- If Goku was never born, would DBZ be all that different? Not really. Here's what could happen if Goku never existed or never came to Earth and met Bulma.
You see, it is very hard to imagine this series without the character around having any impact on it, right? Sure if you look a little bit deeper, you can find out that there is quite a lot of stuff happening "outside" of Goku's general influence, for the first arc the characters there like Bulma, Yamcha and Oolong were the ones carrying the narrative as it bumbled around for the first story; only later did Goku rise to the occassion properly...but still, quite a lot of stuff tends to revolve around the Saiyan and his family. But what would happen if this character NEVER existed? I'm not just talking about him never coming to Earth...we're going further than that. Could Yamcha be the hero?
But wait, I hear you say...How can you tell a Dragon Ball story without Goku, in a way that would not end in us playing "THE SOUND"? Well, we feel like we can at least try and discuss what Dragon Ball would be like without the main character. After all, the Triple T are experimenting with limiting Goku's impact in the story with Super Hero; why not go higher? We will look at it today, as we shall explore it in a more discussion-like, loose storytelling matter. And the thing is, is that we cannot simply start from the regular Dragon Ball starting point of Age 750; we should take a look at the times before it even started...and add Bardock into the mix.

I do like it, but why was Piccolo released? Pilaf teamed up with Bulma, I don't see him being that interested in releasing him. Moreover, there's no Goku, at all. Jaco wouldn't come to Earth and probably wouldn't meet Bulma and Tights(her probably dying :c)

As a massive Yamcha Stan, I'd love to see more and even a full What If of this! I also like how everyone has to be more strategic instead of going into every fight head-on.

It's a good summary of a timeline. I think there's still some potential for them to have to deal with Buu, especially with powerhouses like Vegeta and Piccolo hanging out on Earth. All the story really needs is something that would put Tien and Yamcha back in the game, since they kind of take a backseat in the second half after Piccolo comes into his own. Maybe some good old fashioned Yardrat training or both of them getting the Mystic powerup that Gohan gets from Elder Kai, with a side of fusion to put them collectively on the same level as Piccolo and Vegeta.
And there could be things like Ultra Instinct further down the line, as the ultimate goal.
Don't forget, they likely got Kaioken from King Kai. They can just upgrade that in addition to the Elder Kai's power up, and or Yardrat training
I don't think the Buu saga would ever happen, Because there's wouldn't be any super saiyans on earth to gather energy, and that was it's main source used to wake up Majin Buu... A Super Saiyan Goku has Far more power than vegeta and nappa combined, and don't forget Gohan, vegeta (In the normal time line) and Trunks who all had this form
This needs a full story! I don't know exactly how long it would go for, but I would love to see this fleshed out with the level of dialogue you normally do and the character interactions!
If Goku as never born it could mean one of two things. The DB world is a lot more peaceful and calm. Or the DB is chaos as usual just without him.
I like this story. I like how a lot of the arcs either got completely changed or just never happened because those arcs only existed because of Goku and Raditz's involvement with the story. My only issue is that other than King Cold visiting Earth to avenge his "Little Princess" there's also the case of Babbidi showing up to Earth to awaken Majin Buu. Maybe Piccolo and Yamaha will be strong enough to beat Buu? I'm curious to see how this will play out assuming enough of us are interested in seeing a second part to this story.

not gonna lie, this seems like it would be quite the challenging one to make. im interested to see where you go with it
I've really liked this What-If and people seem to think alike. It would be very interesting to see the Dragon Team fighting against Cold. Maybe this prompts the Z Warriors to go back to Kai's planet and learn Kaioken, because without saiyans in their slot (unless Vegeta and Nappa end up becoming allies) they're probably gonna need it. It would also be great having Tenshinhan and Yamcha fusing to fight against Dabura, if Babidi ends up deciding that Earth might be a good stop to find energy

