I'm happy with what Masako did for her and Raditz. That's good enough for me :)
Well I got my wife to watch the dragon ball series with me. She really enjoyed the OG DB, we are now into the saiyan saga of DBZ. And she immediately asked, where the hell is Launch? Yeaaaa… Such a shame tho.
she deserves to return as if the pilaf gang can be given relevance(who were gone in z outside a cameo/nowadays support that could easily go to hedo unless they do more.),goten/trunks and buu showing he didn't know what to do with them until recently(a lot of buu got forgotten looking back like gohan's school friends.),chi chi not doing anything with the potential she had past being goku's wife that justifiably got angry(did she even cameo in super hero?) and with how tien's just there nowadays(and arguably unless they adapted online or had the z fighters in a big fight might as well be let go.) she could be a mentor role for his school maybe rekindling their relationship with how toyotaro remembers & callsback really obscure or forgotten parts of the series . loved her the most in og dragonball(was what made me love og more than z when i already liked it's characters/fights more.:3) like her being the closest to a parental figure to goku,her dynamic with the gang and wanting to help take on the threats with them like in rr(would've been cool instead of a pointless timeskip they had the dragon team do an assault on gero's base leaving 17/18 and cell a mystery till later.) and her moments in the saiyan saga(which i loved as it felt more closer to the series tone than later z.)/buu cameo and the movies.(that's really cool she pulls a cody in online/her kakarot appearance.) ,actually would've been cool if in yurines episode she was with shen and launch showed up to stop them beating up shen & scaring possessed roshi to normal or have her visiting the gang(making jokes about the super saiyan comparison or help pan control herself reminding goku of back then when he had to control his power.) as she doesn't deserve that fate at all(if super can remember dr. slump being apart of that world with goku meeting arale again & showing her gag power having jump ultimate stars logic on vegeta & be comical even with people like beerus around launch can work.).
Launch if she was handled with awesomeness: Asks Tien about body split because of her split personality screwing up her life. Becomes a twin-warrior with fusion abilities (essentially like Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel with DBZ powers). Blonde learns to empower items to make crazy DBZ bullets and Blue becomes a defensive and healer. Both focus on body mods because they share that quirk so we get giant four armed multi-colored hair launch with mecha-gauntlets fighting 5-fusion Ginyu kaiju. ...But that may just be me.
Here is something cool they could do with Launch in the current era of the anime. Make her an antagonist/foil for Krillain and 18. As Blonde Launch, she's a bank robbing criminal, and Krillain is a Law Enforcing human cop. But Krillain also knows her and knows her gimmick. He knows there's a sweat Blue Haired Launch underneath. And if they briefly took her in maybe she could become a complicated influence on Marren, from both sides of her personality and maybe it would cause problems with 18.
Indeed, and if they need to make her stronger, perhaps have her equipment upgraded. Regular guns don’t do much to z fighters or the extremely powerful alien beings, but with all the alien tech and magic stuff, it would not be too far fetched for someone to say make/give her a souped up high tech beam gun or augmentation suit that improves launch’s effective strength to at least being on par with the a fighters. If you want to involve her in a potential arc with Android 21, maybe her relatively low power level suddenly gets spiked when the power level equaliser is activated, shunting her and yamcha for example into a state where they hold their own well with the cloned z fighters and Dragonball team, while some of the normally stronger fighters in terms of raw power are locked into lower level power forms.

Watch og dragonball and its movies. The movies are odd and noncanon even by dragonball movie standards but fun and sometimes a bit fever dream-y. Og dragonball itself is great and more fun than a lot of Z.

Just had a passing thought that could have filled two plot holes: What if Bulma had caught Yamcha "cheating" on her with Launch? It could turn out that Blonde Launch was using Yamcha as a means to escape the police, with Bulma showing up at a bad time. Later, Blue Launch tries to console the heartbroken bandit, and they end up growing closer as a result. The next time she goes Blonde, she has trouble accepting her new "boyfriend ", but things eventually work out.

I now have a theory and headcanon that 17's secret wife is Launch
One area I think could work would be if Launch ended up involved with Vedel's martial arts school as I feel the both of them could have gotten along with each other quite well.
I really hope for "What if Launch was a Z-fighter" this December with her using some specially customized ki based weapons / pistols, guns, rocket launchers and some creative ki based gadgets in battles.
+ Bonus Idea - her mastery of ki makes her able to make her sneezing ability unlock other shades of hair and personalities alongside it. How about a red haired launch that's determined, energetic and fight driven, a pink haired one that's amorous, lovey dovey and clingy, a black haired launch that is focused, serious, and relaxed etc.
Please, no. She can be an effective character without being a fighter.

