      You'd be surprised. Back in my time in the military, I was working a security job temporarily and I got called in on one of my off days to stand guard while Donald Trump came to commission the new aircraft carrier. I got to meet a handful of secret service agents including one of the snipers on the scene. They were all pretty friendly, even the sniper I met. They mainly talked about us becoming agents after we were out of the military. Apparently, it's pretty common to recruit from the DOD.

      Honestly would have loved to see her react to the 'DC attack scene' in Olympus Has Fallen, since Antione Fuqua planned it all out with a friend/technical advisor who themselves were former Secret Service...
      It's quite interesting on the dvd extras, how when they sat around planning out every stage of the attack, their tech advisor repeatedly mentioned that during their time in SS protection details, part of their duties involved basically sitting around & thinking up the craziest gak imaginable as to how a group/foreign power might conceivably attempt to attack & take down the White House.
      So certain things in that film, such as the '15min window' are for the most part "accurate."

    Confirming the sniper thing - there was a presidential visit to my school and I didn't get a ticket, so I ended up chilling at my dorm window taking pics of the action. I noticed on the building across the way that there were people on it... I zoomed in closer on my camera and it was snipers. I started looking all around. On several balconies and tops of buildings there were other snipers stationed with binoculars. One of them was looking at ME. Then I looked down to the balcony below me. Snipers. Just a few yards away.
    I slowly backed away from the window and called my Mom. Then a few minutes later, I looked out the window again. The snipers were already facing me, looking up, guns ready. I waved and said hi. They said hi. It was really surreal and my first time realizing how much protection the President really had.

    Without going into any details, I have had to work with the Secret Service once when the President was visiting a place I worked. To my surprise, they were extremely polite and respectful. We had no illusions who was calling the shots that day, but they didn't just shove our security to the side, rather worked with my manager on where we would be stationed and what we would be responsible for. I even remember seeing this lady, though we never spoke. Consumat professionals, the lot of them.

    One of the most common misunderstandings about the secret service, and this is largely because of Hollywood, is that their number one job is NOT to be good with a gun or great at fighting. Yes, they train so they're good at those things. But their #1 job is THREAT DETECTION (or arguably to create those layers of security she talked about and control the environment). And I really liked that she talked about that. When the president is around people her job was to watch them and notice the person who is acting weird or who is looking down at their hands while they try to get a weapon into their hands or so on. So I really appreciated her talking about that aspect of things.

    • @corruptangel6793
      @corruptangel6793 2 года назад +258

      Not necessarily. There are prison or heist or so on types movies that (at least in the past) did get things accurate or found loopholes for the things being portrayed. In those cases, the groups being protrayed (whether that be a prison or bank or what have you) would modify their defences or tactics, often before the movie even hits theaters. I imagine the SS would do the same. Refusing to let the movie get released would just signal to the world that it has something they don't want getting shown. At which point everyone, especially those with bad intentions, will do everything they can to get ahold of whatever information was in that film.

If you are already shielding their target the likelihood of them firing again is also lowered.

The other thing about Rhodey, as well, is the fact that he's an Air Force Elite Combat Pilot. He would know how to fly in a way to protect the President and, more than likely, allow him to eliminate the threats. Tony? The context of the movie does matter in some of the scenes she was talking about.
      Same thing with like the iron man, she was talking about the Colonel, without taking into account he’s a high ranking Air Force member, who got his suit from iron man, and acting like he’s some random guy that they don’t know his identity of, and was talking like well in real life we wouldn’t let some random dude in a killing machine to board air one. (Granted a suit like that also doesn’t exist, but just the fact that she was saying like they don’t know his identity, but in the movie they do)
      Stuff like that.

      The thermite bomb looks like it concentrates the heat at the point of contact, and idk if it makes a different.
      As I know for a pile of thermite we can casually combine and ignite, it doesn't do much to a piece of thick steel as the heat can be quickly dissipated.

    I feel like they should have had her watch London Has Fallen before having her comment on the 1-2 second clips she is seeing. A lot of her major issues are explained by just general knowledge of what was taking place (or even just listening to what is being yelled). Like the doors closing as POTUS was being shuffled towards them, or the thermate grenade melting a hole in the Beast (which it 100% could do).

    • @captnmaico6776
      @captnmaico6776 3 месяца назад

      Yeah thought the same, she is totally wrong with the beast. No armor could withstand a thermat grenade, it melts at 2400C and the beast engine would be toast. Armored vehicles are useless if not protected by infantary, the russian-ukrain war is the best example. Russia lost so much armor in the beginning of the war, because they did not protect their tanks properly with people.

    Idk about the Incendiary thing from London has fallen - If you have essentially a coke can full of thermite, there is... very little that isn't going to get destroyed by it? Even heavily armored vehicles and stuff. However tbf, I don't think you could make a thermite incendiary that worked the way it does on screen, like that controlled downward burn. I'd imagine you'd get a bigger spread and more of a flaring effect that would present a serious danger to anyone near the car more than just something that melts straight downward like that, though. The whole scene delves kind of into sci-fi territory at that point.
    I really wish Mythbusters was still a thing cuz I'd love to see what happens if you used Thermite on the hood of a car like that.