I want more of this! Maybe Krillin, Yamcha and Tien could somehow get their potential unlocked? Maybe with the Dragon Balls?
Piccolo might get his orange form early now that he has his potential unlocked & with some training he might defeat Dabura & Babidi before they revive Buu. If they do revive Buu, I can only see 2 outcomes. He either somehow manage to defeat him with some training from the Supreme Kai or they simply get Fat Buu on the good side & keep him that way so that he doesn’t spit out Evil Buu. Another thing: without Goku in the mix, I’m not sure how strong Vegeta & Nappa might become. If they start a rivalry with Piccolo, perhaps they would become Super Saiyans at some point, I don’t know. And If Beerus doesn’t dream about the SSJ God & doesn’t wake up, then Super won’t happen at all & we can only hope Zeno doesn’t erase the universes. Oh, and if by some chance Frieza’s men still manage to revive him, his defeat will all depend on how much Piccolo continues his training. If he trains non stop like in the original, Golden Frieza will stand no chance
Considering Ultimate Piccolo (not Orange) from Super Hero is what would've happened had Guru unlocked his potential, I don't think we have to worry about adjusting power levels when he's the one taking down Nappa, Vegeta and Freeza. At this point, that boost should be like his version of Super Saiyan (if not greater) and should definitely be enough to take care of things this early on in the story even if he isn't as strong as when he gets it in the movie, especially since I don't think he'd give Freeza a chance to go to 100%.
I def would like a full series of this, it also certainly feels like we rushed through like at least 5 episodes of potential story but i guess to be fair it is quite a big change to the original.
Or it could just go like, you know. . . .

Also, if you are getting Bulma and Yamcha together, you should get Launch and Tien together too, since you did mention Launch joined their fighting force.

I have questions!
1. In the Pilaf saga, Pilaf locks them in a room that will bake them to death when the sun rises. Goku breaks them out when he sees the moon. How do they get out with no Goku?
2. If The Red Ribbon Army overthrows Pilaf, how does Pilaf release King Piccolo to begin the Piccolo Saga?
1) Could argue that their plan was different without Goku around and they left someone on the outside to break them out in case things got dicey for the rest of the group. They planned smarter since they didn’t have their biggest powerhouse around.
2) Maybe Pilaf still finds the rice cooker but opens it up to try to actually make some rice.

I feel like the Saiyans would have sent another saiyan with a low power level to Earth in Goku's place, if he never existed, someone like Raditz, Turles or Tarble.
That’s been retconned tho. Goku was sent to earth as a protective measure. So it makes sense that there wouldn’t be another saiyan sent, even Raditz
this is such a unique take on dragon ball, i expect what ifs like this to just be memes but this is seriously one of my favorites. i wish i could see it more fleshed out.

Well, there might not be an Android Saga. Maybe Cell comes from the defailt future, but that's about it for androids.

@@gnockgnock6965 Buu could enforce such a thing, same thing with i dunno, some red ribbon survivor discovering remnants of Gero's work with stuff like Master computer and using it to build an army of androids, mad scientists always have secret labs afterrall and Gero is too smart not to have a contingency prepared in case the Red Ribbon failed, now they wouldnt be Cell strong by any means, but reaching a power level similar to Android 13, not Super 13, is something i could see the remnants of Red Ribbon acheive, because no matter the methods the paramilitary was so large they obviously missed a few, and while no one would be as smart as Gero, the Master Computer was seemingly smart enough to work by itself autonomously in sorta semi-counciousness and well Eighter was already an Android whose mind is pretty much working like a human so something bigger and smarter would work similarly.
Theres potential for sure, although true enough something like Cell wouldnt exist, and something like Buu wouldnt actually be awakened on earth due to lack of potential meaning he has to remain as that super impossible to win against threat, since Fusions wouldnt be enough on their own to win against Buu (lack of Transformation rly, and even then limited perhaps at best to Super Saiyan Grade 3/4 and thats assuming Vegeta find it in his arrogant self that training to such point would work) and theres no Gohan to have enough Potential to Solo it

So wait, King Cold is the only loose end? Does that mean the power levels all on earth aren't enough to draw Babidi's attention? Well... that might be good. If what I'm guessing is true, that means while the Earthlings are strong, it they wouldn't have enough power to revive Majin Buu. The again, if Babidi DOES come to earth, the gang here technically would have to be strong enough to stop Babidi and Dabura, not Buu necessarily.
wait, if Goku wasn't born, why would Jaco even have gone to Earth in the first place? He was originally sent to Earth by the Galactic King because Goku's pod was detected heading there.
Didn't he know Tights before Goku was ever sent to Earth? That's probably why Jaco would still be on Earth because of Tights.
I feel a solid possibility is just that he might be there doing regular checkups... Or to slack off for a bit. It IS Jaco we're talking about here.