I think Toriyama “forgot” about Launch because he couldn’t have other characters talk about her when she wasn’t there, otherwise she would sneeze and some kinda chaos would obviously ensue.

I always appreciated Launch. She had her sweet, nurturing side then her violent, aggressive alter ego. But throughout Dragonball, u see her violent side warm up to the crew and even have a nurturing side of her own. Like a proper big sister to Goku and Krillen. She may not be one of the strong fighters, but she can be scary herself. Kind of a role Z and Super would lack if not for Bulma and Chi Chi filling it

As someone whos favorite character is Launch its always been rough clinging to the tiny crumbs of launch content we get once a decade 😂 Kid me was always rooting for tien and launch they really couldve been cute together but honestly its kind of refreshing to have a female dragon ball character that wasn't just reduced to being a mom and housewife like the others.
Woulda been cool for her to pop up here and there though, the tournament at the beginning of the buu arc when everyone is excited to see goku again would have been a great moment, catching up with friends at a tournament like the good ol days

Since Super Hero established that Hedo is immune to bullets due to a serum he used, it would be nice if everyone else was vulnerable to bullets. It would give a reason to bring Launch back.
The fact that Masako considers Kakarot a valuable piece of lore concerns me. We're talking about a game that claims "Oh, Piccolo didn't blow up the moon. He used an illusion to HIDE the moon" in the in-game plot summaries, even though the cutscenes show him destroying the moon as normal. And the fact that Toriyama himself admits to being an arbitrary and flighty writer means that in future guidebooks or video games, he could easily contradict everything that Kakarot added just because he changed his mind on a whim. Just stick with the simplicity of the original manga and maybe anime filler, Masako. It's easier than trying to put a round peg in a square hole.
Trivia: Ayla from Chrono Trigger, which Akira Toriyama was responsible for the character designs in the game, seems to be inspired by blond Launch's design.
My headcannon is that 17 ended up with her and had a kid, and it inherited her sneezing fits so they decided to adopt from then on.

Considering his carefree personality and her rough house nature/calm considerate personalities. That be a good pairing plus I imagine he met her on the road of his travels
Wat could've been better to bring some gag back into it as well as a slight bit of slice of life anime, is that Launch in blond form runs into Yuri, Yuri finds out her connection to Tien, she thinks ( and is slightly jealous ) that she and Tien are a thing ( through Launch lying about it in a brazen manner ) and thinks to use her as bait and is shown last as the 1st person she put under hypnosis, in the end Tien apologizes to both of them for wat he did to them both and its a love triangle and both stay to fight over his affection.
Some other way she could be relevant again, put her with Yamcha, with her blue form shes cute, sweet and good at cooking and is very enduring in a relationship, and in her Blonde form she's just as cute can someway cook and keeps Yamcha in line and out of cheating also this could show Yamcha being done with picking up girls and being a one woman man, cuz in a way, he's got not 1, but 2 girls into him, and in that way it is and is not cheating, in away, also it's a final win on both of them, plus Blonde Lauch Marries a man of Fame and with wealth cuz of his Baseball career.

I'm okay with the absence of Launch after the original DB. Like what Masako said, there really were nowhere for her to go, and if she stayed around Tien, it would become something different like what happened to Videl from Z to Super; a portrayal far removed from what the character previously were, which nobody would enjoy.
Launch will always be my personal favorite DragonBall-Gal and I'm happy with what Masako did for her and Raditz. That's good enough for me :)

