    Skipping to Z is exactly what 99.8% of Americans did thanks to toonami. It was so good to finally watch Dragonball when I was older to understand Z so much more!

    The og dragon ball was so much more adventure like at the start, you really feel the worldbuilding and why One Piece and Naruto take heavy inspiration from it

      It was definitely a lot more fun, the fights in the ER great, but it makes you missed the story building in between

    2 years ago, I started to watch the DB series. I started to watch the original Dragon Ball before getting into DBZ. The origins had such a "sense of adventure" type of feel to it. I really like how creative the worldbuilding was and the story was really good. Watching Goku's journey becoming stronger and finding all the Dragon Balls was great.
    The only thing that I didn't care for was the pervy stuff in the show. It kinda got toned down a bit after the Emperor Pilaf Saga. After finishing DB, I started watching DBZ.

      what each series is good at
      DB World building, foundations and amazing story
      DBZ Fights, Amazing story
      DBS basically db and dbz combined and just a amazing inbetween of them

    Literally just finished rewatching it a few weeks ago. Lost count of many times I’ve seen it since I was a kid but I enjoy it every time. Dragonball has its own charm that’s not present in DBZ and it makes the series great.

    Imagine not liking a comedic tone but then tuning into the Ginyu Force fight and going "yeah this is the serious tone I was after"

    I was actually in the process of rewatching Dragon Ball on the FUNi app before it was shut down. It's still as goofy and entertaining as I remember. This is sort of an unpopular opinion, but I sort of prefer Dragon Ball over Z, due to the sense of adventure and the sense of wonder found in exploration. And it was back when the series focused on true martial arts instead of bombastic abilities. And I just love the goofiness and comedy in the series, which is also the same for GT.

    I finaly got to read the original Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z Animes books. I still find it funny to read from right to left. But still an Amazing Story. Dragon Ball has been my favorite Anime since i saw it the first time on Tv.

    I didn’t know original series existed until I was later teens, maybe adult. Now I’ve watched it at least a 5 times all the way through, and the tournament episodes countless times. The peaks of DBZ are higher, but the overall average is higher for DB. I love things like final flash vs cell, but a lot of Z is spamming energy blasts or basic punches. DB has energy attacks, but they mostly fight hand to hand. There’s more story. More adventure. More comedy. And you get to see master Roshi fight.

    I remember loving the original so much more than Dragon Ball z. Outside the US we didn't get Z first and "my" Dragon Ball was always the OG serie. But I was so young I'm scared it's gonna be annoying to watch now.

  • @Armedus

    Watching Dragon Ball is a blast and I would highly recommend it to fans of DBZ and Super just to see where it all began. HOWEVER, I warn anyone who has never seen it to prepare themselves because this show was a product of its time and you will see stuff that can be unsettling, things you could only get away with in the late 80s. Things such as:
    -Goku touching people's junk
    -Sexuallization of minors, namely Bulma,
    -moments of nudity, especially Goku,
    -Roshi when he's not training/fighting. Nuff said. (Honestly, rewatching has tarnished Roshi in my eyes somewhat. Still a good character but he is way too much at times.)
    These moments are few and far between and don't detract from the overall quality but it does make it hard to recommend to new viewers. I also wouldn't change it for the world as these moments are part of the Dragon Ball/Toriyama experience, though I would remove the horrible changes they made to General Blue, changes which were not in the manga and utterly ruin what could have been a memorable villain.

    • @SensiBurning90
      @SensiBurning90 5 месяцев назад

      Yup I agree. Roshi is a menace. As a kid you don’t notice just how bad he really was. Then you grow up and rewatch it and realize he deserved every time he got hit….and more.

    • @SaiyanGamer95
      @SaiyanGamer95 5 месяцев назад +1

      I wouldn't put much stock into most of it. A lot of that stuff is for comedy anyway and that's sort of in line with Toriyama's style. From what I hear, nudity isn't inherently a bad or sexual thing depending on the context. In this case, yeah, it's for comedy.
      But Roshi is still the GOAT, though.

      I know and still love it. It feels like cultural whiplash because it's easy to forget what was acceptable back then, that now would almost never be shown on TV. You sort of have to remind yourself that it's a product of its time and there is no bad intent in these jarring instances, especially when introducing this to a new viewer. Kind of hard to handwave the crazy bit to other people without getting a little side eye.
      😅 "I swear, it's a gag." 😑_"hmm..."_
      I also disagree with the original video's argument about pacing. Dragon Ball has much better pacing then DBZ. Watching the first 7 episodes of DB vs Dbz is like day and night. The former offers quick, funny action and efficient introductions that flavor the world while the latter has adult goku taking his sweet time trying to accomplish a single goal. There's a reason Dbz Kai exists.

    • @SaiyanGamer95
      @SaiyanGamer95 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@Armedus I believe some stuff can still be shown on TV today. JoJo aired recently at that had Mannish Boy and a young Polnareff "on full display".
      I am also willing to forgive the filler in DBZ, since the point of filler is usually to give more time for the animators to work on big projects or to give the manga time to catch up/move on.
      I also can't really think of Goku "taking his sweet time" in DBZ.

      In fact there is no such thing as "original" and "Z", the manga is one whole thing. Dragonball "Z" was supposed to be Dragonball 2 as in "season 2", but the graphic that did the logo mistook the 2 in the draft for a Z and they decided to go with it because it sounded and looked cooler than DB2.

    As someone born in 98 i watched Z first and when i got to know Dragonball (Classic) exists i wanted to watch it. It was enjoyable but it felt wrong. You have Trunks, Goten etc. who managed to get SSJ really really early and Goku dosent transform at all here he is even weaker than alot of normal Humans which just felt wrong.
    I know S Cells and all it still felt wrong. Also a Sayajin Ape is supposed to singlehandly conquer a planet but an old Human called Gohan can stop him ? Arent Humans like the weakest intellegent Spezies in existance ?

    • @PokeBurnPlease
      @PokeBurnPlease 5 месяцев назад

      @@litten4112 Issue i have with that logic is that and please correct me if i am wrong:
      1. Humans are considered the weakest mortal race
      2. Sayajin Babys were sent to different planet to conquer them with their Ozaru Form.
      Why can the Sayajin Babys easily conquer Planets of races that should be far stronger than Humans but a single Trained Human can fight back alone ? Also i am pretty sure some of the other races must have been trained too.

    Been wanting to show my 8 year old the series while he still young enough to be interested since we saw the super hero movie together but have been hesitant because of all the nudity and raunchy jokes. When I rewatched it was reminded how perverted it can be especially in the early episodes. Kinda hard because too mature for kids to watch but too slowed paced for modern adults to get into.

    "Compared to the fast-paced action of Dragon Ball Z..."
    LOL. DBZ is anything but fast. It has more epic action, which is different. But OG Dragon Ball never stretches 5 minutes out to 9 episodes. The longest a single battle has ever lasted in DB is 5 episodes. And I love DBZ, but I don't think any show has ever quite tested my patience like that.