I feel like Bardock and Gine would still meet and have Raditz, and maybe someone could take Goku’s place to go to earth. Either Turles, Tarble, Broly, even Raditz. A lot of possibilities

I would love where you would take Yamcha and Tien in the next part because I do want to see them use Fusion and/or fight King Cold.
I’m totally cool with you moving power levels around a bit for the sake of story. There’s tons of what if guys out there and a lot of them put a ton of focus on power levels. I feel like you put the greatest focus on story which is great. If people want power focused what if’s, they can go to other channels.
I like the idea, I feel it could be expanded upon. Honestly I feel getting Frieza into the story is far simpler; given that Bardock was able to set the escape pod to Earth they likely already had the planet on the books. So sooner or later someone is going to conquer it for land, not the Dragon Balls. They'd only learn about them after when the Raditz equivalent fight happened. Then Frieza would arrive, coming in person because he doesn't trust Vegeta and Nappa to not make a wish themselves. RR could still come back, as outright destroying everyone doesn't feel in keeping with Yamcha's personality. So instead of Androids there might just be a new generation of colour themed warriors, maybe full on Power Ranger themed because humour.
There was a fan manga someone did a while back, I believe it was in Spanish, where they edited out Goku entirely and put other characters in his place. A lot of characters stepped up like Roshi and Krillin I forget which arc they did though It's been a couple of years since I saw it, I remember the editing to kinda impressive because of how they edited different characters into the places of others.

I can't help thing that it would be Mai that would be the main reason for Pilaf's initial win while Yamcha was still in the process of getting over his fear for girls.

Nit-picking: Yamcha's fear of women would prevent him from approaching Bulma, Puar is all too aware of his fears. Yamcha remains a bandit, Krillin is Roshi's only student, Red Ribbon wars with Pilaf, King Piccolo takes over (unless Kami gets involved) and I guess Oolong keeps swindling small towns. Goku wasn't just the hero, he was the glue that brought everyone (even his villians) together.
What if Yamacha kept training
I think this is actually great and would love more! There is only one change I would add: Raditz should still be there. I think it would make more sense if things fell apart after Raditz was born and without a brother to try and track he would just stay with the other surviving saiyans. His re-addition wouldn't cost much to the current story but could allow him more later on if this does continue

Goku straight up not existing actually does make the series play out way differently when you think about it instead of him just him living in isolation. I wonder if bulma and the others just straight lose to the rabbit with carrot powers, the pilaf gang using the magnifying glass sun room, or king piccolo ruling the world. Lots of roadblocks that outright would end the series if goku wasn't there to save the day with his strength.
I forgot which what if but I believe Masako said once without Goku and his saiyan appetite then the gang wouldn't need to stop in the town for more supplies

@@illbadger2076 That and yamcha would probably save them easily enough, he was smart enough to realize in the series to avoid touching the rabbit and the guy does use weapons like his sword and guns despite them not being as present later in the series.

I like this, really like this. It’s an interesting concept that really isn’t brought up enough. My suggestion though would be to see what becomes of Chi Chi, as she would have met Yamaha and the Dragon Team anyway, right?
I could see her being a fighter, looking for that special someone, maybe a certain prince? XP
I think a nice balance to not having Goku would be to increase the number of surviving Saiyans. Not counting Broly or the movie protags, maybe there are about 150 Saiyans that are interspersed among enough worlds to from the beginning of the resistance.The revenge of the Saiyans is not the legendary Super Saiyan striking down the Emperor, but the combined efforts of all the remaining Saiyans headed by their Prince to avenge them once and for all.
I'd love to see a full what if of this. It sounds really cool

Count me as another who dug this story. It almost could've doubled as "What if Freeza's plot to blow up all the Saiyans was successful?", if you didn't have Vegeta and Nappa still petering around. *insert picture of Freeza giving a V sign as Planet Vegeta blows up*
I guess as soon as Yardrat enters the equation, along with hopefully the Earth being privy to better space-faring technology, it's not like Earth's fighters won't still have a lot of good means to help defend itself from future threats. Even Babidi's plots might be hated at the source because the Galactic Patrol would be yet another thorn in his side, even if Kibito is STILL terrible at his job.

