I've never been so sad for someone I don't know not being able to buy a car I never saw - and probably never will see! Damn...I would love to watch a F1 happy ending here on VinWiki!
Big twist: secretly Ed hired a spec ops team to fly in and take down the owner of that car and he himself had it exported to Panama to hide the car for 2 more years to drag out the story for the El chapo McLaren all while secretly buying another McLaren to vin swap and import it back into the United states.....he's a mastermind in this whole operation.
A fascinating tale, but given how almost every part on the F1 is proprietary (and incredibly scarce) I’m sceptical that the car could have survived in drivable condition for that long without having a full McLaren service. Don’t the fuel cells only last a couple of years on these, for example?
Ed, I can add a bit of light to the number plate in the UK as I work in Car Insurance and work in Total Loss. The El Chappo car when it was exported from the UK, the DVLA who issue license plates in the UK would have removed the plate from the vehicle as it no longer fell under their jurisdiction. This meant the plate was spare, but they would assign this plate to a similar vehicle, should it need to be registered. The GTR was not road registered and was converted and in doing so, needed to apply for a license plate. The DVLA would have had the plate spare for the El Chappo Mclaren and this more then likely how it ended up on the GTR. If you check the dates of when the El Chappo was exported from the UK and when the GTR was road registered, it will show there is a gap and hence the P440CPJ being assigned to the GTR.
It would be highly unusual for the DVLA to re-issue a plate from an exported (or scrapped) car to another one. Usually a plate "dies" when a car leaves their records... my dad was gifted a car with a non-dating plate starting or ending "AAA" but the car had no MoT and when it was scrapped the DVLA wouldn't allow the plate to be retained or re-issued to another car. OTOH you can transfer a plate that you own and that is on a road-legal car to another car with very little effort and for a small fee. My dad transferred "his" non-dating plate (it was on an early 1960's car that he bought used) onto about 5 different cars that he subsequently owned; on his death I inherited it and it's now on one of my cars. If McLaren owned P440CPJ, they themselves could have transferred it onto another F1. The trouble is, in order to find the chassis number of the car it is on, you need more than just the licence plate - unless you work for the DVLA and have access to the vehicle database
@@cmartin_ok The DVLA own registration. When a vehicle is exported it is not needed for that vehicle and is kept as spare. Typically the DVLA will try to assign the vehicle to a similar vehicle, which is likely why P440CPJ has now been on 2 McLaren F1
It was a way of getting it on the road without an SVA and having to modify the car extensively. You cant transfer a plate to a car which isnt already registered. The yellow car just adopted the v5, it’s effectively a clone
I can't believe you just offered Freddy's McLaren to the cartel... THAT is the hallmark of a shrewd negotiator... willing to sell his friend's cars without their permission. I love it!
It’s actually common for a car registration number to transfer from one car to another in the UK, these are known as private plates which this one is as it doesn’t conform to the standard issue DVLA format, the plate owner simply has to register the plate to the car that they want to move the plate to for a fee of £80 (watch any Porsche 911 review over the years by a UK journalist and you’ll see the plate 911 HUL, which is owned by Porsche UK and is put on all their press cars).
Ed "Negotiating with cartel hitmen is new to me however I am sure we can make a fair deal" also Ed "I need more snakes and a better alarm for my house" word to the wise, the cartel would not sell this vehicle like this they use assets to lure in a list of buyers, then they wait, then they go after them. This smells like a honeypot. I wish everyone involved the best.
I love how Ed is still legitimately trying to convince some actually terrible people to sell/trade him the car. Also, can we appreciate his segue skills. Nobody else on RUclips is quite that smooth in the sponsor transitions.
Ed, have thought about a GMA T50 or T33? They just announced a spider, Gordon's a tall fella too, so you'd fit. If there was every a successor to the F1 it would be one of those, no horse wrangling, just horse power....
No matter how successful you are in the used car business, you’re still just a step above short sleeves and a tie. I love it, no shame, all game, would do a back flip to see you get this car.
At the moment this F1 is too much of a status symbol for its 'owner', but once it stops working I think Ed will have a better chance... they may have stolen the car but I doubt they have the really old laptop thats required for proper servicing! Good luck Ed... here's to the next chapter😃
I am starting to think the car is a bit of a trophy within the cartels. Sort of a WWE belt if you like. I doubt you would ever get it easily, and holding onto it might be a little more complicated than you would like.
That car isn’t in panama, ed just got too close and they probably feared he’d send someone to get it so they’ve made up a story about hows its “disappeared” to make you wait another 2 years while the price climbs by another million or 2
Gotta luv Eds determination and dedication to find that car even at his possibly own detriment. So funny that he Put Freddy's new project car on the list as possible trades, Haha. I bet pictures of it will turn up sooner or later with or without bullet holes in it.
Intriguing story. The weird thing is though - if they’ve been driving it around Sinaloa until recently then wouldn’t you expect at least one person to have snapped a picture and posted it on Instagram?
I‘m from the south of Mexico so I don‘t know how well known this car is in Sinaloa, but if it‘s common knowledge that it is cartel owned with some shady backstory nobody is stupid enough to take pictures of it with the probability of getting killed for that
@@Noelschubi really? Seems like they wouldn’t drive about “flexing “ in this car for years if they didn’t want everyone to know they owned it. Plus a lot of people would just see a cool car and not know about the shady ownership. What about city traffic and cctv cameras. Any trace of it there I wonder
These cars have a Kevlar bag fuel tank that starts leaking gas if not replaced every 5 years. Kind of wondering how it survived without contact with MSO for all these years.