Well I got my wife to watch the dragon ball series with me. She really enjoyed the OG DB, we are now into the saiyan saga of DBZ. And she immediately asked, where the hell is Launch? Yeaaaa… Such a shame tho.
she deserves to return as if the pilaf gang can be given relevance(who were gone in z outside a cameo/nowadays support that could easily go to hedo unless they do more.),goten/trunks and buu showing he didn't know what to do with them until recently(a lot of buu got forgotten looking back like gohan's school friends.),chi chi not doing anything with the potential she had past being goku's wife that justifiably got angry(did she even cameo in super hero?) and with how tien's just there nowadays(and arguably unless they adapted online or had the z fighters in a big fight might as well be let go.) she could be a mentor role for his school maybe rekindling their relationship with how toyotaro remembers & callsback really obscure or forgotten parts of the series .
loved her the most in og dragonball(was what made me love og more than z when i already liked it's characters/fights more.:3) like her being the closest to a parental figure to goku,her dynamic with the gang and wanting to help take on the threats with them like in rr(would've been cool instead of a pointless timeskip they had the dragon team do an assault on gero's base leaving 17/18 and cell a mystery till later.) and her moments in the saiyan saga(which i loved as it felt more closer to the series tone than later z.)/buu cameo and the movies.(that's really cool she pulls a cody in online/her kakarot appearance.)
,actually would've been cool if in yurines episode she was with shen and launch showed up to stop them beating up shen & scaring possessed roshi to normal or have her visiting the gang(making jokes about the super saiyan comparison or help pan control herself reminding goku of back then when he had to control his power.) as she doesn't deserve that fate at all(if super can remember dr. slump being apart of that world with goku meeting arale again & showing her gag power having jump ultimate stars logic on vegeta & be comical even with people like beerus around launch can work.).
So, what I'm hearing is What If Launch's good and bad sides got the wish to have their own bodies?

Launch if she was handled with awesomeness: Asks Tien about body split because of her split personality screwing up her life. Becomes a twin-warrior with fusion abilities (essentially like Triplicate Girl/Duo Damsel with DBZ powers). Blonde learns to empower items to make crazy DBZ bullets and Blue becomes a defensive and healer. Both focus on body mods because they share that quirk so we get giant four armed multi-colored hair launch with mecha-gauntlets fighting 5-fusion Ginyu kaiju.
...But that may just be me.

Here is something cool they could do with Launch in the current era of the anime. Make her an antagonist/foil for Krillain and 18. As Blonde Launch, she's a bank robbing criminal, and Krillain is a Law Enforcing human cop. But Krillain also knows her and knows her gimmick. He knows there's a sweat Blue Haired Launch underneath. And if they briefly took her in maybe she could become a complicated influence on Marren, from both sides of her personality and maybe it would cause problems with 18.
Indeed, and if they need to make her stronger, perhaps have her equipment upgraded. Regular guns don’t do much to z fighters or the extremely powerful alien beings, but with all the alien tech and magic stuff, it would not be too far fetched for someone to say make/give her a souped up high tech beam gun or augmentation suit that improves launch’s effective strength to at least being on par with the a fighters. If you want to involve her in a potential arc with Android 21, maybe her relatively low power level suddenly gets spiked when the power level equaliser is activated, shunting her and yamcha for example into a state where they hold their own well with the cloned z fighters and Dragonball team, while some of the normally stronger fighters in terms of raw power are locked into lower level power forms.

My Xenoverse characters keep up with her regularly in my head canon, in since her outfit is in the game I made up the story that she gave her clothes to my Saiyan girl.
I think Launch would hate feeling weak and useless and might as Bulma to make her an android like Krillin in those what ifs.

I don't know if you have been asked this a hundred times, but please do What If Launch was a Z-Fighter for December Masako! I really want to see Launch be recognized as the badass she is. Granted I've never seen the entirety of OG Dragon Ball, but I would love to Launch being in the spotlight and gunning it with the breakfast club. It's all up to you, I'm just hoping here.
Watch og dragonball and its movies. The movies are odd and noncanon even by dragonball movie standards but fun and sometimes a bit fever dream-y. Og dragonball itself is great and more fun than a lot of Z.

Just had a passing thought that could have filled two plot holes: What if Bulma had caught Yamcha "cheating" on her with Launch? It could turn out that Blonde Launch was using Yamcha as a means to escape the police, with Bulma showing up at a bad time. Later, Blue Launch tries to console the heartbroken bandit, and they end up growing closer as a result. The next time she goes Blonde, she has trouble accepting her new "boyfriend ", but things eventually work out.
I prefer her and Tien but this works just fine for me

People don't seem to notice that Launch get a cameo while Goku is is fighting kid buu also Android 17 has one as well.
I still pair Launch with 17… and Tien with Chiaotzu. The latter explains everything, and the former gives us 17’s daughter as another quirky student for Tien.
I'm still holding on to my little headcanon that Launch was a Red Ribbon agent gone rogue.