It does feel quite wrong for Bulma to be so thoroughly replaced as the main character. She would probably turn the story into a Sci-Fi eastern fantasy one instead of a martial arts story through her gizmos, studying magical artifacts, and mystical machines.
I'm kinda surprised you didn't have Chi Chi tag along with Bulma and crew.

I really like this story, not just because Yamcha and Tien get more screen time but because of the constant escalating threat that brings more of the world in and earths gradual involvement with the rest of the galaxy. In proper DBZ is seems a bit odd how even with Super everything is on earth and around it and the gang never seems to stray far from it. I could really see this story being good as it slowly branches away from Earth to naturally explore the rest of the galaxy. Guess sort of in a way like GT but different in the overall goal.
Huh, now this is a very interesting What If, i would really like to know more of it.
Though, i am a little confused about who exactly would have Goku’s Role as the Overall Main Protagonist of the Series in this What If, it felt like it was shifting a little.
Also, I don’t think I noticed you saying anything about Roshi and Chi-Chi, about what they have been up to throughout this Story.

With Bardock not getting with Gine, he'd have no one to send away before Freiza's attack.

"Some of the power levels are adjusted here" I dunno, Piccolo+Nail+Kami was on even footing with Imperfect Cell (actually kinda crushing him), I can see Guru'd Piccolo+Kami being on par with Frieza.
Honestly it's less believable that Yamcha is the MVP for the first part. The whole in-story reason he was the gag character was because he didn't really take his training all that seriously. He'd definitely be _better_ about it without Goku around, and Krillin would probably have a little bit less or about the same role, but honestly I think Tien would take the reins after a certain point.
I DO like Piccolo being the one to put the fork in Vegeta and Nappa, although I think skipping the details on how he befriends everyone in this timeline is a missed opportunity.
Either way, when you decide to do your own thing it's always pretty fun, and that's the whole point of What-If-ing, so whatever you may choose to do with the universe beyond Earth, I'm down for! ...But um, if Piccolo, Vegeta and Nappa are all on Earth, wouldn't that also still draw Babidi down the line?
Got an interesting idea for a series, that would need some creative liberties...
Since we know the timelines are very close together, What If Goku Was Sent to Cereal Instead of Earth?
Goku still hits his head on Cereal but is raised there, meanwhile Bardock and crew go to wipe out Earth but Bardock spares a young someone, who is then raised by Kami.

I like this story! Do a more detailed telling of this part, a series if you will. Raditz may have helped against freeza or been the scout to discover the dragon balls, if you want to let Gina and bardock hook up still.

Earth still has an even BIGGER threat than Cold out there. Babidi, Dabura and if revived Buu. I would love to see this story get another part or parts

so, no androids, no cell, so no reason for future trunks to come back (unless you make one; like Trunks going to the wrong timeline)

Definitely an interesting take. But yes, while there is no android SAGA with Gero being gone... That doesn't mean that Majin Buu won't be a thing, so that could be quite the concern for the Dragon Team without Goku, Gohan, Goten or Trunks.
I liked this a lot. It was sort of a speed round for the entirety of dragonball, but it's a what if I've been interested in for a long time!
Part 2:
Everyone works together to defeat Frieza and live happily ever after... THAT'S IS UNTIL BABIDI SHOWS UP!
We need a full narrative version of this. Working in movie villains.

I hadn't even considered the possibility of the Frieza Force inevitably stumbling across Earth. But, even with that, there is still *one* guaranteed conflict that would happen without Goku's existance. Majin Buu. Babidi would have a much harder time collecting the energy required to awaken the bubblegum demon - at least, at face value - mainly due to the lack of Goku and Vegeta's rivalry supercharging the egg. I for one am certainly looking forward to seeing this timeline continue, just to see how everything ends.
This was actually a good mini what if, but yeah I wouldn't mind a follow up