@@james2450 a lot of people in Mexico don‘t want to get involved with narcos, so I can really imagine MSO not taking pictures (especially if they‘re paid enough) CCTV would be an option but you have to keep in mind it‘s Mexico not London so I think it‘s somewhat believable that a cartel can keep the car under the radar, especially with the ressources and influence they have (they were hiding whole airstrips and big airplanes so a car should be manageable)

@@cmartin_ok They do it all the time and I have seen several like this. With the car being exported, the reg is free to be reused
@@darrenhitchcox6345 Who owns the reg when the car is exported, and who decides what to re-allocate it to? Is it just motor manufacturers?
I love it!
You never disappoint! What a storyteller! I really really hope one day you get that car!
*it's been such a journey for Ed, the Cartel and the millions of VinWIKI subscribers & certainly for the rare F1.* 🙏🏼
I was so invested in this story Ed. I was really hoping you finally got it. Devastating ending.
Finally, hopefully the ending we’ve been waiting for
So Ed........imagine the look on Freddie's face when some guys show up to pick up the P1! LOL
This is GREAT!!!👍👍
This is the best story ever. (Apart from the deaths). Ed, I really really hope that this car comes your way!
I was shocked when Freddie bought the P1, now Ed's like...hold my beer!
Damn, I really wanted Ed to have this car. I just knew he had finally at least found it, if not acquired it. I got my fingers crossed for you, Ed.
Gotta give it up to Ed. He made keeping up with the lost gemstone easy to followup. Gracias.
How would Ed get one over Tavarish with the P1?
I hope so god damn much they contact Ed, cause that’d be a phenomenal story.
Ed, have thought about a GMA T50 or T33? They just announced a spider, Gordon's a tall fella too, so you'd fit. If there was every a successor to the F1 it would be one of those, no horse wrangling, just horse power....
Ed, buying new? Are you mad, sir?
If the car has survived this far. I`m 100% sure that Ed will one day get his hands on it!
Please keep the search going! This was the coolest story I've seen in a while. Better than the P1.
Finallly…. I have been waiting so long for this episode.
This guy is the beast speaker is ever heard. Clear, and with great cadence. No umms, no “you know.”
That car isn’t in panama, ed just got too close and they probably feared he’d send someone to get it so they’ve made up a story about hows its “disappeared” to make you wait another 2 years while the price climbs by another million or 2
Very true, chapo never owned that car and the original owners son didn’t get killed
Bro. New level of respect. You are officially crazy. Now I know how much you truly love vehicles.
Gotta luv Eds determination and dedication to find that car even at his possibly own detriment. So funny that he Put Freddy's new project car on the list as possible trades, Haha. I bet pictures of it will turn up sooner or later with or without bullet holes in it.
it’s never the end of the story until there’s at least a photo. even if it’s a pile of ashes in a field
It's crazy there hasn't been any pictures of this car. Hopefully one day we get new pictures
What a way to start a Wednesday!
Eds stories are typically head nod... However, this one just keeps getting better and better. Good luck getting that car Ed. You deserve it at this point.
Trust Ed to begin his "shrewd negotiation" right here in front of us all! What a legend.....
Ed, if that is the actual picture of the “key” invoice. You are totally incorrect about the 200k USD price. Its actually around 20k USD for the key. Check the math.
I love Ed.., attempting to enter the Lion's Den and coming out clean. Something I wouldn't hesitate to myself if I was in such a position to do so. Weird isn't it???
Lanzante is about 5 mins from my house I love going past their showroom
This is my favorite car hunt saga!!
This story gets better and better. If Ed will eventually aquire the car, that video will break the Internet.
This story is not over!
That’s a mighty young looking knee you’ve got there buddy.
You should straight up visit el chapo in colorado and ask him lol
The invoice for the key you showed its actually in Mexican currency and it is stated in the invoice description, so if it is the original invoice for the keys at that time, it is for 45 thousand us dollars according to the dollar to peso value from that time period.
Finally after a year on the update on the chapo mclaren f1
Thanks for the update on the most desirable wreck to restore and your well accomplished efforts to entertain!!
This mustve been such a sad video to do man hopes, dreams, leads and literally hollering ill trade you whatever your heart desires on wheels to the world. Good luck sir
Such a calming voice and great story time.
One of the top 3 stories on this channel! Hope the phone ring one day!
Yes that was a wild two days when the Son was caught. They burned big rigs on the highway to block the roads and they were shooting airplanes so they couldn't take off. A convenience store got burned in my town but two days later it was back to normal.
I was in Culiacan last week but didn't think about the McLaren at all.
Please correct me if am wrong but legally Freddy's McLaren yellow car can't be legally driven in the USA because it has a title Certificate of destruction from COPART, however he can trade it in for Ed's El Chapo's McLaren to be legally driven in Central and South America. Good trade Ed and Freddy you can get all of your money back and some.😂🎉
The entire El Chapo F1 series has most definitely put Ed's name on a lot of lists.
do a spanish version of this series and I'm sure you'll have more info
That negotiation at the end love it😂
I’m here for it!🔥
I so hope Ed gets a hold of this F1.. would be AMAZING!!
*sings to meatloaf*
"I will do anything for that F1, but I wont GO THERE"
haha
Take some advertising in areas that keep coming up in the search. Photo of the F1, cash reward, call Ed
Great story, Ed!
Seen the title I been waiting A LONG TIME for on the channel
